Purchasing After Effects

I have a Mac OSX 10.5.8 and I am having trouble finding the right version of AE to purchase.  The latest version of After Effects is not compatible with my system and I am unable to find earlier versions to purchase.  Can someone please help?  Do I need to upgrade my computer in order to get the latest version of AE?
Andrew

I am unable to find earlier versions to purchase.
Other than used copies there are none. Adobe and all authorised resellers no longer sell legacy versions.
Do I need to upgrade my computer in order to get the latest version of AE?
Yes. CS6 requires at least OSX 10.6.8.

  • Purchase After Effects via creative cloud but could not install

I've purchase after effects via educators plan .. however it seems after effects cant be downloaded altho its in the plan.
So I have paid extra for single app... and yet its the same.
I click on download but nothing appear. The app does not appear on the manager as well.
    HELP Me.
I really need to use after effects.. i need to do a video animation like the 'annoying orange' via after effects.  is there any other adobe apps that i can do the same effects?

You need a 64-bit computer and operating system to run After Effects. Does your system meet the Tech Specs http://www.adobe.com/products/aftereffects/tech-specs.html?

  • I purchased After Effects but still have limitations?

I have purchased after effects and entered a valid serial number, but I am still stuck with the trial limitations?
    Trial limitations
Due to licenses of various codecs, several formats are not supported in the trial version of After Effects CS5, limiting some of the features available in the trial. Formats not supported in the trial include AVC-Intra, AVCHD, Canon XF, HDV, and XDCAM. Also, certain formats, such as MPEG-2, MPEG-2 DVD, and MPEG-2 Blu-ray, cannot be exported from the trial version. For details, visit the Help Resource Center.
Some third-party plug-ins, such as Imagineer Systems mocha and mocha shape, Foundry Keylight, CycoreFX, Synthetic Aperture Color Finesse LE, fnord ProEXR, and Digieffects FreeForm, are not included in the trial version of After Effects.
If you decide to purchase After Effects CS5 after the trial period, support for these codecs and plug-ins will automatically be added via a simple update once you enter a valid serial number.
    The last part quotes
If you decide to purchase After Effects CS5 after the trial period, support for these codecs and plug-ins will automatically be added via a simple update once you enter a valid serial number.
Well when I put my serial key in it had a green check mark, and when I go to HELP> UPDATES it says all my programs are up to date..

What specific limitations do you see in After Effects after you entered the serial number?
Are you having problems importing any files of the protected formats?  Problems exporting?
Here are a couple of things you can check to see whether or not the protected content is installed:
    * Add a comp to the Render Queue and open the Output Module settings.  Is MPEG2-DVD an available format?
    * In the Effects & Presets panel, or the Effect menu, is Synthetic Aperture > Color Finesse available?

  • Can one purchase After Effects as a Standalone Product?

I have Adobe Premier Pro CS4 which includes Encore,
Media Encoder, On Location and Bridge.
I would like to also add After Effects to this Package. Can it be purchased by itself?

Thanks Todd. Rather expensive. My wish list :
One package that includes ONLY the following :
    1.. Premier Pro
    2.. Bridge
    3.. Media Encoder
    4.. Encore
    5.. After Effects
    and thats all.
I do not wish for Photoshop, Dreamweaver etc etc.
    Ah well one can wish.

  • Purchasing After Effects System

    Hello Everyone,
Im purchasing a new system mainly for print photoshop and design work. However, i want to break into motion graphics so i would like a system that can handle After Effects well so that i can learn the ropes. I checked out a basic single processor quad core 2.66 at the mac store and it handled a 2Gig photoshop file no problem. So that system would be comfortable for that purpose.
My question is, how comfortable would learning be on the following system. After Effects is a lot to learn and i want to be able to explore the effects and preview without wasting lots of time but i also want to be reasonable.
    Quad-Core
One 2.66GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon "Nehalem" processor
    8GB
NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 with 512MB
I know its the low end but i thought it would be great for someone to learn After Effects on. Please note that i would probably get frustrated with a slow system and this would dampen my motivation to learn After Effects. I just dont want to wait twenty minutes just to see what a filter would do.
    thanks in advance.

