PulseAudio crackling issue -- disregarding power_save=0? [SOLVED]

I have an issue with my Intel HDA.  With the default ALSA install, I was getting crackling after playback.  I added "options snd-hda-intel power_save=0" to my modprobe.conf and that solved it... until I installed pulseaudio.
Now, with pulseaudio running, I get the snaps, crackles, and pops back shortly after playback ends and I get horrible crackling sounds when changing the volume.  Although I have no proof, it's acting like pulseaudio is disregarding the "options snd-hda-intel power_save=0" line.
Anybody have any suggestions?  I hate the crackling, but I'd like to be able to run multiple audio applications at once.
Here's my output from lspci | grep Audio:

Pulseaudio has its own suspend. You can disable it by commenting out
load-module module-suspend-on-idle
in /etc/pulse/default.pa

Right-click on your main iTunes folder and click Properties, then go to the Security tab and click Advanced. If necessary grant your account and SYSTEM full control of this folder, subfolders and files, then tick the option to replace permissions on child objects which will repair permissions throughout the library. This is the XP dialog but Windows 7 shouldn't be too different.
If it won't let you change the permissions use the Owner tab to take ownneship from an account with administror privileges.

    Hi,
If the machine is brand new I don't see why the serial Number is missing (it is entered on to a special chip at the factory)
However if the machine is a return and has been refurbished then the Logic/mother board may have been changed and someone forgot to put the info back to the new board.

I thought it might have been the adapter Im using to plug rca into the soundcard.. so I used the optic cable.. SAME THING..
So I tookt he receiver back.. got a more expensi've SONY one.. when I got home and hooked it up.. it started happening again.. I can listen to radio through speakers and receiver and it dnt' do it..
If I restart my pc.. it doesn't do it for AWHILE.. then it starts with random LOUD POPS that GO THROUGH your head if wearing headphones!!! then it gets to a almost constant CRACKLE.. almost like a fire.. u know the crackles and pops?
I have no idea what is causing this.. I totally removed the drivers and downloaded the latest 2006 drivers to NO AVAIL..
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.. I'm losing my mind here.. I make music on this pc.. and use headphones ALLOT, and I just can't hear this noise right in my ear.. I'm about to take the sound card out and SNAP IT!! LOL?

  • Crackling Issues with AMD Cool'n'Quiet and Intel SpeedS

After enabling AMD Cool'n'Quiet on my Vista 64 computer ([url="http://forums.creative.com/creativelabs/board/message?board.id=Vista&message.id=2093">see this thread[/url]), I noticed that I had crackling in my audio from my Creative X-Fi. I put my Minimum Processor State back to 00%, and the crackling is gone. With both Minimum and Maximum Processor State on 00%, I have no crackling issues. I haven't tested Intel SpeedStep, but I would imagine that will also cause this problem. Can anyone verify this?Message Edited by dypsis on 03-25-200706:32 PM

I am running MSI K8N Neo Platinum/SLI 64FX? with 4gbram?I have never really used the cool n quiet utility becasue it always seemed to make the motherboard fans whine somewhat, for this purpose I enabled and disabled cool n quiet several times, and I honestly didnt hear any difference in sound, albeit the fan whinning was there. I dont know if this is conected or not, its possible cool N quiet creates other noise as well. I never did like the util. But, it might stand to reason that if the utility was creating voltage or signal variations it could cause the rice krispies syndrome so many people have been talking about. Have to get some more feedback on this issue.

  • Called CL support. No popping/crackling issue with XFI kno

yeah.. after a post by Catherina i decided to post this to make sure you guys see it. If CL closes/deletes this thread they simply acknowledge that they dont want you to know the truth.
i called CL support yesterday around 4ish, and i asked if they got an update on the crackling/popping issue. the reply was "there is no case with popping/crackling issue with XFI that is known". i called again so that i speak with someone else to see if it was the case that only off them was unaware of the situation and got same reply.
the guys attempted to give me the entire troubleshoot again.. i told him i already done all that for the past 5 months bla bla bla.. he offered an RMA with updated firmware... i told him i already got an RMA 2 months ago...
now WTF is going on? are they simply BSing us that they have acknowledged the issue?

    Z3RO-CooL,
I'm not sure what you hope to achieve by starting this thread and essentially calling us liars. Customer Support have to troubleshoot a problem if someone contacts them. They won't have any new info for you yet. Others may contact Support with similar symptoms but resolve them by doing some of the troubleshooting mentioned.
Everything I have told you here is true, we are investigating this and as soon as I have some information for you I will be posting it here.
I'm closing this thread, not to silence you or because I "don't want you to know the truth", but because this thread was only started to cause an argument and I don't see any constructi've discussion coming from this. Please use the other thread to discuss this particular topic (crackling).

