Pulse count per second

Hello, I got a little question for you guys
I can read a pulse from my parallel port, coming from a fan rpm cable
I like to count how many pulses I got per second. anybody knows how I do this the best?
or any other suggestions? It is for reading the fan's rpm trough that parallel port
thnx in advance
grtz

Hi Da Paintm,
What are the data you received as output? Are this like digital data?

  • SyncFx Throughput Estimations - Row Counts per Second?

We're in the middle of some prototyping work and have many unanswered questions. We're liking what we see from the SyncFx framework overall. We're looking to do some estimations on timing and throughput. Anyone have any experience/wisdom/data on the amount
of time it takes a SyncFx app to synchronize a table of 500K rows?
Table sizes in our production app could vary from 8 to 20 columns and be up to 1M rows from a single production environment. Any thoughts on how long an initial synchronization would take for tables that size?

    I also found this:
problem found: the JVM is running on Windows XP with netbios over
TCP/IP activated. On connect() the JVM tries to resolve the hostname
    (java.net.InetAddress.getHostFromNameService, getHostByAddr).
Windows tries a netbios ns query on udp port 137 with a timeout of
1500ms, ignores any ICMP "port unreachable" packages and repeats this
two more times, adding up to a value of 4.5 seconds (!).
Deactivating netbios "fixes" this, but isnt always an option ... any
    ideas very welcome.

  • Counting pulses and measuring flow rate per second

    Hi everyone
I am using a compactField Point (cFP-2220) controller to measure the flow rate. The flow sensor that i have, gives the output in terms of the pulses. I need to count the number of pulses for a particular interval and divide it by a K-factor( constant value) to get the flow rate. If i select the interval to be of a second, i would want to count number of pulses per second and divide it by K-factor to get flow rate ( per second).
How do i count pulses per second and consequently measure flow rate using this count and K-factor.
Any kind of help would be highly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

You may be able to use the Edit Tempo function to work this out. With you waveform in Edit view Right Click on the time scale at bottom of waveform and select Bars and Beats display. Select a number of beats by highlighting with the cursor. Then again on the Time bar select Edit Tempo. In that dialogue you can try clicking on Extract to find the Tempo ie. beats per minute. Also you can try adjusting the tempo by entering avalue manually to see how close that gets to your waveform.
Haven't used this function of Audition much so you may have to refer to the help file to find out more about it.

  • CO Pulse Frequency doesn't actually generate 1 Pulse per Second?

    Hello all,
I have a VI layed out in the attachment below.  I seem to have a lack of understanding on how to program this VI here.  I just don't understand what is possibly going wrong.
The VI is very basic.  The frequency has been set to 1, and the units are Hertz.  To me, this means that the program should send one pulse to my linear actuator ONCE per second.  I have a simple pulse counter set up in the VI as well to count how many pulses are actually being sent (using the DAQ assistant).  Why is it that when I run the program, I get around 300 pulses per second?  Raising the value makes it goes slightly faster, but lowering the value doesn't really make it go any slower.  There seems to be no real correlation between the input frequency and the actual number of pulses that are sent.
I just simply want a program that I can input "1 pulse per second" or however many pulses I want per second and have the card send ONE pulse per second (or however many is input).  Where do I start?  I have a whole program written out and ready to go, but this basic concept here completely eludes me.
    Thanks,
    James

In the simple image, you are running a loop as fast as possible (there's no timing mechanism).  Inside that loop, you configure the pulse task, start it, then immediately stop and clear it.  You need to create the channel and configure the timing outside the while loop, before it starts, and you need to clear the task outside the loop as well, after the while loop terminates.  Depending on what you want to do, you may be able to move the task start outside the loop as well, or just let the task auto-start.
You'll need to restructure your VI a bit.  I can't tell if you want to clear the task after each step, or just change the frequency.  If it's just the frequency, you can use DAQmx Write to change it; if you need to start and stop the task, you'll need some logic to do that once each time you want to restart (you may get an error if you start a task that's already running).  There's no need for "Is Task Done?" since you're not using the output for anything.
EDIT: Also, it is always a good idea to put a wait inside loops that execute indefinitely.  Otherwise they will spin as fast as possible, consuming all available processor time and preventing other code from running.  If you configure your counter task properly the loop timing won't affect the pulse rate (because that's done in hardware) but there's no need to run the loop that fast.

