PulseAudio, USB headset - Mic sometimes working...?

I need someone to help me debug a problem I have with the microphone on my USB headset sometimes not working; The level indicator in pavucontrol does not show up - if I switch between Digital Duplex and Off a couple of times, its hit or miss if it shows up or not. When the level indicator shows up, the mic works perfectly, when its doesn't show up, it doesn't work at all.
Anyone had this issue before?

Ok, seems like it's not as easy as that.
Today when I booted my computer, I am unable to make the microphone work what so ever. It could still be as easy as a concurrency problem in Pulse when configuring. But it seems unlikely that I am the only person with this problem?

  • Pulseaudio + USB headset: mic works, headphones don't

I have a Logitech USB headset that I've gotten to work under other distros, but not yet with Arch. I'm running ALSA + Pulseaudio, with my /etc/asound.conf sending ALSA events to Pulseaudio. This works fine for everything I've used, with the exception of my headset. The mic works, but I can't get get any sound through the headphones, it just always goes to the default sound card. When I run pavucontrol I can see my headset listed as an input device, but not an output device.
Any ideas? Been searching, but haven't found anything yet.

My headset is /dev/dsp1, just FYI

  • USB Headset won't work along with Audi

First off, when searching for this problem, I saw many posts explaining why USB headsets won't work with a soundcard cause they basically have one built in to them. I understand this.
    This is not my problem.
    This is my problem:
I have a Plantronics Gamecom Pro USB headset that worked great when I was using onboard sound. It would automatically intercept the first sound signal it could pick up. So if I plugged it in first, before starting a game, the headset would pick up all sound from the game.. nothing to my external speakers.
If I started the game first with the headset unplugged, then plugged them in then started Ventrillo, then the headset would pick up the Ventrilo sound but the game sound still came from my speakers. Perfect set-up.
However, after adding an Audigy 4, the headset no longer works at all. No sound, no mic.. I plugged the headset ito my laptop and it works fine so I am pretty sure it's some sort of conflict with the Audigy 4.
I'm not too much of a techy but I'm thinking perhaps the Audigy 4 keeps a lock on the sound signal somehow, not letting the headset pick it up on the USb port?
Does anyone else have a problem using a USB headset not WITH but ALONG SIDE an Audigy?Message Edited by CroakerJoe on 0-2-2006 03:55 PM

I have the same usb headset and am having the same issue with my pc. I am running the X-fi Platinum. The plantronics are supposed to be a plug and play, but when i plug it in, the headset is getting power, is recognized by the pc and other applications, but will not play any sounds at all, and it works on my other machine with an older card. It seems to be overridden by the new card. when i was running the old audigy i could use one or the other (not both at the same time) which is to be expected with this type of headset, but i did not expect the new card to totally not allow the head set to work at all. This is causing me trouble as i use my rig for alot of gaming and LAN parties. Speakers are often not allowed, and the plantronics gamecom pro headset is a sweet set for gaming. If anyone sees this and can provide a fix. I would greatly appreciate it.

  • I can't get my headset mic to work when using team speak anyone help ?

hi i am playing WOW in my windows partition, but cant get the mic to work in a program called teamspeak i know i works ok as it's ok on my dell laptop, i can hear ok. it's not just in that game , i have tried to record, but it keeps telling me mic not connected, are there settings i need to change in the sound software to get it to work  ?

    ykaldes,
Unfortunatly, the Mac requires that your mic source have a pre-amp in line with it. There are several that you can find online.
That or you need to use a USB mic (such as you might find on a USB headset). Personally, I use a USB mic...
I believe Apple did this so that your computer would be able to take feeds from musical instruments or 'professional' sound equipment.

  • Wow Wireless Headset Mic stops working on Mac OSX 10.6.3

I'm running the April drivers and firmware for my wireless wow headset. After the install of the drivers all was working great. No lag from mic etc. I shutdown my computer went to bed. Next day I booted up, worked a bit and then turned on my headset. Sound worked fine but no mic input detectable from any application. Unplugged the transmitter and replugged it. Sound still works but not mic. I rebooted with the headset on and mic worked. I assumed headset needed to be on during boot up. This morning same thing but even reboot with the headset on doesn't give me microphone functionality.
I've double checked the mic is plugged in properly to the headset but i just can't get any sound out of it.

Ok, I found a work around. It seems the mic doesn't initialize sometimes when i boot up and power on the head set. I can tell the mic isn't working because if i press the mute button the red light doesn't come on indicating I'm muted. To fix this i power off the headset and power it back on. This takes several attempts. I also found it seems to do better at initializing when its not plugged into the charging cable.