  • PIR's and batch management issue, can this be solved in APO ?

    Hi All,
I've an issue. I honestly dont know where I can get a solution for that and thats why i will post it in mm and also pp forum.
    Here is my issue.
All materials are batch managed. Each and every customer can get only certain batches and not all batches meet the requirement of a customer. Lets say I have 3 plants (plant 1, plant 2 and plant 3) and I have 3 customers ( cust1, cust2 and cust3). Lets say I get a demand for material and I create PIR's in plant 1. when I run MRP, it will generate planned orders. I convert that into purchase req and then into STO for plant 2. when plant 2 doesn't have the raw material to process into semi finished, I will create and sto from plant 2 to plant 3 to get the raw material. The reason we create sto to plant 2 initially is because it has to process something before it sends it to plant 1. so the link is from customer 1 --> plant 1 (finished goods) -- > plant 2 (semi finished) --> plant 3 (raw material).
Right from raw material it is specific to a customer. i.e. not all raw material batches from plant 3 will be accepted by customer 1.
so when the demand flows from customer 1 to plant 2, is there anywhere that I can keep track of for which customer that order is going and select raw materials based on the end customer ?
Can this be solved in APO ?

    Hi sapcrs,
Your requirement is meet the solution of configuration of the following scenario.
    customer 1 --> plant 1 (finished goods) -- > plant 2 (semi finished) --> plant 3 (raw material).
    The conditions are
    a) Raw material is batch managed
    b) Keep track of order flow
    Solution:-
    1) Maintain raw material as batch managed in R/3.  Suitably class and characterisitics to be developed to send the information to APO as that the RM is batch managed.
    2) The Bom of semi-fnished item at plant-2 to be maintained with raw material.  The source of supply has to be linked with plant-3.  The RM will be externally procured from plant-3 for plant-2 which is batch specific.  The Bom item will be send to APO as PPM which contain all bom and routing details.
    3) Now once RM is ready at Plant-3, it will be sourced to plant-2 and at plant-2, semi-fnished item will be made with the production orders triggered from bom & routing data at plant-2
    4) Now semi-finished item is ready at plant-2.  Once it is ready, it has to be sent to plant-1 for mfg FG.  This can be achieved by creating lane between plant-1 and plant-2.
    5) Through lane, semifinished item reaches plant-1 which is made at plant-2 which contains RM made at plant-3 which is batch specific.
    6) Using semifinished item, Finished product can be made at plant-1
    7) Now your final requirement is to track all order flow changes.  This can be achieved by mechanism in APO called pegging.  Using pegging, the order flow can be tracked right from FG to RM.

  • PULSEAUDIO Crackling / Distortion

This distortion is like a crackly echoey distortion. It actually has an echo component to it, When I change the output and it goes normal for a few seonds and tehre is a song playing, then it kicks in, the sound quality goes way down, it has this crackling sound, and very noticeable echo comes on the voices and the drums (which you can barely make out over the crackling). Output is perfect if forced to use ALSA directly, or if I boot into windows Seven. This is all pulse audio (probably), the piece of crap.
When I go "pulseaudio --kill" and then "mplayer -ao alsa:device=hw=0.0 <file>" it plays perfectly without distortion. When I go alsamixer -c0 none of the sliders have any gain, they are all at 0db or -1db or so.
To stop the distortion, chanigng from 44100 to 48000 and so on in the /etc/pulse/ whatever file doesnt work. What does work is opening pavucontrol and changing the internal audio on the configuration page. I hav a Barts thing that is turned off and an Internal Audio that can be set to a huge list of things like Analog Surround 5.0 Out, Analog Stereo Duplex, Analog Surround 7.1 Output + Analog Stereo Input, so on and so forth.
Now changing from one to another will randomly make the distortion go away for 30 seconds, until I open a new program, close pavucontrol, or just wait a while, then it will come back on, and I'll have to change it to another, which won't work at first usually but randomly will. There is NO CORRELATION between what is actually chosen and what does and doesnt have distortion straight away.
Basically PulseAudio is $#!+ all the sudden, and I don't know why. I have a fully updated system, hardware is as follows:
    $ lspci | grep udio
00:14.2 Audio device: ATI Technologies Inc SBx00 Azalia (Intel HDA) (rev 40)
01:00.1 Audio device: ATI Technologies Inc Barts HDMI Audio [Radeon HD 6800 Series]
Also plays it fine as testing with mplayer, so this is a pulseaudio thing (i think). WTH????

Also my last message on dmesg is:

But there is only one of these lines in the output and the distortion kicks in several times. This was right after the line:

So it happened after I opened my web browser (I only just booted this pc up I had it turned off over the night). This is a recurring problem over the past couple of days, BTW. It was probably the last update because when I done it I didn't reboot for awhile.

