"Purchased" playlist when syncing

I have an iPod Nano (I think 4th generation) which syncs with a music library in iTunes on my iMac. All software is up to date.
When my iPod is mounted and I am in iTunes, and I select my iPod as a device, and then go to the tab Music, I see the four areas Playlists, Genres, Album and Artists where Ican choose things to be synced with my iPod.  In the Playlist box is an item called Purchased which is NOT in the list of Playlists shown in iTunes.  What is it, and why is it in the Playlists box for syncing when it is not in my Playlists as shown in iTunes?
As a more general form of this quesiton, what do I need to read in order to understand these puzzling asplects of iTunes?

See https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3399264?start=0&tstart=0 -- the answer in this thread fixed it.

  • Having issues with purchased playlist and syncing

So, I'm really particular with the organization and appearance of all the music on my iPod (I'm someone that goes into the artist tab when looking for something to listen to, so the path is always artist > albums > songs), so often times after I purchase something, I'll edit the song or album titles to look nicer (so it doesn't say 'Deluxe Edition'), or to organized things into the specific albums I want (so there isn't a song missing from an album that I purchased when it was a 'single').
I've started syncing my iPod to update any songs I want to add manually (as in, ones that I've added from places other than the iTunes Store and therefore wouldn't just appear on my iPod) because iTunes stopped letting me click and drag songs I wanted to add for whatever reason. Anyway, I had to delete my Purchased Playlist from my iTunes library because when I synced my iPod, it would change all the song and album titles back to the original ones they had before I edited them, which would then change them on my iPod, and instead of having everything in neat, well organized places, I'd end up with like three different versions of the same album with the songs split up because of little differences in the labeling, and that drives me crazy.
But now, every single time I purchase something, the Purchase playlist reappears on my playlists on iTunes, and even though it just lists the thing I just bought (as opposed to my entire purchasing history), it still changes all the files I've ever purchased back to the original names and messes things up. And when it's over 200 songs, I'm really not in the mood to go back and manually edit every single song info every single time so that my iPod is organized when I sync it. And the thing is, when I right click and go to 'get info', the edits I made are still there, and I don't even have to erase or change things, it will just automatically fix itself, but only after I right click and go to 'get info', which is still a pain in the butt.
So, is there any way to either stop iTunes from changing all the info back, or to better yet, just not create a Purchased Playlist when I buy songs/albums?

  • Purchase Playlist wont sync with my ipod

Recently I am syncing my itunes with my ipos and I can not see the purchase folder in my ipod. Help PLEASE!
    SONY VIAO   Windows XP Pro

You will not see a Purchased playlist the iPod unless you create a new playlist.
The one just below iTunes store does not get transferred over, even if you transfer everything. The songs will get transferred, just not the playlist.

  • Itunes freezes at "finding purchased items" when syncing itouch!?!!?

So I bought an Ipod touch 3rd generation from my friend about 4 months ago. it was working fine and syncing with itunes perfectly. then, about 2 months ago i updated my itunes to itunes 10.2.2 and that was a total mistake. i would open itunes and it would run slow, then when i tried syncing my ipod it would always freeze at "finding purchased items" and i had to force quit every time. i figured i would just wait for another update. now, a couple months later, ive updated to itunes 10.3.1, in high hopes that it would work. but still, nothing. it continues to freeze at "finding purchased items" I've tried to sync my old Ipod nano to the same itunes library and it worked fine! it's just not working with my itouch!!!
Ive read up on it and done all of the following:
    Deleted ibooks
    Sync from back up
    Reinstall itunes
    Restore itunes
    Made a new library
    Turned off home sharing
    Manually synced music
    Unsubscribed to podcasts
Allow it to attempt to sync overnight
    And many more things!!!!!
And just now i tried syncing it again and now it began freezing at step 2:preparing to sync!
the ONLY conclusion that i can come to is authorizing my computer. Since i bought the ipod off of my friend we decided to share an itunes account so that i could purchase stuff using her itunes account. since i got the ipod i HAVE made many purchases using her account. but when i tried authorizing my computer to her account it says something like "this account can only be authoorized to 5 computers" the problem is, i really need it to sync to more than 5!?
This has been going on for too long and now its getting extremely frustrating for me. I am a teen and I would love to listen to the newest music! so this is a real problem for me. Someone, PLEASE HELP!!!!! AND FAST!!!!!!!!!!

Screenshot of how it froze just now.....

i just found out how to deauthorize all computers. i deauthorized them and am re-syncing the ipod now-hope it works!

  • Duplicate Playlists when syncing with Media Go

Having a minor, albeit annoying, issue with Media Go. Pretty much every time I sync it with my phone, instead of just updating the playlists it created duplicates of the playlists so I end up with "R&B" and "R&B(2)" for instance. I have about 25 playlists and it really bugs me that after every sync it turns into 50 and I then end up having to manually delete the duplicates from File Explorer.
Anyone else encountered this issue or have ideas how to prevent it?

    What if you try this
settings > apps > all > walkman > clear data > restart your phone > check again.

  • How do I disable transfer of purchases to my iPad when syncing?

Hello all. Let me preface this buy saying that I am an Apple software support person with over 15 years of experience (11 of that working for a Apple specialist).
Is there anyway to disable the automatic transfer of purchased items when syncing my iPad? I have looked around and no one seems to want to give an answer. They go on and on about how Apple wants you to transfer purchases and you really should let iTunes do this. I know all these things, but I am looking for an answer. Can this be turned off?
Thanks in advance for an answer (hopefully).
    Kurt.

If you mean go to iTunes preferences and under the store setting, make sure the choices of always check for downloads is "unckecked", I have been through that already. Any other ideas?

