Purchased new ipad tonight unable to download app

I purchased a new ipad air 2 tonight.  Tried to download app, was told that it failed and am unable to proceed further

Hello Joe,
If you have not been able to install an app from the App Store, I would quit the running app first:
iOS: Force an app to close
Double-click the Home button.
Swipe left or right until you have located the app you wish to close.
Swipe the app up to close it.
When you have done that restart the device and test the issue again:
iOS: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting
If that does not resolve the issue, would you mind elaborating with the exact message you are getting when you try?
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
Regards,
Sterling

  • Ipad 2 unable to download apps

My Ipad 2 is unable to download apps from the App Store
    IOS 5.1
Wifi is con connected to the internet and browising fine
Always I hit to install an App from the App Store it just says "waiting" for ever
I managed to install from I Tunes but thats not what i want, I want to download from the Ipad like I always did!!
    Help anyone?

Make sure that you do not have a download in iTunes that did not complete - a song, a podcast - that can stall the apps from downloading and you will get the "waiting" message. Look in iTunes and if that's the case - finish those downloads first.
I copied this from OSX Daily's site a couple of days ago.
If you’re trying to install a handful of iOS apps and your entire home screen is filled with app icons labeled “Waiting…” without any of the progress bars moving, downloading, or installing, you can fix this fairly easily with the two methods below. Try the first method before going nuclear with a reboot though:
Tap a single app icon so that it says “Paused” and then tap that app icon again to see if it resumes downloading
If pausing and resuming didn’t work: Reboot the iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch
You may notice a related issue where apps from the App Store will say they’re “Installing” though they aren’t appearing on the iOS home screen yet, that is also resolved with a reboot.
It’s not totally clear what causes this, though it seems that a lot of people are encountering the problem right now when moving from an old iPad to a new one. It could be that Apple’s servers are just overloaded with downloads from the App Store, or it could be a bug.
You can also try signing out of your account, restart the iPad sign in and then try again. Sometimes that helps.

  • HT2589 My new ipad air will not download apps or ask for my itunes account info when I do try to download or purchase an app.

Just added the new ipad air to my itunes account. When I go to purchase or download apps it will not ask for my itunes account info, a grey box appears on my main screen with "waiting" under it and in the "app store" it will show the app that i chose with a constant spinning circle. Any ideas?

The iCloud account has nothing to do with downloading apps over wireless, but if you do not have an iCloud account you can delete that account information if you want to do so.  Do you have other use of WiFi with the iPad?  It is connecting and working correctly for email and such?
You could try going to Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings and then re-select the WiFi network and enter the password again...then do a reboot by holding both the power and home buttons until the apple logo appears, ignore the red slider if that appears.
All of that may clear problems of a minor nature.

  • Ipad 2 "unable to download app" frozen screen

I was downloading a game last night and the little box came up that said "Unable to download application" and it'll be downloaded after I log into itunes from my computer. So I logged in on my computer, but the little box won't go away. The game downloaded, but I can't do anything else. On the box there is a done and retry button, but nothing happens when I click them. I can't do anything else on the screen. I tried to do a hard reset (home and power button) but when the slidey thing comes on the screen, I can't slide it and the box just stays in the middle of the screen. What can I do to get rid of this?

Have you tried a reset ? Press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • Purchased new music, but unable to download

I just installed new itunes 7.0. I downloaded some tv shows no problem. I just bought some new music through Itunes, and I get an error message when the music begins to download: "Please check that the connection to the network is active and try again." Itunes is connecting fine, so what network is it talking about?

    Hey thegigstar,
This message is refering to your computer network, the connection to the Internet. There is most likely a firewall application running on the computer denying iTunes access to the Internet.
This article shows howto enable iTunes in the Windows firewall: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304082
If that article does not work and reconfiguring/disabling other security/firewall software does not resolve the issue. Goto Help inside of iTunes> Run diagnostics> Network Diagnostics and paste the results here.

  • HT4972 I am unable to download apps because my iOs is not up to date. No update shows up in my General settings, how do I update my iPad?

