Purchased Used Laptop - can't update it now

I purchased a Macbook Air from a college student, and went to the Apple Store where I made the actual purchase.  The Genius bar guys helped me put the computer in my name, change the Apple ID to me, and they also updated the Apple computer file and listed me as the new owner.  I then purchased the extended warranty since the original warranty was still good, but about to expire.  So far, so good.  But I now have "udpates available" and when I try to update Safari, and iPhoto is tells me I have the wrong Apple ID, and it lists the guy who purchased the computer new.   There has to be someway to update the computer that I purchased from him.    Any help would be appreciated.  I never would have purchased the computer if I could not update the software on it.   But the student was in need of a different computer, and so it worked out for both of us.

What if my ipod touch 4th generation can't update and now the only option is to restore it.
And i don't know what happens if i press restore?
Will it show my back up and back it up or what?
And if that does happen will all my pictures stil be there?
Also i'm not on a apple computer.

    To restore from backup see:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
Either a PC or Mac work the same.
The photos in our iPod's Camera Roll album will be restored as will the last 30 days of photos in our PhotoStream album

  • I have broadband connected to laptop can i update all my apps connecting to itunes intalled in my laptop

i have broadband connected to laptop can i update all my apps connecting to itunes intalled in my laptop

You can download app updates on your computer's iTunes and then sync those updates to your device(s) - that is the computer that you sync the device(s) to ?
When you connect a device to a computer's iTunes, then on its Apps tab you should be able to scroll through the listbox of apps and click the 'Update' button next to the apps that have updates on your computer that you want to sync to the device, and then click the Apply/Sync button bottom right of the screen.

  • TS1424 My app store shows different apple Id. I changed the ID in general settings under app store. Still no changes. Can't update apps now

Apps store on my iPad shows different apple ID. I changed the ID under general settings for apps store, but it didn't help. Still see different ID when entering the store. Now I can't update apps and resetting iPad doesn't help. What to do?

Use the correct login/password that the app was purchased with.

  • Can't update Apps, now getting new error message

It's been weeks since I've been able to update my Apps on either my iPod touch, or from iTunes. In iTunes previously, it would say that there were updates available, but then when I clicked on Update it would tell me that there were no updates available, now I'm getting a new error message that says "You can not update this software since you have not owned the major version of this software." WHAT???? These are mostly free apps, and the others I paid for. I'm so tired of this. And on my iPod touch I get "Can not connect to the iTunes store," even though I can make purchases, download podcasts, etc. Any ideas. Thanks so much.

it's strange because not all update have this issue. I can update some free and paid apps ( over 10 update was succeful) and few (4-5)others have this problem and cannot be updated. Itunes didnt been updated since beginning of this issue.
For the free one who cannot be updated, i just deleted already owned in itunes and re-downloaded updated version again without any problem. But for my paid apps, i will need to wait That apple fix it.
I googled and i see this problem already happen in 2007 or 2008 but i just found problem report, no solution. I will try to spend couple minute to find out on google and try to call apple or contact apple expert on the web there tomorrow: http://www.apple.com/support/expert/ and come back to tell what they said. If someone found please post !!

Honestly, it sounds to me like you got beat. You can try using recovery mode to restore the iPad, but then I'm wondering if you will be able to activate the iPad anyway if the previous owner didn't erase his iCloud account and totally wipe the device before selling it to you.

  • HT4623 How can I up date my iPhone, when you go into settings and click on general there should pop up a thing that says update between about and usage  it does not have it and I can't update it now

How can I update my iPhone, when I go  into settings and click on general something should pop up between usage and about that says up but it does not and my iPhone needs to be updated.

  • TS1424 IOS 6 update completed.  Can't update apps now because I get warning stating "Your account is not valid for use in the Japanese store.  You must switch to the U.S. store before purchase."  How do I switch back?

Ysterday I updated to the new IOS6 on my Iphone 4.  The phone service is provided by the Softbank carrier in Japan but I am an American and my Itunes account is U.S.  After the update I get this warning when trying to install app updates "Your account is not valid for use in the Japanese store.  You must switch to the U.S. store before purchase."  This is something that must have occured during the the IOS6 install so my question is how do I get my Iphone 4 to recognize the U.S. store again?

Open the App Store and tap "featured", go down untill you see your Apple ID... enter there and tap "View Apple ID"... it should automatically ask you if you want to switch the store. Switch and thats all.

  • HT4972 I'm trying to update my iphone 3G to ios5 - however in Itunes when I 'check for updates' it is advising me that I have the latest version (4.2.1). Hence I can't update and now I can't run a few of the apps I previously used. Help!

Following a backup and restore of my iphone 3g I have lost the use of a number of apps - this seems to be as they need ios5 or later to support them and I only have 4.2.1
When I check for updates via itunes I am advised that I have the latest version - but clearly I don't.
Any help gratefully received on how I can upgrade to ios5
    Yally

Sadly, the iPhone 3G can not be upgraded beyond iOS 4.2.1.

