Purchased OSx 7 Mountain Lion on May 31st. After a virus in October

Purchased OSx 7 Mountain Lion on 5/31/13. After a virus in October & system wipe, I'd like to re-install without having to re-purchase. It was sent as an online update, so I don't have a disc (or the original e-mail, due to the virus). Couldn't restore e-mail from backup...

It was sent as an online update, so I don't have a disc (or the original e-mail, due to the virus)
It's highly unlikely you had any kind of virus since there are none that affect OS X. A Trojan or a couple of others types of malware, possibly.
Anyway, I presume "It" is Mountain Lion? If this purchase was from anywhere other than directly from Apple, either through the App Store or Apple's online store, then you bought an illegal copy from another vendor. As such, it's very likely that download of ML itself was laced with malware.
You should fix your tag line. iOS 7 and a 13" MacBook have nothing to do with each other. The iOS is a completely separate OS and is only for Apple's mobile devices such as the iPhone and iPad. OS X is what runs Apple's computers, such as your laptop, iMac, Mac Pro and Mac Mini.
Your tag line also doesn't match up with your post. All late 2007 MacBooks came with Leopard, 10.5.x and can't run any OS higher than Lion, 10.7.x. So it's not possible you ever had Mountain Lion, 10.8.x running on that Mac.
If you did purchase Mountain Lion (much more likely, Lion) through the App Store, all you need to do is login to the App Store with the identical user name and password you make your App Store purchases under. You will be able to download and install your OS upgrade again at no cost.

  • I'm now running OSX v. 10.6.8.  I purchased OSX Mountain Lion from the app store

    I'm now running OSX v. 10.6.8.  I purchased OSX Mountain Lion from the app store & after about 40 minutes of "downloading" (started 40 or so minutes ago) my iMac restarted & I signed in.  But OSX 10.6.8 is still there & the image of OSX Mountain Lion is in my dock with the caption "OSX Mountain Lion -- Paused" !!!  ...Now ANOTHER 20 minutes have passed & no change nor other prompts nor info have come up!!  WHAT'S GOING ON???  PLEASE HELP!!! ~~~THANK YOU!!!

