Purchased Music Missing?

An album I bought on itunes has the exclaimation symbol on it. I've seen this question asked a few times, and I've tried to delete the songs and then re-download them from my account. This seemed to make the problem worse, now the songs are greyed out, and won't let me click on them to recive an error message. How do I get my songs back, and why did this happen?

Nevermind, I sycned my ipod to my iTunes and it found the album through my ipod. It's never done that before when I had other music missing, but it's back now so try this if you have a similar problem

  • Itunes opens with library and purchased music missing

About every two weeks to a month I open itunes and it says it is copying library. It says the library is corrupt and itunes opens completely empty. No record of any songs play list or purchase history. I have about 11 files in my itunes folder marked itunes library (damaged). All my music is still in my itunes folder and I can drag and drop them back into itunes manually (hours of time), or use a 3rd party program to copy from ipod 5th generation, but sometimes even the next day itunes loses all knowledge of itself. This started about the time i upgraded to 6 and continues to get worse, I have 7.1.1 now.

If you had the hard drive from the original machine, a backup of the same, an iPod with the media, or a subscription to iTunes Match then there would have been hope, but alas no.

  • All purchased music missing from library on my mac.  can't find most files on my hd either.  help

I switched from a computer to a mac in the fall. ever since some of the music in the library couldn't be played due to the file could not be located error.  upon getting a new iphone a couple of days ago, i now no longer have any music at all in my library, nor are the files anywhere on my hard drive.  do I have to download all previously purchased songs again?  thanks

Time to start fresh anew, since it seems you may have really mucked up the library.
Hold down option key while you click on iTunes. Then chose NEW LIBRARY.
Now... re-download all past music purchases.  Should be good to go.

  • Why is my purchased music missing from my iTunes account?

I've had the same iTunes account for about 4 years and only my most recent purchases are showing up on my account

    Thank you for your reply.
Not all are listed on the computer.  But it was listed on the ipod itune purchased so I tried to download them again and its downloading right now...and didn't re-charge me.
Shouldn't they be listed on my computer also? on itune purchases?

  • Songs missing from purchased music but are in library?

I just got a new Macbook Air and uploaded my itunes music via flash drive. I also exported/imported my playlists. I just noticed that my purchased music playlist is missing the first 22 songs however, they are in my library. Any ideas why this would happen and how to fix it other than manually putting the songs back into that playlist?

The "purchased" playlist is automatically generated only when purchases are made on any particular computer and those purchases are automatically added to it. It is not a Smart Playlist that automatically picks up old purchases if you transfer the library to a new computer. You can easily drag-n-drop anything you want into the playlist, though.

  • ITunes purchased music now missing...

I have purchased music from itunes, entire cd's, and now the music is missing from my library. The file is there, but it has an ! next to it. When I try to play the songs, it states that the file cannot be located. I have gone to my "purchased" items in the iTunes store, and nothing is listed for download. This has happened to more than 1 cd - and it is frustrating because they were purchased through iTunes so there is no "hard copy" to reload from. I have tried completely deleting iTunes and re-installing it to no avail.  Can someone please tell me where my music is, how to get it back - and why it is disappearing in the first place? This is music I paid iTunes for  -  so am not sure why iTunes is taking it away, so to speak...... VERY frustrating and annoying.

I have tried this. The songs are not listed there. These are albums that I have purchased through my iPhone. For some reason- they keep going missing from my iTunes library. Same Apple ID, no changes. The weird thing is- only some of the songs from the albums are missing. So it's not the entire album in all cases, but it is in others. I completely wiped my computer of iTunes, redownloaded it, and started over. The songs were there. Now- 4 days later- they are missing again. This is SO annoying! It's not like these are songs I ripped from someone else - I paid for these through iTunes. Why do they keep disappearing and re-apearing? Is there anyway to save them in a different format on my computer if I can ever get them back again? This deleting and reloading is getting old... I even tried the "repair" option when downloading iTunes. That doesn't bring the music back. This is so weird.. I've never had any issues before....

  • "Purchased" playlist missing music

I accidentially deleted the purchased playlist.I purchased something and got the purchased playlist back except all the purchased music is missing from the playlist, is there a way to put all my purchased music back into the playlist?

Click on the *Date Added* column.
If 'Date Added' isn't showing, either right-click on the column headers bar and select it,
    or
itunes menu > View > View Options and check the Date Added box.
If the little triangle is pointing down by the words date added, the most recent additions will be at the top. If the triangle is pointing up, oldest additions will be at the top.

  • Purchased Music playist missing

My Purchased Music Playlist is missing from the "Store" menu. Please help.

Just create a smart playlist where 'Kind' contains 'Protected'.
That will make a playlist of all your purchased music and will continue to do so as you buy more. It won't however look like the green playlist that was there before, nor will it sit below the Store.

  • HT203167 My purchase music from iTunes is missing tracks. missing tracks are not showing in the purchased tab in iTunes

I cannot recover My itnes purchased music from the recovery section. more than half the tracks are missing in the Camilo sesto 20 exitos.

