Punch in & multiple tracks recording

I'm working with Logic Express for a few weeks now, and I need to know 2 things:
How can I make a punch in/out with Logic Express?
I worked with Adobe Audition, and I just needed to select the part of the track where the repair should be done, and play.
Now I just can't find out how it works with logic!
how can I record multiple tracks at the same time with my Tascam FW1082?, now I can only select 2 tracks for multiple record.....
Thanks!
Martin

As for "Punching in and out" i just loop the section that i wish to record over and BAM im done. You can use the magnifying glass to loop a certain area in detail or even use the loop markers on your Transport bar.
For multiple track recording press record and then shift+click the other tracks you want to record on.

??I have been doing a little reading on the forum for multiple track recording but I could not find anything specific enough for what i need. I have a Fostex digital recorder and i would like to either send out the multiple tracks of say a drum recording to multiple tracks on Majix Music Studio ten. I have been playing around with it but i cant find exactly what I need. Ideally I would like to use the ADAT format from a digital optical cable to bring in the individual wave files directly to the computer. But if?can find a better way or if sombody knows of a fairly inexpensi've digital mixer with at least 6 channels (any input preferably XLR). Also my recorder has SPDIF but only in a two track format. It also has MIDI outputs and inputs but so far I dont think I can use that?for controling my software and sending in multiple tracks. I know my program can do ASIO and WDM. But I dont know what inputs are assigned to what numbers. If any body can awnser any one of these questions please post. ASIO sounds great but how do I identify the track numbers to what input and can i input all the tracks from a digital input?Comp info:?Windows

W/ ASIO, you can record from as many sources as you get listed/selected separetley in ASIO input port list (meaning those w/ names like Line-In, S/PDIF-In, Mic-In, Aux-In since, there are many of those ports meant for internal routings (W-U-H)). I don't know if you can use S/PDIF and analog inputs simultaenously. Here are some detailed information for Creative ASIO drivers (for Audigy cards but ...) - http://forums.creative.com/creativelabs/board/message?board.id=profaudio&message.id=726
I think that Fostex is not very usable for you if you don't build a ADAT system over it. If you have the ADAT option in Fostex already available there and you can get 8 separate channels out from Fostex through it then you could get a soundcard which supports ADAT I/O (something like E-MU 22m ($99 atm.)) and record through Fostex into PC (though, A/D conversion quality Fostex does is propably not very good). Maybe you need more mic-preamps to record drums then too.

  • Multiple track recording via Firewire

I want to record multiple tracks, (preferably as individual WAV files,) from a firewire equipped mixing desk which provides direct outputs from each channel via firewire.
Can Soundtrack, (not Pro,) allow me to do this? I'd like to lay down up to 24 tracks at a time if possible.
Normaly I edit on ProTools LE with a dual 2GHz G5, but for convenience I'd prefer to use a 12" iBook as I'd be on location. Am I correct in thinking that it would be fine for basic track laying?

    Thanks Dave.
Tell me, do you know of file size importing limitations with Logic Express. The Digidesign people are telling me there is a 2Gb file limitation for importation into ProTools LE.
I was planning on backing up recording multiple WAV files on a Mackie hard disc multi-track recorder that creates separate mono WAV files for each track.
Snag is that I was hoping to hit record and leave it running for several hours - which could create WAV files that are quite sizable.
Either that or find a way to cut a WAV file into smaller pieces - but I've got a feeling that its not possible to do this.

  • Follow up info to "Multiple track recording probl

I used Cakewalk's Sonar 3 Producer's Ed, Cubasis and Diamond Xtreme's Audacity. 3 different recording studio desktop software packages and they all do the same wrong things as described in my initial post.

    Thanks Dave.

  • Multiple Track recording without a firewire interface?

