Punkbuster Crashing Quake 4
Anyone else having this problem?
When I enable punkbuster in Quake 4, it crashes the game - every time. I tried upgrading punkbuster, and I have the latest Quake patch installed (1.2).
I also re-installed Q4 (including the 1.2 patch and PB) from scratch, and ran all basic maintenance tasks on my system.
Very strange. Hoping for a solution or some feedback from any other Q4 players out there. Thanks-
I have no idea how Quake 4 uses PB (I still play Quake3 :)) but if it is anything like in Quake 3 it sometimes worked when manually upgrading PunkBuster.
You might want to contact Aspyr Support or ask your question on a forum that is more games related, Inside Mac Games for instance.

Sound Card Problem, or Driver Problem? Games crash, when they didn't befo
Not sure what the problem is, but seems to be a sound problem of some sort. I have just re-installed Vista 64. And now when I try to play BF242, the game crashes before I even see any kind of gameplay. It also instantly crashes when I click on the audio options tab. I have installed the latest drivers from the site. I have even uninstalled them, and launched the game without any drivers, and the game runs perfectly fine, but only without sound.
But I've been able to play BF242 before, but it would evenutally crash after a while, but at least I was able to get into the game. So knowing that Ive been able to play before, and it played without any drivers, I dug up some drivers that I know I had working at one point when the game was playing. And it still crashes before it gets into the game.
So this makes me wonder, is this really a driver problem or a soundcard problem?
All sounds are perfectly fine elsware, music, movies, OS tones, web, etc. Crysis runs perfectly fine. Company of Heros Crashes, Quake Wars crashed about 0 mins into a game. Team Fortress 2 runs perfectly fine. Battlefield 2 instantly crashes.
Here's my specs:
Vista 64 Ultimate
Asus P5W DH Deluxe
Asus nVidia 8800 GTX
4gig Corsair XMS2 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel
Powersupply Antec True Power Trio TP3-550 550W ATX2V Power Supply with Three 2V Rails
Sound Blaster x-fi fatality (whatever the one that comes with the front computer interface)
Any help would be great. I'd hate to go buy a new sound card just to try it, unless I had a pretty good idea that it was the issue.I think I found the problem. It was the physical card itself. I pulled my old Audialogy card out of my old machine, and swapped it. Now BF242 runs.
And mine never went to a black screen, and had to hard reset. It just dumped right to the desktop with a message "bf242.exe has stopped working." -

Anyway to go back to 10.4.8??? I need my Quake fix.Hi
Needs to be iChat 3(OS 10.4) for multi chats video and audio.

I'm not sure where to start with this...so i guess I'll start with the obvious part:
"Couldn't init SDL video: No available video device"
is what I see when I try to run the quake 2 executable, mixed in with a few hundred other iterations of the same thing before the executable causes a segfault and dumps.
I *JUST* set up X for the first time and managed to get a file manager working in twm - and these things seem to be working as expected.
I compiled the quake 2 client from source and as far as I can tell, it had no errors compiling, though it didn't have any fanfare when it finished either, not so much as a "done" message. Regardless, I think it was a successful build because the quake 2 dedicate server seems to work fine, or at least it opens and runs. The key there being it clearly doesn't call any 3d acceleration.
I've installed what I believed was the intel 3d drivers, though I'm not sure of anyway to test for their presence beyond having pacman synchronize the packages again...
I've installed SDL and SDL2, though I didn't see anything about configuring any of them anywhere.
This is a big can of worms for me, so I'm not sure how to really approach dissecting the problem, but I'm thinking I screwed something up with the video drivers, I'm just not sure how to effectively troubleshoot that.
I've tried executing quake 2's client from command line and from within twm, same result in both places so that atleast leads me to believe it's a driver issue and not something with X
Edit:
I suspect that SDL infact, does touch X and if it can't get window/display data from it, it may wig out. Pretty sure my X.conf is messed up..

What is the service pack level of NT? I think we only support NT service pack 6 and higher.