  • Synchronisation of PCs using pulse per second

    Hello
I would like to synchronise several Personal Computers and some external hardware using a Pulse per Second (PPS) signal. In this configuration one PC or the external hardware shall generate the PPS (PPS master). Other PCs and other hardware shall count the PPS pulses (PPS slave). All PCs shall count the fraction of seconds since the last PPS pulse with a resolution of 1ms or higher.
To realise this PPS network, I consider the usage the NI Counter card PCI-6601/2. Could anyone answer a series of question please?
Is it possible to configure the PCI card to count the seconds and milliseconds when the card generates the PPS?
Is it possible to configure the PCI card to count the seconds and milliseconds when the card is triggered by an external PPS?
Is it possible to configure the PCI card to generate interrupt pulses with a frequency of 100Hz when the PCI card is configured as PPS master? The interrupt pulses must be synchronous to the PPS. That means every 100th interrupt shall fall together with the PPS.
Is it possible to configure the PCI card to generate interrupt pulses with a frequency of 100Hz when the PCI card is configured as PPS slave?
How complicated is it to use this interrupt in a user application under Windows 2K/XP and Linux? Does the PCI card driver provide a simple mechanism like a blocking function call that returns when the PCI card generates an interrupt?
I’m also open for other solutions for my problem.
I consider a PCI card with a FPGA. I could implement the PPS logic very easily in VHDL. However, I don’t want waste time to get a PCI VHDL core running or writing software drivers to synchronise the applications with the PPS. Any useful comments would help.
    Thank you very much,
    Michael

  • How do you cyclicly trigger data acquisition after n pulses counted

Hello all, please forgive my ignorance because I am very new
to lab view and data acquisition. I am working on a system which is going to
scan an object and produce an image. The gimble that I am scanning the object
with is an X-Y type of gimble with stepper motors on each axis. The stepper
motor controller will output pulses real time to indicate the real time
position of the gimble in each axis. What I need to be able to do is count
pulses from the stepper motor controller and then output a trigger pulse to
trigger the data acquisition in a buffered mode when N number of pulses have
passed and then generate another pulse to stop the acquisition after another N
number of pulses have passed. The controller puts out 10,000 pulses per degree
of travel. The velocity that I am traveling at is 20 degrees per second, so
timing here is really important. I need to be able to utilize the speed of the
daq card and not so much the speed of the computer to iterate through a loop. I
have tried using the count down feature in the NIDAQ MX library but it does not
appear to be useful to me. I set it up and it will count down but once it hits
zero it continues to count down. My expectation was that it would either
restart the down count or it would stop. I was expecting some sort of trigger
event to take place once the count reached the zero point but I did not observe
any sort of event taking place. Once again my knowledge and background is
really limited so I could be missing something really fundamental here. I have
tried using some of the legacy functions which would enable me to do exactly
what I want to do but they do not seem to work with my daq card. I have a NI
PCI-6122 and if anyone has any knowledge on how to get this type of card to
talk to some of the non MX functions I would be more than happy to hear how. It
seems to me though, that I am limited to the MX functions which I can not
really translate into what I have learned I can do with the legacy functions. I
thank you all once again for taking the time to read this I and I will
appreciate any and all responses that can be helpful.

I have run a few more tests and obtained some data per the request of a telephone support engineer. I have some scope screen shots that might be able to shed some light on what is going on. I will provide a brief description of what I discovered before I show the resulting data. I discovered that using the number of up ticks and down ticks suggested does not yield the right timing for the clock pulses that I will need for triggering my data acquisition. When I use 55 low ticks and 2 high ticks as my settings I end up getting a pulse every 32 pulses read on the PFI line. I get the same results when I interchange the numbers, for example, when I set the program up for 2 low ticks and 55 high ticks I get the same resulting one clock pulse per 32 pulses on the PFI line. I started playing with the numbers and come to find that I was able to generate a pulse every 57 pulses in this setup. I set the high ticks to 2 and the low ticks to 71 and once I did that it generated a pulse every 57 pulses in. The results are not ideal though, a number of things happen within the first second of operation. One mode of operation the clock output pulse latches after a few pulses generated. Another mode of operation that I noticed was that it would generate n number of pulses and then just stop even though the program was still running. The results I am getting are not reproducible when it comes to the long-term operation of the clock pulse generation but the bottom line is not matter what happens the end result after 1 second is not what is expected. I will show below screen shots of my program and also scope shots for the respective modes of operation.
    Front End interface
    Block Diagram
55 High ticks and 2 low ticks results
55 low ticks and 2 high ticks results
77 Low ticks and 2 high ticks results
Undesired Latch after 1 second of operation
N number of pulses generated and stopped while program was still running
It appears the the long term operation (and when I say long term I mean after a second) is intermittent, it either latches high or low after a random number of pulses are generated on the clock output. I am not sure why this is happening. The one setup that I came up with that generates a pulse every 57 pulses is not going to work for the setup that I have I think I would have to reduce the 71 to 69 in order to compensate for the two pulses that happen while the output pulse of the clock is high. To be honest I have no idea what is going on and I am starting to wonder about my daq card. Being that it is not really reproducing the same results I am starting to think maybe something is wrong with it. Another possibility is that it might be the bnc 2110 that I am using. I will try another one tomarrow and see if this problem persisits. I am leaving now so I won't be able to try that as of yet but I wanted to pass this info and data along such that maybe you will notice something and be able to lead me in the right direction. Thank you again for all of your help.

