Purchased a Bluray burner ... now how to burn blurays?

I purchased a Buffalo BR3D-12U3 MediaStation bluray burner last week to use as a backup system (burn files to bluray). After reading the Amazon.com description where it states "Simply plug it in to your PC or Mac® and save or back up..." in several locations, I didn't even think there would be an issue using it with my iMac. That is until I got it (delivered) and read on the box that it's compatible with Windows and not Mac. What? Although this isn't my question, I must say that this is misleading advertising. Either it works on PC and Mac or it doesn't. Anyway. Now I need a solution...
I don't intend on creating actual bluray movies with this burner. All I need it for is to burn backups of files onto the bluray disks with the potential (of course) of retrieving those files in the future if needed. In other words, I'm using the bluray disks as an alternative secondary backup system in case my external drive fails. Q: Can someone recommend software that will allow me to use this burner for this purpose on my iMac?

Thanks. That did it! Successfully burned a bluray data disk despite even the manufacturer claiming that the burner is no Mac compatible!.

    Hi johnhnk2,
Please see Getting Started with ExportPDF | Adobe Community.
That document will tell you what you need to know to get started. Please note, however, that it can take 24-48 hours for an order to process fully.

  • Tried to burn backup of iTunes library--crashed mid burn, now won't burn

Last night I was burning a backup of my iTunes Library to DVDs. It was supposed to burn only what's new or changed since my last backup (over a year ago). iTunes estimated that it was going to take 27 DVDs.
I got through the first 10 DVDs and then went to bed. When I woke up this morning, my iMac had powered off. I turned it back on and went to start the backup again. iTunes processed what needed to be backed up, gave the warning that it can't backup a couple of podcasts, and told me it'll take 17 DVDs--the same info as before. But then I get this error message:
"The attempt to burn a disc failed. The device failed to respond properly, unable to recover or retry. If you want to retry the current failed burn, Click on Retry. If you want to go to the next disc burn, click on Next. Otherwise click on Cancel."
Regardless of which option I chose, nothing works.
I've called Applecare about the problem. They've had me
    -reset the PRAM
    -unplug everything from my iMac
-delete the Library > Caches folder from both my hard drive and user account
-test burning a backup from iTunes in another user account (it worked find)
The last suggestion was an archive and reinstall, which I don't want to do (I want to be able to backup my music, but it's not worth it if I have to spend a day reinstalling all of my third-party applications).
(And it's not a problem with the blank DVDs: one that was rejected by iTunes in my account worked fine when I backedup to it from another account.)
Any idea what's causing iTunes to get the aforementioned error message and how I can fix it?
    Thanks!

Ok sounds like one of two things happend here
    1. iTunes lost its activation during the update. Try clicking on one of the songs in iTunes. Will it play them? If so they this is not the issue. If not it should ask you to provide the user name and ID for your account to activate that copy of iTunes.
    2. The other thing that may have happened here is that the iPod was connected to another computer and synced with another instance of iTunes. If this is the case then the iPod will only sync with that computer. You will need to delete the songs off the iPod and reload them from iTunes.
NOTE : DO NOT DELETE YOUR SONGS OFF THE IPOD UNTIL YOU ARE SURE YOU HAVE THEM ON A PC SO YOU CAN RELOAD THEM ON THE IPOD. Once the music files are lost they can not be replaced.

  • I have recently upgraded to the iPhone 4 I have lost two hundred purchased songs off iTunes now how do I get them back?

Please can you help me to get my songs back. I have no access to the computer I backed them up on. Obviously I have purchased alot of songs therefore would appreciate it if I could get them back.
    Thanks

All iTunes content on your iPhone - all music, movies, tv shows, and apps should be in your iTunes library on your computer - the computer used for syncing your iPhone with, and your iTunes library should be included with your computer's backup along with all other important data.
You get the songs back with the computer where the songs are located with your iTunes library.
If the computer is no longer available or accessible and you didn't include your iTunes library with your computer's backup, your purchased songs are gone - unless the songs purchased from the iTunes store are available on a previous iPhone that is available and working.

If they were songs you purchased from itunes, try redownloading them from your purchases...
if that doednt work, make sure the optuon to copy files to itunes media folder is checked in settings, then find and download from the net. and re-add them to your library

  • I had completed my iDVD project and burned a disc. It worked great! Then someone messed with the project and put a red frame around the opening screen. Now when I burn the project, it no longer has the opening frame. How can I fix?

I had completed my iDVD project, a Wedding Slideshow with pictures and music, and burned it on a disc. It worked great! Then someone messed with the original project on my computer and clicked around and put a red frame around the opening screen that has the Wedding theme with music. Now when I burn the project to make more DVDs, it burns but no longer has the opening frame. It immediately opens to the iMovie slideshow. How can I fix so I can burn the entire project with opening frames?