Powermac crashes when playing games
Hi. I've got a problem with my Powermac G4 (Dual 450MHz).
Everytime I play a game (Quake 3 or Redline for example) the mac crashes sooner or later and I need to reboot. I've checked RAM, fixed HD permissions, fixed the HDs and cleared all cache. The mac has a stock ATI Rage128 Pro and 640 MB RAM. My mac crashes only when playing games, never when in "normal use".Hi
It may be worth just checking the ventilation holes in the case aren't clogged with dust etc and the case fan is still spinning okay. If games are the only time you 'stress' the processors (e.g. you don't also use it for DVD encoding etc), perhaps it's a heat issue. You could try temporarily using it with the case open to see whether it makes any difference, which would also allow you to check the fan(s). It seems unlikely but it may be worth a shot. -
Firefox consistently crashes when loading Flash sites
For a couple of reasons I decided to go ahead and install OSS a few days ago. On the first day, the install went smoothly and everything was working just as it should (I used the oss-linux-free PKGBUILD in AUR). Yesterday and today, however, I've started to get a reoccurring problem that is, to put it lightly, driving me nuts.
Firefox (or Epiphany, though I prefer the former) consistently crashes when opening up any site that uses Flash or Java. With the way the internet is going, this is a large chunk of websites—not being able to visit YouTube or the website for Enemy Territory: Quake wars, for instance, is driving me nuts.
Now, when I say "consistently" I don't mean each and every time. I've been able to get these sites to load a number of times, but in the last two days Firefox has crashed in probably 2/3-3/4 of the time when loading any site that has a Flash element. I've made sure that I have not wrongly assumed this has to do with my newly installed OSS by uninstalling, reinstalling the kernel and all ALSA packages, rebooting, and then surfing the web for a while to see if anything went wrong. It didn't.
So my question is this: why is Firefox crashing so often in the two days since I've installed OSS? What can be done to rectify this?
After some experimenting, it seems the problem is worst under the following conditions:
- Having several tabs open, though not necessarily several tabs with Flash
- Listening to music and THEN navigating to YouTube or something.
However, it's not specific to these circumstances. In fact, just before I decided to make this post I opened Firefox, went to a site with Flash on it (one tab), and it immediately shut down. I tried this three or four additional times and was met with the exact same results.
Other info
Firefox: Pre-compiled Mozilla i686 build, v. 2.0.0.11
OSS: OSS (GPL version) 4.0, build 1012
Operating System: Arch Linux 2.6.23-ARCH
I've also posted this here.I have the same problem. I've never been able to identify when it started. Once firefox crashes, mpd, if it was playing, becomes unresponsive. The only way to get a flash site working again is to reboot my computer.
I uninstalled flash: I'm not going to put up with that kind of behaviour. Now I watch youtube videos on other people's computers --you know how they say "You've GOT to see this movie!". And if I really need to see that one specific video, there's youtube-dl.
Unfortunately gnash doesn't work on youtube for me. -
Cisco RV120W crashed several times a day
Hello,
we are using the Cisco RV120W for our little network. The latest firmware (1.0.4.10) is installed!
But the router crashes about 6-10 times a day and have to be restarted. The Web Interface is also not available then.
It is configured as the subnet 192.168.12.0/24
The WAN connection is a static ip to a public subnet.
VLAN 1 is the default LAN (see above).
DHCP is enabled in that network and DNS proxy is disabled.
VLAN 2 is 192.168.10.12 whitout DHCP.
Ethernet Port 1 is configured as VLAN 2 for another subnet (192.168.10.0/24 from another router).
The other ports an WLAN are using VLAN 1 (192.168.12.0/24).
WLAN authentication is enabled (SSID 1) with a WPA2-PSK password.
After i reboot the router the logs are empty and i just can see the logs while the router is running.
after about 30 minutes i copied the logs from the router:

