Purchased song cant be made into ringtone?

I know that we have to purchase a song from iTunes to make it into a ringtone so I did, but to only find out that it can't be made into a ringtone.
I already have the song on my computer (I ripped it from my cd's) and so I have two copies, a worthless one that can't even be made into a ringtone, and one that I have on my iPod.
What should I do since we can't make my own customizable ringtones?
or is there something that we can make my own ringtones?

As for bought songs you need to make sure it has a bell icon next to it in the iTunes store. Only those songs can be made into ringtones (not all songs are available).
As for custom. Well, you can look for the software mentioned, but you can also do it yourself quite easily if you know a little about how to use a computer and find the instructions online. With iTunes 7.5 and iPhone firmware 1.1.2 one can make their own ringtones pretty easy (at least easy for me).
Sorry, cannot post instructions here as they have deleted past posts about it.

  • This song cannot be made into a ringtone!

I JUST purchased a song to use as a ringtone (even though I had this song IN intunes because I owned the CD.
I downloaded it, and right clicked make ringtone and it says:
This song cannot be made into a ringtone. XXXX song title can no longer be made into a ringtone.
    I JUST BOUGHT IT!
    HELP!
    Sharon

After you open the iTunes application select "iTunes Store" in the left panel.
On the top right corner below the "Search iTunes Store" you should see your ID for the store. Click on it.
Enter your password and click on "View Account".
Click "Purchase History" and then click "Report a problem".
On your latest purchases you should now be able to click on the link "Report a problem", select the "Problem" and enter your "Comments".

  • What? Now those purchased songs can't be made into ringtones?

Well, I buy a lot of music from the iTunes music store, and I have an iPhone. Perfect. Now I can make my own ringtones!
Well, it used to be that way. I made three ringtones about 6 months ago. Recently, however, I began to realize that fewer and fewer of the songs in my library had the ringtone button. What's going on? I even checked the songs that I had already made into a ringtone, and even THEY were missing the button?
A quick check on the iTunes Music Store shows me that many of the albums I have purchased are able to be turned into ringtones. Why, then, can I not do that? I ALREADY BOUGHT THEM, and indeed I already used some of them!
I called apple and was informed that I must repurchase the songs, because they had been "updated." Really? If that is the case, and I must repurchase songs that I have already purchased, just so I can then further purchase 30 seconds of that song for a ringtone, then I quit. If there really is no other way, then I will never buy from iTunes Music Store again. I am a long time Mac customer and music enthusiast, and I will NOT be punished for trying to do things the legal way.
    Is there any other way?

Anyone you might have reached on the phone will have no knowledge about the issue; the iTunes Store does not have any telephone support, and the Apple tech support reps have no information about the iTunes Store products or policies.
First, make sure that you're running the latest version of iTunes and that you're connected to the US iTunes Store (look for the My Country link at the bottom of the main iTunes Store page; I presume you are since you say some tracks do show the ringtone icon). If both are correct, you can contact the iTunes Store Customer Service department using the form on their Contact page and explain the problem to them. Note that it's entirely possible that the owner of the tracks in question may have withdrawn permission for Apple to sell them as ringtones; such things do happen from time to time.
    Good luck.

  • Ringtones purchased from ITunes not going into ringtones section of IPhone4

    Hi,
I already looked through previous answers around this topic, but didn't have any joy. One posting suggested creating a ringtone by rightclicking on the item in my library, but the option isnt there.
I purchased 4 ringtones (not music for use as a ringtone) on I Tunes, and sync'd the phone, so they are in my i-pod library - but not in the ringtones drop-down list. I tried dragging and dropping them on I Tunes on my computer, but this hasnt worked either..... help! I am in the UK so I am not entitled to the call-back service from Apple.
    Thanks

"I purchased 4 ringtones (not music for use as a ringtone) on I Tunes,"
If this is so, then they should be under the "Ringtones" section under "Library" in itunes.
I think you purchased the song ( sound file) which still needs to be made into a ringtone. There are many free ways to do this.
    Google will find them.

  • Recovered purchased songs don't go into purchased playlist

I dutifully used iTunes to backup my purchased songs. Worked like a charm and was able to recover them no problem. Well, one small problem. They came back into the general library but did not go into the Purchased playlist.
Any ideas on how to fix this?
    T.

I just created a regular playlist titled: -purchased old. Then I sorted by type to get all of the protected songs in a group and dragged them to the playlist. Another option would be to use a smartlist that constantly pulls purchased songs in by type (I think that's an option).

  • Purchased songs cant be located?

My computer crashed and was repaired. My Itunes and photos were able to be saved, but some of my songs say they can't be located.  When I go to ITunes store and look at my purchased songs they are there, but I can't play or sync them on my devices.  I am having the same issue with several songs that I had downloaded years ago from my own CD's.  Any suggestions on how to correct this?

This happened to me once. I keep my song files on an external hard drive - and forgot to turn it on. iTunes went looking for my music and couldn't find it.
When this happens, you'll need to go into your preferences and set your "iTunes Music Folder" back to the the original setting (for me, on the external drive).

  • How do I get my previous purchased songs from itunes back into my library?

I was trying to sync new music onto my iPod Nano and somehow removed my previous purchased songs from my library.  I can see the old songs in my account but not my library.  How can I retrieve my purchased old songs and place them back in my library with my new songs?