I am unable to download apps because my iOs is not up to date. No update shows up in my General settings, how do I update my iPad?

If you have an iPad 1, the max iOS is 5.1.1. For newer iPads, the current iOS is 6.1. The Settings>General>Software Update only appears if you have iOS 5.0 or higher currently installed.

If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect the iPad to the computer, open iTunes. Then select the iPad under the Devices heading on the left, click on the Summary tab and then click on Check for Update.
Tip - If connected to your computer, you may need to disable your firewall and anitvirus software temporarily.  Then download and install the iOS update. Be sure and backup your iPad before the iOS update. After you update an iPad (except iPad 1) to iOS 6.x, the next update can be installed via wifi (i.e., not connected to your computer).
Tip 2 - If you are updating using wifi, locate your iPad close to your router so you don't get a wifi dropout (can cause update corruption).

  • I can no longer access apps on my new iPad that we're downloaded on old one.  Using cloud.

I can no longer access apps on my new iPad that we're downloaded on old iPad.  Using cloud.

Are you trying to download them from your purchased list?  If so, make sure you are signed in with the Apple ID you used to purchase them in Settings>iTunes & App Store, and that the apps are still available for purchase in the App store.  Then you should be able to download them as explained here: Download past purchases.
If that isn't your question, please explain further.

unable to download apps to my new ipod touch .. message keeps saying my security code for credit card is not valid...please help

Credit card either isn't supported with the purchase or you typed it wrong.
Or just log out, log back in and type again. Could be a system error.

  • Hi I am having problems downloading and updating apps on my iPad and iPhone. The message cycles between waiting and loading then I get an error message saying unable to download app. Eventually, after many attempts it works.

Hi Guys - for a few days I have been having problems downloading and updating apps on my iPad and iPhone. The message cycles between waiting and downloading then eventually says unable to download app. Sometimes after many attempts it wil eventually work. I tested it on an old iPhone 3G and got the same problem so it is not an iOS 5 issue. My WI-FI connection is working fine. I was wondering if this is an App Store problem? Anyone else in the UK having this problem?

    Hi John
iTunes Support wasn't of any use to me.
I have also been having another problem - with BBC iPlayer and other video streaming not working due to insufficient bandwidth, despite my overall download speed being consistently around 50Gb.  This is also affecting AppleTV downloads
I am using Virgin Media as my ISP, and was wondering whether you do as well.  This might be the common thread.

  • Since updating to IOS 8.1 on ipad mini can't download apps.  Apps show "waiting." Have reset to new condition with no improvement.  Any solution?

Since updating to IOS 8.1 on ipad mini can't download apps from iTunes store.  Apps show "waiting." Have reset to new condition with no improvement.  Also turned off Wi-Fi and re-connected.   Any solution?  Thanks,

If you restored your iPad as new, and it still didn't help, I don't know if anything in here will help. in any event, I have posted this boilerplate of suggestions many times in the past and the suggestions in here have worked for others at one time or another. Feel free to give them a try.
    1. Tap the "waiting" icon and see if you can pause it. If it does pause, then tap it again and see if it will resume. If that works, repeat the same steps for each "waiting" icon.
    2. Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
    3. Make sure that you do not have a stalled download in iTunes - if you have a download in there that did not finish, complete that one first. If you see a downloads tab in the lower right corner, then there is a download in iTunes.
    4. If that doesn't work - sign out of your account, restart the iPad and then sign in again.
Settings>iTunes & App Store>Apple ID. Tap your ID and sign out. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Go back to Settings>iTunes & App Store>Sign in and then try to update again. Tap one waiting icon only if necessary to start the download stream.
    5. You can also try deleting the waiting icons - tap and hold down on an icon until it wiggles - the tap the X on the icon to delete it. Then try to download again. Apps may also be able to be deleted in Settings>General>Usage>Storage if you cannot get the X to pop up on the icon.
    6. You can try resetting all settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. You will have to enter all of your device settings again.... All of the settings in the settings app will have to be re-entered.
    7. Reset your router. Unplug it from power for about 30 seconds and then plug it back in again.