I installed Mavericks yesterday and have now got problems with QuarkXpress 9. Every time I click on an image and try to move it the application crashes. Anyone had similar problems or got any suggestions?
Hi Guys
Updated my 2 imacs to Maverick yesterday. Schoolboy error on my part not checking if there were problems with any programmes before I did.
Quark is now a nightmare with no short term answer on the way. As a Quark user for over 20 years this is just another reason to hold your hands up and say OK Indesign you win I will have to learn how to use you and Quark will be a distant memory.
I am told there will probably be no solution to getting quak 9 running on Maverick and that you will need to update to 10 in about 2-3 weeks to get back to normal. Having spent a few bob on 2 versions of 9.5 only in Feb this year i didn't really want to upgrade yet.
So its cough up to carry on using Quark or learn Indesign.
I have lost faith in Quark as they are quick to send me e-mails asking me to upgrade to this and that version, why didn't they send one out saying do not upgrade to Maverick. Perhaps they know there loyal follwing will uograde to 10 and will generate a nice little bonus before Xmas.
Lots to do today and will now take 10 times longer to do it. Is this 2013 or 1974!!!!!
If anyone hears of a solution please post ASAP -
10.4.11 crashes games
I hadn't played Quake 4 in quite a while (nor many other games for that matter), but a couple of days ago I tried and after a couple of minutes..kernel panic..I went and upgraded the game thinking maybe it was a compatibility prob. and same thing...I tried other games such as Luxor, Atlantis, Pizza Panic and while I wasn't getting a full blown kernel panic all games would freeze after playing for a couple of minutes..is there a pattern here? Is there a .kext file causing this to happen? This never happened with previous systems....TIA
Thanks BDAqua..I do not mean to sound disrespectful on ungrateful, but I have done archive and installs before and it has taken me up to a month to get things as they "were" .....What I am trying to find is some kind of RX to avoid re-installing..this is a copy of my latest crash..I was trying to play American McGee's Alice:

Help! MBP crashes in games!
Hi!
I've got a Problem with my 2ghz 15,4' MBP.
Everytime i run a game (wow, Quake 4 etc) the game freezes on me wihtin 15seconds-30 minutes.
Just an instant freeze, sometimes the music, soundfx continue for some while.
This happens to me under both os x and win xp via BootCamp.
Things ive tried so far:
OS X: Reinstalled wow, installed ati programm, updatet firmware and osx, redid "bad" 4.7 update, checked ram (memtest) and performance (xbench) all ok, updatet quicktime to 7.1.1., created a new account, did osx hardware check..a ok
xp: down- and overclocked card via atitools, re installed bootcamp,xp and wow, used omegadrivers
i dont know what to do...maybe my videocards broken?
thanks for your help!I'm only guessing, but with so little RAM the MacBook will be using a large virtual memory file on the hard drive (and reading and writing to it a lot) so it's possible things work OK until the game reaches a certain degree of complexity/activity ... (or it hits a bad sector on the disc I suppose) WoW always crashed hard for me on my old G4 and created lots of 'orphaned indirect nodes' on the drive.

IPhone 5 w/iOS 6.0 (10A405) crashes when moving apps
Not sure what the offending problem might be, but was wondering if anyone else is having this issue too?
I have the new iPhone 5 64GB AT&T version of the iPhone. Currently I have 246 apps installed on the iPhone which takes about 9GBs of storage and 6 home screens. My problem is when I move an app icon from one home screen to another it will crash the phone and the iPhone will restart. It doesn't matter if the app has the "new" banner or not. If I move it across to more than one home screen it will crash. If I move it to one home screen over, it doesn't crash.
Could it be a bad application installed or an inherit bug within iOS 6? I found another person with this same issue on another forum.List of Apps installed:

Hello all...I've been playing Quake 4 on my mac for about a month now. I usually wait for the game to boot up and then I hit the escape key 3 times to skip the videos that promote the gamemakers and get straight to the screen where I choose what I want to do. Today however, after seeing the first of the 3 videos starting, I hit the escape key 4 times instead of 3 (by mistake) and got an error message that stated "The application Quake 4 quit unexpectedly." I have no idea why this happened nor what to do to fix it. Now when I try to start the game, it doesn't even show the videos--it just goes from "Loading" to the error message. Clicking "report" yields the following:

There is too much information in the message report (;>) Some of it who knows?
A lot of stuff spit out about graphics and the drivers. The fact that it worked before and now does not makes me hope that it is something simple that I do not understand about how Quake works and that someone will have a simple answer. Probably a .plist file or other preference thing.
Do you have an external firewire drive? If not, it is good to have one for backup purposes anyway. However, if you do have one my suggestion would to be to try installing OSX and Quake only on the external drive, boot from that and see if it works.
Also try launching the Install or Utility disk/dvd that came with your system and run the Disk Utility and repair permissions on the system drive. Might help.

