Purchased DRM restricted music, now its on iTunes Plus

I purchased some music from iTunes that was DRM restricted, looking back at the artists album I see now that their tracks are on iTunes Plus and therefore DRM Free.
Is there any way of redownloading the unrestricted tracks, or do I really have to pay again just to use the music how I want?
Any help input, Cheers.

hi
Well, you will need to sign in > click on iTunes Plus, there will be this option 'upgrade my library' - check it out it will have all the new un-drm versions of the songs & videos you had purchased perviously.
Upgrade charge: 0.20p per song / 0.40p per music video.
Keep in mind you cannot upgrade per song or video... if have many songs & videos you will need to upgrade them together at once.

  • Why is EMI Classics music not available as iTunes Plus?

Why would the album "EMI Classics: Stokowski plays Bach" not be available in iTunes Plus format?

The weird part for me was that I bought an album listed as being a featured album in the iTunes Plus soundtrack section of the store, and though it was listed as being an iTunes Plus album and all of the tracks were listed as $1.29 and had the "+" icon next to them, it only downloaded the $0.99 DRM versions of the songs instead. (I agree, I'm not going to be buying DRM'd music now if I can help it thanks to having the option of choosing DRM-free music from EMI.)
I sent a message to the iTunes Store support staff since I expected to receive the iTunes Plus version, and they told me that the "playlist is not an 'iTunes Plus' eligible playlist" -- even though it clearly was listed as an iTunes Plus album when I clicked to buy it, it's now not saying that it's an iTunes Plus album and all of the tracks are only listed as $0.99. The thing that confuses me is that the soundtrack is listed as being published by United Artists Corporation (I'm assuming because they're the ones who made the movie), but the digital album booklet that came with the album clearly says at the end that it was published by Capitol Records (which is owned by EMI).
Why would the status of this album be reversed?
Another thing that confuses me, in the "Top Albums" section of the iTunes Plus portion of the store, are these supposed to only be albums that are iTunes Plus enabled? or the top soundtracks from the whole of the iTunes store? I'm finding a few that are listed here now but aren't iTunes Plus albums, and don't know if they were reversed like my album (though the one I purchased is listed as #15 right now in the top soundtrack albums) or what.

  • Itunes downloaded, bought music now cant open iTunes at all

I downloaded itunes, bought music now I can't get into anything on iTunes or even my music library of purchased music. Is there anything on my computer I can check?

Also, why is every song I downloaded at a different volume level?  I am constantly adjusting the volume on my iPod with every song. Any way to fix this?

  • A protected AAC song I purchased isn't available to convert to iTunes Plus.

I'm in the process of converting my songs from the protected AAC format to the purchased AAC format.  A song I purchased a while back is in the protected AAC format and doesn't show up in the iTunes Plus section of the store.  I've already looked at the get info on the song, and my account is in the purchased section.  Why isn't this song available?  Is there a way to fix this?

    Several possibilities:
If you have purchased songs from multiple accounts, the Store will give you a separate list of available upgrades for each. But it sounds like you have already verfied that you are looking at the correct account.
There is a recent bug whereby the upgrade list will sometimes show only full albums, not individual songs.  Search in the Store itself to see if the song exists in its new (Plus) version.  If the song exists and is for sale, but is not showing in your upgrade list, then bring it to the attention of iTunes Customer Service.
The other possibility is that the song that you bought back in the day is no longer for sale.  In this case there is no way to get an upgrade.  However, you can use iTunes to burn the song to an audio CD, which some people find to be... handy.

  • HT3702 Why is Apple trying to steal money from me? I already paid for my purchase when i bought my music, now its trying to charge me twice. Why do you need to steal 6 more dollars from me Apple?

I recently bought an EP, a song, and a Add-on for a game, all while I had over $30 on my credit card, but now apple is telling me that I did not pay for my stuff. Now I cannot download anything new, and I'm being punished for apple having a terrible payment method. The money was taken from my bank account so either they messed up or apple is trying to steal another $6.50 from me, which is not okay. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Contact the store directly. No one here can help you.