  • Help getting my headset/mic to work with my Audigy 2 ZS I/O

    Hi,
I have an Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Pro with the external I/O dri've. I am trying to plug my headset/mic into my external I/O dri've, however I can't get the microphone to work. I have used the headset/mic with my other computer without any problems, so I know it is working. There has got to be a problem with the I/O connections or the way I have set up the Audigy 2 ZS.
Here are the connections I have made:
Headset speaker cord: Plugged into the external I/O hub headset port --- Works great.
Mic speaker cord: Plugged into the external I/O hub Line /Mic In port --- Doesn't work.
I have tried talking to a friend using Skype as well as using the Windows XP Sound Test Wizard, neither once picks up my voice from the mic.
Thanks for the help, I am at my wits end with this thing.

time? How do I get all the inputs recognized? I thought using the ASIO driver would
help but it makes me switch the audio rate to 48K instead of 44.. Does the ASIO driver

    Thanks,

Audigy 2 Zs do have another ASIO driver for 24-bit/96 kHz. You need to set it acti've through Sonar Options..Audio..Drivers tab (when ASIO is selected as device). Unselect all I/O drivers there and then select those 24/96 I/Os. NOTE: 24/96 mode is for line sources only so, no Mic input w/ this driver w/o external mic pre-amp through line input.
Audigy cards gives best quality w/ 96 kHz so, it's best if you use it in your projects ... you can then, after final mixdown (to 24/96 WAV file), use software like Voxengo r8brain for SRC (96 kHz ->44. kHz) and dithering (24-bit->6-bit) w/ lowest quality loss (SRC and dithering made w/ Sonar don't give as good results).
W/ ASIO 24/96, or any other than ASIO 6/48 driver, you can record from one source at once only. W/ ASIO 6/48 you should be able to record from all separately listed sources simultaenously and w/ kX drivers maybe from couple sources more.

  • Need help getting Fatal1ty Pro Series Gaming Headset Mic to work

    greetings.
i am using a Fatal1ty Pro Series Gaming Headset Mic along with an Audigy 2 ZS Notebook card, and i cannot for the life of me get my laptop to recognize audio coming from the mic. the mic switch on the cord is on, and the status light is lit up, and i can even hear my voice from the mic in the headphones, but the audio is not being inputted into the computer. i'm using winxp pro and have played around with all the audio settings in control panel with no luck. any suggestions? i thank you in advance for your time and consideration. take care.
    regards,
    jps

Headsets or microphones with a USB connection cannot be connected to the input connections on a sound card directly. Instead, they must be connected to a USB port on a PC.
They are treated as a separate audio device by Windows. They will be listed as a separate audio device in Device Manager as well as in Windows Multimedia panel. To adjust the volume of the headset or the microphone, use Windows Volume Control.

  • Volume control on usb headset doesn't work.

I got myself the Logitech ClearChat Pro USB headset. I've got it to work with the help of http://alsa.opensrc.org/index.php/Hotpl … es_(Howto).  I can change the headphone volume with gnome-alsamixer.  However, the volume controls located on the headset doesn't work.  The controls works in Windows so either it's a configuration issue or it is simply not supported in Linux.  Does anyone have experience with this headset or with USB headsets in general?
    Thanks.

You may have already seen this.... but
No, I hadn't seen this. As it says that it worked out of the box in Ubuntu, I downloaded the LiveCD and it works indeed as it should after seleting the headset as sound output in the control panel. Afterward, I tried it on my laptop but the controls change the master volume on the onboard soundcard instead of the headset one. So it's just a matter of configuring it. From the articles that  I found at http://alsa.opensrc.org/index.php/Main_Page, it seems to be quite complicated from the first glance. I'll try to find an example asound.conf (or ~/.asoundrc). The Ubuntu LiveCD doen't contained these files so I don't know how they did it.
R00KIE: Thanks, but I already found that out and I can change the headset volume from alsamixer. What I want to do is to change it with the volume controls on the headset: http://www.logitech.com/repository/530/jpg/4838.1.0.jpg

  • USB Headset doesn't work on Mac OSX but does on my WinXP Bootcamp partition

    Hi all,
I bought my FIRST Mac 2 days ago and am very excited about the migration. My reality is that I need WinXP for work-related activities and so I successfully installed Bootcamp and both WinXP and Mac OSX is working fine.
My problem is with a brand new Logitech USB Stereo Headset 250. It works just fine on the Windows XP side, but I can't get it to work on the Mac OSX side. Is there something I should be 'turning on' to get the headset to work? Like I said, it just 'worked' when I started up with the WinXP partition but when I restarted in the Mac OSX partition, it doesn't work.
Apologies if this is a simple thing that the veteran Mac crowd is snickering at as they read this, but I truly want to use the Mac OS as much as possible and if I can't get the headset to work on the Mac side it won't be a good thing.
    Any suggestions?

