Purchase iWeb 3.0??

I have an MB with iWeb 2.0.4 installed on it. I'd like to update to iWeb 3.0 without having to purchase the whole iLife 11 package. Is this possible? So far all I seem to be able to find is info on how to update 3.0 to 3.0.2, but the update apparently won't work with an iWeb version below 3.0.

I'd like to update to iWeb 3.0 without having to purchase the whole iLife 11 package.
That's no possible at this time. iLife 11 has been reduced in price from $79 to $49 since not all of the applications contained therein were updated for this release. The iWeb version included in iLIfe 11 is 3.0.2.

  • Want to purchase iweb but have questions. :)

I am considering purchasing iweb and I have a few questions
    1) I saw all of the webpages and they had no sound? is this typical?
    2) how many websites can you have with the .mac account? and do we need iweb to make a website?
    3) I wanted to make a website so that as soon as it loads a video (with sound ) will play without pressing a play button.
    4) can i use final cut pro to produce a video for this webpage?
    5) do i need .mac to run this web page? or do you all use other applications? please list other apps if any.
    and last question..............(drum roll)
    6) do I need to upgrade from my OS 10.3.9?
thank you all so much in advance for your kindness...

My answers pertain to using iWeb "as is" - which means not manually messing with the underlying html that it produces. Also, I don't have .mac, I use bluehost. so I will defer to any .mac users.
    1. You can drag audio files on but they show up with controls and need to be started manually.
    2. You can probably make lots of sites. .mac isn't very generous with disk space - that will most likely be your barrier.
    3. You will have to alter the html to make this happen. By default you have to press play.
    4. yes
    5. no, but certain features such as a hit counter are dependent on .mac. also, uploading only the changes to the site depends on .mac. I use a terminal session and rsync.
    6. no
iWeb is like the other i apps. it hides a lot from you. every time you publish to a folder ALL your sites will be published. this will only bother you if you don't use .mac - most likely. all your sites are kept in a single archive type file. It's made for people who know nothing about making a web page.
There is little flexibility. The sites follow templates based on CSS. IF you don't change the css your sites will be prevented from doing simple things like changing the color of web links.

  • Purchase iweb

can you still purchase i-web on the app store as a single app? I dont see it anywhere nor do I see where you cna purchase i-life

iWeb and iDVD have been discontinued by Apple. This is evidenced by the fact that new Macs are shipping with iLife 11 installed but without iWeb and iDVD.
On June 30, 2012 MobileMe will be shutdown. HOWEVER, iWeb will still continue to work but without the following:
Features No Longer Available Once MobileMe is Discontinued:
    ◼ Password protection
    ◼ Blog and photo comments
    ◼ Blog search
    ◼ Hit counter
    ◼ MobileMe Gallery
Currently if the site is published directly from iWeb to the 3rd party server the RSS feed and slideshow subscription features will work. However, if the site is first published to a folder on the hard drive and then uploaded to the sever with a 3rd party FTP client those two features will be broken.
All of these features can be replaced with 3rd party options.
There's another problem and that's with iWeb's popup slideshows.  Once the MMe servers are no longer online the popup slideshow buttons will not display their images.
However, Roddy McKay and I have figured out a way to modify existing sites with those slideshows and iWeb itself so that those images will display as expected once MobileMe servers are gone.  How to is described in this tutorial: iW14 - Modify iWeb So Popup Slideshows Will Work After MobileMe is Discontinued.
NOTE: the iLife 11 boxed version Is no longer available at the online Apple Store.  To get a copy you'll have to try Amazon.com or eBay.com.

  • Purchase IWeb as a stand alone?

Can IWeb be purchase as a standalone app or must one purchase the entire ILife 06?
    Thanks

I'm not even sure if you can use iWeb with the older iLife apps. Since it was introduced with '06, and iPhoto '06 updates the database, it may not be able to work with the older media libraries.

