Pulseaudio + USB headset: mic works, headphones don't

I have a Logitech USB headset that I've gotten to work under other distros, but not yet with Arch. I'm running ALSA + Pulseaudio, with my /etc/asound.conf sending ALSA events to Pulseaudio. This works fine for everything I've used, with the exception of my headset. The mic works, but I can't get get any sound through the headphones, it just always goes to the default sound card. When I run pavucontrol I can see my headset listed as an input device, but not an output device.
Any ideas? Been searching, but haven't found anything yet.

My headset is /dev/dsp1, just FYI

  • PulseAudio, USB headset - Mic sometimes working...?

I need someone to help me debug a problem I have with the microphone on my USB headset sometimes not working; The level indicator in pavucontrol does not show up - if I switch between Digital Duplex and Off a couple of times, its hit or miss if it shows up or not. When the level indicator shows up, the mic works perfectly, when its doesn't show up, it doesn't work at all.
    Anyone had this issue before?

Ok, seems like it's not as easy as that.
Today when I booted my computer, I am unable to make the microphone work what so ever. It could still be as easy as a concurrency problem in Pulse when configuring. But it seems unlikely that I am the only person with this problem?

  • Why does my USB headset stop working after an hour?

I've tried both a standard headset with USB adapter AND a USB headset directly in both a Intel iMac and a PowerMac G5 and every occasion after approxiamtely one hour the mic feature begins to fail. The headphones seem unaffected.
    Any clues?

Hi Christopher, I have this same problem with my USB headset. I have a dongle that lets you plug in a headset to the back of it. It works great for an hour, then everyone tells me I sound like a robot. I can hear them fine. I unplug and plug back in and it works fine again.
Did you ever figure this out?
I'm running 10.8.5 and it happens in G+Hangouts, Go To Meeting, and Adobe Connect.
Weird. Not terribly taxing, but annoying nonetheless...

  • Use USB-headset (mic) in Firefox/Flash

    Hello,
In an Flash application where I need to select a microphone for input, the usb-microphone of my usb-headset isnt there. Is there a way to include it? My analog microphone is full of hum and sounds plain ugly.
Or even better, can I make firefox use my usbheadset, which is alsadevice 2.0 ? So sound and microphone will be used by FF.
    Thanks in advance

Yesterday I got an USB headset and had to set it as the default ALSA device and card in order for every application to use it by default.
I followed this guide to create the needed configuration file for ALSA:

  • Usb headset mic makes noise to whom i talk on skype, but it works perfectly on another pcs. should i update some drivers?

but it works perfectly on another pcs. should i update some drivers?

Chances are the headset isn't using standard USB-Audio drivers found on the Mac.    I'd try to find one that knows it is Mac compatible and says it doesn't require any drivers.

  • Trouble having headset mic work on GarageBand

I am having trouble getting the mic to work on my headset on GarageBand. It's a Cyber Acoustic AC-201 (most likely - I am unsure since I bought them way before I got my MacBook). Can anyone tell me how to set it up/get it to work on GarageBand? I mean I use this mic for Rosetta Stone and it works great but when I use GarageBand it simply doesn't work.

Hello LuxWhitewind. Before I can assist you, I need you to answer these questions:
What computer model do you have?
What operating system do you have?
Have you tried connecting it to another computer, and a different USB port on the same computer?

  • USB Headset won't work along with Audi

First off, when searching for this problem, I saw many posts explaining why USB headsets won't work with a soundcard cause they basically have one built in to them. I understand this.
    This is not my problem.
    This is my problem:
I have a Plantronics Gamecom Pro USB headset that worked great when I was using onboard sound. It would automatically intercept the first sound signal it could pick up. So if I plugged it in first, before starting a game, the headset would pick up all sound from the game.. nothing to my external speakers.
If I started the game first with the headset unplugged, then plugged them in then started Ventrillo, then the headset would pick up the Ventrilo sound but the game sound still came from my speakers. Perfect set-up.
However, after adding an Audigy 4, the headset no longer works at all. No sound, no mic.. I plugged the headset ito my laptop and it works fine so I am pretty sure it's some sort of conflict with the Audigy 4.
I'm not too much of a techy but I'm thinking perhaps the Audigy 4 keeps a lock on the sound signal somehow, not letting the headset pick it up on the USb port?
Does anyone else have a problem using a USB headset not WITH but ALONG SIDE an Audigy?Message Edited by CroakerJoe on 0-2-2006 03:55 PM

I have the same usb headset and am having the same issue with my pc. I am running the X-fi Platinum. The plantronics are supposed to be a plug and play, but when i plug it in, the headset is getting power, is recognized by the pc and other applications, but will not play any sounds at all, and it works on my other machine with an older card. It seems to be overridden by the new card. when i was running the old audigy i could use one or the other (not both at the same time) which is to be expected with this type of headset, but i did not expect the new card to totally not allow the head set to work at all. This is causing me trouble as i use my rig for alot of gaming and LAN parties. Speakers are often not allowed, and the plantronics gamecom pro headset is a sweet set for gaming. If anyone sees this and can provide a fix. I would greatly appreciate it.

