"Purchased Music" folder shows different music on different macs...

All the music was purchased with the same ID. But over the years, they were purchased from different authorized machines in my household. Some mac some windows (I am under the authorized computer limit of 5).
Recently, I consolidated all the purchased music as a single backup and restored them onto all my macs. On these macs, all the purchased music is viewable in the Library->Music. However, if i click on the "Purchased Music" folder, each mac shows a different list of purchased music. It "sort" of corresponds to which machine was used to purchase the music, but not exactly.
I would like, on each mac, for ALL protected AAC music downloaded from iTunes Music Store, to show up in "Purchased Music" folder. How do I make this happen?

The 'Purchased' playlist behaves just like a normal playlist.
You can add and delete items in it like in any other normal playlist.
Why it contains other items than purchased ones, I can't tell.
I can only guess you dragged those items in it by accident.
To correct this, select the non-purchases and delete them.
Hope this helps.

  • Showing Songs In 'Purchased Music' On 2 Macs?

My 24" Intel iMac has gone away to have a new Superdrive fitted so I am currently using my 7 year old G3 500Mhz iMac!
I need to buy a song from iTunes using my G3.
How do I ensure that the song is installed on my Intel iMac (when I get it back) in the Purchased Music folder?
I need it to be there because that is the folder that I back up daily to my iDisc via my .Mac subscription.

I resolved this in the end by dragging the song into a plug-in flash drive on my G3 then plugging the flash drive into my Intel iMac and dragging the song into the Purchased Music folder. It works fine.
Was this an overly-complicated method of getting an iTunes song from one computer to another?

I would very much like two answers:

  • Backup: Restoring Purchased Music to another Mac

How can I use the "pre-defined" Backup Plan "Purchased Music and Videos" to do the following:
    1) Backup to CD/DVDs
    2) Restore to another Mac in a separate folder so that items can later be dragged into the destination Mac's iTunes Library
I have tried the obvious already, and it appeared that there was no song files in the restored folder. I don't quite understand how to do what I need.

You can't backup to an externa hard disk in iTunes, but there is nothing to stop you doing it in Windpws Explorer.
Assuming you have a default installation i.e music files in the iTunes Music folder, just close iTunes and copy the iTunes folder to the external disk.
It more convenient to use backsoftware which can backup changes, so after the intial backup, further backs are fast.
There is an article on backup here:

  • IPhoto Slideshow using iTunes purchased music publish to .Mac

I created a slideshow which used a song which I purchased through the music store. I exported this and uploaded it to .mac. If I view this web page on a another computer beside my mac it wants it to be authorized.
I thought when I purchase music I could use it in iPhoto and iMovie. Why is it forcing me to authorize all computers.
How am I suppose to share this slideshow/movie with my friends and family. I am all for DRM when it comes to protecting music but now I can not use the song except on my mac or computers I authorize (Which is limited to 5). I think this is a bit unfair.

    Hi Squig,
It's a shame isn't it. You need to do a little sneaky work around by first burning the tune to cd (while you are at it, burn a bunch of others that you might want to use in a slideshow. Import the burned cd back into iTunes. Click on date added column so you can see the DRM-less tunes you just imported. Rename those tunes so you know those are the ones without the DRM and then use those tunes in your slideshows.
by the way, you can use them in iMovie if you are then sending those iMovies to burn within iDVD. You will run into the problem if you export the iMovie to quicktime.

  • How to use iPod to move purchased music between a Mac and a PC

I use a Mac at home and I work with a PC (unfortunately)
I want to use the new function that give you the opportunity to import in iTunes library the new purchased music from iPod.
In order to have both computer able to connect to the iPod I format iPod from PC (FAT32)...
But when I connect the iPod to my iMac, iTunes ask me if I want to format the iPod to be used with Mac.
If I reply NO, I can't see the iPod and then I can't import music.
    What am I doing wrong?

  • Can anyone help with a problem transferring purchased music PC to mac?

