Purchased back ups?

I want to burn an MP3 disc of my purchases for my car but it will not let. Do I need to deauthorize or something? I tried that and it did nothing. If you cant do this then think might start buying real cds again.thanks in advance folks

You can't burn an mp3 cd of iTunes purchases because they are (for the most part) in protected aac format. Burn them to an audio cd instead if you want to play them in your car.

All of the data should be on your computer, simply sync it back.
If the update was done via iTunes on the computer, the first step in the process is a backup of the device.

  • Can I make one iphoto library from two time machine back-ups?

    Hi
I have recently purchased a new Mac Book. I previously had two MacBooks, which I backed up with time machine onto two separate external hard drives.
I did a straight transfer of all data from one of these time time machine back-ups to my new laptop. I'd like to migrate select data from the second time machine back-up to my new Mac Book, and I'd like to start by transferring photos.
My laptop has an iphoto library, so I would like to know if I can import select photos from this second time machine back-up, and how do I do that?
    many thanks
    Linda

First you need to restore the second Library from the back up. You need to restore the whole library, you can't just gather bits of it, I'm afraid.
Once that's done you have two Libraries. The easiest way to do what you want is to merge the Libraries with the paid version ($20) of  iPhoto Library Manager This can be set to avoid duplicates. See the Help on it for more.
This is the only way that will get all the versions and all the metadata.
Other than that you'll need to export from one Library and import to the other.

  • Can I have multiple iPhones with unique back ups using one icloud account?

    Hello forum users,
Can I have multiple iPhones with unique back ups using one icloud account?
I would like to back up and restore 4 different iPhones, 1 iPad, a MacBook and 1 MacBook Pro using the same single iCloud account.
If so, how is this done?
    Many thanks

Sharing an iCloud account between two devices can be done without causing issues with iMessage and FaceTime, just go into Settings for each of these functions and designate separate points of contact (i.e. phone number only, or phone number and unique email address).  While that works, you'll then face the problem where a phone call to one iPhone will ring both if on the same Wi-Fi network -- but again, that can be avoided by changing each phone's settings.
Rather than do all that, don't fight it -- use separate IDs for iCloud.  You can still use a common ID for iTunes purchases (the ID for purchases and iCloud do not have to be the same) or you can use Family Sharing to share purchases from a primary Apple account.

  • I recently moved my iTunes folder to a portable drive to make space on my macbook pro with Mavericks, and now the space is still taken up by back ups? any help to clear this space up would be greatly appreciated! Oh btw, macbook pro backs up to time caps

Im trying to free up some of the space on my macbook pro, its been filled up with itunes hd movies, so i purchased a 1TB portable hard drive and moved all my itunes files to it to free up some space. When i went into about this mac and checked storage, it says i have over 400GB's of back ups. I back up everyday through time machine to my time capsule, not sure what to do, any help is much appreciated! thanks

When Time Machine backs up a portable Mac, some of the free space will be used to make local snapshots, which are backup copies of recently deleted files. The space occupied by local snapshots is reported as available by the Finder, and should be considered as such. In the Storage display of System Information, local snapshots are shown as  Backups. The snapshots are automatically deleted when they expire or when free space falls below a certain level. You ordinarily don't need to, and should not, delete local snapshots yourself, nor should you disable them or Time Machine.

Purchase a couple of these when they go on sale.
Start burning all the photos onto DVDs.
At least you'll have all your photos if your computer, time machine or any other backup you use goes bonkers.

  • Issues with time capsule back ups when external hard drive is connected/not connected

I have a 2TB Airport Time Capsule (ATC) (tall tower type) purchased a few weeks ago and initially wanted it to back up a Seagate FreeAgent 500Gb external drive (formatted extended journalled) as well as three Macbook Pros.  The Seagate has a single partition called Lib and is not used for Timemachine backup; it just contains my iTunes library and lots of scanned and archived documents.  I want the Lib folder to be accessible to all three Mac users in the house and I've set up all of the Macs to connect and back up to the ATT.  They can all see the 'Lib' folder when it is connected to the ATC.
After a bit of searching on the discussion boards I realise that the ATC will not back up 'Lib' when the Seagate is connected by USB directly and that ATT will back it up if it is connect to my Mac and set not to exclude Lib  BUT I am encountering some problems with this scenario when I activate time machine.
When I disconnect the Seagate by using 'disconnect' in the ATC viewer in Finder I shut down the drive before disconnecting the usb and reconnecting to the Macbook Pro just as a precaution.  When i connect and then activate back up using Time Machine selecting the ATC data folder, it is showing no previous back ups and never backed up.  When I had the Seagate connected to the ATT I was seeing back ups as far as 6th May when I bought the ATC.  I know that the Time Machine backups are not on the Seagate as I had to reformat it a few days ago and use Data Rescue 3 when I lost the ability to see any files on it after disconnecting it from the ATC.    I saw the 6th May backups in Time Machine before I disconnected the Seagate a few minutes ago so they must be on the ATC - just not showing after the Seagate was disconnected.
Can anyone talk me through what may be happening here and advise on the best way of managing this.  I'm already planning to buy another external drive as the Seagate is getting a bit old now and I realise I should have secondary back up.  I should just say that the reason for bothering with the shared external drive is so that we can all access the photos and household files over the wireless network using ATT.  I would just like it to be backed up with minimal fuss if possible.
Many thanks in anticipation of some help with this
    I

