Purchased movie never fully downloads

I recently purchased the movie Spider Man 2 on my computer, via iTunes 10.6.3. The standard definition and iTunes Extra files downloaded without any problem, but the HD version of the movie never seems to completely download. Instead, I am constantly seeing "Downloading 1 item" in the screen on top of my iTunes window. The progress bar is full, indicating that the movie has either completely or nearly finished, but it never seems to completely finish. Clicking on the "X" in that screen does nothing. Likewise, I can't stop or delete it by selecting either the movie itself from the Movies item in the Library listing on the left, and I also can't do anything from the Downloads option under the Store on the left side of the window.
I will occasionally get a message asking me if I'm sure I want to stop the download, and I click "OK" but that does nothing either.
If I quit iTunes, then the attempt to re-download it will start back up from the beginning the next time I launch the app.
Thoughts?

Quit iTunes. Go to Music>iTunes>iTunes Music. Find a folder called "Downloads". Empty the contents inside. Try to re-download the movie again.

App Store says I downloaded an app but it never fully downloaded?

So I was downloading an app (keynote) but it never fully downloaded. Like it froze mid download. So I refreshed the iPad and when I checked, it was nowhere in my apps. So I went back to the App Store to re-download it, but when I found the app, the only option was to "open", as if I had the app on my iPad. So I clicked "open" but nothing happened, the iPad just froze and crashed. I keep trying and the same thing keeps happening. So then I went to settings and found the app there, but the logo is all weird. But there's nothing I can do about it there. So I went to Search iPad and typed "keynote", but nothing showed up, as if I didn't have the app. So, summarized, I want an app that I don't have, but I can't download it because Settings and App Store think I already have it.
What should I do?
(For what it's worth, this is all from a brand new iPad mini)

or if you sync with a computer you could try downloading it to it and sync it down
or you could try to hold your finger on top of the icon until it begin ti wiggle and have an X which if pressed will delete the app so you can redownload it as one can only buy an app 1 time all other attempters to rebuy it with the same appleid will result in a free redownload

Annoyed that my previously purchased movies cannot be downloaded, some i have not yet seen. I suffered an o/s crash leading me to download itunes again...but i cant have my movies back. But Americans can.... why?

That is because they are not available for redownload in the U.K.

I have to wait until a movie is fully downloaded until I watch it.

I have to wait until a rented movie is fully downloaded until I watch it. Yet my neighbour (bought ATV a year ago) can download and watch a rental after 5 minutes. Is this a setting that I must change?

Welcome to the Apple Community.
You don't need to wait until it's fully downloaded (unless you rented it from your computer). The Apple TV calculates when enough of the media is downloaded to play it without having to stop to wait for more to download, different internet speeds mean that the time getting to this point is different for everyone.
You probably have a slower internet connection than your neighbour.
The first thing to check would be your internet download speed, you can do this at www.speedtest.net.
HD movies require a recommended speed of 6 Mbps, while SD movies require a recommended speed of 2.5 Mbps.

TS1707 what to do if you hit "play" before rental movie has fully downloaded?

last night i hit "buy" on the itunes store for a HD movie. this morning i checked my rental tab and it showed the movie thumbnail and synopsis. i boarded my plane and eagerly hit "play". the 24 hour warning dialog box came on, i checked it and waited. i get a message the the movie is now downloading and it will take 86 hours. but i have only 24 hours to watch my movie. i wrote to apple support. but has anybody ever encountered this before?

HT1725 I am having problems getting rid of old podcast downloads that never fully downloaded and now are just stuck in my account.

I tried to download a tv episode and a podcast awhile back and the tv episode didn't fully download due to a poor Internet connection. The podcast just didn't want to download for no reason as that was done another day with excellent connection but both didn't want to download even after I retired many times again using many methods I read on here? Now they just won't go away and just show up on the Downloads section of my account on iTunes and don't know how to get rid of them. I don't even care that I paid for the tv episode I just want them both gone. Any help on how to delete them both from my account? They just keep saying that there both are unable to download at the time when I tap on the download tap. It's been over 3 or more months that they just are stuck there.

It is very difficult to offer troubleshooting suggestions when the "os version" you are using is unknown as each os has their own troubleshooting solutions.

Oi would not have thought the film would not have started unless the film was fully downloaded. The film warned me prior to tarting that I only had 48 hours to watch once starting!

Can you cancel an Itunes purchase before it fully downloads?

I accidentally clicked on the wrong title. Itunes automatically started downloading the movie. Can I cancel the download and not be billed for the price of the movie?

When you are signed in at the iTunes store, under TV shows > Quick Links, > Purchased > TV Shows , Select relevant show > then tick Episodes & tell us what you can gleen from that.

How can I tell when a movie has fully downloaded?

I rent a movie and after a while, AppleTV says it's ready to watch. I hit play and realize the movie really isn't ready to watch. How can I improve this process?

No easy way to do this.
AppleTV only downloads/prebuffers enough video to allow you to start watching while the rest downloads in the background before it says it's ready to play - generally if your internet connection speed is steady this works fine.
Doing other things with AppleTV eg watching trailers, streaming local content, youTube can 'flush' any predownloaded contenet necessitating a restart of the download.

Hi all. I'm wondering if it is possible to download a movie to your MacBook Air and watch the bit that is downloaded (while the rest of the movie is downloading) through my Apple TV? It won't seem to let me watch it until the movie is fully downloaded.

Our internet seems to take a while so it would be easier to watch it as it's downloading. Please help!!

The only way to stream it would be to rent or purchase directly on Apple TV, however if your connection is slow you would still have to wait before initital playback begins. Best to upgrade your service.