I have a unibody MacBook without firewire- I want to record two tracks in GarageBand simultaneously. I have a USB iMic, and would like to have one mic on the iMic and another on my built-in mic port to record both simultaneously for my podcast. Is it possible to do this? I have considered plugging two mics into a headphone splitter, however I would like the ability to manipulate each track individually, IE place effects on one and not the other. I have looked into the Alesis Multi-Mix 8 USB mixer and, however nice, is too expensive for my podcast budget- even used (~$200). Is there a plugin? Is there alternative software? Thanks. Scott

  • Multiple track recording nightmare

    Hi there!
Just got a Macbook Pro (DuoCore 2.0 gHz, 1 gb RAM, 80 gB 5400 rpm HD) and tried recording 6 simultaneous tracks with a Firepod on a Firewire 400 connection. BUT, Cubase LE and GarageBand 3 have been doing the dorks since they give me this kind of error message "The program couldn't continue recording because the hard drive is too slow or the buffer size isn't sufficient. Try augmenting the buffer size or check the HD blablabla"
So, I checked the HD in the Disk Utility and it said that it was ok...Then, I augmented the buffer size to the maximum and downgraded the sample rate to 44.1 kHz at 24 bits and the message kept on appearing!
Please help me, because I am seriously planning on returning the Macbook to Apple if it can't deliver the performance we require.
    Yves
Macbook Pro 2.0 gHz, 1 gb RAM   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Cubase LE and Garageband 3 were the only applications running at the moment and nothing but the Firepod was plugged in the Firewire...
The site founder of BigBlueLounge actually told me that my MBP should be more than able to handle the work...

And the Firepod is doing some strange synching LED things right now (what's next?). Maybe I'm close to a solution...

  • I record multiple tracks (3-5) from real instruments and vocals. I want to send these files to a collaborator to add more tracks to, but Garageband wants to mix these down (which I don't want). How can I send the multiple tracks files to my friend?

I record multiple tracks of real instruments and vocals wth Garage Band. I want to share the file with a collaborator so he can add another instrument or two. I have not found a way to do this without the process mixing down the tracks. I don't want them mixed down like when I send them to Itunes. Also I can't seem to just attach a file directly to an email for sending purposes. I thought I saw a method to do this with software instruments, but how do you do it with real instruments? I've tried every process on the "export" list to try to accomplish this, without success. Thanks for any breakthrough advice on this!

As isteveus said - for large projects uploading to a server would be best.
Also I can't seem to just attach a file directly to an email for sending purposes.
But for completeness's sake , you cou can mail a project, if you ctrl-click the project and use "Compress xxx.band". This will compress the project and create a zip file, that you can mail (if it is not too large). But ask your friend for the maximal file size allowed as a mail attachment.
But whichever method you use to share your project, be sure you include all loops and instruments, if your friend does not have the same JamPacks installed. You can bundle the loops into the project by saving it as an archive. "File > Save as" and check the "Archive Project" option.
If this option should be disabled, you can force it to become active by editing your project slightly. It is only available, if the project needs saving.

  • Trying to record multiple tracks (24) in Garageband with 3 presonus firestudio devices daisy-chained together.

Please help !! I can record multiple tracks (8) on a single presonus firestudio, but now I'm trying to expand the number of tracks to 24 by daisy-chaining three firestudio devices.
The three units will sync up properly, and Garageband detects all of the input channels, but the recording doesn't pick up the input signals for the 2nd or 3rd device. It only picks up the signals from the first device. I read the manual and daisy-chained the devices by serial number (lowest to highest).
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

  • Record to multiple tracks - no audio

I have a simple, 2-track project that I want to mix into one ("record audio to multiple tracks simultaneously"). I basically just need to ride levels on one track while the other track level stays static.
    TK1: music
    TK2: dialog
I then arm Tracks 3 and 4 to record and then I hit Record (CMD-R). When the :30 music bed is done playing thru and I listen back to the resulting audio on 3 and 4, I hear nothing.
I suspect there are issues with my settings in the Recording tab which are as follows:
    Input: Built-in Input
    Stereo
1 and 2 are selected and 3,4,5,6 are grayed out.
    Monitor is set to "None"
Why am I not getting my recorded audio?
    Thanks for tips!

I'm kind of confused as to what you are trying to do here.
Do you already have the two tracks in STP, and you need a mix of them? If so, you can just automate the levels with volume envelopes, then export the mix. (Make sure that submix 1 is set for stereo (1-2) not surround (1-6).)
If you're not trying to do that, what are you trying to do? When you record the built-in input, that means you are recording something which is connected to the built-in input on your mac. If the source you are trying to record is the software or other software on the mac, you can't do it with STP alone.
    Hope this helps!

