Purchased 3 weeks = 1 new "dead spot" on LCD of my macbook???

Suddenly found a new "dead spot" (a spot on my macbook LCD screen that always showing black in colour)... just purchased this new macbook for 3 weeks...
Any other users having the same problem? Anybody knows what's the minimum of "dead spots" that Apple would replace it with a new one?
I use my macbook with less than 2 hours/day... just Safari and MSN... plus some small mpg movies... what's wrong with the LCD?

Try lightly rubbing the stuck pixel to see if it will turn on. I know it sounds strange but it worked for me and that pixel has never been a problem since. Apple allows a "certain number" of pixel anomalies.....see this article:

how do I connect my new (purchased last week) macbook air to my samsung smart tv? I purchased the adapter at the apple store and connected to the TV via HDMI cable.  The TV says "no signal.  I do not see TV as an option in the display tab of system preferences.  what else do I need to do?

First, make sure your TV is tuned to display the correct input signal. Most TVs have several inputs (multiple HDMIs, cable connections, RCA etc) so double-check that you're using the correct one - HDMI1, HDMI2 or whatever is written next to the port.
I assume that you have a mini-Displayport to HDMI adaptor? If you open displays preferences, first tick the box that says "show display preferences in menu bar" then locate the menu and click Detect Displays. See if that helps.

  • My iPhone 3GS has dead spots on the left side of the screen, does anyone know how this problem has started or how I can fix this?

Over the past couple of months, my iPhone 3GS has had dead spots on the left side of the screen, preventing me from using the r, d and x keys, the number 4 and the semi colon and comma keys. Does anybody have any ideas on why this has happened or any ideas that I'll be able to fix this problem?
Just a note; I can't put my phone to sleep or turn off as my lock button isn't working, so I'm using the AssistiveTouch settings.
    Thanks.

This has no impact on the ability to purchase a new iPhone... it simply means that the newer one will not be at a fully subsidized price.
You could always take it to Apple and do an Out of Warranty exchange (I'm assuming the device is out of warranty) for $149 US.

  • IPhone Dead Spot?

    Hi there,
I was just working away on the web, everything completely normal and all of the sudden I had a 1 and a 1/4 inch section just refuse to register my touch. So I rebooted it, restored and all around tried to get the thing to work. I've seen posts of similar things but I wanted some input as to what to do. I work in a secure location outside of the US so I can't go to an Apple Store. Any ideas, input?

    Hi Arthur,
I own and use a iPhone (Serial Nummer Week 28) about 6 months right now. Since three weeks a dead "row" startet to evolve and disappeared partially just right in the middle of the screen(seen from holding your phone upright).
The "dead row" on my touch screen now does not disappear anymore and widend a little bit and I barely cannot touch the "Send"-Button when finishing SMS and cannot use the "settings" button anymore.
Luckily I am on 1.1.3 now, where I can move and push the icons around and put useless Icons in the dead spot, but unfortunatly my iphone is dying from the touchscreen view and it is a pain to use when scrolling through my recent callers list, because it stops at the dead spot and triggers a call.
The reason why this is, is - I believe - I put my iphone most of the time in my backpocket and then sit in my car or on the floor in my house just on the screen. Then I realize - uups there is my iphone, have to put it out of the pocket, I guess it is too late and maybe I have sitten my touchscreen "through right in the middle".
In the meantime I bought a new one, and try to put it in my front pocket...
    best

  • Dead Spot on iPhone

Has anyone on the forum experienced an issue with "dead spots" on your iPhone? I have approximately a 1/2 inch vertical strip near the bottom of my touchscreen that is unresponsive to touch.
Also, my power adapter wouldn't charge my phone and sent it back to Apple a couple of weeks ago however, the new adapter has not arrived.
Am I just unlucky or are these issues being experienced by other users of the iPhone?
    Thanks,
    kzib

I took it into the Apple store for repair. Here are the questions they will ask you:
    1. Is the "liquid immersion" marker activated (e.g. user dropped in liquid)
    2. What is the approx percentage of partial area multi-touch failures vs full are multi-touch failures?
    3. Did the user ever note if the unit had condensation on the surface out of box?
    4. Did the user ever note if the unit had condensation on the surface during normal use?
    5. Physical defect or - did you also see out of box? (sic)
    6. What was the time to failure? (how long it took to fail)?
    7. Is the failure always reproducible or intermittent?
Looks like the Apple techs think its condensation related. I did not notice any condensation - I do travel a lot so the change in environment might affect it: pressure and/or humidity.

  • Dead spots and WONT TURN ON now after a restart

Why doesn't my iphone work? i restarted it and now it is frozen on the screen and the bar is fully complete for the restart but it donts finish? And i have multiple dead spots! like ***. I hate this, new probolems every week.

Dead spots are generally a carrier issue, however the phone not starting could be any number of issues. Since you have already tried the reset and it is not working, the next step in user troubleshooting is to connect to the computer and do a restore. First restore is from a backup, and if that does not work, then restore as new. If that does not fix the problem, then make an appointment at the Genius Bar to have the hardware examined.

  • How do i fix a dead spot at the bottom of an ipod touch?