  • Analogue Signal Pulse Count

I am using CDAQ with a NI9229 4 Channel analgoue input card.
I have a sensor that outputs an analogue 5v square wave signal. The pulses are triggered from eithe a north or south pole of a magnet. I have  an aluminium wheel with 30 magnets, all magnets are in opposition to each other. when the wheel is rotated the output is a square wave.
My magnet wheel is rotating at 182° per second. Over 360 degrees there is 30 magnets. Thus making the sensor switch 30 times.
The time to revolve the wheel one revolution is 1.978 seconds.
I have set up the NI9229 to the following
    - sampling rate is set to 25kS/s So to record the data for one revolution it works out as 49450 bits.
    - Have set the trigger levels for recording a hi or lo pulse to 2.7 and 0.7 volts.
50000 samples would be two seconds worth of data which would be more than 360° of rotation of the magnet wheel.
The problem I am having is that my pulse count changes between 30 and 31. But as I am only recording 1 revolution of data there is physically only 30 switches. Do you know why I am getting a change of 30 and 31.

I think I know what the problem is now but don’t know a way around it.
I have attached two screen shots. One shows that the rising edges are counted as 15 and the falling as 16 the other shows both are 15. This is due to where it starts to take data I believe.
For detecting the rising or falling edge I compare the data to 4.0 or 0.5v If its below 0.5 then sends a hi signal and counts 1, if its above 4.0 it sends a hi signal and counts1.
But depending on when it starts taking data the signal is already a falling or rising edge. Comparing one bit of data on a rising  edge to see if its below 0.5 will send a hi as it hasn’t started to rise as shown in the first picture.
Is there a better way to count pulses

  • Pulse counting with voltage input

Im using compact field points  analog I/O (AI-112) to measure the frequnecy of an anamometer.
Basically the sensor is just a switch that open/closes at a frequency which gives 1 pulse per second (1Hz = 1.25MPH).
I know the pulse counter I/O would be best for this, but I assume labview with realtime should be able
to handle this measurment. Im having trouble finding the right VI's to do the job. Any suggestions for
possible ways to count the pulses/ measure the frequncy would be appreciated.

    Hello cfpboy,
I have a question about your signal first.  How long does your signal remain changed when a pulse occurs?  Does the signal stay "high" for 1 full second and then go "low" or does it pulse "high" once a second and then immediately return to "low".  If it stays "high", then you could simply poll the input in a LabVIEW Loop set to occur once a second.  You could then store the value in a shift register, and compare the current value to the previous value.  If they are different, then the state has changed, and you could then increment your software counter.  As you are using an analog input module, you will want to convert your voltage level to a "digital state" by checking if it is above or below a specified level.
One drawback of this approach is long term phase shifting as well as the possibility of reading while in a transition state.  This could potentially throw off your measurements.  As you are using LabVIEW Real Time, you can slightly mitigate some of these problems by utilizing a LabVIEW Timed Loop instead of a normal Loop.