  • CS4, what are the most pressing issues and are they solved ???!!!

I'll be visiting the Adobe booth at the IBC on the 15-th to have a sneak preview of CS4.
To properly report back what I have seen, I need a short list of the most pressing issues and what interests you most to see solved or added. Just to name a few of the topics:
    1. 64 bit or 32 bit?
    2. Support for 64 bit OS and which ones?
    3. Matte problems solved? (BTW, what were the exact issues with mattes in CS3?)
    4. Titler improvements?
    5. What (new) video formats are supported natively?
    6. What significant improvements are made in integration in the Suite?
I'm not looking for a repeat of the wishlist, just the most important issues to have a look at.
    Looking forward to your suggestions.

Here is the news as I got it from one of the technicians and beta testers at the IBC, who showed some interesting things on the current beta version.
    1. The RTM version is not ready yet. It will definitely be this year, but it will not be out in September. Most likely is around November and not all promised features will be available in the 4.0 version, but will be supplied by downloadable patches.
    2. Interlacing/de-interlacing has not been solved. It is still the archaic approach from the '70-s era.
    3. Vista 64 is officially supported, XP 64 is not officially supported, but runs without problems. Several beta testers have not seen any problems with XP-64. All applications are still 32 bit applications, apart from PS Extended, which is 64 bit. Parts of the memory model are ported to 64 bit. The first steps to porting all applications to 64 bit have been taken, but do not expect full support before CS5.
    4. The major improvement has been in the project structure. Every project now has its own information about drive, directory and file structure as part of the project. Files in the project can have different properties in terms of resolution, i or p, so effectively this makes for Edius like capabilities, allowing for different sources in a single project, XDCAM-EX, HDV, AVCHD, P2 sources can be mixed and edited on the same timeline. You can move i material to a p timeline and edit from there.
    5. Adobe Media Encoder is now a separate application.
    6. Dynamic Linking has been improved significantly and encompasses AE, PP, EN in all directions.
    7. Batch processing has been added. You can now add timelines to a render cue and continue editing on the same timeline and there seems to be some intelligence behind it as well.
    8. OMF has been vastly improved.
    9. The garbage matte problems have been solved.
    10. Ultra is still a stand-alone application.
    11. Improvements have been made to Encore, whether that includes closing the DVD was not really known.
    12. Edit in Audition has been restored.
    13. AVCHD is supported, RED support will be added (possibly even for CS3). Note that even on a 4-core MAC the editing experience with AVCHD is tiresome and horrendously slow. You may succeed in editing that kind of material, but only with 8-cores. Otherwise it is like editing HDV on a P4 @ 2.8 GHz with a single disk. It can be done, but it is not a pleasure. The CPU requirements are enormous and IMO most will be heavily disappointed that they need to upgrade their PC before any serious editing can be done, despite all the warnings given.
    14. The titler has not been improved, but the strange windows problems (resizing) have been solved.
    15. Dependency on Red, MainConcept and others make the delivery dates unsure, but it will take some time and new patches are already being worked on.
    16. Adobe at IBC has only beta versions.
    17. One member here (I will not mention names) is probably the best beta tester Adobe has ever had and this person beats all other beta testers by a wide margin in finding bugs. Thanks for all your continued trouble, NN. You will know who I mean if you are the person in question. One of your colleague beta testers was in awe of you.
The stability and integration of the suite has been vastly improved and tons of bugs have been resolved, so from that point of view, upgrading to CS4 looks very worthwhile. Initially however, third parties have to resolve some issues with their software, like Sony with their Clip Browser, which contains a serious bug, causing PP to crash completely. These bugs need to be resolved shortly and hopefully will be addressed before the RTM version comes out.

  • CRS issue ?? and solve with restarting CRS on all DB Instances

    Dear All,
i am running two node ORACLE 10G RAC ON RHEL4.
After the abrupt power off, i found one of the database instance came up properly but second instance not started.
When i run the command ./crsctl check crs, then no reply came. checked the OCSSD log and found it was printing the log "lssnmReadDskHeartbeat: node(1) is down. rcfg(2) wrtcnt(1016) LATS(121714) Disk lastSeqNo(1016)".
Tried to stop and start the crs service but nothing worked.
then i stopped the crs service on running instance. the Moment i stopped the service on running node, first node OCSSD log printed "clssnmSetupAckWait: node(2) is ALIVE". and 1st node crs service started as well instance came up.
After that i started the second instance CRS service and crs and Oracle instance started without any issue.
In this way both the database started working.
But in the above scenario, i faced the service interuption because i restarted OCS service on running instance.
Please suggest, the way i solved the issued was right or any other way is available.
For more clarification, i enclosed the OCSSD logs.

