Pulsing static sound is audible thru speakers or earphones, but not USB output.

Compaq Presario CQ532oF  Windows 7 64 bit
Pulsing static sound is audible thru speakers or earphones, but not USB output.  Makes listening to talk or music unbearable. This just started a few days ago.  Volume control affects the volume.  Does not matter if audio program is playing or not playing.  Pulses are about 2 seconds duration - sounds like a phonograph record at the end of play where the tone arm didn't pick up.
Is this likely an amplifier problem?  Is the amp on the sound card?

Hi vc329,
Doesn't sound like encouraging news, though it is odd that the sound came back for a short while at least.  If you still haven't rebooted the PC since putting it to sleep and loosing the sound, then I would suggested going ahead and rebooting or even doing a full hard reset (power down, remove the AC adapter, remove the battery, hold down the power button for 20 seconds or so, then reconnect the AC power and Battery and boot up) to see if the sound can be recovered again.
If the sound still doesn't work, Check Device Manager to see if the sound driver still looks OK, make sure you are using the latest driver again (it looks like the latest driver is 6.10.6381.0), another option might also be to try the older driver that is still available from the site, or try recovering the original driver shipped on the PC.  The steps to do these things are covered in the document listed below, in Step 6 (Restoring the Audio Driver), Step 7 (Updating the Audio Driver), and Step 8 (Checking Device Manager):
No Sound from the Speakers (Windows 7)
If none of that seems to help, I'd recommend testing the hardware using Step 9 in that document.
If the online warranty check sees you as out of warranty, you may still be OK if you have the original proof of purchase (receipt) from wherever you purchased the PC, but you may have to provide it when calling HP for service if the sound can't be fixed.  If you are close to the end of warranty I'd recommend calling customer care for your area (I assume you are still in Asia) and validating the warranty with them as soon as possible just to make sure.

Have you tried another pair of earphones? It may be that the headphone jack is failing. You can, if you are competent, replace it yourself or get it fixed by a third-part place. See the following:

    Hi there @donimuha
Welcome to the HP Support Forums! It is a great place to find the help you need, both from other users, HP experts and other support personnel.
I understand that you are getting sound from the headphones/earplugs but not from the system speakers. I am happy to assist you with this.
As the sound is working through the audio jack, I will assume for now that the audio driver is fine. Please check through the following page, which is very comprehensive. If you are still having a problem it is possibly a hardware issue with the speakers.

Have you got notifications muted ? Only notifications (including games) get muted, so the Music and Videos apps, and headphones, still get sound.
Depending on what you've got Settings > General > Use Side Switch To set to (mute or rotation lock), then you can mute notifications by the switch on the right hand side of the iPad above the volume switch, or via control centre : swipe up from the bottom edge of the screen and it's the right-most of the 5 icons in the middle of it (if the icon is white then it's 'on', tap it to turn it grey and 'off'). The function that isn't on the side switch is set via control centre instead : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4085

  • No audio from speakers or earphones, but no error messages?

My laptop gave me a BSOD today (which happens frequently actually) and after rebooting it, there was no sound coming from the speakers or the earphones.
I've made sure the drivers were enabled, that the volume is turned up, and that the drivers are up to date. I've deleted the driver and reinstalled it, and still nothing. I've updated my BIOS in the last 2 months from a previous problem, and I had not updated or installed anything before the BSOD.
The audio devices all seem to be working fine: the "mixer" in the taskbar shows that the sound is working and the green and grey levels rise  and fall as normal when I'm playing music.
My audio only works with HDMI output. It may work with a USB speaker; I don't have one to test this theory.

  • Sound through hdmi to my tv works but not when watching video online like 4OD

the sound through hdmi to my tv works with music and videos I have downloaded, but not when watching video online like 4OD and youtube.
How can I get it to work?

Ok so I happened to figure it out while on the phone to apple support. Even though the guy was very nice, I think I knew more than him! He was explaining very basic resolution principles I played about. I had the second option in displays resolution. All I did was unplug the HDMI cable, click on 'best for display' then plugged the HDMI in and my resolution on the normal monitor changed to the normal blue, then went black momentarily and then changed to a strange resolution but another window appeared that said SONY BRAVIA HDMI at the top! Hey presto! Don't know why it didn't do it yesterday - I probably left the HDMI cable in or something! Oh well. Problem solved!