  • Can I record multiple tracks simultaneously in v. 1.1?

Hey, I found some instructions online about how to record multiple tracks simultaneously in version 3, but I can't figure out how to do it in the old version I have, 1.1. Any help is appreciated. I'm crossing my fingers and hoping this feature wasn't implemented later. I have a two-mic setup for podcasts, and need to record both on diff. tracks.

Multi-track recording was added in v2
From STP 2 Manual - New Features:
    Multitrack Recording
With Soundtrack Pro 2, you can record across multiple tracks in the Timeline. (This is limited only by your hardware setup.)
    So, not available in v1
    Have you tried Garageband?

  • How can I record multiple tracks simultaneously?

How can I record multiple tracks simultaneously?  Or rather what hardware do I need to do this?  I currently run guitars and mic into a PA and then the PA into Garageband.  But this is just one track.  I want to record the guitar as one track while simultaneously recording vocals as another track.  What hardware do you suggest - keeping it affordable?

if you want to use your two chanel PA, pan 1 channel to the left, and the other to the right, and set one GB track to Mono 1 and the other to mono 2.
if you want better quality, any two channel interface will work:

  • How to do one comp on multiple tracks..

I may be missing the an obvious feature, but I can't work out how to apply the same comp to multiple tracks. I.e. I record an instrument with more then one mic and am left with several tracks of the same take however from different microphone and positions. I then comp the best take, however I want my comp to be the same on each of the individual tracks. Please could someone help?
    Regards,
    t

I believe I may have answered this before, but anyway: the trick is to make the tracks part of the same group. In the group settings, chose only Regions selection (Edit). Now, when you edit one track, the other tracks in the same group will follow.
    Hope this helped!

  • Moving multiple tracks & group hiding...

There are a lot of reviews on Logic 9, all of which focus on Flex time, but there are some simple questions that I would like to ask that I can't seem to get out of any review, perhaps someone here knows. Hardly any of the stores here have Logic 9 installed so I can't test...
    1) Is it possible to move multiple tracks in arrange at the same time? I.e. shift select or lasso select 2 or more tracks and move them in arrange?
    2) On the new group tracks dialog (with the list of all groups, etc.) I noticed that you can "Hide" groups. However, is there some keypress + click option that allows you to "Show" a group that you've selected? So an example would be, every track is shown, and I just want to "Show" my drum group, would I have to hide all, then find the drum group and uncheck it?
    3) Is there any way to show both the L&R waveforms on a stereo audio file? Or are we still limited to the one waveform? Maybe I just don't know how to show this, it might be something simple.
    4) Is there a "Jump to grid" sort of option like in cubase or PT? Basically, if you are in arrange, and you click in the bars beats area, can the current position jump to the closest grid location? I don't know how else to explain this, hopefully someone here knows what I mean.
    5) The new click zones looks like what the doctor ordered, but is there a click zone at the top of the waveform to control the region volume ala Cubase/Nuendo/PH Record? I know that you can do this on the volume automation lane, or insert something to control gain pre inserts and automate that, but I just want to know if the click zones included that.

nobody has an answer to these?

  • Synchronization of multiple tracks

I have been working with Java Sound for around a month now and there is a glaring shortcoming: no synchronization for multiple tracks.
I am writing a multitrack recorder in which a recorded track can be played while the user is recording a new track. Both tracks can then be played simultaneously with the correct timing that was heard during the recording phase.
Is there a way to do this with JMF?

    hacksmurf wrote:
Is there a way to do this with JMF?Ummmmm, theoretically. You can syncronize two or more controllers with JMF, and you can play multiple "tracks" of data simultaniously...but I can't guarentee that, in the end, you won't run into the same problems with JMF that you're having with JavaSound. There's a fundamental problem that, in order to play and record, you're using multiple threads and you have inherant delays between what the user hears and what the computer records.

  • Exporting multiple tracks for podcast?

I recorded the voices for a podcast on the first track, and put some jingles/bumper music music on the second track. When I tried to Share>Export song to disk, it only exported one track or the other. How do I export multiple tracks?
    Thanks.

Don't know if there's something glitchy with podcast exports, but unless you have one Track soloed or muted they should both export. Make sure there's no Ducking turned on.
