Punctuation jumps my cursor in Apple Mail

Whenever I create an email in Apple Mail, if I put in a single or a double quotation mark, it moves the cursor down one line.  It doesn't make a hard return just dumps it down to the beginning of the next line.  Every contraction jumps the cursor and I use a lot of contractions in emails.  Is there some sort of setting that I need to change?  Or is this a sign of bigger problems?

Yes - notes can be synced with the Mail.app notes feature on a Mac.
This is selected under the Info tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes below the Other section near the bottom.
Notes syncing requires Mac OS X version 10.5.7 or later on a Mac.

  • Apple Mail as Exchange client - unable to jump to replies

Our office is (trying to) use Apple Mail v4.3 as client toExchange Svr 2010. Amongst a host of other odd behavior (I'm starting to think that Apple should stop touting Exchange interoperability as a feature, because it really ISN'T ready for primetime), we're finding that when a user tries to jump to a reply they've sent by clicking the reply indicator (the swirly arrow), they get an error:
Mail was unable to find your reply to the message "<subject>". You may have deleted the message.
The message is, in fact, in their Sent mailbox; it just seems that the link to it is broken. Can anybody else verify this behavior for me and/or have any suggestions for how to fix it?

This would point to an issue with indexing, and would hopefully be resolved by removing the account and setting it up again, or by forcing reindexing via the following:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mail/3.0/en/14019.html
Note that with IMAP or Exchange accounts, there is the special treatment requiring removal of the account folders. Have you ever removed the Envelope Index without removing the account folders, by any chance?
After you do this, you should again test.

  • Restore Apple mail from time machine

The configuration of account information accidentally deleted for Apple Mail 4.6.  How to retrieve/update this information from Time Machine?

I'm not exactly sure what you are getting at so if my answer doesn't help you progress, I am sorry.
If you first go to Mail and then to that part of mail you wish to review.   With the page on your screen, go to dock > Time machine (if that is where you hold it) wait a moment and when the screen activates put your cursor on the date line (to the right).   Then scroll upwards to a point in time prior to when your problem appeared.
Clicking on restore should bring the screen to the  front and the mail page at that time and date will be available to you.

  • Apple Mail Still Will Not Work with Verizon

    Greetings to All:
    Sunday, March 24, 2013
I've been trying to get Apple Mail to work with Verizon email for some years without success. I read the boards and find that this is not an uncommon problem. I received the new server settings for Verizon email today and eagerly plugged them in thinking this would solve my problems with receiving Verizon email, but, alas, it did not. Microsoft Outlook does a dandy job of pulling in Verizon email, but Apple Mail cannot. It's ridiculous that I should have to jump over to another email app to open one email account. All of the settings have been checked and double checked and the machine rebooted as the instructions mandate.
I don't understand what the problem is with Apple Mail and Verizon email. Apple Mail pulls in just about every other email service without flaw. Does anybody out there have any insight into this?
    -Dr. John

I am beyond frustrated with this issue.  I've just spent 90 minutes on the phone with verizon support and it couldn't be fixed.  I was told to call Apple.  HAH!  "Please call during normal business hours."  Would anyone know what they are???!
I did NOT have trouble until I changed the servers, per Verizon's request. I am so happy I didn't futz aroudn with my iPad.

  • Does anyone know how to use a self signed certificate with apple mail??

Ive read about it in mail's help and tried to set it up according to it. Ive created a self-signed certificate but have no idea how to set it up as it would work with Mail so that i would be able to send signed messages. could anyone help me??

    Hello rado:
    Welcome to Apple discussions.
I am assuming this is what you read:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.5/en/8916.html
If you follow the instructions when you set up the certificate, you should be fine.
Incidentally, most +"ordinary users"+ (like me) do not use this function. I am curious as to why you want to jump through hoops in your Mail application.

  • Named Anchors not working in Apple Mail

Hi... we have an HTML Email Newsletter. About 2 months ago the named anchors (links) from the top to different parts of the email stopped working right. For years, named anchors would simply go to the section of the email that you desired. The location of the anchor would appear at the top of the email window. Recently, the links have still worked, but Apple Mail would put the location at the bottom of the email, requiring the user to scroll down to see the content. And even more recently, now we have to double-click the link at the top to get it to work, and still incorrectly.
At first, this seemed to only not work in system 10.6. But now it's working the same way in 10.5. I am surprised a web search hasn't found anyone else with this problem. It affects not only our emails, but any email that has a link from the top of the email to any other part of the email.
Is this just a bug in Apple Mail or is there a fix? Thanks in advance!

I have exactly this same problem - anchors now move the cursor so that the desired text is just off the bottom of the message window, and one has to scroll to see it.
This is obviously an error - it is inconsistent with all web / anchor behavior I am familiar with.
    What's going on?????

  • Problem with Apple Mail and GMail

Can anyone help me with the following problem. I use Apple Mail as my client and GMail iMap as my server. When I create mails I often get a problem (I think caused by the trackpad) where the mouse jumps and I seem to generate a spurious draft email. The result is that I have a mailbox called "All Mail" in the Mail sidebar which contains over 10,000 messages, even though I only have a few hundred real messages (inbox, sent and spam) and my drafts folder is empty. In this mailbox there are numerous versions of the same emails saved during the creation of the email, all slightly different. I just don't understand what is going on.

POP access on yahoo accounts is not free. A yahoo mail plus account is needed.
As far as I am aware Hotmail does not allow any POP access at all. I couldn't find any specific information on POP access in Hotmail's help site.
    Hope this helps

  • How to retrieve deleted gmail in apple mail.