  • X220 tablet - sound suddenly stopped working from speakers and headphone (but not bluetooth)

X220 tablet (about 2.5 yrs old, out of warranty) was working completely fine last night; this morning, no sound is coming from the laptop, either through speakers or through headphones (audio jack).  I am, however, able to get sound through a bluetooth-connected speaker.
I had hoped this was a software issue.  Tried uninstalling/installing all sound devices, updating BIOS, updating drivers, system restore to previous date, rebooting a million times, etc.  No joy.
When I run the sound troubleshooter, it says that no speaker, headset, or headphone appears to be plugged in.  The sound icon has a little red circle/white X next to it.  When I try to plug in headphones, nothing happens -- does not seem to detect the event.  When I press the mute and volume buttons on the tablet, no response.
Also, under Device Manager -> Sound, video and game controllers, it lists only "Bluetooth Hands-free Audio" and "Intel Display Audio".  I don't think either of these is the normal X220 audio driver, is it?  What else should be there?  I downloaded the Conexant Audio Software from Lenovo's site (this is what came up when I searched for audio drivers for the X220 tablet), and tried to install it, but halfway through, it said the install failed because it couldn't locate the device for the driver.
This sounds like it's a hardware problem -- any way to verify?  Also, which piece of hardware exactly?  Is it the sound card (that's presumably integrated into the motherboard --> no easy fix)?  I'm guessing it's not the speakers themselves since the headphone jack is also affected, but what is my best line of testing at this point to confirm that?  If it IS the sound card, any suggestions on the best fix?
    Many thanks in advance!
    Solved!

I was wrong - I did upgrade to a 3 yr warranty (had forgotten about this) so hopefully it's covered!
Thanks for having me double check!

  • My Macbook Pro wont play sound through Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter on toshiba television anymore. The sound plays through sony or samsung television, but not toshiba television.

I have a Macbook Pro early 2011 running on mountain lion version 10.8.2. A while back, i purchased a mini display port thru HDMI port so i could watch dvds on my toshiba television. it all worked great for a while, then the sound just stopped working. At first, I thought the mini display port connector must have broke, until I plugged it into a sony television and it worked. I also tried using it through a samsung television and it worked just fine. Why does it not work through the toshiba television anymore? The picture works fine, but the sound does not come thru the television anymore. My mac is set to play sound thru the HDMI port and it doesnt. When i switch it to built in internal speakers, the sound comes thru my mac, but when i switch it, no sound comes out. Any help would be greatly appriciated. Thank you!

I am still waiting to receive a response from them, but i dont think they'll be much help. the television still works fine and all of the ports on the back, including both HDMI ports, work perfectly.

  • I HAVE TIS NOISE IN MY IMAC AND IT DOES NOT SOUND LIKE THE FAN BUT A SWOOSHING FRYING SOUND THAT LASTS FOR ABOUT 3 SECONDS BUT NOT EVERY TIME I USE THE IMAC.  LIKE THIS TIME, I'M ON IT FOR 45 MIN. & IT DID NOT HAPPEN. ?? WHAT IS IT ?

I have had this imac for one year and 2 mos.  recently I hear a swooshing noise like speakers are frying when I power up and again intermittantly which lasts about only a few second and quiets down by itself. I have mt portable DVD drive unplugged, I turn down the volumn on the imac but it makes no difference.
I don't have applecare so I guess I should take it to the local apple store in Santa Monica ffor them to check it out.  But it could be that it wont do it when you expect it to happen ???
Is anyone familiar with this sound ?

Could it be the hard drive making this noise?
Or could it be the fans?

  • My speakers and earphones will not work. worked fine last time I used but not at all when I started

I used my dv6 6033d last night on Skype and it worked great.  Today when I started my computer, I have no sound from internal speakers or the earphones.  It dosn't show on mute.  What can it be?

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).  Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.
If none of the above resolves the issue, take the device to Apple for evaluation.