  • HT4991 Using keynote and stop updating for now

And i need to use the keynote now and it says waiting and i can't open it or use it, how can i stop the waiting of downloading and resume later

Before you do any of the resets below try this first.
Press and hold both the Sleep/Wake button and the Home  button for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
Here are the descriptions for the different reset settings:
Resetting iPad Reset all settings:  Choose General > Reset, then tap Reset All Settings. All your preferences and settings are reset. Information, such as your contacts and calendars, and media, such as your songs and videos, aren't deleted.
Erase all content and settings:  Choose General > Reset, then tap “Erase All Content and Settings.” This resets all settings to their original values and erases all your information  and media.
Reset network settings:  Choose General > Reset, then tap Reset Network Settings. When you reset network settings, your list of previously used networks and VPN settings not installed by a configuration profile are removed. Wi-Fi is turned off and then back on, disconnecting you from any network you're on. The Wi-Fi and “Ask to Join Networks” settings remain turned on. To remove VPN settings installed by a configuration profile, choose Settings > General > Profile, then select the profile and tap Remove.
Reset the keyboard dictionary:  Choose General > Reset, then tap Reset Keyboard Dictionary. You add words to the keyboard dictionary by rejecting words iPad suggests as you type. Tap a word to reject the correction and add the word to the keyboard dictionary. Resetting the keyboard dictionary erases all words you've added.
Reset the Home screen layout:  Choose General > Reset, then tap Reset Home Screen Layout.
Reset the location warnings:  Choose General > Reset, then tap Reset Location Warnings.

  • 9.1.3 to 9.1.4 - can we update EXPRESS now?

    I am opperating LOGIC EXPRESS ver 9.1.3 (32 bit) --- So, I uploaded the 146MB LogicExpress9.1.4Update.dmg from http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2567
    NO GO:
When I tried to dbl-click/activate the Installer package, I only get an alert with the message, "An eligible Logic Express Version was not found in the Applications Folder. This Update requires Logic Express version 9.0 or higher."
    Any ideas?

SOLUTION:   (found on an old post)
Logic Express needed to be seen as "Logic Express.app" and not "Logic Express 9.0.0" or similar.
Mine initially installed as LOGIC EXPRESS 9.1.3 -- SO...  I dropped the 9.1.3, and added ".app" and PRESTO!!!    done

  • I just bought my second ipad2 can I update these units on the same laptop ?

Hi I just purchased my second ipad2, I set them up on individual laptops with individual Apple ID's. When I go on trips and take one laptop can I update both ipads off of one computer with indiviual ID's Or do I have to take 2 laptops with me? I hope this makes sence.

You can update apps on each iPad without a computer so that is a no brainer. You don't need a computer at all - just a WiFi connection.
If you want to update iOS software on the iPads - you may be able to do that prior to syncing IF you turn off auto syncing in iTunes but I'm not totally sure about that.
Each iPad is tied to it's own iTunes account and library so there is no way of switching back and forth for syncing purposes.
Bottom line - why do you need the computer at all if the "trips" are not overextended trips. I appreciate the importance of regularly syncing and keeping things updated but if you are going to take 2 iPads and a laptop on a trip that sort of throws the whole "portable and lightweight" idea out the window and sounds more like a pain in the azz to me.
One possibilty would have been is to create multiple iTunes libraries on one computer.
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/inside-itunes/2011/01/keeping-multiple-itunes-librar ies-on-a-single-computerif-you-share-your-computer-with-others-and-you.html
I would assume if you do this you could log in with the separate accounts and keep each iPad updated.

  • App Store can't update - Account Not In This Store

Dear all, I hope someone could help me out here.
I've tried updating all my apps on App Store, but none of them can be updated. Now, I have over 80+ apps waiting to be updated.
The problem here is that whenever I tried to update, my iPhone 5 will prompt "Your account is not valid for use in the US store. You must switch to Singapore store before purchasing". I have tried changing all locations to Singapore, but this issue still exists.
I'm using iOS 6.1.4. Can someone please help?
    Thank you.
    Nickeldoor

I was having the same problem and after applying a lot of solutions I've seen here none of them worked for me so what I did was to download the application (for iPad or iPhone) to my notebook and after that perform the synchronization between the notebook and the (iPad or iPhone) that updated the apps in the iPad without error message.
    Hope this works!

  • HT1338 os x 10.5 can't update anything

My Mac is OS X 10.5.8, and I can not update anything now.
How should I do? Should I need upgrade my Mac?
    Thanks~~

Upgrade Paths to Snow Leopard, Lion, and/or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard — Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
               terms apply.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service — this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion — System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) —
                 Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
    Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table — RoaringApps.