  • Managing multiple sites in different iWeb versions - PLEASE HELP!

apnewbie/cyclosaurus/roddy/old toad (and any others more knowledgeable than i):
i've run into a bit of a pickle. i am hoping someone can help straighten me out. i am about to jump out of a window. here's the rundown:
(for starters, i have a .mac account and am publishing to .mac.) i created a site in iWeb 1.1.2 on my work computer (mac book pro). worked great, really lovely. thought to myself, "hey, i'd like to create another site from home, but i don't have iWeb at home (powerbook G4) - i should buy iLife 08 so i can build these things from home and not have personal files on my work computer."
so: i had a site that i created within 1.1.2 with files written to iDisk. i purchased iWeb 08 and would like to have another site, but this one is being created in 2.0. i also am using a personal domain name this time around bought with google apps and hosted by godaddy. i published the new work in progress for a test run and...you guessed it...my original 1.1.2 site was rewritten by the 2.0 site. and the 2.0 site comes up as the standard google search page for domains that aren't up and running. whooopsie.
sorry for the lengthy intro, but that's the background. i guess my specific questions are:
    1) i want to be able to maintain multiple sites from iWeb 2.0...can i open my 1.1.2 domain file in 2.0 and successfully bring that site into 2.0?
    2) what is the most efficient and easiest way to get both of these sites running in 2.0? right now i have two domain files (created on two different computers).
    3) for domain management, is it best to move from the iWeb folder in my home library to different folders (one for each site, with separate domain files, and my 2.0 domain file is NOT called domain, it's the name of the site) to another location? (and of course, i will back these up just in case.) and when i want to update a site, i just open that individual domain file, right? or will these sites publish over each other?
please help. i am at my wits end. i'm sure this is a relatviely simple issue, but i'm new to iWeb.
thanks, thanks, thanks for your help guys.

    joojy,
    Welcome to the forums!
First of all, your original 1.1.2 site may not, in fact, have been overwritten. It is quite possible that the site remains in it's position on the iDisk, Web/Sites/iWeb/YourSite, but because you published to the iDisk (.Mac) from 2.0, a different index.html file has been placed in the root level Web directory which is causing the 404 error. Navigate to the directory on the iDisk, using the Go menu in Finder, and look to see what is actually there. Follow this path:
    Go/iDisk/My iDisk/Web/Sites/iWeb/YourSiteWillBeHereIfYourLuckIsGood
If your site is there, great; if it isn't, it's not really a problem because hopefully you still have the Domain.sites file on the MacBook Pro and you can republish it if necessary. If it is there, you can modify the index.html file on the iDisk using a text editor and get your url redirected back to where it should be.
Second, do not open your 1.1.2 Domain.sites file with 2.0 until you have a backup of this Domain file. External drives are best for this. Assuming the backup is in place, launch 2.0, choose the Domain.sites file, and click on "update". It will be updated to a Domain.sites2 file. If the site looks ok then continue on with editing/publishing.
Skipping to question (3), by all means, abandon the default location of the Domain.sites file in the Home folder's Library and get accustomed to keeping your Domain files in their own, respective folders. When you want to open one just double-click it.
You are going to encounter difficulties publishing multiple sites in 2.0.2, unless you keep all of the sites in a single Domain file. 2.0 is publishing to a different directory on the iDisk than 1.0; it publishes to /Web/Sites/, as opposed to /Web/Sites/iWeb/. Publishing a site from a separate Domain file erases previously published sites. I have been able to publish multiple sites, from multiple Domain.sites2 files, by mounting the iDisk and actually moving the Site folder back one level, into the root Web folder, and then publishing. When finished, I move it back again. If you have RSS feeds you will probably get a 'file in use' error. The alternative, (other than keeping all sites in a single Domain), is to publish the site to a folder and then manually drop the Site folder into the Web/Sites/ directory on the iDisk. Of course, some .Mac functions are lost when publishing this way.
Work through this info and post back.

  • Iweb Widget Google Maps doesn't work anymore

Hello, I wanted to update my website and I experienced that teh Widget of Google Maps is not working anymore. You can drag it on the page and then enter an adress. If you choose "apply" it is not working. How can I solve this problem?

This probably means that you are using iWeb 08 or iWeb 2 and you are correct that this will not run on the latest software, however iWeb 09 or 3 will, so if you want it to work, you will have to purchase iWeb 09, contained in either iLife 11 or iLife 09 via Amazon.
No, of course you won't find iWeb for sale in the App store because as this thread has been telling you, both it and MobileMe have not existed for at least that last 2 years and Apple withdrew support for iWeb sometime ago along with MobileMe, which has now become iCloud.
If you want iWeb 09, you will have to purchase it from Amazon - this is the only way that you can get it, but now might be a good time to move on and use some software that is both sold and supported such as EverWeb.  Take a look at it.  It is designed to be like iWeb but you can do a lot more.