  • Changing a patch or sound on ext synth crashes GB 08 but not GB 3 pros help

I havent tried this on logic express but maybe you guyz can figure this one out......
had a great system that never crashed!
i have a korg X50 audio outs that go into audio in of QUAD G5.
If i pick a real instrument tk and hit monitor on and play it records from my synth. If i change the patch no matter how
just changing the patch crashes GB vs 4.0!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
before i go crazy is there something im not doing here?
i had a wonderful working usable external KORG adding all the voices i wanted to GB3 but now no longer.
i do not use an audio interface. is this the problem now

i do not use an audio interface. is this the problem now
No, just sounds like a GB problem. Don't use GB, I think my version is v2.00 so I can't be much help. You mifgt want to check over on the GB forum and see if others are having the same problem.
I can think of a couple of things to try.
Does GB'08 crash if you're on a MIDI track when you change patches?
If no, a workaround might be to select a MIDI track before changing patches then back to a real instrument track.
If it still crashes it's possible you have a midi loop, does GB'08 have a MIDI Thru enable/Disable?
    good luck-

  • Audio sounds like half-speed on Zen Touch, but not on the

I've got TONS of Opie and Anthony that I'm moving from my computer to my Zen Touch. Unfortunately, many of the files sound as if they're playing at half-speed, even though the timer at the bottom is running at the appropriate speed. This only happens when I'm playing them on my Zen Touch; when I listen to the files on my pc, the sound is just fine.
Running firmware .00.06. I've read that there have been issues with new firmware, so I've been wary to update to a newer version.
If anyone can help, you'll make a guy really happy...Message Edited by taunter on 06-20-2005 :34 PM

    Taunter,
Here is a rundown of what MP3 bitrates you will want to have:
    Mono: 24KBPS and higher
    Stereo: 40KBPS and higher
If you try VBR, it may be difficult to figure out exactly where to place the slider, but I would suggest keeping it from the lower sections so that it doesn't drop into the Khz sampling range.
All WMA bitrates should work ok, since they do not sample lower than 22Khz.

  • Sounds Great in Logic 7.2 Express, but not so much when bounced to AIFF

When I play my track in Logic it sounds great, but when I bounce it and play the .aiff it doesn't, it sounds less dynamic, not as rich.
Can someone give me some advice/tips about bouncing? What are the best settings for the best sound quality? The track well end up on a cd.
    Thanks!
You can listen to the work in progress here (levels are not finished and this is an mp3):

    Dual G5 2.0   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

    Hey B,
The track seems fine dynamic wise, (apart from some audio clicks here and there). Are you using any audio interface? If yes, that can be the cause, after bounce you probably earing from the mac output.
If you're recording at 24 bit (44.1KHz), use dither at bounce, to have a nice 16 bit.
You can also use the mastering plug-ins on the Output 1-2, on channel strip, click on the inserts arrow>logic express>mastering and choose>final master pop or dance to see wich one you like best. This loads a bounch of plug-ins at the master that will give a nice push to your mix. Watach the levels if it's too hot, bring down the compressor gain.
    Best regards,

  • Audio audible in one Encore timline, but not the other?

    Hello,
I'm trying to troubleshoot an issue in an Encore timeline for Blu-ray with an MPEG-2 and AC3 file.  It's odd because with the exact same file specs for both video and audio, I'm able to hear the audio from test project timeline (shorter in duration), but not the full length project timeline (roughly an hour and half in duration).
I'm in the process of burning a disk to verfiy that the audio is simply not there, rather than a playback issue with the longer project, but can anyone suggest what might be failing here?  Again, the two projects appear to be identical in settings and file specs for video and audio, only the duration of one (working) is shorter than the other (not working).
The audio file has been validated outside of Encore as playing back audio.
Thanks for anything thoughts anyone might have here.  Btw, the project has no menu screens.  It is for a "play only" Blu-ray disk.
    Mtbakerstu

Stan, thanks for the questions / feedback.
As it turns out the file specs were not identical !  No fault of Adobe- an ingest / encode application from another company mysteriously swapped out channels 1/2 of audio to 5/6, and were not readable in Encore.   This information was not readiliy accessible within Encore, but was discovered in bringing the audio into Final Cut Pro (where it could be heard).
Thanks again for your thoughts, as always.