  • IPod Touch Volume Crackle Issue.

Hello all, this is probably a silly question, but has anyone else experienced a kind of static crackling noise when they use the volume slider during playback on their touch? The faster you slide the volume slider up and down the faster the crackles are. It can also be heard using the side volume buttons. The weird thing is, it doesn't do it on every song, just select ones. It's a 4G 64gb model running ios 4.3.3. Some sites say it's normal, other don't, can anyone help?

Donald, restoring doesn't fix hardware problems.
If this is what i think it is; you probably dropped/sat on it and pushed down the volume down button hard, causing it to cause a internal problem.
I suggest go to a apple store and solve this out if you still have your warranty.

  • Creative DDTS-100 Crackling Issue

So I've been using a DDTS-100 decoder for about a year now. However, when I first turn it on, I almost always get crackling. To get rid of this, all I need to do is turn it off and back on again (perhaps several times), and it only seems to occur on the optical inputs.
I read that this is a fairly common issue. Was there ever a fix for it's

  • Pulseaudio streaming issues

    Hello,
I've got a little problem with pulse and the network streaming feature, but haven't found any solutions yet.
I'm trying to stream audio from my Linux laptop to my Windows pc. That's working fine!
When playing music with vlc, everything works well. But when playing something else (for example youtube), the sound is massively stuttering!
I think that's an issue on the client side, when i'm playing both sources together (music over flc and an youtube video), the video is stuttering and the music does not.

KylaR10 I tried several issues to fix it, but looks like if you disable your airplay it will work properly.  When I had first the problem and couldn't solve it, I hacked it my Apple TV and installed a jailbreak version.  The same problem developed again.  So I restored it to the latest OS that's out from Apple and the same problem developed.  So I tried disabling the Air Play and haven't had a single problem since.

  • Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 clapping and crackling issues with Logic Pro x new iMac 27"

Hi,  I have just purchased a brand new iMac and downloaded Logic Pro x,  I also purchased the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 interface.  I have downloaded the drivers from the focusrite website and everything is set up,  when I plug in guitar or mic I get really bad clapping and crackling to the point where the sound cuts out altogether.  I have changed buffer size and sample rates and everything else I can think of but nothing seems to fix the problem.  I also deleted the 2i2 drivers and logic and reinstalled them both but still have the same issue,  when I record using the iMac built in mic everything is fine so it's deffinately something to do with the interface.  I am waiting to hear back from Focusrite tech help.  Does anyone else have this problem?  Any help would be appreciated.

I'm having a similar issue which might indicate that the problem is not your interface.
Yesterday I migrated all my stuff from my 2009 iMac to a brand new iMac 27", and when I did a quick test to play back some old projects in Logic there was loads of annoying clicks and pops. My interface is a Roland Octa-Capture.
I also noticed some weird CPU spikes from time to time, which I never had on my older, much less powerful iMac...

  • HDMI Audio Issue/Radeon Grapics Card [Solved]

    Hello All,
New user to Arch, been using linux for a little while longer. I'm trying to set my HDMI out as default output, but cannot seem to make it work. I've tried the wiki, forums, and websearches, but none of the methods (and variations thereof) seem to work for me. The hw must work, for I am listening to music as I type via HDMI, but I must go into VLC>Audio Output>HDMI. So if someone could help me out, walk me through it, I would appreciate it very much. I'll post some info below, sorry in advance if it's not everything needed. If you want to assume I am a complete n00b/idiot, I will not be offended. Thanks in advance!

OK, I think I've got a resolution. I used a combination of several wikis to get it right, mainly:
    ALSA-Gentoo Wiki
    ALSA-Arch Wiki
    ATI#HDMI Audio-Arch Wiki
    Kernel Parameters-Arch Wiki
I searched a number of other pages I don't remember right now, but these were the most helpful as I recall. I again added "radeon.audio=1" to /etc/default/grub per the "Kernel Parameters" and "ATI#HDMI Audio" Arch Wikis. I then modeled  my ~/.asoundrc to match the Gentoo Wiki example, with a slight tweak to fit my hardware. That file now looks like this:
    GNU nano 2.2.6 File: ~/.asoundrc
    pcm.!hdmi {
    type hw
    card 0
    device 3
    pcm.!default {
    type plug
    slave {
    pcm "hdmi"
It's been a few days, with rebooting everyday, and so far so good. Audio programs (eg. VLC) and flash content are working just fine. However, speaker-test & aplay -D give no errors and the scripts run, but no audio is actuallly produced. ??? Is this a problem, or can I continue to ignore it?
Anyways I consider this pretty much resolved, and hope this helps anyone else with this issue. Cheers!!!