The specs you've posted are well within the requirements to run After Effects reliably.
    Some other considerations:
Video applications use a lot more hard drive space than PSDs, especially if you work with lossless files.  Get a nice big hard drive to store your footage on.  A 1.5 Terabyte SATA drive is  below US $150 these days.
Video applications work best when the project resources (footage etc) are stored on a separate drive to the OS and application.  So ideally you should have at least two drives accessible to the system:  a system drive for the OS and applications, and a fast resources drive to store your footage and other resources for PS and After Effects.  If you plan to work in high definition resolutions, you may need to consider RAIDing multiple drives to increase your drive I/O capabilities.
I can't imagine doing a lot of work in AE without lots of screen real estate.  If your budget permits, consider dual monitors - it will make Photoshop AND AE much easier to work with.

  • Is Media Encoder free after buying After Effects or you have to purchase it separately?

Hello, I was just about to purchase After Effects on the single application list, and noticed I couldn't find Media Encoder there. So I was wondering if I had to purchase Media encoder separately? If so how can I buy it?
    Thanks in Advance,
    Mattew

Media Encoder is tied to using another program. It's not avialable separately.

  • Having Trouble Downloading After Effects VIA the Cloud.

So I purchased Adobe AFter Effects through the cloud on a month to month basis. I had just finished the free trail and decied I needed to download it.
I then dowloaded the free trail of Creative Cloud just to see how the layout was etc. Then I purchased After Effects on Creative Cloud.
After I recieve my e-mail telling me my purchase had gone through etc etc. I logged in to Creative Cloud and tried to download AE.
The Adobe Apllication Manager window opens and I selected After Effects again but it doesn't do anything? On the left side (where it should say download or try) it says Up To Date.(picture included below).
I checked my computer just to make sure it hadn't downloaded and it's not there. I have a feeling this whole issue has to do with the free trail I was on?
Anyway, it's Saturday and Adobe's phone support is not open and I'll be wasting two whole days of my month to month plan if I can't get it downloaded
Anyone have any ideas as to what I'm diong wrong here, or what I should do to resolve the problem??
    Thanks...

Log out of AAM, clean the SLStore folder as expalined here:

  • After Effects - how to get it separately???

Hi, I am a student, purchased the CS6 package for a fortune appr. 1 year ago. I would like to use AfterEffects - and I have just realized that adobe discontinued selling products separately.  Is there any way to purchase After Effects only? After spending heaps of money on a package of softwares I would not like to buy everything all over again with buying a subscription for everything... Please advise what to do. Thank you.

Just what "CS6 package" did you purchase... and are you sure After Effects is not included in what you have? (did you install everything?)
If the package you purchased did not include After Effects, look at Creative Suite 6

Adobe have officially announced the upcoming Creative Suite 4 group of products, including
    After Effects CS4,
    CS4 Production Premium bundle, and
    CS4 Master Collection.
After Effects CS4 Top New Features
b Live Adobe Photoshop 3D layers import
Import Adobe® Photoshop® 3D layers into Adobe After Effects® CS4, move them, animate cameras around them, adjust lighting, and composite them with other elements.
b Searchable timelines and projects and easier nested comp navigation
Locate any element in a comp or project with the new QuickSearch. Quickly navigate between nested comps with the new Mini-Flowchart.
b Compositions exported as layered projects
Export compositions as layered, XFL format projects that can be opened and edited in Adobe Flash® CS4 Professional software. Many After Effects assets such as text and Adobe Illustrator® artwork are preserved as vectors.
b Integrated workflow for mobile device authoring
Select devices in Adobe Device Central and automatically set up an After Effects project that targets those devices, with settings that match the targeted devices and the Render Queue setup to output to the proper codecs and resolutions.
b Numerous interface and workflow tweaks
Work more efficiently with dozens of user-requested changes, including the new Auto Resolution setting that only renders visible pixels when zooming in and out of a comp view, streamlined memory and multicore processing preferences, and more.
b Dynamic Link between Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, and Soundbooth
Using Adobe Creative Suite® 4 Production Premium software, now link Adobe Premiere® Pro sequences to an After Effects composition and After Effects comps to Adobe Soundbooth® with Adobe Dynamic Link.
    b Independent keyframing of x, y, z values, plus 3D compositing improvements
Composite in 3D space more easily: Keyframe x, y, and z position values separately, and use the new unified camera, which makes the After Effects camera tool work more like those in 3D modeling applications.
    b Cartoon effect
Instantly give live footage the look of cell animation. Stylize video by reducing the color palette of a clip and by emphasizing edges.
b Mocha for Adobe After Effects from Imagineer Systems
Use this powerful 2.5D planar tracking application from Imagineer Systems to track the motion of elements even in challenging shots where elements move offscreen or where there is motion blur or excessive grain.
b XMP metadata for asset intelligence
Now retain asset metadata while you work in After Effects. Add new project-, comp-, and layer-level metadata to streamline project tracking, and automate asset auditing and many other tasks.