I would fix the problem by simply installing a more flexible backup software. Carbon Copy Cloner costs US40. And it is licensed so you can load it on all the computers in your house.
It can backup the external drive while connected to the TC, although if you are using wireless it will be sure slow.
Including the external drive in your backup with TM, is just messy. It will work.. and although you are not seeing the previous backups, they are there.. but TM cannot see them until it reconnects with the external drive in place.  Once it reconnects it will need to deep scan the previous backup.. you are going to find a simple backup takes far longer than you want. It is also difficult to recover from.
    See Q5 here http://pondini.org/TM/FAQ.html
And several other comments in Pondini's KB will be helpful to understand. Sadly the guy who wrote it died before Mavericks came on the scene.. but it has more bugs than ever. TM has become less reliable for a lot of people.. and that is not doing any swapping of disks.
TM is honestly great for simple backups of your OS and particularly for incrementals but getting a clone of the disk like your external is far better for your setup.

  • How to restore my back-ups to a external drive

I recently installed a external usb 2.0 hard drive to my macbook pro.
I changed my Itunes media files location to said new drive and did the files - Library - Organize Library. But what I really need is to restored from backup DVD's to this new location My DVD back-ups do I have all my content I want to get into the external drive (that has enough space to hold all the media). I was running out of room on the laptop so I would delete movies that I don't watch all the time (as I have a backup copy on DVD) download more media. Repeat the process a few more times until I finally broke down and purchased this external drive to stop the madness.
But each time I put in my DVD backup it wants to restore to the laptop (even with new media location set). Any work around? Or
WIll I have to restore from DVD to laptop, and do a library consolidating process to get the media to the external drive.

    Hello Jayrajjpatel,
It sounds like you have a Time Machine backup on an external drive that you would like to use to restore your computer. The following article will help you get that done, named:
OS X Mavericks: Recover your entire system
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH14185
If you’re restoring your system because of a problem with your startup disk, repair or replace the disk before following these instructions.
Make sure your Time Machine backup disk is connected and turned on. If your disk is on a network, make sure your Mac is on the same network.
Choose Apple menu > Restart. Once your Mac restarts (and the gray screen appears), hold down the Command (⌘) and R keys.
Select “Restore from a Time Machine Backup,” then click Continue.
    Do one of the following:
External backup disk: Select it, then click Continue.
Time Capsule: Choose your network from the AirPort menu on the right side of the menu bar, and then select your Time Capsule and click “Connect to Remote Disk.”
Network backup disk: Select it, then click “Connect to Remote Disk.”
If necessary, enter the name and password you use to connect to your backup disk, then click Connect.
Select the date and time of the backup you want to restore, then follow the onscreen instructions.
After you restore your system, Time Machine may perform a full backup at the next scheduled backup time. This is normal. Time Machine resumes incremental backups after the full backup is completed.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the very best,
    Sterling

  • HT4847 If you have to manny old back ups on iCloud can u delete them with out loosing current and old things

If you I cloud memory is low can u delete all the old back ups w out loosing data

Yes you could delete backups without loosing anything on your device, but iCloud storage has nothing to do with your local device capacity. I guess that your device is just full and that you have to delete something like apps, movies etc to free up some space for other content.
iCloud uses its storage only for
Photos and videos in the Camera Roll
Device settings (for example: Phone Favorites, Wallpaper, and Mail, Contacts, Calendar accounts)
    App data
    Home screen and app organization
    Messages (iMessage, SMS, and MMS)
    Ringtones
    Visual Voicemails
purchases of apps, music, videos do not count against your iCloud storage capacity ( but please see also iCloud backup and restore overview http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4859).