I am posting this as I cannot find any information on the problems I am having with my fatality card, and hope that some of you may have had the same problem or know of any fix available.
Ever since I have installed my X-fi I have been experiencing seemingly random crashes in games like Doom 3, Quake 4, and World of warcraft. I put these crashes down to the X-fi as this never happened before I installed the card.
The screen freezes and the keyboard / mouse is unresponsi've, the sound will stutter and loop constantly until the machine is restarted. There seems to be no pattern to the occurance of the crashes, sometimes I will load up a level in doom and play for 30 seconds - 5 minutes and it will crash, other times I've played for hours without incident.
I am using the most current driver for the x-fi and my graphics card (ati radeon 9800xt) and my bios is the latest version as well (asus a7n8x deluxe). The card installed fine with no errors.
Can anyone shead any light on why this may be happening? any info would be helpful as I have run out of ideas.Help!!!
This clearly looks like an issue between ATI cards and The Audigy/X-Fi sound cards.
I have AMD 64 3200
Audigy 2 platinum z
ATI Radeon 9600xt-VIO
SATA HDs
I have had this problem for months. I thought it was my board, finally got around to replacing it and the problem still happens.
Almost any game will do the exact same thing that everyone says here. My screen blacks out with sound continuing after a few minutes of play, then it comes back for about 0 seconds, then freezes and crashes my pc. World of warcraft is the game i wanted to play, but i cannot due to the freezes.
Since i thought it was my board, i replaced it, and installed a fresh Windows XP Pro. Still happens like clockwork. Updates bios and drivers to Catalyst 5.5. No luck. Update video drivers. NO luck.
So pulling my hair out i took it to CompUSA service center, where it sits now. Yesterday they finally worked on it and saw the issue (only after i begged them to play the game) They now think its a driver conflict and told me they are in contact with ATI.
They said when they remove the Audigy and the drivers, the game does not freeze or lock up.
Please CREATIVE, please help us here....

Windows 2000 (SP3) crashes on K7T Pro
Hi
I have a this configuration:
K7T Pro (BIOS 3.6)
Athlon 1200
256 Ram pc 133
Geforce 3 ti200 detonator 40.71
hdd 20gb maxtor
Windows 2000 with SP3
directx 8.1
4in1 drivers
the problem is windows hangs and the 4 back leds turn all green on any application and more specially on games like quake 3, i want to know if its caused by some drivers? or do i need to install a patch for windows 2000 that fixes some AMD issues or mobo problems?
help would be apreciatedSure you can Install a lv application manually. just copy the exe-file,
support files in a folder. For the runtimeengine just copy the file
lvrte.dll in the folder of your application or in the windows system folder.
Hope that helps, Niko

MSI KT4 Ultra based sys crashing/rebooting
Just Built a brand new machine with a KT4 Ultra, Athlon XP2000+, 512MB Corsair PC3200 Stick, ATi Radeon 8500 DV (64MB) card and a giant special edition hard drive from WD.
Love everything about the system - except it is clearly not functioning properly and I believe that I have isolated the problem down to the MOBO or problems associated there.
Problem is the system crashes in any taxing graphical situation. (Since I've only had it built for about 3-4 days, now, I only have a few fairly limited examples so bear wtih me.)
2-3 minutes into either Quake III or Unreal Tournament 2003 Screen goes black and system crashes - automatically rebooting. Problem also came up while trying to download latest AMD AGP sys file from AMD's site. (That is, so far, the only non-gaming example of this happening).
I have tried absolutely everything I can think of, and even a number of things that a savvy friend of mine could think of. Anyone else having this problem? Anyone got any ideas at all, here. Because this has got me totally frustrated.
Thanks,
BenQuote

BIOS is still what came with the board. I have only seen that the first version of this BIOS is available. I have looked for updated versions but I only see 1.0. Is there another version of this BIOS available? I would certainly love to try if it does exist.