  • Can iWeb be hosted by another site other than .Mac?

I have already purchased a domain name and a hosting agreement with GoDaddy, however I cannot utilize their web page templates for some reason. Another mac user suggested I purchase iWeb and then have GoDaddy host. Can that be easily accomplished?

Yes, it can be easily accomplished. Here's iWeb's Help info on this topic...
Publishing to a server or hosting service other than .Mac:
Instead of publishing your site to .Mac, you can publish your site to a local folder and then upload it to the server or hosting provider of your choice. You may want to use this method if you own a domain name and want to place your site there.
To publish your site to a local destination:
Choose File > Publish to a Folder.
Choose a location to store your site, and then click Choose.
After you publish your site to a folder, you can use an FTP (file transfer protocol) client to upload the site folder and index file to the location of your choice. iWeb does not provide an FTP client, but they are easy to obtain. Some hosting services provide a web-based FTP upload service, or you can download an FTP client from the web. For more information, contact your server administrator.
If you don't publish your site to .Mac, these features are unavailable:
    Password protection
    Blog comments
    Blog search
    Hit counter
    Enhanced slideshows
Also, for Subscribe buttons to work, you must specify your site's URL in the field provided after you publish to a folder.

  • IWeb 08 AND iWeb 09???

I have a number of sites built on iWeb 08 on my main computer. I like iWeb 09 which is on my macBook. If I purchase iWeb 09 for my main computer, can I run BOTH iWeb 08 and iWeb 09 or will the latter update and overwrite the files I have already created?

08 wil become 09. Unless you save a copy first.
iWeb 08 will not open iWeb 09 files.

  • Iweb and godaddy hosting

So I just purchased iweb and plan to create a website for when i travel to South Africa. Problem is I declined to sign up for .mac because I really only need it for 4 months and don't want to pay $99.
Godaddy.com seems to have some better prices but is there anyone here who can walk me through what I'd need to do to post my iweb creations to such a service? I need an ftp program right? Which should I use and how do I use it? Any help is appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Will

here here... I second that. I have had godaddy a long time, even while I had .mac. I got iWeb last night, and whipped up a couple images from MY trip to South Africa over the last two weeks!! interesting coincidence. take a look at what I did.
    www.jrog.com
I used the blog system to link in multiple photo albums, as I don't see myself creating much in the way of blogs in the conventional sense, but it is handy to be able to create a new image gallery.
Godaddy gave me free hosting, but I ended up paying for the basic service, some $36 a year for 5GB of storage and 250G of monthly data transfer. Pretty insane if you ask me.
I told the salesman at the apple store last night that I would go back to .Mac the moment they allow for personal domain name compatability. Even Google's gmail allows you to setup an alternate domain name, and send emails as that domain user.

  • Product updates for iweb 06, and a quick question

I have recently purchased iweb 08 and found that my customers cannot access the website properly and are having issues with IE and freezing - never had this problem with o6 so I'm going back to it.
I've re-installed my Iweb06 from the original disks, just wondered how I can get the latest version of 06, as each time I click check for updates it asks me if I want to upgrade to Iweb08
the other question is this, I know I was able to click duplicate site or page, on Iweb 06 but cannot seem to do this with the version 1.0.0 is this is a later update
I get the same with iphoto, which I've also got back to, as again having issues with accessign photos uploaded

you can also use Lostify to do more advanced tag editing... like add MPAA ratings, etc... just be aware that it takes a long time to process a video file. first time i used it, i thought the app was crashing, turns out it actually has to read and write the whole file over again.

  • I just deleted my iWeb cuz it won't open

How do I download again? I'm talking about the free version that comes with the computer, not the one that you have to purchase (iWeb '09).

If it came with the computer it will be on the disks that came with the computer:
Look for the "Install bundled software" installer and use it.
Before you delete the application again try deleting the iWeb preference file, com.apple.iWeb.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder first. Most of the time it's something other than the application that causes the problem.

  • I Need To change My Version iWEB, Right?