  • Problem when syncing: won't update itunes play count/last played etc

My old 2g shuffle was capable of updating play count/last played and adding songs to the recently played playlist when synced to my itunes.
Seems my new 3g shuffle can't do this.
I remember the trick with the 2g was to make sure it was switched off first before connecting/syncing, but I've tried all sorts of different combo's with the 3g and nothing will make it update song stats in itunes.
How can I make it update my itunes?

Ok, cool, I figured it out:-) Just in case anyone ever has the same problem, here's a quick rundown:
Basically it's the same problem you can get with 2nd gen shuffles if you're manually managing songs. So I just unticked manually manage music in the device summary and got the shuffle to sync music from a playlist I created/dumped all the songs I wanted into.

  • How can I keep a playlist on phone when syncing with new computer?

When syncing my IPhone I am prompted with an ominous message that says "Are you sure you want to remove the existing music ... from this phone and sync with this ITunes library? Music .... will be removed and items will be synced from this ITunes library" The answer is no because I have a playlist I would like to keep on the phone, but add one which resides on the computer I am attempting to sync with. That is not an choice presented, the choices are Cancel or Remove and Sync. Apple should either give more options or at least a better explanation. I have synced this phone and computer combination before but have since created a new playlist in the computer (a Mac Mini).
So how can I keep a playlist on the phone and add one from the computer too? Is it possible to view the phone as a drive and move items around in that manner? I use ITunes on both Windows and Mac platforms but this issue has always been problem for me. I also have IPhone 3 (used as an IPod), IPhone 4S and Iphone 5.

Unless you can get the iPod backup file (and restore the iPod from that file on your new computer) from the "dead" computer you will lose all the app data you can export via email.
    - Yu can trabsfer iTnes purchases from the iPod by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer
    - You can transfer non-itunes purchased music to the new computer by using one of the third-party programs discussed in this previous discussion.
    Best iPod to PC
    - After you move the stuff to the new computer, either restore the iPod from the backup, or if no backup, restore to factory defaults, new iPod and sync.

  • When I create a playlist and sync it to my iPhone not all of the playlist transfers over.  All of the songs are there and are playable they just do not show up on the playlist.

When I create a playlist and sync it to my iPhone not all of the songs on the playlist transfer over.  All of the songs are there and are playable they just do not show up on the playlist.  For example, in itunes on my computer a playlist has over 100 songs, but when I sync my phone, my iphone only shows 60 songs.  I can go into my phone and add the missing songs to the playlist, but the next time I sync my phone the songs are gone again.

Wondering if you haven't been bitten by the new "feature" of iOS 5, as was my son. turingtest2 explained it very well in reply to my own query about "missing" songs in playlists.

    Hello there, Capricious13.
There are great pointers in the following Knowledge Base article. Depending on where you see the content and where you want to get it to, this should guide you to putting it in the right place:

  • How come playlists and total songs don't match up when syncing in iTunes?

    Hello,
I own an iPod Touch 5G and sync it regularly via usb cable to my MacBook Pro 17", using iTunes 11. I seem to have a terrible time understanding the concept of syncing music/movies via the "selected playlists, artists, albums, and genres" option. That doesn't mean that I'm choosing to sync manually, just means that I'm syncing only certain playlists/content, even if done "automatically" whenever I connect device with iTunes, correct?
For some time now, well before iTunes 11 came out, I haven't been able to accurately sync the music and videos I'd like to "push" to the iPod Touch. No matter how many times I sync or think I'm removing content from the iPod touch by way of iTunes, I always end up with more on the iPod than I ever wanted. It seems like that capacity bar at the bottom of iTunes screen telling me what's on the Touch is a big joke, as it never seems to accurately show what's on there.
For example, I have a lot more songs and videos in iTunes than what my Touch has space for, so I can never have all my content syncing to the Touch. I have created numerous playlists inside iTunes, in fact, this is how I organize my music for listening.  I was under the assumption that whatever playlists I check while inside of iPod touch area of iTunes when the devices is connected, those are the ONLY playlists and songs that will be on the iPod touch. This is never the case. After checking the desired playlists and syncing, I have the correct number of desired playlists on the iPod (let's say it's currently 10 playlists), but in actuality, when I go to the iPod touch after disconnecting from iTunes, there's a LOT more songs on iPod than just the ones within those 10 playlists. It's like when I got rid of some of the playlists on the iPod touch, the songs never got erased, only the playlists they were place in.
So, my question is, in short, how do I have ONLY the songs within my 10 playlists and no more after syncing with iTunes? Similar issue pertains to my synced videos/home movies. They are never erased from Touch, even though certain ones are unchecked within iTunes.  If somebody could shed light on this issue, I'd greatly appreciate it! I feel like something designed to be so easy and logical has been anything but that.

when you play the CD in your laptop on your home screen a Cd should pop up under the name of the album. Than when you open itunes it will probly say something like "let this CD download" or something like that. If it doesn't than automaticlly while the CD is importing to your itunes a page will pop up with a progess of the CD download.
    Hope that helped.

  • I have just purchased a new macbook and need to sync my iphone with itunes, i understand that you can only sync your phone with one itunes account. I do not want to wipe my iphone when syncing with this new itunes account. Any advice welcome

I have just purchased a new macbook and need to sync my iphone with itunes, i understand that you can only sync your phone with one itunes account. I do not want to wipe my iphone when syncing with this new itunes account. Any advice welcome

    1) authorize iTunes on the new machine for your iTunes store account(s)
    2) connect your device and right-click or control-click it in the iTunes Source list, then choose transfer purchases from the shortcut menu that appears.
    3) sync the device
iTunes will wipe the iPhone but, since you transferred your purchases in the previous step, your content will be in your library and you can re-populate the iPhone with it.