  • New drive to store old back ups

I purchased a new, larger drive to back up my server. I copied the files from the first smaller drive to the new drive in order to have all of the history of back ups on the new drive. The problem is that I can't access the older backups from the old drive on the new drive. What do I have to do to achieve this goal.

how did you copy the files? did you do it by hand? that's a wrong way to do it. you should clone the old drive to the new one using either Superduper or the restore tab in disk utility. then select the new drive as the designated TM drive in TM system preferences.

  • HT201250 The back ups are not displaying when i enter the time machine

I'm trying to restore my files to my new MacBook I just purchased. I have the external hard drive connected and entered the Time Machine. But, the back-ups are not displayed "in pink on the right side" as indicated in the directions. I do see the back up folders when I open up the hard drive using Finder.  Any ideas on how I can restore my files?
    Thanks

You should be using Setup Assistant to import your data, as detailed here:

  • Lion installation problem- says hard drive is used for Time Machine back-ups!

I just purchased & downloaded Lion to install on my Apple laptop, but when I went to install it, I got the message:
"This disk is used for TimeMachine back-ups."
What the heck? As I use an external drive for TM back-ups, I'm really confused!  How can I get Lion to install on my hard drive?  I went so far as to turn off TimeMachine (see image, below), but it's still not working.
Any ideas?  This is really frustrating!

    Kathy,
Intel and Universal apps should be ok.  You can check this massive list for specifics on any application incompatibilities.
    http://roaringapps.com/apps:table/tags/_a/index_tags/_a
Just to confirm, was the problem Norton or was the backup directory present?
Glad your up and running now.
@Colin, Yeah it's the leftmost black and yellow.  It's an image burned in my head from the old PC days.

  • Removing old Time Machine back ups from Time Capsule

I have just purchased a new iMac (2.7GHz Intel Core i5 running LION) that I am using to replace both my wife's old iMac (2GHz Intel Core Duo running Snow Leopard) and my 17" MBP Intel Core Duo - we've both made the switch to iPads for lap browsing. I migrated my user accounts from both the MBP and old iMac to the new iMac and I want use TimeCapsule as my back up disk. However, I cannot back up my new machine because the older back ups that I no longer need take up most of the TCs disk space.
How can I remove the older, no longer needed backups from TimeCapsule to make room to run back ups of my new iMac? I've tried deleting the sparsebundle, but that did not seem to work.
If anyone can help, please be as detailed as possible in how to remove the back ups. Thanks in advance.
    - Ryan

    Thanks for the tip.
You did forget to mention that it is necessary to click on the "MANUAL SETUP" button located at lower left part of the Airport Utility window to get to the Disk.
I went through the more generic/standard setup windows a couple of times because I was not seeing the disk and thought I was missing something. After I had an "ah-ha" moment and clicked the manual setup key, everything was there and erasing the disk was easy.
    Thanks again,

How can I back up an iphone when I haven't set the phone up for back ups & the touch screen doesn't work? The phone can receive calls (not answer) & the pictures & messages can be seen but the touch screen doesn't work to unlock the phone or select anything. We want to save/transfer pictures, contacts, and music to the replacement phone.

Try backing it up to your computer with iTunes.  Connect it to your computer, open iTunes, click on the name of the phone in iTunes, go to the Summary tab of your iTunes sync settings and click Back Up Now.  Also go to File>Devices>Transfer Purchases to transfer you apps and other purchased media to your iTunes library.

  • Old iCloud Back-Ups

My iCloud is running out of storage and I would like to delete some of the old back-ups from previous phones, but I want to retrieve the photos from those back-ups first. Is this possible and if so, how do I do it?

First create a current backup of your phone by going to Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup and tapping Back Up Now at the bottom.  I recommend you also back it up to your computer just in case.  To do this, connect the phone to your computer, open iTunes, click on the name of your phone in iTunes, then go to the Summary tab of your iTunes sync settings and click Back Up Now.  Finally, go to File>Devices>Transfer Purchases.  You might also want to save your photo stream photos to your camera roll, then import the camera toll to your computer for safekeeping as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083.
Then to restore your iCloud backup you go to Settings>General>Reset, tap Erase All Content and Settings, go through the setup screens on the phone and when given the option, choose Restore from iCloud backup and follow the prompts.  Be sure your phone is connected to wifi and your charger while it is restoring the backup as this will take a while to finish.