Got it (sorry all) - I went into the System Preferences and selected the USB headset from the 'output' tab.

  • Use USB-headset (mic) in Firefox/Flash

    Hello,
In an Flash application where I need to select a microphone for input, the usb-microphone of my usb-headset isnt there. Is there a way to include it? My analog microphone is full of hum and sounds plain ugly.
Or even better, can I make firefox use my usbheadset, which is alsadevice 2.0 ? So sound and microphone will be used by FF.
    Thanks in advance

Yesterday I got an USB headset and had to set it as the default ALSA device and card in order for every application to use it by default.
I followed this guide to create the needed configuration file for ALSA:

    Solution:
    Uninstalled pulseaudio
    Installed apulse from AUR
    Created and edited ~/.asoundrc as per https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Al … ure_device
    Invoke skype:

Do you have pulseaudio installed or not? both of the solutions you posted are intended to be used if one doesn't want to use pulseaudio and both aren't necessary if you are actually using pulseaudio.

  • Usb headset mic makes noise to whom i talk on skype, but it works perfectly on another pcs. should i update some drivers?

but it works perfectly on another pcs. should i update some drivers?

Chances are the headset isn't using standard USB-Audio drivers found on the Mac.    I'd try to find one that knows it is Mac compatible and says it doesn't require any drivers.

  • IPhone USB audio only sometimes works

I decided to plug my Logitech H760 headphones into the USB adapter for my iPhone 4s.
    The music app works perfectly.
The phone app however, does not.
The microphone on the headset seems to be the input for the sound to a call, but the output is still through the iPhone's built in speaker.
I wish the output to be through the headphone speakers.
    Thanks.

Goto Control Panel/Hardware and Sound/Managa Audio devices window and confrim that whether USB device and Soundboard of your system are enabled in Recording devices Tab and are listed as seperate devices or not.

  • USB headset does not work after upgrading to Yosemite

I upgraded MacBook Pro 13" retina  to Yosemite and lost Logitech PC Headset 960 sound.
System preferences shows it in input and output, but no sound.
After I plug in and out  headset I loose even internal sound for Spotify.
When headset is plugged in Youtube videos on Chrome stops playing, when I take them out - video resumes.
Hardware should be ok, because I have 2 pairs of such headset (both of them are not working) and the same hardware on Windows 7 (bootcamp) do work with headset perfectly.
Have anyone the same/similar problem. Does anyone has solution? Should I migrate back to Maverick and how to do it?
Already reset everything what was recommended to reset etc.

    1. System Preferences > Sound> Sound Effects
        Play sound effects through:
Select Logitech/headphone and then back to "Selected sound output device".
2.Launch iTunes and play a song through headphone and adjust the volume.

  • Both internal and USB mics not working

Hi there, all. Long-time lurker, first-time poster. Starting last night, I have been having issues with microphone use on my iBook G4. Neither the internal mic nor my USB headset mic (Altec Lansing AHS302USB) are accepting input.
The internal mic's failure doesn't surprise me, as I have heard about the delicate nature of the wire connecting the internal mic from its position on the display down to the main computer. It's the USB mic that confuses me, since USB mics are what everyone seems to recommend that people use when the internal mic is on the fritz (thanks to other mics not working with Mac due to the line-in thing). Also there is the fact that I have used this headset with this computer for over a year with no significant issues until now, with both mics simultaneously failing.
There doesn't seem to be a problem with the headset's wires; I am still able to hear audio through the headphones quite well, and when I load my audio recording program (Audio In) and Sound Preferences, I can see the occasional blip of sound recognition when I move the USB adapter portion around in the port. These blips even occur when the pink microphone jack and headphones jack are unplugged from the adapter, so this suggests to me that the problem lies not with the wires, but somewhere in the USB adapter, port, or the computer itself.
I'm leaning toward the computer itself, since it just seems odd that both mics would just happen to stop working at the same time. That and the fact that audio output still works through the headset, and the USB ports work fine for other USB devices such as my external drive and iPod.
I have tried restarting, resetting the PRAM, and repairing permissions with Disk Utility. Nothing's working so far.
Does anyone have any idea what could possibly be wrong?
For reference's sake, I took a recording of the sound that results from jiggling the USB headset adapter in the port. It's very quiet, so you may need to turn up the volume a little bit to hear it. Again, these are the ONLY sounds that the mic is able to pick up currently.

iBook G4 Mac OS X (10.4.10) 768 MB RAM, 37.7 GB hard disk

Just to chime in here - I wonder if it's down to the software: I've recently updated to 10.4.10, and the internal mic seems to have stopped working.
One positive effect of the change to 10.4.10 is that my Griffin iMic no longer flips to 8-bit, 22khz recording when I plug it in.
Having said that, I really like to get my internal mic back up and running again.