  • Rejected by iTunes Plus

iTunes Plus tells me I have several (25 actually) songs available for upgrade, when I click the BUY button, and after it asks me if I'm sure I want to go through with this purchase, obviously I do, a message pops up telling me that:
*The item you tried to purchase is no longer available.*
The availability of the item changed while you were using the store.
The same item may be available with a different price or elsewhere
    on the store.
Anyone run into this, or have a clue how to get around it and complete the purchase?
    Thanks,
    jd

I've had the same problem, since iTunes Plus was introduced. I upgraded some of my music right away. It took a few days, since the downloads stopped many times. I suppose everybody else was upgrading. A short time later, i found out, that some more of my music had come in iTunes Plus versions. I tried to upgrade that music as well. Much to my surprise, some of my already upgraded music was still on the list. Since it is only possible to upgrade all or nothing, I tried to upgrade all. I then got the same erroe message as in the first post.
I reported the error to iTunes support on June 17, 2007. They were very nice and replied several times in the first weeks to tell me, they were working on the problem. They even gave me 3 downloads for my patience. Trouble is, I still get the error message, even though more of my music now exists as iTunes Plus. And I'm not hearing from support anymore.

  • Convert Purchased DRM-Protected Songs to DRM-Free Versions

Convert Purchased DRM-Protected Songs to DRM-Free Versions
as per iTunes / Help / Usage rights for iTunes Store purchases:
"All songs offered by the iTunes Store now come without DRM protection. These DRM-free songs, called iTunes Plus, have no usage restrictions and feature high-quality 256 kbps AAC encoding.
If you have older iTunes Store purchases that are now available as iTunes Plus downloads, you may upgrade your existing purchases. To do so, visit the iTunes Store and follow the onscreen instructions."
Looking at iTunes / Store / Purchased, which shows the list of songs that I have purchased, I do not see how I can tell if my older songs are with or without DRM protection.
How do I identify what songs have DRM protection? I want to convert any purchased music, which have DRM protection, to newer DRM-free versions.
    Thank you.

    Yank,
The upgrade program described in that document was discontinued  by Apple a few months ago.  Here are the options now:
If you have a lot of tracks to upgrade, you can do it by subscribing to iTunes Match and following the instructions by which to delete your DRM copy and download the non-DRM matched copy.  See the section "Can I upgrade my previously purchased music to iTunes Plus?" in this guide: iTunes Store: iTunes Plus Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
If you only have a few to upgrade, you can buy them singly.
How do I identify what songs have DRM protection?
In your library, use Songs view, and look at the "Kind" column for ones with the word "Protected."
If you do not see Kind, enable it by going to View > View Options.

  • Using iTunes Plus to upgrade and restore music

I had a bad computer crash a few months ago, lost all purchased music, then found said purchased music for upgrade in iTunes Plus. Purchased the upgrades, but they are nowhere to be found on my iTunes. Do I need to re-purchase the songs, or can I find them somewhere in the abyss that is iTunes?

The iTunes Plus upgrade process works by your purchased history, and does not care if the pre-upgrade versions are still in your library or not.
First look on your hard drive and see if the Plus versions are there somewhere. If you paid for the upgrades and did not receive them, contact iTunes Customer Service:

  • Okay, what is the deal with ITUNES plus?

I've read multiple threads and post. I've downloaded the new version. From what I've gathered, it seems only EMI artists are currently part of the ITUNES plus? I also understand you are "supposed" to be getting a better quality of sound from artists you download from Itunes Plus? Furthermore, I see they increased the price for a single download for any artist associated with ITUNES plus. Now... anyone care to explain to me what all this mention of DRM-free means? Does this mean we can actually convert our purchases to mp3's and upload them up to our non-apple music player? Because this is all I care about at this point. However, since it's only restricted to EMI artists and I haven't a single tune downloaded from that companies' artists, this new version means squat to me. Does this mean, eventually the other companies will jump on the band wagon, and we'll be able to finally convert our music to play on any music player? I hope so. But for now, it just seems like Apple just found a way to charge us more for their songs. Hmmm?
      Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Almost since the inception of iTMS and later iTS the Internet has been rife with people complaining about Apple's use of DRM on music tracks. Obviously no record company was going to sign up to DRM-free music on the first day of iTMS as it seemed obvious that it would be onward distributed with no financial recompense to the record company so DRM was used to allow the track to be played on five computers and any number of connected iPods (very generous really). However acknowledging the discontent around the globe Apple's CEO Steve Jobs wrote his Thoughts on Music. Shortly after that EMI obliged Apple's request and agreed to offer DRM-free music that you could potentially totally abuse and send to all your friends (Don't though). Apple and EMI believe that, in actual fact, the ease of iTS will mean that people won't do that but they will actually buy music themselves. Actually iTunes Plus trackscontain your iTS username so it's traceable.
    Advantages of iTunes Plus:
256k (vs 128k) encoded tracks - better quality for the serious audiophiles.
DRM-free means you can load your tracks on to your generic mp3 player/mobile phone etc.
Freedom - not tied in to the iPod platform (a big risk to Apple IMHO).
    Disadvantages of iTunes Plus:
    Higher cost.
Greater file size = less tracks on your iPod.
    EMI tracks only.
I think it's a good idea to offer the choice, and a few cents extra for the freedom is probably worth it. I see this as Apple driving and leading the music industry to improve the service for us the customer. Happy Days.

