Purchase an IMac this spring with the intention of doing a few slideshows for my mother that is 85 years old and it seems that she will need to buy a IMac if she wants to view it. Tell me I am wrong and there is something I can do to convert slideshows!

Do you really need Idvd (which does not exist anymore on new IMac like mine) in order to get a slideshow made with Iphoto to work on a regular dvd reader?

Thats a website with the description how to export a movie.
MPEG-4 is the normal format, when your dvd-player can't read it, download "Miro Video Convrter"
(it's for free in the mac appstore)
Drag the MPEG-4 or the Quickime Movie into the box on the top and convert it as MP4, thats a "very"
normal format. It will be saved in the same folder you've got the original.
Drag the MP4 video onto your dvd and burn it. Than it should work.

No; but then, I've not had occasion to use TDM. I've been using firerwire drives for over 10 years, both FW400 and FW800, with no issues except a bit of instability using a B&W G3 machine.
TDM should be safe. Using cautious, manual copying of files from the Target machine to the Host machine should not result in unexpected loss of files or damage to the Target drive's directories. It should behave exactly the same as if it were an external (to the Host) firewire drive.

This is so frustrating! I have an itunes store account, etc. I lost all my info when I had to "restore" my iphone.
I wasn't able to do the "restore" until recently, gosh it was about 6mos or more ago when my iphone died...
So, as I get older I am having memory problems and haven't been able to access my itunes account.
Obviously when I did the "restore" on my iphone I lost all my info with it... So, wanting to use my iphone for
music, games, etc. I had to create a new apple id, fine, but when I wanted to download a "free" app it says
my apple id hasn't been used with itunes so it keeps asking for credit card info.
I do not remember ever having to have a credit card before!
I am so frustrated... First it was not being able to access my account then having to create a new one, fine!
But now I can't download "free" content without credit card information!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! UGH!!!!!!!

If you are within 14 days of purchase you can still return the iPhone and get the phone that suits your needs, however, I think you will find that no matter which phone you get the content provider will want to know how you are going to pay for future purchases. I bought a 3TB Time Capsule with the intent of using 2GB as space for Time Machine to backup my MacBook Pro Retina; and the remaining 1TB as network disk space for the Apple and my PC. But the 3TB all went to the Time Machine.

The TC is not able to be partitioned. (Well not without pulling it apart.)
You can create a disk image on it.

It might be better to do as Pondini suggests and plug in a USB drive to use for alternative data storage.. Mixing TM and data can lead to issues.

I would use Parallels or VMWare and use the second drive to hold the virtual machine. That way the VM only uses the space that it needs and you can still use the remainder of the drive for other things, not to mention that you would not need to reboot to run windows.
Also Time Machine does not back up a boot camp partition.

Also i forgot to add after a night of searching how to turn the Epson Workforce 435 printer into Airprint friendly and not iPrint (which are 2 completely different things) i donwloaded a program called (AirPrint Activator) from HandyPrint. The link is below to download the software. Once i installed the application i set my printer to be shared over my Home Network (Wi-Fi Network). Once you have done that, open the AirPrint Activator application you have just downloaded, swtich it ON from OFF mode, and then you should easily see your printer name in my case EPSON Workforce 435 and then just close the application. Then go to your IOS Device like your iphone/ipad/ipod touch select a picture that you want to test print or even an attached PDF from your email, and select Print in the share button. You will then be prompted to select your printer. Your printer you automatically be recongised then just select print. And now you have a complete AirPrint ready printer with a Printer that doesnt even support the function. Im sure you can do this to all Wireless Printers, even if they came out before Apple AirPrint service launch.

Are you running a Managed or a Referenced Library?
A Managed Library, is the default setting, and iPhoto copies files into the iPhoto Library when Importing. The files are then stored in the Library package
A Referenced Library is when iPhoto is NOT copying the files into the iPhoto Library when importing because you made a change at iPhoto -> Preferences -> Advanced. (You unchecked the option to copy files into the Library on import) The files are then stored where ever you put them and not in the Library package. In this scenario you are responsible for the File Management.
Assuming a Managed Library:
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
1. Quit iPhoto
2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.

Have an imac with snow leopard and Firefox 3.6.13. On a prompt downloaded and installed Firefox 3.6.16. Firefox opening Screen still shows 3.6.13. Have done this twice with the same result. Any help?

On opening Firefox 3.6.13 firefox screen suggests downloading latest version. Have downloaded and installed Firefox 3.6.15 (sorry typing error in previous entry). On opening Firefox, screen still shows 3.6.13 as the operating version although "Get info" shows that updating has been done. Thinking I may have made a mistake I have done this twice with the same result. The screen is still telling me to update.
Not really a problem using Firefox but I would like to know which version I am using.

I have had this problem for close to a year. I have an Extreme base station, two Airport Express's and multiple G4 Mac's with up to date software. I have spent a huge amount of time trouble shooting, resetting, reapplying software and finally calling Applecare without any help. It would be great to get this problem solved.
