Purchasing a Macbook Pro

Hello everyone,
I have decided I am going to purchase a Mackbook Pro after years of being a PC user.   Cant wait, and have been learning as much as possible before making the transition.
My friend just turned me off by saying..."Why dont you wait until July when they bring out a new model"....sigh
I love my ipad, and have the ipad air now, but they change every time we blink.
I dont fancy doing the same thing all over with a note book.  They are expensive and I want it to last.  So my question is, why do Apple continually change everything??  Will I be making a mistake if I buy now?  How long can I expect it to last?
Sorry if I sound a bit odd, but I cant wait to buy one, and now find myself second guessing.

No, you wont not be making a mistake, and many years down the road, used Macbooks fetch a LOT on Ebay, as you can see for yourself.
Typically costs are 20 cents per day, there is no set "age" , average is 5 to 6 years or MORE
nothing fetches more money than an "old" Mac online, prices for much older machines is amazing.
Ive got machines working fine 12+ years old stacked up in the basement.
Just get a home owners policy etc. for theft, loss, accidents, so you can be covered no matter what long into the future,  anything and everything can be fixed for usually 10+ years......so....
The newest Macbooks JUST came out,.....if you always say "wait for another model", then youll never buy and enjoy anything.
Jump into the Mac experience and then post questions here for speedy replies and help
Peace
