Purchased Lightroom software on disc, new MacBook Pro does not have a disc drawer.

Purchased Lightroom software on disc, new MacBook Pro does not have a disc drawer. Have already opened box. Searched online and someone suggested downloading the LR trial, and set up Cloud, then can enter the serial number to complete the purchase. Which is what I did, but the serial number is being rejected.

Ok, maybe what they’re calling Creative Cloud is merely your Adobe ID, an e-mail and password to login with.  The LR5 6 update link is probably what you want to download—all updates are downloads, anyway, so there’s no need to have a disc reader as long as you have internet and the serial number.
Here is the LR 5.6 update for a Mac:  http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5822
Another issue might be that what you think is a serial number is a redemption code that needs to be converted to a serial number using this website:  http://www.adobe.com/go/getserial   A clue that you have a redemption code is that it has letters and numbers.  A serial number is just numbers and the first few are 1160-something.

  • My new Macbook Pro does not have Frontrow

Just got a new Macbook Pro Intel 2 Duo Core but I can't find Frontrow? It came with a remote too.
I downloaded an update but it's a ".pkg" so I'm unable to open it.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    thanks!

FrontRow should be installed on your new MBP. It's not a usual application, you'll find it in System/Library/CoreServices.
What happens when you press the Menu button on the remote or Command-Esc on the keyboard? That should invoke FrontRow.
If it really isn't installed, you can install it from the OSX disks that came with the Mac.
Insert Disk 1 and click the "Install Bundled Software Only". Follow the instructions. After selecting the install destination, click on the Customize button and you should find Front Row as one of the options.

  • My new macbook pro does not have a safari icon

Just got a new Macbook Pro and when I logged on there's a ? mark where the safari icon should be.  Also when i attempt to click on it nothing happens.
I have no way of getting on the internet..

Your Safari application should be in your Applications folder. See if it's there. If it isn't post back. How are you getting onto these forums? Through a browser. Then download:

  • New Macbook Pro does not possess a disc drive. WHAT.

I... don't know what to think. How could they?

My opinion, is that it is a mistake to assume that everyone will want to email files or store them in the Cloud. Size limitations and security issues abound.
Clients want DVDs, more and more want BluRays. They are still a solid storage medium/transport medium to say nothing of the billions of albums and movies out there. Not that many people can actually use a thumb drive to watch something on their TV, though the number is growing. DVDs rule the roost and will for some time.
But you can certainly get an external drive. The bigger faux pas, in my view, is the dropping of authoring support. No one else with a track record of offering pro software has dropped DVD authoring support. Now, that's not what iDVD is, but is that day coming for FCP, for example? Hope not.
You are the smartest person here. You deserve a cookie.

  • This seems a little ridiculous... My brand new macbook pro does not have a cd drive? This makes an external port the only solution right?

I think this is a little ridiculous... Beings as I am mainly going to be using this for school and when I travel this being missing is a huge downfall for me... Now to watch movies on the plane I am going to need to be toting around a separate piece of machinery... Anyone elses thoughts?

  • Can someone tell me why my Macbook Pro does not have IDVD?

Can anyone tell me why my $$$$ Macbook Pro does not have IDVD? I when to do an IMovie and media shared to IDVD and me computer could not locate. I thought that all Macs have IDVD.  Maybe they forgot it.  I did a search in applications and it said it had no file.  I uploaded the newest IDVD and it told me that I needed IDVD it was not on my computer. Something is wrong with this

iDVD has not been available with iLife since the upgrade to Lion. It is no longer in production. Try purchasing one of the older iLife '11 boxed set DVDs on Google or eBay.

Do you still have the instructions for your mouse? Most have a button somewhere that puts it in a discoverable state.