As Bengt suggested make a disk image of the successfully burned DVD using Disk Utility. Then you can burn copies any time you need one.
In the future once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image menu option.  This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image and launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding was good.
You can then burn it to disk with Disk Utility at the slowest speed available to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatium, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

  • Need to know how to burn just selected songs from purchase music.

I'm new to Itunes and was wondering how I burn a CD using just four selected songs from my purchased list in Itunes. If I just check those songs I want to burn, Itunes burns the whole list. I can't seem to copy those four songs and paste them into a new playlist either.
    Thanks,
    Dick Skover

Just make a new playlist and drag (don't copy/paste) the four songs to it. Then burn that playlist.
    Hope this helps.

I've created a movie now how do I burn it to a DVD?  I'm new in this forum so I may need help here, too.

When you finish your iMovie project, use the Share Menu to Share to Media Browser in Large or Medium size.
(Shareing to iTunes will work, too)
Then in iDVD, you can see the Media Browser at the lower right of the window. You can drag your project in from there.

  • Simple question - how to burn a mp3 cd as being a cd audio disk

I use to use Toast in os 9.x to do this.
What I want to do: Take an mp3 [or several mp3 files] and burn an audio cd disk that will play in my truck's cd player [that can't play mp3's obviously].
Question: Can this be done in Tiger without third party software?

Your link didn't work, but I did find the latest version of Patchburn at versiontracker.com for Mac os X and installed it.
    Patchburn didn't appear to work.
Here is the email I sent to Lacie [just moments ago]:
I purchased my Lacie DVD-R/+R drive from Lacie a few years ago. The
serial number of my drive is [censored by me here on the forum]. It is a +/-dvd/cd drive [that can burn disks].
First, I use Mac OS X 10.4.3. I have been able to burn dvd's, burn cd's, and so forth.
My problem: I recently attempted, for the first time, to burn an audio CD using iTunes. I was unable to get iTunes to recognize the drive. I posted on the Apple forum for help. I was told to download Patchburn, so I downloaded the most recent version of Patchburn. After installing Patchburn, a screen came up that recognized that this was a Pioneer drive and told me that now I should be able to burn audio CD's with iTunes. However, iTunes still won't recognize my drive. When I look in the upper right of iTunes I only see "Browse" and not "Burn" after I've selected [by highlighting] the songs I want to burn.
How can I burn audio CD's with this drive? Must I purchase a third party program? Is there a free solution?
    Sincerely,
    [my name]

  • How to burn imovie to dvd

how do i burn a imovie project to a dvd

    Hi
Depends on what kind of DVD You want
    • Data-DVD - just to store material, files etc (can not play in any standard DVD-player)
    • Video-DVD - to be played as any Movie DVD on standard DVD players
Data-DVD - just put in DVD and drop movies or files on it - I never do this
Video-DVD - Can not be don on Newer Macs WITHOUT a DVD-Authoring program as iDVD, Roxio Toast™ etc
If there is no iDVD on Your Mac (and it's not on newer Macs as Apple discarded it) then You need a program that can do this.
Your Mac can burn CDs and DVDs - BUT DVD as Data-DVDs not as Video-DVDs - they need a program to be encoded and STRUCTURED as such.
    • iDVD is part of the boxed version of iLife'11 and can only be bought outside Apple as on Amazon and e-bay
    • DVD Studio pro - Part of FinalCut Studio Pro bundle - this to has expired and can only be bought second handed. (High price and tough learning Curve - but best ever done.)
    • Roxio Toast™ - Not as elegant as iDVD - but has many other positive additions (I like it as 10-Pro incl BD-component) (now version 11)
    • Burn - only free alternative I know of on Internet. Very simple - Just for doing a plain Video-DVD
    Burn http://www.digital-digest.com/software/Burn.html
only You can buy from Apple is
    • FinalCut Pro-X which also can burn to DVD but without any nice themes.
    AppleMan1958
You can also buy Compressor from Apple for $50 US. It will also create DVD and BluRay but without the nice themes.

  • How to Burn a QT movie

I created a keynote presentation, and I exported it to QT so it can be viewed by presenters who don't have Keynote. In QT by clicking on the screen the presentation progresses -- all is fine as I want it.
I now want to burn the presentation to a cd so that it can be played on other computers mac/windows as a QT movie. How do I get the QT movie to burn to a cd?
    Suggestions?
    Carl

    Hi guys
Thank you for the reply. I've managed to get a disk burnt of the QT movie, but a couple of strange things happened that I hope you can shed some light on.
When I put the disk in the Mac and play the Keynote presentation, it works but in the slides with video both the video and audio are jerky-- sort of stalls out then leaps forward as though it's trying to catch up.
I put the disk in my dell with QT for windows on it that I recently downloaded as a bundle with itunes. I put the disk in, then I open QT player. It comes up and in file I click on the disk drive, highlite it and click open. Guess what -- error -103 is displayed with the phrase error of unknown origin. It won't play there at all.
Any clues or suggestions to solve either of these problems.
    Thanks
    Carl