I have a dead spot at the bottom of my screen. I can swipe, put my password in, and slide through the home pages. However, I am unable to select either of the original four menu options (Messages, Safari, Settings, or Music). I dont know what to do, it was literally just working until i recorded a video and it gave me a hard time stopping the recording. Ever since then (about 30 minutes ago) The bottom of my screen has been disfunctional.
    Please help.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings (if you can)
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:

  • Idvd final project has dead spots in sound

I recently created a slideshow in idvd where I imported photos and music. The music was downloaded from itunes. When the project was complete and burned to a Memorex write/re-write DVD, there were dead spots in the sound when I played it back on my TV/DVD player. The songs would just cut out for 3-5 seconds, then keep playing. Does anyone have any advice? Could there be an issue with the DVD I chose to use? Could fingerprints on the DVD account for this problem? Should I be looking at the idvd program as the problem?

    Hello, rkotlow,
    Welcome to the discussions.
First, Memorex disks are notorious for poor performance. You should be using good DVD-R disks such as Verbatim or Maxell. You should also burn at a slower speed, not faster than 4x.
Make a disk image first, using Disk Utility, that way you can check it to see if there are any audio problems:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iDVD/7.0/en/6733.html
You can then burn your disks from within Disk Utility, selecting the burn speed:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93006
Lastly, many of the audio drop-outs are problems with TV/DVD players, especially with newer ones. I have had problems with a Toshiba, but not with a Sony. You could try your disk in another player, and if it works, then you know your iDVD works fine. I would still burn to a better brand of DVD, though.

  • Digitizer/Dead spots

i have an iphone it works great in some places but i have a couple of dead spots. the phone, email, safari, and ipod icons dont work at all. since i have these dead spots on the bottom row of the phone and also in the middle of the phone. Hi,
Try the general tips in this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1650#faq5
You can also try restoring the iPhone to rule out software issues. This article: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305744 will walk you through restoring the iPhone.
If the issue persists the iPhone will need hardware repair. You can get the iPhone repaired or replaced by making a reservation to have a Genius at a local Apple retail store take a look at it or calling AppleCare.

  • I have a Dead Spot in the Tone Curve

I have noticed when using a tablet while working in LR5 I have a dead spot in the upper part of the curve near the highlights portion. I thought it was just a result of my tablet being old and a cheaper model. I tested it with a new Intuos 5 Touch and had the same problem. I go to drag down or up on the upper part of the curve and it doesn't move or hangs up. It happens in all RGB channels also. Has anyone else had this problem or know why this happens? Thanks!

  • Dead spots and pops.

    Hello everyone
Well I'v been using Logic Pro 7.2 for a couple months and loving it. I don't have a high-end studio just my G4 Powermac 2x 1.6, 1.5 gig of ram. but Im starting to notice when play some EXS24 sampler or my plug-in's Im getting pop's or cut out in sound while playing. Now I was told that my internal sound card build in my G4 should be ok(digital Audio). But is this being caused by not having a better sound card. Since Im learning and don't need high end system, could this be stopped by getting a AudioPhile 192 sound card. For the price it seem pretty good, or maybe not I could be wrong. All i have is my midi keyboard and padkontrol and I just want to be able to play all sample with out hearing dead spot while playing or click and sometime pops. It seems like when i get to 8 voices ,but most of the time it never goes past 11 voices, that when I start to hear it. But not all the time. OK well I would love anyone feed back,
    thank you for your time.

    Hi Carl,
On my tower ( similar to yours ) I could do about 500 voices ( quick test ) using internal audio system 256 and 48000 - this system is well optimized for audio and Software development... but you should not get 2% the polyphony I do. In fact, that setting performed better using internal ( vs, internal ) for the test... whatever. The real problem lies somewhere in the setup, settings...
How many drives are you using?
What does Activity Monitor tell you is happening? - anything suspicious?
If you may say your lso originated from a session that could be old, run setup asst and create a new one - usually, performance will be better with a fresh template. I have recieved windows sessions and worked with corrupt sessions that behaved this well...
any 3rd party AUs at the time this happens?
Are you reading your samples of the System Volume or a volume on the same drive?
Tried this with Virtual memory ( for EXS24 ) on? off? - if on, configure it to allocate the most memory.
    Any other audio apps?
How do you fare in GB? ( GB's sampler is essentially an EXS24 engine in a box with a white label and plain black letters - just a generic UI over the sampler engine )

  • Trackpad dead spots after using MoshiPalm Guard

Recently I am getting dead spots on the trackpad of my MacBook Pro 13in.
The spot is somewhere to the left of the center. When I circle my finger tip around that area, the cursor does not move.
What is even more puzzling is that if I first place my finger in the problem region, then drag it along the trackpad to another region on the trackpad, the problem temporarily escalates to that region as well. (So dragging your finger all over the trackpad starting from the problem region does not move the cursor a bit).
There seem to be occasions when the dead spot is not completely dead but just highly insensitive.
    I don't think it's a software problem.
Perhaps the Moshi Palm Guard/Trackpad skin is causing some conductivity issues?
I should say that the problems only appeared several weeks after I placed the Moshi Trackpad skin to protect the aluminum shell.
    Is anyone experiencing similar problems?
    Please help!

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
I would for sure say that the problem is the skin on the trackpad. In my opinion, you don't really need a skin for the glass trackpads. They don't wear like the older ones do and leave a big shiny area. Try using your trackpad without the skin for a day or so and see if it works normally.