Axeman 1020 you are the BEST!!!!!!  Thank you sooooooo much!!!!!  It worked!  I am so excited if you can't tell.  I was really frustrated over this.  Thank you again

  • Why Why Why cant i use a "purchased" song from Itunes as my ringtonE???

Other phones have had this feature for years.....

Get ready to be robbed cause that is exactly what is going to happen. Sounds like we're going to be charged 99 cents to "convert" any 30 second segment of a song we've already purchased to a custom ringtone (so probably won't work with MP3s you've ripped from your own CD collection).
The problem is this: As long as AT&T has an exclusive on the iPhone, expect to pay for things that we shouldn't. This is why we don't allow monopolies, cause it stifles innovation from lack of competition. Right now we're fish-in-a-barrel to AT&T and if they're dumb and greedy, they will abuse it. If they are smart, they'll treat us well, otherwise once their exclusive-carrier deal ends, people will beat feet over to other carriers. It remains to be seen if AT&T takes advantage of this opportunity to really build some customer loyalty, or if all their interested in is some nice juicy profits for 5 years at the expense of customer retention...

  • Can you sync a previously purchased song and make it a ringtone?

There are many songs I purchased that can now be used as a ringtone. Can somoeone tell me whether I can use these songs and, if so, how do I sync them to my iPhone and edit them for a ringtone? I tried to click and drag a song into the "Ringtones" folder, but that did not work. ALSO, if you tell me I have to purchase the song AGAIN, what if the song is an ALBUM CUT? Thanks!!

The same thing happened to me. I clicked on ADVANCED (or if not Advanced check the other options up there-but I believe it was the advanced folder) at the top of the iTunes screen and clicked on *"authorize this computer"* and all I had to do was re-type my password and voila. My computer was "authorized".
    Hope this helps.

  • Can no longer be made into a ringtone

I purchased Jump by Van Halen even though I already own the song from a cd. When I tried to make a ring tone (it has a bell by it in itunes store and my library) it tells me "Jump by Van Halen can no longer be made into a ringtone".
I can not find a link on Apple's support site to ask them. Any help?
    Lee

  • Five minutes later"this song can no longer be made into a ringtone"

I downloaded a song that had the bell next to it. Five minutes later, it's downloaded, and I click the bell icon to make my ringtone. A box popped up that said "this song cannot be made into a ringtone- this song can no longer be made into a ringtone"
What's up with that??? I already had this song in my library. I only downloaded it again so that I could make the ringtone, and now it won't work. Anybody know what to do??
    Thanks, Kelly

I am having the SAME issue - I just bought a song 2 days ago that clearly had the bell icon next to it. Right after downloading the song I clicked "create ringtone" and received the same error message "this song can no longer be made into a ringtone". SO I called iPhone - they can't help...so I emailed iTunes and I am getting the total run around. I clearly explained this issue to which they have replied with FAQs on ringtones and articles on how to download ringtones, duh. I re-authorized my computer, restarted it, on and on...still nothing. It seems like iTunes support wants to ignore my true problem and just keep running me around in circles.

  • "...can no longer be made into a ringtone" why not, I ask

I purchased a song on itunes today (a song that I already owned!) for the purpose of creating a ringtone.
Went to the Purchased folder, highlighted the song, selected "create ringtone", had to login to itunes store again, clicked Buy...then I was presented with a window:
*This song cannot be made into a ringtone:*
"wheres your head at" by Basement Jaxx can no longer be made into a ringtone
What gives? How can I fix this issue? Using itunes version 7.4.1.2

That song can not be a ringtone. Not all songs have been authorized by their owners for use with ringtones. Its a nuance of copyright law.
However, iTunes has been updating this information all day so it may become available in the future.

  • Purchased song to create ringtone that after purchase, was not an option!

I purchased a song on iTunes specifically to create a ringtone, but when I tried to do this, it said "this song can no longer be made into a ringtone". Can they not tell you this before you purchase the song?? When I went back to the iTune store to find resolution, it said you had to click on view options to see a "bell" next to the song indicating it can be made into a ringtone. The "view options" was not "highlighted" for me to choose this option!
I bought 2 songs that can not be made into ringtones......is there another option??

Yes. You must install anti virus software in Windows. Microsoft has a free good anti virus program for download. It is Security Essentials and is available on the microsoft site.

  • HT4759 Why when I got my new computer now using windows 8. I lost all my playlists and my purchased song list. Im missing so much music....I downloaded Itunes onto the new computer, I logged into my account w/ my apple ID expecting all my stuff to be as i

My issue is just with itunes....not my ipod... Ive been afraid to plug my ipod in to charge it incase it automatically sincs with the Itunes I have now on my new computer since this itunes is empty of my purchased songs and self made playlists. I dont want my ipod erased! I just dont understand why I cant get someone on the phone with their support service with out a serial number?! Itunes does not have a serial number that I can find. I just want my account to be as it was on my old computer. I very much dont want to lose all my music

From the OP: "My old computer got a virus and when that happened all my music was lost. "
They don't have the music on their computer so they cannot transfer the iTunes folder, from the computer to their iPod and then to the new computer. And if they try to enable disk use on the iPod it will erase all the music that is on it. The method you cited is moving the files in a data format using the iPod as a flash drive. It doesn't work if they are in music format. That is why I suggested Yamipod.