There's a list of the big new features in the
"New features in After Effects CS4" section of After Effects CS4 Help on the Web, and you can read about every little change to the UI in the
"User interface changes from After Effects CS3 to After Effects CS4" section.
But I thought that all of you who have posted requests to this wishlist might like to get specific responses to some of the items on this list.
First of all, though, I'd like to point out an innovative set of features that I think addresses a request that many of you have made... just not exactly as you asked for it. All of us have wanted a better way to see into and navigate among nested compositions (precompositions). The Composition Mini-Flowchart and Composition Navigator make moving around in a complex project much, much faster and easier. Telling you to see the
"Opening and navigating nested compositions" section isn't going to do this feature set justice. You'll only appreciate how slick this is when you get your hands on it.
Oh, and we reversed the behavior of double-clicking versus Option-double-clicking a precomposition layer: Now double-clicking opens the source composition in the Composition panel, not the precomposition layer in the Layer panel.
Now, on to the specific responses...

We've had features for using the pen dynamics with the paint tools for a while. See

That said, we've made some improvements under the hood that should make using a pen better (e.g., modifying the sensitivity during certain click and drag operations).

    Navarro Parker:
    > I'd love AE projects to be searchable. Having the ability to search for comp names or source footage

Done, as long as you have the means to search within XML files. The new XML project file format opens up a lot of scripting possibilities, too.

Though we did add "more stuff", we also spent a lot of time polishing the application this time. The number of small tweaks to address pain points was very large.

  • How to install After Effects CS5.5(64-bit) with After Effects CS4 installer(32bit)?

I have purchased After Effects CS5.5 unknowingly it is only for 64 bit system. My system is 32 bit. When I read a Adobe help page I got to knew that 32 bit users can install AE CS5 and above with help of a AE CS4 installer. Please help me how to do this.My system specs are:
    Windows 7 32-bit
Intel Core i3 3.2 Ghz processor
    2 GB ram

In this page: http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/cs6-32bit.html they tells that:"The support package installs CS4 versions of the Adobe applications to assist users who were transitioning to a 64-bit OS.If you currently have the CS4 32-bit installer and serial number, you can deploy without any additional steps." I didn't understand properly. Plz refer the page and tell me what it means.

  • Is it possible to download older versions of After Effects?

I downloaded the adobe master collection CS6 trial, and most of the products were able to download just fine except a few, some of which I didn't really care about, but After Effects was one of them unfortunately and that was one of the reasons I was downloading the collection. I looked at the system requirements and discovered that the only version my laptop could handle was CS4. Is it possible to download the trial version of this without downloading it from shady sites? I just need to try it out, although it would be nice if it was free now.
    Thanks in advance.
    Brendon.