  • Headset Mic Voice Output to 5.1 Speaker Unwan

Hi. I have a Soundblaster X-Fi XtremeGamer PCI Soundcard that I have configured to output to a Logitech z-5500 5. Surround Sound. which works fine.
I have the motherboard on-board soundcard to output to the headset speakers.
I have also got a headset mic set that I am using with Ventrillo. The setup I am trying to get is that voice speech only comes out of the speakers of the headset and not the logitech 5. speakers. And the game music to come out in 5. surround sound.
    Hardware Setup
    Soundblaster X-Fi XtremeGamer PCI
Asus P5K Premium Wi-Fi/AP Onboard Soundcard Analog Devices HD Audio SoundMax
    Logitech z-5500 5. Surround Speakers
    Seinheisser PC-66 Headset/Mic (/8" Headphone Jack + /8" Mic Jack)
    Wire Config:
    SoundBlaster
    3x output? to 5. Speakers
    x Mic Input from Headset
    Onboard
    x output to Headset (green)
    Software Config:
    Vista x64
    Soundblaster Driver (latest)
    Soundmax onboard Driver (latest)
    Ventrillo Latest
    World of Warcraft
I have got it configured (i think) and it seems to all be working fine but I have noticed that when I am not in game or Ventrillo and in the standard Operating system Vista x64. I notice that I get my voice output to the 5. speakers from my mic if I speak or move the mic. I am trying not to get any interference or sound output from the mic to the logitech speakers.
Did any of you receive a similar problem.. and if so how did you resolve it. As I only want whatever comes IN from the MIC to only OUT to headset speakers.
    Thanks
    Delta

  • Cannot get Logitech ClearChat Comfort USP headset to work on Leopard :-(

    Hello,
I upgraded to Leopard from Panther recently and have had nothing but problems ever since. I have become a part time computer tech support person (in addition to my full time day job). To make Leopard work smoothly on my Powermac G5 is an endless struggle....
The current struggle is trying to get my brand new Logitech ClearChat Comfort USB headset to work with Leopard. Googling this issue is bringing me very bad news: that Logitech and Apple do NOT communicate or cooperate, and each company refers frustrated end users to the other company for help--to a problem that has no solution.
Is it in fact true that all USB headsets now don't work on Leopard!? I find this unbelieveable if true--given the zillions of humans using Skype, for example, and how heavily relied upon is communicating internationally or long distance via Skype on a PC or Mac. Why can't Apple and Logitech get their act together and provide drivers and solutions so we can simply use a headset with our Mac?
Right now I have 5 month old (new in my opinion) Logitech headset that somebody recommended I buy to use on my Mac computer--and I can't get it to work, and there does not seem to be any driver for it.
Please if anybody can give me helpful advice, or a solution to this problem I'd appreciate it greatly.
PS: as in interesting sidenote I thankfully have a Sony Vaio notebook. Guess what? All I have to do is plug the headset into the notebook and can away I go to Skypeland, never any problems. Can't say the same about my Mac....always like pulling teeth to get anything to work on this boat anchor
My next computer will be a PC, I'm sorry to say....don't want to be a part-time computer engineer...too much work to do....

Generally, if I see a requirement of OS X 10.4 or later, the device will work under Leopard. Requirements of 10.3 or earlier tend to mean getting the device to work under Leopard is hit or miss.
With that in mind, how did you upgrade to Leopard? Did you use the Upgrade option or the Archive & Install?
It's up to Logitech to make sure their devices work properly with the operating systems, not Apple's.

  • What about mics and headphones?

The Mini does not have a microphone input so what's the best way to talk, iChat, Skype, etc.? I know the Griffin iMic will work, but what's the story behind USB headset mics? Are they better and do they let you talk through a Mini?

USB headsets are a sound card chip and headset combination that plugs into the mini via the USB port.
They operate like USB external sound cards and support for them is usually available through Core Audio although your mileage may vary.
I have Logitech USB 200's which I hear are now recently discontinued and they work 100% just plugging them into the mini and not loading any additional software.

  • Usb headset for iPad 2

    Hi
Used FaceTime on my iPad 2. Sound quality quite poor. Does Anybody know if a usb headset will work with the iPad using the usb connector kit?
    Thank you
    Anne-marie

The iPad Camera Connection Kit works perfectly with my Logitech USB G930 Headset, which is a wireless headset.  In fact, the sound is actually very, very good.  I use it for communications apps like Skype and Teamspeak.  I know that others work as well.  It's actually the main reason I bought the Camera Connection Kit.
The only app I've had trouble with is Garageband.  It doesn't like the mic on the headset.

Is there a pattern to the time of day or other detail that may be
traced back to a OS X system cause of this odd phenomenon?
Are there any copies of system files on any of the attached USB
external drives? Any libraries, such as iTunes, iPhoto, etc?
Once the drives are indexed by Spotlight, are their permissions
ignored by the OS X? Content, if neutral, should not affect the
wake or sleep cycle; especially if they're ignored by the OS X.
Could there be a bad cable or other component? If so that would
be a difficult process of elimination to detect it. Usually replacing
most suspect components in the USB stream (external to Macs)
is a rote way to mechanically test that idea; & not 100% sure.
Does the equipment all have a good ground to the utility or house
electrical field? An intermittent ground may affect more than sleep.
Hard to say at this point. Maybe a late-night talk radio guru on
remote viewing could peer into your situation and sleuth it out?
Sorry to have run out of ideas, but the process must be electrical
& mechanical to some extent. - Or perhaps odd software inspired.
Do you have any phone-home spyware items inside, just jumping
at the chance to spill your information? Little Snitch may help.
PS: Perhaps the computer needs to go into Apple & have a genius
or product specialist at AASP test the unit thoroughly... BlueTooth?