  • Flow Meter VI - Pulse Count - Help Needed

    Hi,
I am working on developing a Flow Meter VI, I am using a flow meter with a pelton wheen that outputs a stream of pulses in proportion to flow.
The flow meter output is attached to the counter line of my 6501, and the pulse count is multiplied by 1.41 (per datasheet) to give ml.
I have the attached VI but not sure exactly what it is doing, would someone mind explaining how it works and how it could be optimised, thanks.
    Regards,
    Ger

    Flow Meter.vi ‏52 KB

    Hi Ger,
Looking at the VI it seems to be just acquiring some data off of your 6501 card, and just edge counting the number of pulses received and then processing the data to give the result of flow. It seems fairly simple in terms of what it is doing, but there are a few optimisations I can reccomend to you. In your VI there is an unused shift register in the first for loop which I would reccomend removing as it doesn't seem to be strictly necessary. In the second for loop, there is an uninitialised shift register, and I would reccomend that you initialise that with a suitable value unless you specifically need it, as otherwise it will just use the default value of the data type, which in this case is 0.
Another optimisation you could use is replacing the DAQ assistant with DAQmx functionality however considering how simple this code is currently, the DAQ Assistant should not cause a problem, however if you wish to expand it in the future I would reccomend looking into using the lower level DAQmx VI's.

  • How many of these objects should I be able to insert per second?

I'm inserting these objects using default (not POF) serialization with putAll(myMap). I receive about 4000 new quotes per second to put in the cache. I try coalescing them to various degrees but my other apps are still slowing down when these inserts are taking place. The applications are listening to the cache where these inserts are going using CQCs. The apps may also be doing get()s on the cache. What is the ideal size for the putAll? If I chop up myMap into batches of 100 or 200 objects then it increases the responsiveness of other apps but slows down the overall time to complete the putAll. Maybe I need a different cache topology? Currently I have 3 storage enabled cluster nodes and 3 proxy nodes. The quotes go to a distributed-scheme cache. I have tried both having the quote inserting app use Extend and becoming a TCMP cluster member. Similar issues either way.
    Thanks,

Well, firstly, I surprised you are using "float" objects in a financial object, but that's a different debate... :)
Second, why aren't you using pof? Much more compact from my testing; better performance too.
I've inserted similar objects (but with BigDecimal for the numeric types) and seen insert rates in the 30-40,000 / second (single machine, one node). Obviously you take a whack when you start the second node (backup's being maintained, plus that node is probably on a separate server, so you are introducing network latency.) Still, I would have thought 10-20,000/second would be easily doable.
What are the thread counts on the service's you are using?; I've found this to be quite a choke point on high-throughput caches. What stats are you getting back from JMX for the Coherence components?; what stats from the server (CPU, Memory, swap, etc)?; What spec of machines are you using? Which JVM are you using? How is the JVM configured? What's are the GC times looking like? Are you CQC queries using indexes? Are your get()'s using indexes, or just using keys? Have you instrumented your own code to get some stats from it? Are you doing excessive logging? So many variables here... Very difficult to say what the problem is with so little info./insight into your system.
Also, maybe look at using a multi-threaded "feeder" client program for your trades. That's what I do (as well as upping the thread-count on the cache service thread) and it seems to run fine (with smaller batch sizes per thread, say 50.) We "push" as well as fully "process" trades (into Positions) at a rate of about 7-10,000 / sec on a 4 server set-up (two cache storage nodes / server; two proxies / server.) Machines are dual socket, quad-core 3GHz Xeons. The clients use CQC and get()'s, similar to your set-up.

  • Pages Per Second, User Modes

What is being recorded in the Pages per second metrics, is it:
    1) The DOWNLOAD and (emulated) RENDERING of the page with its attributes/objects (pages, images, frames etc)
    OR
    2) Just the DOWNLOAD of the page with its attributes/objects.
Does this change between User Modes i.e. Thick and Thin Client

    Hi Paul,
A page is the eTester representation of what would be a web page in terms of navigations and actions that are performed in the web browser after the document is completely rendered and before the last transition.
Open the navigation editor and take a look at the Navigations tree. There it can be seen how the pages are divided. Each page will have between 0 to multiple navigations. Pages with zero navigations doesn't count, these pages won't even be shown in the report. If the page have frames the page will show more than one navigation. If the web application uses ajax or a similar technology with http transactions, or if the page uses java applets, flash objects or activex controls that makes http transactions and the proxy recorder was On, then the pages most likely will show more than one navigation.
eLoad will request all the navigations contained in any given page of any script in your load test scenario, if the web server will responds back successfuly for all the navigations, then this is counted as one page received. eLoad willl be requesting multiple pages from the different scripts that exists in the scenario submitted then it will count how many of those pages are being received in an interval of time, then makes a units convertion of the time interval in order to display it in seconds.
The pages received per second is the average of how many pages with all the navigations contained in it were successfully obtained from the web servers every second.
The pages per second is the same statistic regardless if you are running in thick or in thin.
The pages per second doesn't take into consideration the download of images, scripts, css, or any other object. These are considered in the hits per second.