    THANKS SO VERY MUCH, mende1, for so quickly responding to my plea for HELP!!
    I had never turned my iMac off so I still don't understand why the download paused, & when I looked in my Applications folder there was no Mountain Lion, but your words, "However, you can pause and resume the download as many times as you want"  encouraged me to look deeper & try harder!!  I clicked & double-clicked (& multi-clicked!) the Mtn Lion icon in my dock to no avail but finally, I clicked & HELD the click for about 7 seconds . . . . . . . & then a little pop-up came & asked me if I want to "Resume the download" or stop it!! So I slid the cursor over to "Resume..." & it's downloading again!! ~~I HOPE!!  I guess 4.4 GB of OS update will take more than a little time to get in there!
    ~~~Again, THANK YOU so MUCH & God less you with a WONDERFUL time with your studies & future dreams!!!
  • Do I have to purchase OSX Mountain Lion for each computer
    I have Apple desktop and laptop that I want to upgrade to OS X Mountain Lion.  Do I have to purchase the software twice and download it twice for each computer?
    No. One purchase multiple installs. Just have 10.6.8 or Lion installed on each computer. Once you purchase and download you can redownload with the other computer by logging it into the App Store with the same Apple ID. Or you can do this to save the download time:
    Make Your Own Mountain/Lion Installer
    1. After downloading Mountain/Lion you must first save the Install Mac OS X Mountain/
        Lion application. After Mountain/Lion downloads DO NOT click on the Install button.
        Go to your Applications folder and make a copy of the Mountain/Lion installer. Move
        the copy into your Downloads folder. Now you can click on the Install button. You
        must do this because the installer deletes itself automatically when it finishes
        installing.
    2. Get a USB flash drive that is at least 8 GBs. Prep this flash drive as follows:
      a. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
      b. After DU loads select your flash drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left
          side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
      c. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one.
          Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the
          partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until
          the process has completed.
      d. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side
          list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
      e. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the
          button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
      f. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to an hour depending upon the flash
         drive size.
    3. Locate the saved Mountain/Lion installer in your Downloads folder. CTRL- or RIGHT-click on the installer and select Show Package Contents from the contextual menu. Double-click on the Contents folder to open it. Double-click on the SharedSupport folder. In this folder you will see a disc image named InstallESD.dmg.
    4. Plug in your freshly prepared USB flash drive. You are going to clone the content of the InstallESD.dmg disc image to the flash drive as follows:
      a. Double-click on the InstallESD.dmg file to mount it on your Desktop.
      b. Open Disk Utility.
      c. Select the USB flash drive from the left side list.
      d. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
      e. Select the USB flash drive volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
      f. Drag the mounted disc icon from the Desktop into the Source entry field.
      g. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
    When the clone is completed you have a fully bootable installer that you can use without having to re-download Mountain/Lion.
    Note: The term Mountain/Lion used above means Lion or Mountain Lion.
    As an alternative to the above (you still have to do your own download of Lion/Mountain Lion) you can try using Lion DiskMaker 2.0 that automates the process of Steps 2 through 4.
  • HT1338 I purchased OSx mountain lion - but it won't download
    Mountain lion does not seem to be downloading. I get the icon in launchpad with the text "downloading" but nothing is happening! I tried to repurchase and was told I had already purchased it - accepted offer to re-download and still nothing happens. Any ideas what is going on here?
    Thanks
    John
    I have a very similar, possibly exactly the same, situation. Purchased Mountain Lion after making sure I had the latest OSX prior to that, it seemed like it was downloading, but nothing happened. Shut down my computer, came back this morning, went to the app store, and clicked the download button again. Indicator spun for a second, then nothing. Any ideas on how to either finish downloading, or get my $ back?
  • How do I download my already purchased OSX Mountain Lion again?
    I've done this before, but for some reason am blocked now on the App Store Purchases tab. I've already purchased Mountain Lion, and need to create a bootable USB drive to reinstall it. I don't feel like paying $20 again, or finding an illegal copy since I've already purchased it. But what's going on? How do I download this again?
    Thanks everyone.
    I don't know if that's true. If you RENT a movie you can only download it once, but if you purchase it you should be able to download it multiple times. If you purchase a movie, and delete it, you should still have it saved in the Cloud. Maybe you aren't showing purchases from The Cloud in your iTunes lists. To fix this in iTunes on your computer:
    In the menu bar > iTunes > Preferences > Store (Store Preferences) > Show iTunes In The Cloud Purchases (Enable this)
  • OSX Mountain Lion change keyboard language after reboot
    My native language is Portuguese, and since the 10.8.1 update, every time I reboot my computer, the keyboard language goes from Portuguese to English.
    I set it again to Portuguese and after a reboot or if I shutdown the computer and start again, its english again.
    This bug is very annoying, because all the layout changes. Does anyone have this problem or know how to fix it?
    I'm also have the same issue. I use the Spanish ISO keyboard settings. Every time I reboot or logout the USA keyboard appears again.
    As rmz83 I only have check the Spanish ISO in system preferences/language & text/input sources on OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.2.
    Anyone knows how to solve this problem??
  • App Store not showing OSX Mountain Lion as already purchased.
    I previously purchased OSX Mountain Lion and now need to redownload the installer. When I go to the App Store, Mountain Lion shows as needing to be purchased again. What is going on?
    If you have made purchases in the past, but do not show any purchases on the Purchases pane, then you are likely not signed into your account. You sign in and out of your account in the Store pulldown menu of the Mac App Store toolbar.
    If you don't see View Hidden Purchases you haven't hidden any.
  • Progress bar is stuck downloading OSX Mountain Lion
    Hi All,
    Please help me.
    I purchased OSX Mountain LION at Mac App Store. Its almost 6-7 hours still now its showing only little progress done. I cant see how much % done. Just I can see blue spot on launchPad.Its not moving forward at all. It is stuck. How to know whether it is done or what? When I went to App Store Its still showing "Downloading".
    Why it is stopped at that moment?
    Please let me know what happened?
    I am having Mac OSX Lion using Mac Book Pro.
    Please Help me
    The download is over 4GB (4,000MB or 4,000,000KB).  If you have a basic internet service, it could take several hours to download.  Even a 10Mbps connection will take a little over an hour.
  • HT1338 I went to the Apple Store and bought the OSX Mountain Lion update and it is still downloading.  The download began at around 7:00 PM last night.  It is now 7:03AM.  What's wrong.  The icon on my computer says it is downloading still.
    My OSX Mountain LIon is still downloading after the download was initiated 12 hours ago.  What's wrong?
    Possibly nothing. The whole thing relies on the amount of people currently doing the same thing as you and also your internet connection, remembering that WiFi is extremely slow.
    How far through the download is it? If it's nearly done and at least still moving along I would be inclined to leave it. If not then you can stop it and start it all over again. Just be warned that if it is simply a connection issue then you might just be re-starting your clock
    PS - I've seen the download take over 60hrs before.
    Open the Mac App Store on the other Mac and in the Quick Links sign into your account. See if the Mountain Lion purchase is among hidden apps in the iCloud area of your account info.
    To recover Mountain Lion to your purchases, open App Store > Featured > Account (under Quick Links) > Show hidden purchases, and show OS X Mountain Lion. Finally, it will appear on Purchases tab
