Purchase Mountain Lion for network installation

Hi I've been having freezing/lockup issues with my iMac (mid 2007).  It is currently running Lion 10.7.5
I had it into the Genius bar, they checked the hardware and said it was good, the issue was coming from 'one of my files' on my backup.  (I had restored from a Time Machine backup).
So, I am trying to run a network install to do a 'clean' install of Mountain Lion, but it says I haven't purchased it yet and won't let me proceed with the install.   Seems like a simple question, but how do I purchase Mountain Lion so I can do a network install without being on my iMac?
If I can do a network install, then I can troubleshoot the backup files and have a known fresh starting point if I need to reimage.
Any thoughts or pointers appreciated.

I will try that again, and post the results. Suffice it to say I have done quite a bit of troubleshooting and tried various things.  At this point I would just like to be able to get back to a clean image and then troubleshoot which files on my backup may be contributing to the issue.   If anyone else has ideas on how to purchase ML without using my iMAC please let me know - I can get it to run for about 5 minutes (when I restore from a TM backup) but then it just freezes or generates Kernel errors.   Genius bar told me all the hardware checked out.

  • Purchasing Mountain lion for a recovery??

    Hey guys.
I recently purchased a Macbook Pro 13" with 8GB ram.
i wanted to reinstall the machine, but it all wen't wrong, since i don't have an apple ID with a purchased version of Mountain Lion.
I have been reading through the internet without finding any answers other than i need to purchase mountain Lion with my apple id, and i honestly just want to purchase it ASAP.
To purchase it, i understand i need to use another mac, in that case i just borrow my dads macbook air, and i tried entering Appstore, but there's no sign of any place to purchase mountain lion.
i also understand that this might have something to do with the drive.
Please do give me some advice, since i have no idea of my next move.
Ps. the seller i bought the machine from, have dissappeared......

  • Do you need to purchase mountain lion for two computers

i'm upgrading to mountain lion on my iMac and my Macbook pro. Do I need to purchase it twice?

No. As long as Snow Leopard  10.6.8 is installed you can redownload for free. Or you can save the installer application to your Downloads folder BEFORE you install it the first time. You can then copy it to the other computer using a flash drive or other external drive. Then run the installer on the other computer. You can also do this:
    Make Your Own Mountain/Lion Installer
    1. After downloading Mountain/Lion you must first save the Install Mac OS X Mountain/
Lion application. After Mountain/Lion downloads DO NOT click on the Install button.
Go to your Applications folder and make a copy of the Mountain/Lion installer. Move
the copy into your Downloads folder. Now you can click on the Install button. You
must do this because the installer deletes itself automatically when it finishes
        installing.
    2. Get a USB flash drive that is at least 8 GBs. Prep this flash drive as follows:
      a. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
      b. After DU loads select your flash drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left
side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
      c. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one.
Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the
partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until
          the process has completed.
      d. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side
list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
      e. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the
button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
      f. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to an hour depending upon the flash
         drive size.
    3. Locate the saved Mountain/Lion installer in your Downloads folder. CTRL- or RIGHT-click on the installer and select Show Package Contents from the contextual menu. Double-click on the Contents folder to open it. Double-click on the SharedSupport folder. In this folder you will see a disc image named InstallESD.dmg.
    4. Plug in your freshly prepared USB flash drive. You are going to clone the content of the InstallESD.dmg disc image to the flash drive as follows:
      a. Double-click on the InstallESD.dmg file to mount it on your Desktop.
      b. Open Disk Utility.
      c. Select the USB flash drive from the left side list.
      d. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
      e. Select the USB flash drive volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
      f. Drag the mounted disc icon from the Desktop into the Source entry field.
      g. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
When the clone is completed you have a fully bootable installer that you can use without having to re-download Mountain/Lion.
Note: The term Mountain/Lion used above means Lion or Mountain Lion.
As an alternative to the above (you still have to do your own download of Lion/Mountain Lion) you can try using Lion DiskMaker 2.0 that automates the process of Steps 2 through 4.

  • Can I redeem the $20 after purchasing Mountain Lion for my new Macbook Pro

Hey there, I purchased a Macbook Pro in late June 2012, reading the redeem page for Mountain Lion 2 weeks ago it stated to come back after making a purchase of Mountain Lion, so I purchased the update and now realised i could of downloaded it for free, is it possible to get a rebate from Apple, or did I just waste $20????

Apple most likely won't give 20 dollars of store credit....you can always call them but I doubt they will let you redeem...in the end they want your money..

