Punch in/out

When punching in - can you adjust the count in feature to be longer than one measure?

No, that's a constant in GB that you can't change. A workaround is to start one bar earlier - you can easily pull in the region later. If you think that this conflicts with the earlier recordings on the track, duplicate the track, record on the new one, and pull the new region over after recording.

  • Momentary punch in/out foot switch help needed

    Hi all,
I'm looking to find a usb keyboard or device that i can use with LOGIC 9 to plug in a momentary punch in/out foot switch.
I have an M-Audio Oxygen 61 - but I can't tell if it  has the input or not?
    Thanks in advance

I might approach it like this..... Open your template song. In the environment, create a new transformer and check the box next to the icon in the inspector so that it shows up as a possible arrange track. Double click the transformer to open it and program it to transform sus pedal (cc#64 I think...) to some other unused controller. Select the transformer track in the arrange page, open your key commands and set the transformed cc data to the record toggle (delete the original sus pedal setting from the controller list). Save the template song with this transformer and arrangement with the transformer track in it. Now when you build a new song from the template, you can select the transformer track when you want to use the pedal for record toggle, and select the appropriate instrument's track when you  want the sus pedal.
There are probably other (better?) ways of doing this.. one of the best things about logic..... Perhaps some one else will offer up a simpler way. It might just be easier to open KC window and delete the sus/rec. toggle setting when you don't need it and just reprogram it when you do.....

  • Punch in/out and crossfades

I'm really surprised at how lousy the documentation is for Garageband '08. I'd just like to learn how to:
    1 - Punch in on a track
2 - Smooth out the result of the punch-in (I belive that's called crossfading, correct)
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Scott

I still haven't exhausted all the possibilities, but to add to these comments ... if you can't play along with the original track to "get ready" for the punch-in .... then I wouldn't really call it a punch in, and it's not the ideal solution, at least musically.
What was suggested to me elsewhere is to split the track where you'd like the punch in to be (which isn't ideal if it's in the middle of a phrase) and then delete what you'd like replaced. Then duplicate the track. Then you can record on the duplicated track, playing along with the original, without erasing it.
The part that I'm still not 100% clear on is how to combine the two tracks SEEMLESSLY (meaning with NO evidence of the edit). The first reply I got to this post talked about "curves", but I still haven't figured out if there's a simple way to do this.
There's got to be a decent way to do this ... if not, I'm going to have to learn ProTools LE.

  • Punch in/out latency issue!

I'm having a pause in my audio when I punch in and out of logic. The song is still rolling but the music stops for a second. I know this is a simple hardware setting. I can't remember if it's the buffer size. Anyway, is there a standard buffer size, etc...?
    Thanks!!

  • Triggering my own punch in/out remotely

    Hi,
I'm trying to figure out an elegant and clean way to trigger my own record, puch in/out from my 'quiet' room (aka closet) where I can't reach the computer. This way I can record without anyone's help. I don't want something super fancy and expensive either. I tried to see if maybe I can write an apple script to let me use my remote control that came with the iMac to trigger Logic Pro commands, but I can't seem to find info on having remote control commands via Apple Script. (hey trying to get creative )
I have a pedal for my motu which can send a signal to logic to start and stop recording, but that's not enough, I need to be able to rewind to a spot. set the punch in, hit record. Essentially like the old OTR controls.
I also though of trying to see if I can use Saling Clicker with my bluetooth phone to control Logic Pro that way, there doesn't seem to be a way to.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks

    And the winner is...
Tranzport. I got it yesterday, and I was driven by the fact that they also released 2 days ago a universal binary version of their driver. It is flat out amazing, I am so much more productive than using the mouse. Makes me think a Makie Universal Controller is not too far down in the future.
    Thanks for this excellent recommendation.

  • Yet another nasty punch in/out bug

What is this?? Punching in before a region then punching out inside the region DELETES IT! This is in replace mode. Am I missing something here? Check it out:

+- Flex Markers can align & snap to MIDI notes _Performing a punch-in recording with Replace Mode now behaves correctly_+
Isn't the problem discussed in this thread exactly the bug that 9.02 is supposed to have fixed?
This is not the problem. Replace mode was broken with the release of version 9, but was fixed in the 9.02 update.
The problem we're discussing here, is, the audio region that follows the punch out point often now disappears from the arrange page.

  • Help! Cannot Get Garageband 11 to allow me to punch in / out

So I'm trying to basically punch in / punch out with Garageband 11, but I'm having some trouble. I'm trying to use the cycle region feature, as instructed in the manual under the heading "Record over a specific part of a project". But everytime I do that it simply starts recording take after take. And it only keeps the section I set with the cycle ruler, the rest of the track gets totally muted by a new take being layed across the top of it. This isn't supposed to happen when using Real Instruments. From what I've read I should be able to fix mistakes by punching in and and out with the cycle region setting. According to the manual, it should record the new part once then play it back, and hopefully seemlessly fit with what has left of the original track recording. None of this is happening.
However the manual seems to indicate that the same procedure is used for recording multiple takes. Is there a way to switch between the two modes (recording multiple takes vs. recording over a part of a track)? Is this just a big flaw in this version of Garageband? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The track is always muted when you record on it, so you will never be able to hear the passage right before your recording starts. If you want to accomplish that, duplicate your track and record on the second one.