During the process of deleting thousands of emails in apple mail, I accidentally deleted all the email.  Can this be undone or can I retrieve those deleted emails?   The trash has been emptied.

In the mailbox list, below the word "MAILBOXES" and the standard mailboxes (Inbox, Drafts, Sent, Trash, & Junk), you should have some lines like "SMART MAILBOXES", "REMINDERS", "RSS", "ON MY MAC", and a line with the name of each of your mail accounts. Each of those lines may have subordinate lines indented below it, or they may be hidden. Before Lion, the top-level lines would have standard disclosure triangles to their left like folders, but Lion Mail removed that visual clue in favor of a word "Show" or "Hide" to the right that appears only when you mouse over it.
The Gmail Spam folder you seek is two folders deep inside your Gmail account.
    Here's my Gmail account listing:
It has 41 unread messages. If I hover my cursor over the oval with "41" in it, the oval shifts left and "Show" appears. If I click on "Show", I get this:
If I click on the disclosure triangle left of the "[Gmail]" folder, voila!
By the way, this intermediate "[Gmail]" folder is specific to Gmail, Google Apps mail sites, and other mail sites using Google's Gmail code, as is the All Mail folder. Other servers will have their own folder structure.

  • Apple mail copy paste problem

I sometimes have problems pasting text into an email using Apple Mail. Sometimes it pastes the copy somewhere other than the cursor insertion point. Sometimes, more recently, when I paste copy from Illustrator or Text Edit it places a png picture of the text that I highlighted and copied.
I'd appreciate any ideas that might fix it.

  • Apple Mail Cut & Paste Problem...

I have a problem with Apple Mail when I cut some text and paste it somewhere else within the message it doesn't go in where the cursor is located! Instead it pastes into what appears to be a random place elsewhere in the message usually at the start of the line or paragraph.
It's really strange and completely unfathomable. The only solution I've found is to put in a couple of returns paste it in to the message then move the cursor up and delete the newly added line breaks.
I thought it might be a font issue so I changed my default font from Arial to Trebuchet and it's still doing it. This doesn't appear to happen in any other application.
This is not exclusive to Snow Leopard as it does it on my Mac at home which is running Lion.
    Any advice gratefully received.
    David

    David -
I have also been experiencing this oddball aim issue when attempting to insert clipboard contents into a specific point in Mail. I am writing to lend credence to the contention that this is an Apple Mail issue that really should be fixed. Apple started the cut & paste revolution and the fact that one of their key software packages cannot paste properly strikes me as a bit ludicrous.
This started happening on both my iMac and MacBook Pro a few months ago. It could be that it correlates with my use of three different styled signature files for three different e-mail accounts (I hadn't thought of the connection, so thank you, I had been wondering if they had altered something in one of their many security updates).
I desired that the body text of my e-mail  default to something different from the style of my signature files. Mail is fairly limited in this area, so I include a top line my signature file that has the right style for my body text. Now I start all messages by overwriting that styled text, so my message font is as I want it. Is this the source of the problem?
The inability to place text correctly isn't restricted to pasting something in via clicking on a particular spot in the e-mail. Odd things also happen if you use the directional arrow keys to move the cursor around with the keyboard and then command-V, or if you drag text to a certain spot, and when you release, it refuses to go there.
There's some logic to the mistakes. The text is almost always placed a couple of lines above where the insertion point is blinking, and you can fool Mail sometimes by placing text in the middle of a bunch of new returns and then deleting the surrounding lines, but this is cumbersome and annoying.
I hope Apple reads this, because it got so annoying that I switched to Outlook (Office 11) and it's terrific in some of the areas where Mail falters (work e-mail is Exchange). About the only thing that Mail does better is access my MobileMe folders much more quickly.
    Come on, Apple!

  • How to refine search settings in Apple Mail

I just started using Apple Mail in Lion, and I am not seeing a way to refine the search of my inbox. In particular, I would like to search my inbox by Sender, but I am not seeing how to search by sender or subject. Does anyone know how I might be able to do that?

  • Mountain Lion update crashing my "Apple Mail"

I just yesterday updated my relatively new MacBook Pro I have owned for 7-months from Lion to Mountain Lion. In the last 24-hours, my Apple Mail has crashed after installing Mountain Lion. Clearly, we have a serious bug in the Mountain Lion. I have sent each crash report to Apple and am confident they will jump on this and patch it quickly ( I hope !!!).
I am wondering if anyone else has found bugs similair to mine where you "Apple Mail" crashes for no reason after you have upgraded to Mountain Lion. Please share with me your experience.
I am also interested in any other bugs you have discovered in Mountain Lion. Lastly, please remember to report any and all crashes to Apple so they can get ontop of these bugs.
PS: Dispite my crashes on Apple Mountain Lion, there are many cool features I like about it. Meaning, I am not here lambasting Apple's Mountain Lion. This is all part of the process of releasing new software. Rarely, are they released 100% perfect and they end up relying on users like us to help them ferret out the many little bugs that need to be identified and squashed.
    Have a good day!

Miraculously, the post below about Lion works for Mountain Lion as well.

macmrjohn   Re: Mail 5 (OSX Lion) does not work after mailbox migration     Dec 15, 2011 1:43 PM    (in response to Alejandro M. Ramallo)  This same thing happened today when migrating a friend's laptop. THE SOLUTION: Inside the Library folder (Lion hides this folder now, so hold down the option key and use the Go menu in the finder — Library will appear in the menu. Go there.) you'll find the Mail folder. Inside the mail folder was another folder called V2. I simply took the contents of V2 and dragged them to the parent folder (Mail). When I launched mail again, everything was back to normal. As Apple says, "It's that simple!"
