Purchase version 4 or use 5 beta?

I was about to download version 4 and trial it for a month before purchasing. Then I read that I can use 5 beta until the end of June, so I have downloaded that. There is a lot of talk (mainly by Adobe) about not relying on it, and not all the features being available, and it's putting me off trusting it with my main workflow. So I am not sure what to do. I don't want to pay good money for version 4, when version 5 is just around the corner.
Can Adobe give any official word on this please, as I'm not the only one unsure what to do. If I am to trial version 4 then pay for it in 30 days time, will I get a free upgrade to version 5 when it's released? I Adobe says I will, then I'll forget about 5 beta for now. If not, will I "probably" be ok to use 5 beta for my main photographic work?

I'd dive straight in to Lr5(@b) if you are starting anew, despite Adobe's or anybody else's recomendation (Adobe and it's loyal band of self-appointed supportists can only recommend that you start with Lr4, so no point in asking).
Yes, there may be bugs in it, and yes, there may be some changes, but still: that's what I would do - no question about it, no hesitation...
Even if worse came to worse (it almost certainly won't), and Lr5 won't update an Lr5b catalog (to quote Victoria Bampton (the Lightroom Queen) - "it's not an iron clad guarantee"), you'd have to start a new catalog and import all edits via xmp. Not ideal, but *VERY* unlikely to happen too (e.g. it never has yet). I suppose the other worst case scenario is that it screws up your photos or something, which Adobe reserves the right to do since it's called a "beta", and you've been warned... but again: *HIGHLY* unlikely.
I used a set of plugins to transfer all of my photos/stacks, virtual copies, and collections from Lr4 to Lr5(b) and I doubt I will ever use Lr4 again.
As I said, even if worse comes to worse (and it probably won't), I can fall back...
Want to play it as safely as possible? (and don't have the technical ability to assure your own safety) - use Lr4 until Lr5 finished. Some people even let the first few dot revs go by before making the leap...
Want to start using the latest and greatest instead? (and willing to take some (relatively minor, IMO) risk) - start w/ Lr5b and never look back...
Note: it's highly likely that Victoria Bampton and the Jeff/Geoffs etc. will reply to this with STERN warnings about how foolish my advice would be (and downright wreckless, maybe even resort to some other name calling and scare tactics, etc...) - I wouldn't let that sway me if I were you, but then: I'm not you...

How can I downgrade to the previous version I was using? It was better, more user-friendly, than my current one.

Around two months ago I upgraded my Firefox. I don't remember to what version (and to my surprise, when I clicked on Firefox today, it automatically upgraded to version 5, which seems to me to have the same problem), but it doesn't have an icon to stop a page from opening and when I want to go back to a previous page, there is no tab (might not have the right word) to click that will show a drop-down list of the pages I went to before, so I have to click back, back, back, until I find what I want. Previously, the back, forward, refresh, and stop icons were together on the left side. There's still a reload button (now on the right), but why no "stop"? That's very important. Plus the drop-down list of web pages visited.
I also found right after I upgraded that my Yahoo mail was affected. Let's say I open an email, then click on back to return to my inbox. Instead of going one page back to the list of emails I received, it goes back to the first web page after logging in, the page where Yahoo says I have this many messages and there are updates on my friends. So I have to click on inbox again to see my list of messages. Or, still in the inbox, say I want to revisit old messages which are three pages away from the first page listing my messages, so I click "next" twice to get to them and then open one, and then click "back"---what happens is, I find myself back to the very first page instead of the third one! So I have to click "next" again!
You can imagine how inconvenient it is. All of this started in the very same session when I upgraded my Firefox to the version Mozilla was promoting then. So I'd like to have my old version back, which I had no problems with. Thanks for your help.

I thought you are supposed to be able to run the 2 as different programs with different settings, but this is not the case for me right now.

I don't think my old mac will support the newer version of iPhoto so I feel like I'm stuck (this is why I got a new mac -- cheaper than upgrading all my software, etc). Help! You have two options:
Run the Library on a machine that has the same version as the machine that was stolen.
or
Recover the files from this library and start over from scratch.
To recover the files:
Go to your Pictures Folder (or whereever you have the back up) and find the iPhoto Library there. Right (or Control-) Click on the icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. A finder window will open with the Library exposed.
Your originals are in the Masters folder.
Note this will only recover your photos as imported from you camera.

To Mickey: I got the 2 RAR files into one directory, extracted the part1.rar file, and in that new folder there is a file called start.html. I opened this, and followed the links on the right, from "Welcome" to "Getting Started". After all this I had the SAP Management Console, as well as the Database Manager applications created. You will find the specific instructions for setting up the MaxDB under the "Getting Started" link. After setting up the Database Manager you have to start it up with a user-id and password which was created during the set-up, and specifically link the database to the NSP system. I seem to remember that this didn't work at first, because the Database Manager shortcut does not run the program as an administrator. So run it as an administrator! I altered the shortcut's properties under the shortcut/advanced so it will always run the program as an administrator, and haven't had any problems - once you have done the "Add" procedure you may never need to re-visit the database manager.

Try to find out: When you install the Creative Cloud Desktop app, Click Assets, then click Fonts. Click Add Fonts from Typekit. If you can do that, you're in. Of course, you won't be able to use them more than 30 days unless you subscribe. (But fonts embedded in a PDF or EPUB file would be fine.)
Those of us who are CC subscribers cannot test this out easily.

What version of Google chrome is better to use on iMac running Lion

Seem to be having a lot of trouble using Google Chrome on my iMac running OSX Lion 10.7.3. Each time I use it, I get the message that my profile couldn't be opened. Then when I try to quit Chrome it causes my computer to freeze and I end up having to force quit. Often times when I then restart my Mac Chrome just starts automatically. Should I be using Chrome Beta instead of the standard Chrome? Are there any other suggestions out there that might help mesolve this problem? I don't remember ever creating a Google profile so don't undeerstand why I keep getting that message. I can't seem to figure out where that profile would be in Chrome so that I could sign out of it. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

No, you have to upgrade to Snow Leopard first before upgrading any higher. Note that your system does support a higher upgrade, but Snow Leopard is required first.

I assume that you will have to set up as new since it will not let you restore from the backup. Then after you set it up, you can restore from the iCloud backup. The backup should not disappear be use you are setting this device up as new. Your backup should still be in iCloud.
However, after you activate the iPd and update the software, you will have to erase the device in order to restore from the Cloud backup, that is the only way to get to the iCloud backup.

I did not leave anything out from the error message. It doesn't point to a specific file, it just ends with "(x86)..." Every time I boot up my computer, this error message pops up on my desktop.
How do I repair this issue? I have found multiple suggested solutions but am unsure which one is the best, and I don't want to try a bunch of different things for fear I may make the problem worse. I would like to try and fix this myself if possible but I need to know if that is really possible or if I need to take my computer to someone for repairs. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!!

Btw, a simpler way to do this is to revert to older iTunes app, then hold Option when it launches and choose an older library.

I recently had to rebuild a computer and I can't figure out how to download my previously purchased version of Adobe Acrobat X Pro Student and Teacher Edition from the Adobe web site.