  • Logic Pro X Unknown Punch-Out Range

    Hello,
For some reason when I try and setup an auto punch, the punch out marker is unknown and the red bar seems infinite... so I can't set a proper out point. Does anyone know how to reset the range... maybe enter it manually?
    Thank you.

    Hi
Control Click on the Control Bar and customise: add show Sample Rate/Punch Locators
You can then adjust the Punch locators numerically
Alternatively, use one of the Punch In/Out locator key commands such as Set Punch out Locator by Playhead (default Control Option Command O)

  • Reverse text out of spot colour?

    Hi there
I have a block of over-printing spot colour out of which I would like to reverse some text. However, the block overlaps some other coloured objects and these must not have anything knocking out of them, meaning I can't just use the Paper swatch for the text. I can convert the text to outlines and punch it out of the block with the Pathfinder, but is there anyway of achieving the same effect while keeping the text editable?
    I'd appreciate any thoughts.

    You could try these

  • Punch in manually w/o a stutter?

When punching in/out a guitar or vocal, garage band only allows a bar headstart. That's not enough runway. If I run the track back a few bars and attempt to punch in manually, the track stops briefly or stutters enough to ruin a smooth punch in.
    Any thoughts would be appreciated.

You do need a plug adapter, just not a voltage converter.
So all you need is something to make the plug on your power brick fit Indian outlets

  • Punch in & multiple tracks recording

I'm working with Logic Express for a few weeks now, and I need to know 2 things:
How can I make a punch in/out with Logic Express?
I worked with Adobe Audition, and I just needed to select the part of the track where the repair should be done, and play.
Now I just can't find out how it works with logic!
how can I record multiple tracks at the same time with my Tascam FW1082?, now I can only select 2 tracks for multiple record.....
    Thanks!
    Martin

As for "Punching in and out" i just loop the section that i wish to record over and BAM im done. You can use the magnifying glass to loop a certain area in detail or even use the loop markers on your Transport bar.
For multiple track recording press record and then shift+click the other tracks you want to record on.

Do you have auto drop enabled? Look for a red bar at the top where the green cycle bar is. It will punch you out at the end of the red bar.

  • Set maximum record time?

Can I set maximum record time in Logic 8? Recording an hour-long live program unsupervised, & I'd like it to stop afterwards.
(I don't know any problem with continuing recording for hours until the hard drive is full? But it's not necessary.)
    thanks

You can use the Auto-Punch In/Out function to set Logic stop recording automatically.
Also, set the bar value for the project end (at the transportbar, under the tempo).
For How long you can record depends on you HD capacity, but also the file format (aif,wav,caf...) the bit depth and the sample rate.
each format has its own limit.
Refer to user manual and check for the best file format for your purpose.

  • Foot Control to Start/Stop Recording??

Does anyone know if Garageband can be remotely controlled to start and stop recording? Isn't there some sort of midi foot control pedal that allows this? If anyone has any experience with this, I'd love to hear!

The iControl is a control surface that controls many things in GarageBand. However, I don't think it could be used for a remote control for punching in/out.
I agree. We need some kind of remote start/stop "peddle" type controller. I just ordered the PowerMate from Griffin. I don't need 50' of cabling, just about 5' or so. Should be perfect for me. I dunno about setting it on the floor and stomping on it though

  • Multiple recording passes for cycle/autopunch

Okay, this is a basic tracking question: I've got a cycle area defined, and within that cycle an autopunch region. What I want to do is record multiple takes within that autopunch region every time the cycle repeats. The problem is, every time the cycle repeats, the transport switches from record to playback. If I hit the record button again when the cycle repeats, the record button lights up, but nothing actually records. Basically I have to stop the transport every time and then hit "Record" in order to record an additional take. The user guide implies that you should be able to record additional takes during a cycle, but I can't figure out how to get it to work. If you create a cycle area with autopunch turned on, the transport reverts from record to play on each cycle. But if there's no autopunch area, the transport remains in record mode with each cycle pass.

You're not crazy - I am new to Logic & Mac's (having used Sonar & PC's many years) and came upon this exact problem. Looking at threads from other forums some people claim Logic had this functionality in earlier versions. It is apparently a known bug - (you can refer to this link: http://www.chellman.org/audio/logicgotchas_marquee_tool_and_autopunch_with_cyclerecording.html ).
Cycle recording combined with autopunch is the main if not only method I use for punching in/out. I really hope Apple will address this seeing how I recently gave up on pc's for hd recording and have moved to (and just purchased) a Mac and Logic.
So far the only way I can see getting around this is recording in cycle mode - setting the cycle time region before and after you actually want to punch in/out, recording multiple takes, and then using the comp editing procedure to basically "select" the bit you want to use from one or multiple other takes (this would have been the region defined by autopunch) and using the initial part of the original take (the part you wanted to play over, hear, and synch up with but not hose) from the original take. I tried it and this works, but imo it is very cumbersome and way more time consuming.