I have recently moved from a PC to a macbook pro, and have previously purchased 10 or so albums from iTunes store that quite happily updated to my iPod so that I could play them.
I used iPodutil to transfer all of my music to my new mac iTunes library, reformatted my iPod for my mac, but on syncing to get all of the songs from my mac back onto my iPod, find that "these songs were purchased for another computer, and cannot therefore be downloaded to your iPod". Essentially everything that I have (ironically) legally paid for through iTunes refuses to download to my iPod because it is not the original PC I purchased them on??
Does anyone have a fix for this, or is the "switch" from PC to mac going to deny me my favourite and legally purchased tracks?
    Thanks in advance
    Andrew

Have you authorized your Mac to the iTunes Store account under which you purchased these tracks? If not, you need to do so, either by playing one of the tracks or by using the Authorize command under the Store menu in ITunes.
If you have, but haven't played the tracks at least for a few seconds, try than and then try transferring them to your iPod. Sometimes the authorization doesn't "take" until the track is first played in iTunes.
    Hope this helps.

  • Move purchased music from mac to pc

Hi all, not sure whether to post this under iTunes for Mac or iTunes for PC.
I want to move purchased music from a mac to a pc. I've read http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1329 and http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/articles/comments/moving-your-itunes-library-to -a-new-hard-drive/ but I'm still not sure of the best way. I've "authorised" the pc. Some hours of trying to get the mac & pc to connect to one another via lan got nowhere so I'd like to try going via external disk. Do you think I can just copy the iTunes track files to a (fat32) hd then plug that into the pc and somehow copy or import them into iTunes? The pc is brand new afaik w7; the "mac" is actually a bootable (ccc) dump of a mac which isn't working at present, with another mac booted from this. TIA for any advice - Terry.

+Some hours of trying to get the mac & pc to connect to one another via lan got nowhere+
That's too bad, it's uefull to have file sharing set up between the two. It was kind of a pain for me to set up, but I'm glad I got it going in the end.
I finally stumbled on the Mac setting in System Preferences > Network > Advanced > WINS to set the proper workgroup name.
Do you care about ratings, play counts, etc? If so it is a bit more work.
If not, yes, just put the purchases on the exHD while connected to the PC, then connect the exHD to the Mac and add them to your Mac itunes library.
Make sure the itunes preference > Advanced for "Copy files when adding..." is checked, so they will go to the Mac's hard drive.

  • I have logged in to my itunes account on a different computer and none of my purchased music is showing up. I also have plugged my iphone in to get updates but it says I will lose all media and apps if I don't update on the computer where  I sync everythi

I have logged in to my itunes account on a different computer and none of my purchased music is showing up. I also have plugged my iphone in to get updates but it says I will lose all media and apps if I don't update on the computer where  I sync everything. I have authorized this new computer so I don't know what the problem is. I can't get on my old computer with my itunes account because the computer is broken. Not sure what to do

"I have logged in to my itunes account on a different computer and none of my purchased music is showing up."
Correct.  it does not magially appear in other places.  It will only be where you put it.
"I also have plugged my iphone in to get updates but it says I will lose all media and apps if I don't update on the computer where  I sync everything. "
Correct as well.  Iphone will sync with one computer at a time.  Syncing to another will erase the current content.
You need to copy everything ( itunes library/contacts/pics/calendars/files/docs) from the old computer, or your backup copy of the old one, to the new one.

  • How do I transfer my iTunes library to a new computer?  I have transferred purchased music but wish to transfer the rest of my library.  Home sharing isn't responding and the computers are going to be in different locations.

How do I transfer my iTunes library from my old computer to my new one?  I have successfully transferred purchased music but not my library of CDs.  Home sharing will not work, and isn't working in fact, as the computers will be in different countries.

Assuming your library is in the default location and all of the media is stored within the library's media folder then this is what you need to do:
Copy the entire iTunes folder from <User's Music> on the source computer to <User's Music> on the target computer.
You can do this directly over a network (making use of shared network folders) or by making a copy on an external drive, moving the drive between computers, and copying again. Any way that works is good. However if you say that you cannot use Home Sharing (doesn't work properly anyway) because the source and target are not on the same network then method 2 as I describe it won't work either.
Your playlists, play counts, ratings etc. are stored inside the database iTunes Library.itl which is inside the iTunes folder and a successful migration includes all of this information, not just the media files. I recommend method 1 from the earlier link as it sets you up with a backup mechanism to use in future. All hard drives fail eventually and often without warning, or at least a warning that is noticed and then heeded.
If the initial assumption is wrong, or you need help checking, just ask.

We have 4 iphones and an Ipad in our family. When we purchase music, I would like for the entire family to be able to use it and then back it up to Icloud. What is the best and cheapest way for this to happen.  Should we all have a different apple id or should we use the same one.

You will all need to be on the same itunes account ID.
You can however all have seperate icloud accounts aswel.
