Purchasing a Ringtone in Itunes

I just purchased a song in Itunes with the intent of using it as a ringtone. After I bought and Paid for the song and tried to apply it I received a message that "this song is no longer available as a ringtone", My question is this: Is there a way to verify whether a song is available as a ringtone BEFORE I buy the song so I don't wind up wasting .99 cents in the 1st situation. Thx.

MAKE YOUR OWN RINGTONES!
Ironically, moments before seeing your post I had just spent some time making ringtones for my iPhone - it's SUPER easy!
(I'm using iTunes 9.2 and an iPhone 3Gs running iOS4)
All my iTunes music is owned. I merely find the song I want a piece of, listen and determine the :30 seconds I want ...
• GET INFO on the song (command+i)
• Select the OPTIONS tab at the top of the window that pops open
• Set the START TIME and STOP TIME of the song (you can define hundredths of a second if you wish), hit [OK]
• Go to iTunes menu bar at very top of your screen, select ADVANCED
• CREATE AAC VERSION (this must be previously defined in iTunes' CD Import Settings preference)
• iTunes will generate your new, :30 second AAC version of the song
• Drag this new :30 second version onto your desktop
• Change filename from .m4a to .m4r, confirm this in the dialog box that will appear
• The song you just dragged onto desktop should still be highlighted within iTunes (be sure to be in iTunes, not Finder) - press the DELETE key, hit REMOVE, hit MOVE TO TRASH ... that :30 second duplicate file is now gone from within iTunes.
• Remember to reset your original song's START TIME and STOP TIME by deselecting the boxes
• Click on the RINGTONES library icon in iTunes (below Apps, above Radio)
• Drag the new .m4r file from your desktop and plop it in your RINGTONES library
• Sync your iPhone
• Go into iPhone's Settings > Sounds > Ringtone
POOF! You've got home-made ringtones!
NOTE: It takes longer to read the above info than to actually make the ringtone. Once you've done it a couple of times, it'll be really fast. The most difficult part is deciding which :30 seconds of the song you want to use!
ONE LAST NOTE: Your iPhone's ringer will likely only have a :20 second duration. See this link on how to extend it to :30 seconds. Again, super-easy!

  • I purchased 3 ringtones from itunes.  It did not put them under ringtones on my phone.  It is under purchases.  How can I get them under ringtones for iphone 5?

I purchased 3 ringtones in Itunes.  It put one under ringtones and the others listed under music icon as recently purchased.  How do I get them under ringtones?

Tones is the new name for Ringtones. If the entry is missing in the left-hand column of iTunes then enable it from Edit > Preferences > General tab.
If your existing tones are not syncing properly to your iOS device then uncheck the option to Sync Tones from the Tones tab when the device is connected, sync the device, check the option and sync again.

  • HT201272 I purchased a ringtone from itunes store on my I phone 5 but cannot find how to assign it to my ringtone

I purchased a ringtone from itunes store on my iphone5 but cannot find how to assign it as my ringtone. Can anyone offer suggestions please

    Help again! lol
tonight I tried to download a ringtone to my iPhone 5.  Picked out the one I wanted, clicked on "buy" and was asked for my p/w & if I wanted to assign it to a contact.  Yes, entered correct p/w & yes.  NO DOWNLOAD - it doesn't show up in my Ringtones under "Sounds" or "Text Tones" and a search of my phone doesn't show it.  So, even though my balance was subtracted the cost, I tried again....still doesn't show up on the phone OR in iTunes on my iMac or iPad - and I was charged for it again!!   ETA: It doesn't even show up in recent purchases.?!?
iMatch is turned on in all devices and I noticed that in iTunes on my iMac, there is NO tab for "Ringtones" or "Tones" in the top menu across my iTunes screen....however, in my library on the Mac there IS a line item for ringtones, but it's empty when I click on it.  This is the 2nd ringtone I've purchased that doesn't show up; thrtefore I cannot use either one but have been charged for both...GRRR
I also noticed tonight that a lot of my options in my Library on the Mac are "grayed out" so I can't even get into them. Yes, I'm signed in & all devices are
authorized.  Can't even sync my iPhone & yes I checked that it's marked on both devices.  *sigh*
What do I need to do?  The closest Apple store is over an hour away from me.  Should I reset iTunes or the iPhone (or both)?  Not really what I want to do on my long weekend now that I'm finally down to 2 jobs 6 days a week!
TIA for any help anyone can give me!
(BTW, it turned out the other ringtone I'd purchased on 12/1/11 was no longer available (3rd ringtone - actually 1st so the ones in this question are #'s 2 & 3), and Apple was kind enough to give me some free songs.)

  • HT1386 I have a new iPhone and want to purchase a ringtone on iTunes.  It keeps asking for answers to a question that I did not set up and don't have the answer for.  How do I get pass this dilemma?

I have a new iphone and want to purchase ringtones from itunes.  Itunes is asking answers for security questions I did not set up and I can't answer them.  How do I get past this to be able to purchase.  I can purchase songs on my MAC and sync but itunes doesn't give the option to purchase ringtones on the MAC, just the iphone.

If the email hasn't arrived after a few hours and isn't in a spam filter, you need to ask Apple to reset your security questions; this can be done by phoning AppleCare and asking for the Account Security team, or clicking here and picking a method, or if your country isn't listed in either article, filling out and submitting this form.
They wouldn't be security questions if they could be bypassed without Apple verifying your identity.

I've read everything I can in the manual. The only thing I saw was ringtones are located in your music library.