  • ITunes Plus, Very dissapointed

I never say anything bad about Apple and their products but there is a first time for everything. Today I upgraded to 7.2 and went and purchased the upgrade for my music at around 2:00. The first three songs out of the 14 downloaded fine but the remaining 11 are taking for ever to download it is 9:30 now and I am still waiting for them to get down, I have three remaining now. This is ridiculous there is no reason for this to happen especially when I have cable internet, and now for the past 10 minutes the three songs keep coming up saying that there was an error and can't download, I paid for this music and It better download soon. I think Apple should take a big hard look at this "Plus" crap becuase right now its not very "Plus"

I had close to 100 files to upgrade, I've gotten about 70 of them. The last 30 are bogging down, throwing errors, etc. I am sure the servers are overwhelmed right now, so patience is a virtue. You do have an option of pausing the download which I have done. I intend to try a lot later tonight when the server traffic may have slowed down.

  • How to check for iTunes Plus upgrades

I can't find the link to check if I can upgrade my iTunes purchases to iTunes plus. It use to be on the store's main page. Is it gone? Is there another way to check? I know that at least one of my purchases is for sale as an iTunes Plus selection but I can't find a way to upgrade.

If you don't have the iTunes Plus link in your Quick Links list, then you don't have any songs/albums that are upgradeable. I have the same problem that you described: I have some DRM versions of albums that are now available in iTunes Plus format. Yet they have never shown up in my upgrade section.
I e-mailed iTunes support about this issue. I received a response that, essentially, the new versions provided by the labels are slightly different in some way and cannot be matched to your purchase history. So you're out of luck.
If someone can shed more light on that, I would appreciate it. I'm obviously not too thrilled with that response.

  • ITunes Plus - How do I get rid of it?

I was recently trying to purchase a song when I accidently hit iTunes Plus instead of Buy. Now, most of the songs that I am trying to buy are for iTunes Plus. Is there any way I can revert to the regular iTunes without having to buy songs for an extra price? Help is appreciated!

Click on your account icon in the upper right of the main store window. Once in your account, the first section will allow you to disable iT Plus.

  • New iTunes Plus pricing and upgrades

Does anyone know why I still have to pay 30 cents per song to upgrade my purchases to iTunes Plus, when the songs now cost only 99 cents? I understood paying the upgrade when the songs were $1.29. Now, it seems like we are getting screwed. Also, some of my purchases are not recognized by iTunes to be eligible for the upgrade (specifically, Dark Side of the Moon, which is one I would certainly want to upgrade and clearly shows up on my purchase history). Shouldn't Apple let us upgrade for free now that the iTunes Plus is the same price as the song for which we originally paid? Also, shouldn't there be some way to manually access the upgrade?

The only answer anyone here can give you is "because that's the way it is". Most likely EMI considers the Plus tracks as a separate product and wants more money for them, but that's just guessing.
some of my purchases are not recognized by iTunes to be eligible for the upgrade (specifically, Dark Side of the Moon, which is one I would certainly want to upgrade and clearly shows up on my purchase history).
If a tracks shows as being available as Plus and is not appearing when you check for eligible upgrades, contact the iTunes Store Customer Service department using the form at the bottom of the Purchase Issues FAQ web page and explain the problem to them.