You can download a 30 day time limited Trial version of After Effects CS4 here. After 30 days it will cease to function without a CS4 serial number, which you cannot purchase now if you don't already have one.
    http://prodesigntools.com/download-adobe-cs4-and-cs3-free-trials-here.html
Ensure that you follow the Very Important Instructions on that page first otherwise the links will not work.
You can no longer purchase After Effects CS4 and it definitely is not available for free even though it's a superseded version. So you'll only get 30 days out of it.
I take it you're trying it because you have a 32 bit system?

  • With Adobe Dynamic Link do you have to buy a suite to be able to use it or can you buy just After Effects and Premiere?

The company I work for has me on Sony Vegas and After Effects right now.  I am working on getting over to Premiere.  On my personal computer I bought the suite and I have Adobe Dynamic Link and love it.  My questions is since they purchased After Effects already would Adobe Dynamic Link work if they just bought Premiere.

    > CS6 will only be available for purchase until May 30th and then Creative Cloud takes over completely.
That is not correct. We are still selling CS6 software for quite some time. Where did you see an indication otherwise?
Regarding Dynamic Link: In the current versions of the applications, no suite is required. For example, if you have the single-application subscriptions for both Premiere Pro CC and After Effects CC, Dynamic Link works between them. Dynamic Link is still limited to working between applications that share the same major version (i.e., CS6 with CS6, CC with CC, and so on).

  • I can't edit my keyframes in after effects? (please help)

Okay so the other day I purchase after effects, everything was working fine until this happened:
    http://gyazo.com/1ad100e3404c6e7c06e01407d2b8e7a8

My computer's specs are in this screenshot:
    http://gyazo.com/5fbeaff62b6136cd74a177e251500ac0
Just explain to me all the options i can take towards fixing this.

You simply have hidden the A/V column. Right-click on the column headers and reveal it from the list. If it has shrunk together so you can't expand it again, trash the prefs to restore factory defaults.

  • FCPHD and After Effects 6.5:  Where to start?

    Hi there,
Well, now I'm officially in the land of the confused! I've just purchased After Effects, and of course I've only recently just gotten decent in FCPHD...I have some questions which I suppose are for those that are using FCP and After Effects 6.5 Professional, specifically with HD footage (Sony HVRZ1U)...
    1. I can't seem to hear any of my audio when I import my high def clips from FCP into After Effects (unless I double click on the clip in After Effects and it plays the native QT file) It just doesn't work when monitoring the timeline. Yes, I have the audio enabled on the bottom left of the track.
    2. My composition settings in After Effects are confusing me a bit. My footage is 1920 x 1080 if I click "get info" while looking at a clip (FCHD clip, ,already captured from my deck). Somehow I thought it was supposed to be 1440 x 1080...anyway, what should my composition setting be in After Effects to make sure my footage doesn't get stretched, skewed or shrunken?
    3. I'm hoping someone could perhaps give me a proposed workflow in After Effects. Do I do what I need to do in FCP and then use After Effects or toggle between them both? I suppose the answer largely depends on what you're trying to do, but if anyone could share how they use FCPHD and After Effects together I sure would appreciate it.
    Thanks in advance!
    Gman

If you're not familiar with AFX then I strongly suggest you get the Adobe Classroom in a book for AFX and do a crash course in it. AFX is something you can figure out, but it's confusing at the same time.
As for getting footage back and forth, I export as a QT ref (recompress all files is unchecked) and use those files. I then export from AFX in the native format that my FCP project is in (in my case it's DV/DVCAM).
    Workflow varies on the project.
If I have essentially a sequence of video that I'm going to show all together, I'll build that into a sequence in FCP and export the sequence. For other things, I'll import each thing clip by clip.
Automatic duck will save you a lot of time if you can afford it. you basically build the basic feel of your piece in FCP, position, size, speed, sequences, etc, and then it enables you to bring your FCP file right into AFX where you can then do what you need to do for it.
I can't help you in the HD dept, I've only dealt with SD in AFX. Easiest way to get your resoultion right is to drag a clip that you brough in from AFX to the "Create a Composition" icon in the bin area. That'll copy the settings from that clip and turn it into a composition.