  • Servo motor encoder pulses/counter data erroneous

First off, I am very new to using labview.  I am trying to complete a project a former employee was working on.
For a quick background on what I am working with, I am using a NI DAQCard-6036E connected to a SC-2345.  The SC-2345 is then connected to a load sensor, Omron R88D servo driver, and an omron servo motor.  The servo motor has a incremental encoder with a resolution of around 2048 pulses per revolution.  My labview program includes a counter that records the data from the encoder on the servo motor.  I have been able to get accurate data when testing through the measurement and automation program by manually turning the motor.  Also when running through the specific DAQ assistant I am using for my counter, I am getting correct readings when manually turning motor.  Once I run my complete program, instead of getting 2048 pulses per revolution, I am getting between 34000-36000 pulses per revolution.  The most logical assumption is that I am getting vibration in the motor itself or some sort of noise is interfering with my signal.  I first attempted to change any possible settings through the omron servo driver that might reduce any vibration in the motor.  I attempting changing the rigidity settings, turning on and off the auto-tuning function, and a few other settings specified by the user manual that might cause vibration.  If I turn the rigidity settings as low as possible, I am able to get around 2000 pulses per revolution, but the data is very sporadic. Also, my equipment needs to be very rigid, and with the lowest rigidity setting for the servo driver, I am able to almost stop the motor with minimal force.  My equipment needs to be able to travel at a near constant speed with fluctuations of up to 200 N of force.  Any suggestions on which direction I should go in finding a countermeasure?
    Thanks
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

The model number of the servo motor is R88M-W10030L.  The servo motor rotates at a constant speed.  The program is designed to drive the servo motor connected to a ball screw in one direction.  Once the load sensor reaches a desired load, it will reverse at a constant speed until no load is on the sensor. Throughout, it records load vs. displacement.   I have found a few things that will alter the pulses counts.  If you apply resistive pressure on the servo motor while it is rotating, the pulse output will vary.  Also when you apply pressure to the casing of the servo motor itself, the pulses will often jump around. I was almost certain my false pulses were caused by vibration.  After have no success adjusting settings to reduce vibration(according to the user manual), I ran the program while moving around several wires to see if any were loose, etc... After applying force to the power lines and encoder cable, the program ran several times with an average of 2000 pulses per revolution and would actually subract pulses while going in reverse(what I want it to do); Although the average was around 2000 pulses per revoltion, i saw positive and negative jumps in pulse counts while traveling forward at constant speed.  Today I re-wired the equipment, seperating as many wires as possible.  After the re-wire, the equipment/program is back to sending 34000+ pulses per revolution, and does not subract pulses while reversing.  I have read the 'Using Quadrature Encoders with E Series DAQ Boards' article.  Referring to the article, I am running similar to "method 1".  I am already using a signal conditioning box, but have the counter data run directly through. Do you believe running the signals through a SCC-CTR01 might solve the problems?

Hi, I play Counter Strike Source, now I get around 12-16 frames per second when there is a lot of bots or gamers in one , whole lot of action going on (like 8 gamers shooting in one place). It gets the same results of FPS on my 17" 2006 HP model.
And I get around 40-70 frames per second when I'm roaming alone in a map.
and 140 frames per second when theres nothing going on.
I get this low FPS on a turbo mode. Even though Im using "GameBooster" which temporarily disables unnecessary services. ( http://www.iobit.com/gamebooster.html )
Im looking for ways to boost my FPS in my game. Please help, I bought my notebook from FrostyComputers. They're great but Im not satisfied.
If you can help me, that will be great. If I'm not providing much information for you to help me, please let me know. Thank you

    Thanks guys
There is one time when I backed up my game ( Counter Strike Source ) and burned them into CD.
Thankfully I did because my laptop crashed when I messed up something and reboot the whole system like new again.
And my internet is slow, but I only play locally.
So I re-installed my game using my back up CD. Maybe this is the reason why it so slow in its FPS.
    Also, I found this link ( http://windows7themes.net/speed-up-windows-7.html )
useful, I could get my notebook to run on Adjust to Performance mode. Plus it takes off the Aero Windows Explorer, I think.
I was also pondering on the idea about going back to Windows XP just for the gaming, but I like to keep updated to the newest updates.
I might delete my local game files and re-download Counter Strike Source sometime.
I think this back up CD caused my FPS go down than normal.
    I appreciate your help. Thanks