    I am Gigi,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
Did you purchase the ringtone from your iPhone?  The article below will explain what should have happened when you did.  If you are still not able to access this purchase, I've included a link to the iTunes Store Support team for you.
The article below will explain where to find the ringtone you purchased on your iPhone and how to assign it to a Contact:
iTunes: Using the iTunes Store for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1491
    Tones
You can't purchase ringtones and alert tones from your computer, but you can purchase them using your iOS device with iOS 5 or later. You can purchase tones on iPad, iPhone (3GS or later), and iPod touch (4th generation or later).
To locate tones in iTunes on an iOS device:
    Tap the iTunes Store app.
Tap Tones. If Tones isn't visible, tap More > Tones.
Browse for tones. Once you purchase a tone, a dialog appears.
Choose to set your new tone as your default ringtone or assign it to a contact. If you don't want to do anything with the tone, tap Done.
Tones you purchase using your iOS device sync to your iTunes library when you connect your device to your computer. You can find tones on your device in Settings > Sounds.   In the Sounds and Vibration Patterns section, tap on Ringtone.  Then scroll to the top of the list to see your custom ringtones.
If you don't assign a ringtone at the time you purchase it, you can always add it to a contact later:
Set a special ringtone for a contact - Phone - iPhone Basics - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TI16
In Contacts, choose a contact, tap Edit, then tap Ringtone. Select the ringtone you'd like to hear when that person calls.
    Download past purchases
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519
    Audiobooks, ringtones, and tones
If you made a backup of these items on your Mac or PC, you can sync the itemsto your iOS device. You can't download these items again from iTunes in the Cloud.

  • I purchased ringtones on iTunes and they do not appear on my iPhone.

I recently purchased a few ringtones and alerts on iTunes through my iPhone.  I had them for about a day until I sync'ed my phone to my computer and now the ringtones are stuck in my iTunes and can't seem to transfer them to my iPhone.  Anybody know what I'm talking about here?

First make sure your computer is authorized for the Apple ID used to purchase the ringtones (under iTunes Store>Authorize this computer).  If it is authorized and the ringtones still won't sync, try alterting the tag associated with the rigntone: right-click on the rigntone and select Get Info, on the Info tap change the Artist Name, click Done and try syncing again.

  • Cannot purchase ringtones through iTunes

For some reason iTunes will not let me purchase ringtones any longer. Has anyone else experienced this problem? It syncs fine with my iPhone and everything else seems to be working fine. I'm able to create a customized ringtone then when I hit the buy button nothing happens.
I guess Apple doesn't want my money...
If I would delete and then reinstall iTunes will I lose all the songs, movies, applications and everything else?

I have the same exact problem. I have even purchased a ringtone on Itunes from my phone. It went through and I got the email confirmation, bt it only shows up in my Ipod part of the IPhone. Nowhere does it show up in my ringtones. With all of this technology and money being charged, I should atleast be able to get a live person to fix the proble. Does anybody know how to help? When you go to the song to report the problem, nothing happens there either. I am confussed??? Love the phone though:-)

  • I just purchased a ringtone , how to get it to my phone?

I just purchased a ringtone from itunes. how do  i get it to my iphone?

Where is it now?  If it's in your iTunes library, sync it to your phone from the Tones tab of your iTunes sync settings.

  • Transfer purchase music/ringtones from computer to Iphone?

I purchased several ringtones by Itunes 6-9 months ago. Did the backup method on my authorized computer/ restored the phone. Everything (apps and songs) downloaded except a few of my recent ringtones. Contacted Itunes by phone who suggest to service fee for their assistance which was more expensive than the total of ringtones I lost. They are available on my computer still but I cant find a way to synch them back to the phone with others. Any suggestions?

Go to the rigtones tab after highlighting the iPhone under devices and check the box "Sync Ringtones" and also choose the "All ringtones" radio button and then click apply at the bottom right hand corner and sync. See if that helps.

  • Purchased Content:  Ringtones

    Hello,
I am a new iPhone user and I am very frustrated at the moment.
I purchased some ringtones from iTunes. They were clearly labled as ringtones and a bell was displayed next to them. They went into the "Purchased" folder in iTunes under the "Store" section on the left (did not show up in the "Ringtones" section). I synced my phone and now those items are in the iPod, but do not show up in Settings/Ringtones. I don't see any option in the iPod to set them as ringtones. I reviewed my sync options to make sure "All Ringtones" is checked and it is.
I also tried moving the items from "Purchased" over to "Ringtones" in iTunes, but I guess that isn't an option.
I went back into iTunes on my computer and decided to poke around after seeing some posts about having to create ringtones. I right-clicked on one of the ringtones and selected "Create Ringtone." I then dragged the sliders to the 30 second mark to "create" my ringtone (I had to shave 5 seconds). Once finished, the only option I saw was "Buy." I expected to see something like "Create." I already bought it so now I am really confused. Why would I have to buy it again?
Is there something I am doing wrong here? I have searched the user manuals for the iPhone and the iPod Touch for iPhone. I cannot find anything that is helpful to me. I just want to use my purchased ringtones. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Yes, the steps to making a ringtone in iTunes are:
    1. Purchase a ringtone eligible song.
    2. Open the ringtone editor and create your ringtone.
    3. Purchase the ringtone.
So the ringtone will cost you a total of $1.98 ($2.28 if it's an iTunes Plus song), which is less than most carriers charge you for a ringtone, and you do not usually get to choose the clip as you do with iTunes.