Hay thank you for your time . I do that every time I know I am online. It says that I am up to date . I have found that I have 10.4.11 version, and that my boot version is 10.6.2, and that my kernel version is 8.11.1.
I have a hard drive icon on my desktop that says 10.6.2....
I use to have iphoto, it doesnt open anymore, it says there is 1.2gigs on that disk. There are many things on here that are the same way. Where do I start?
It's always good to go with one thing at a time and stay focused on that. Let's start with the OS you're running. Click on the Apple menu > About This Mac. What does it say under Mac OS X version ?

  • Paid for lion recently can i download mountain lion for free?

Hi :) recently paid and downloaded mac os lion ( 16 june 2012 ) i just need to know is there a way to get mac os mountain lion for free because of my recent mac os lion download.

Unless you bought Lion with an explicit offer from Apple telling you that you can get ML for free, you will not be able to download and install ML for free.
You will have to purchase Mountain Lion for 20 dollars (US price) in the Mac App Store.

  • Purchased Mountain Lion, but can't install on Mavericks OS...Paid for but Can't install

Purchased Mountain Lion, but can't install on Mavericks OS...Paid for but Can't install

You can't install an older OS over a newer one. So you'll get a message saying you can't install ML until you erase the drive.
I'm presuming you already have the full Mountain Lion installer on your drive.
Download DiskMaker X. Use it, the ML installer, and an 8 GB flash drive to create your own bootable ML installer. Boot to the flash drive when it's ready. From there, you'll get the same minimal work screen as when you boot into Recovery Mode. Use Disk Utility to erase the drive, then install Mountain Lion. Restore your personal data.

  • Purchased Mountain Lion, but it is stuck on download with no activity for about half an hour.  What next?

Purchased Mountain Lion via App store but it appears to be stuck in download with no activity for over half an hour and no error messages. The download bar shows the download at about 1/20th for about half an hour as well.  I had what appeared to be disk corruption.  I used OS CD to repair - indicated successful. When I rebooted again the system showed the spinning icon again.  I read that I should not install Mountain Lion if my disk still has errors.  I'm not sure what my next steps should be?

Sign out of the Mac App Store.
    Sign back in.
    Restart the Download.
Sounds like you repaired whatever disk issues there was, you should be fine. Its now a matter of obtaining the install.

  • HT1338 if I purchased the OS X Mountain Lion for my 27" IMac do I have to purchase another one for my MacBook Pro

I purchased both 27" iMac and MacBook Pro on March 2012 wth Lion OS installed.  I just upgraded to the OS X Mountain Lion for my iMac and was wondering whether I have to pay again for the upgrade for my MBP?

no you do not need to purchase it again.  You can install it on multiple macs you own.  Sign in to the app store with the apple id used to purchase ML on the mac(s) you wish to install it on.  Hold down the option key and click on the purchases tab and click "download" next to ML.

  • How do I redownload mountain lion for a clean install on the same machine without purchasing again?

I purchased mountain lion and upgraded my OS.  The system seems to still be having some issues and I'd like to do a clean install with the new OS.  How do I redownload mountain lion so that I can make a bootable disk and do my clean install?

You should be able to just go to the App Store and select Download again. If that doesn't work, try holding down the option key while selecting "Buy".
    Good luck,

  • At a Genius Bar appointment yesterday, we determined that I needed to go to Mountain Lion from Lion.  I purchased Mountain Lion at the Bar, and paused the install so that I could resume from home.  Now I can't find it to resume. Not in Downloads. ?????

When I upgraded to Lion, my Parallels stopped working and I got a Bootcamp error message.  It had worked fine for the prior year.  I upgraded to Parallels 7.  No luck. At the Genius Bar, the Genius uninstalled Bootcamp.  No luck.  I still get "The Boot Camp partition /dev/diskOs4 used by Hard Drive 1 is missing."
Another Genius suggested upgrading to Mountain Lion.  While at the Bar, I purchased Mountain Lion and then we paused the install so that I could resume it at home.  Once I got home, I can't find the Mountain Lion installer to resume.  It's not in the Downloads file.  Any clue?
My business programs all run on Windows, so I have to get it operating.  The Genius Bar isn't much help.  Does anyone know how to get Mountain Lion installed?  How to get Parallels working?

The "Geniuses" (and I use that word in sarcasm) at the Bar are lying to you. Upgrading from Lion to Mt Lion will not fix whatever problems you are having. In fact it will most likely make them worse.
If you want to try installing Mt Lion to fix the problems you are having you will need to open the Mac App Store link in your Dock, Login to your Apple ID account for the MAS and go to your Purchases area. Mt Lion should be in there and you will be able to do a proper download. Once you either set your Mac into sleep or shut down and then left the internet connection at the Bar all record of that download was lost. So you will need to restart it again from the beginning, like described above.
    Good Luck