OK..Please don’t jump all over me for this. I have barely used my MAC for anything except the Internet and Photoshop. I created a web site using YAHOO and it *****! I mean my design is OK but YAHOO‘s software is filled with glitches and inconsistencies. It’s very unreliable. So, moron that I am, I just realized I can create a web site on my freakin’ MAC! DUH! My question (finally) is this, I apparently have iWEB 1.1.2 on my MAC OSX 10.4.11 I’m assuming because this is an ancient version it would be a mistake to go ahead and design my site using this outdated software. What is the easiest way to update my iWEB and where do I go to do it? I mean I can’t just update right away to whatever the latest version is, right? Do I need to upgrade instead? Where can I purchase iWEB...I don’t think I need an entire iLIFE package! Do I need to upgrade my OS? I sure hope not! Just asking. Sorry if this is stupid. Thank you for any help or advice. Oh...and I see this is an iWEB '09 forum so I guess the moderators can move it if it needs to be in another place. Sorry!

Are you sure you can handle life? This forum is truly for the disturbed.
    Answering your plea for help:
At the top of this page you see buttons.
    One says [Mac|http://www.apple.com/mac>
On the page you see a row of icons with a word beneath.
    One says Applications.
Then you see a pic of the iLife box: [Click|http://www.apple.com/ilife>
    Read all you can.
I guess the moderators can move it
My guess is that the moderators will remove my post.

  • Before I buy iWeb '09...

Ideally, I want to use my iWeb '08 to redesign an old website I have. I don't know how to use FTP software and don't have the time to learn so my recent experiment resulted in a grotesque distortion of what was on my Mac. I am as green as grass with making websites but I can use iWeb.
iWeb '08 doesn't have a handy "FTP publish button" but '09 does!!! Sounds great but I am wary.
My question is will my site look great like it does on my Mac if I publish it to the world with iWeb '09's fab FTP button? Will it become all funky and screwed up like my earlier experiment?
A second question is when is iWeb '10 coming out? The day after I but '09, right?

Nobody knows when or if iWeb 10 will be released. Your guess is as good as anyone elses.
As for the built in ftp that comes with iWeb 09 - it is not all that it is cracked up to be and lots of people who have purchased iWeb 09, including myself, still prefer to publish to a folder and upload using Cyberduck or Transmit.
As far as using a dedicated ftp program such as Cyberduck or Transmit, I don't quite see what the problem is? They are so simple to use and Cyberduck has instructions that come with it - it is a simple as publishing your site to your desktop from within iWeb and then using Cyberduck to firstly connect to your server/host and then click on Action and upload the files to your public_html folder or wherever your upload to on your server? It can either be this or 'htdocs' or 'www'.
Bingo, if you have then uploaded all the files and folders - make sure that you upload your Site folder and separate index file and ensure that your index file is pointing in to your site folder and your site can then be seen.
    Simple as.

  • How do I find the serial numbers for the software on my computer... iWeb for example.

I have had my MBP for a couple of years.  I decided to try iWeb but it wants me to register the SW.  I have no clue what the marketing part number is or the serial number.  Does anyone know where I can find this info?  If I am not mistaken the SW came preinstalled on my computer.
    Thanks

Most programs will not store the serial numbers in a way that you can locate them. When you purchased iWeb you should have been given a serial number to use in the box, or via e-mail. iWeb does not come preinstalled on systems anymore and has been discontinued. At one point Apple did release a commercial version of the software that required a serial number, so this may be what you have.

  • First Time iWeber

I'm thinking about switching to using iWeb for my website design. I am alrleady a mac user but I don't know anything about iWeb (still running iLife '05 here) and I don't know much about .mac. My question is, if I purchase iWeb, design the site, and publish using .mac, can anyone in the world access my page and look at it? For instance windows users, firefox users. Basically, if you don't have .mac or macintosh period, can you access the site? I'm sorry if this seems like an obvous question but like I said before I don't know anything about it. Thanks a lot.

First time user here as well. I have my own .com and I'm trying to FTP using Fetch. I got it uploaded, but I'm having the problem with question marks showing up at certain places like returns. Can you tell what I'm doing wrong? Another interesting thing is that I could see my site when I use Safari at home on my Mac, but here at work on a PC using Explorer, I just get a blank page.
Also, I signed up with .mac so I could try uploading it through there. It's telling me I don't have enough space available. I have nothing else on it and my webpages are very basic with 3 or 4 pictures... no video or music. Any ideas?
    Thanks for your help.