I have the same problem - they AREN'T hidden. They aren't visible on computer, iPad or iPhone with match on. Obviously something screwed in the purchase history. Even if I have backups they will count against the 25,000 track limit for iTunes in the cloud - which is a bit of an issue as I have 24,997 non-purchased track already.
A bit of an issue for someone who's bought a lot from iTunes over the years - and not helped by being unable to get an answer from support. Oddly if I switch match off a few of them become available.
Any suggestions - apart from contact support (I'm still waiting) - appreciated

  • Missing purchased music on new ipad

When I look at the "music" on the ipad, it says there is no music on the ipad. When I choose "music not on this ipad" all the music appears, with little clouds next to each song. If I choose "download," the songs download and then they appear with the little clouds next to each song and the ipad still shows that it has no music on it.
The music shows up on the iphone and the ipod touch, but not on the ipad.
Thanks in advance for any help you can offfer.

So maybe I should rephrase this question. I have a 4th gen. 64 g ipod touch, an iphone 4, an ipad mini. I used to be able to sync and back up to my old PC, but before i bought the ipad mini, it died. I was given a mac ibook, but the latest OS it will run is 10.5.8 - it's not an intel. None of the devices will show up on it.
I can't get the music that is in the cloud and on my touch and phone on to the ipad. I try to download it, it processes, showing a blue bar as it's downloading onto the ipad, but when it's done and I go look for the song, the little cloud is next to it and there's nothing in the library when I choose "music" on the ipad.
If I were to buy itunes match, would the music automatically sync among all my devices or would I still have to buy an intel-or-better mac to listen to itunes-purchased music on all my devices?

  • Missing purchased music

    hi,
i purchased music directly unto my ipad last week, i checked over the weekend and its all gone. i ve been billed for it cos when i go to my itunes account the bill is displayed there. can anyone tell me what has happened? i never transfered it to my pc

If you connected your iPad to another computer and somehow synced it to a different account, your music would have been removed.  You are in luck though since the iTunes store allows redownloading of music now. Open up the iTunes app and click on the "purchased" button.  You should check to see that your iPad iOS and your install of iTunes are up to date. Movies and TV shows still do not allow redownloading so you will want to be more careful in the future with this sort of content.  There is also a setting in iTunes and on all iOS devices now to download content purchased on other devices. If you turn this on for all your devices and iTunes, you will find your music already available when you switch between them.

  • Missing Purchase Music

I reloaded my computer and have all of my music in existing folder structures on my PC. I was able to connect to Apple and bring down my purchased music again but then was asked if I wanted iTunes to manage my folders for me or not. I said "yes" and that's when my purchased music disappeared. I've since uninstalled iTunes / reinstalled. Removed new iTunes folder structure that was created when i said "yes" and still "no luck". Now when I try to get my purchase music again it says you already downloaded it to this machine

"Make a smart playlist where “Kind” is something like “Protected AAC audio file.”
I did this and was able to drag my protected content into the Purchase Music folder successfully.
    Thanks for everyone's help.

  • Songs that I have purchased are missing in iTunes (file not found/exclmation point), and do not show up in the iTunes Store for download.

I have a laptop that has (or had) pretty much all of my music, both burned from CDs and downloaded from iTunes. My 17 year old son on occasion syncs his iPhone and iPad with this laptop. As of the last sync (as best I can determine), many songs that I purchased in the past few years are now missing, in that they have an exclamation point to the left of the song title, and when I try to play the song, I get an error message that says "The song could not be used because the original file could not be found" or something to that effect. As it turns out, the file seems to be erased. This has happened multiple times, and I could be wrong, but I believe that there are some songs that had the exclmation point last time he synced that now don't, and vice-versa. There is not an obvious correlation or grouping as to why these songs are missing (e.g,. they were not all purchased on the same date, not all songs from one artist are missing, etc.).
Since most of these songs have been purchased through iTunes through my account, my reaction was to go to the iTunes store, log in with my account, and re-download them. Problem is, all of these songs instead ask me to purchase the song, instead of displaying a "cloud" logo. Therefore, it appears that I have to re-purchase these songs, which does not sound correct.
Questions: Does anyone know, most importantly (to get an immediate fix):
    1. How can I re-download these songs and why doesn't iTunes Store recognize that I have already purchased them?
and perhaps as important (more of a long-term question):
    2. Why does this happen and how can I prevent this from happening again (since it has happened multiple times)?
    Thanks.

    1. iTunes won't offer cloud downloads for songs that it "thinks" are in your library, even if it "knows" the files are missing. If you've exhaustively searched for the missing files and there is no prospect of repair by restoring to them to their original locations, or connecting to new ones, then delete that tracks that display both the missing exclamation mark and are of media kind Purchased/Protected AAC audio file. Don't hide from iTunes in the cloud when asked, close iTunes, then reopen. You can download from the cloud links or iTunes Store > Quicklinks > Purchased > Music > Not on this computer > All songs > Download all.
    2. Why? Not sure, perhaps 3rd party tools or accidental key presses combined with previously hidden warning messages when trying to organize the library. There is a hint that using the feature to downsample media as it is synced to a device may also be involved, though I've not replicated it. Whatever the reason a backup would protect your media.
