Purchasing app that's already installed

Hi everyone,
When Lion came out and we needed to update xcode in the office, instead of everyone downloading the exact same installer 20 times, one person downloaded xcode from the app store then shared the installer to everyone on the network. The installation went fine, everything works fine, but now when it comes time to update, I'm not able to update xcode under my account because it was 'purchased' (loose term, consdering the app is free) through a different account.
Deleting the _MASReceipt folder from the installer means that the app no longer shows as installed in the App Store, however I'm still not able to update via Software Update.
Just wondering how I can 'purchase' xcode under my account so I can receive updates without having to completely uninstall and download a duplicate copy of an installer I already have?
Thanks in advance,
Christian

One of the big drawbacks is that the person who downloaded the update installer and passed it around, is now in violation of the End User License Agreement and your whole group is technically using a pirated app.
The other thing is that if this is a business, you lot should be using Apple's business/education multi-license program, not downloading the consumer apps with a consumer EULA.
I haven't read the EULA, but if you're telling me that we're in violation because we're sharing a free app then that's ridiculous, whether it's part of the EULA or not. When 20 people have to download the exact same 3gb file just so it can be associated to their own account, that's a crappy system, and I'll happily be called a pirate for saving ~60gb of bandwidth for the sake of some DRM stuff And to answer your question, no, it's not a business, just a shared workspace.

you would have to redownload it.
And besides, why keep the installer, its hogging alost 4 GB of space (and in my case, an 80 GB drive goes nowhere if I do stuff like that)
I think you missed the point... I already have the installer for the app, but in order to associate the app to my account I have to redownload the exact same installer that I already have. Waste of bandwidth and time. Anyway I'm pretty sure you actually need to keep the installer so that the App Store knows Xcode is installed (only happens with Xcode, not other apps).

  • I just downloaded the IOS 6 update on my iPad 2, and it deleted my youtube app that was already installed when I got the iPad. I want it back.

Okay, I just downloaded IOS 6 on my iPad 2, and it deleted the youtube app that was already installed when I got the iPad, I downloaded the new app from the apple store and it doesn't fit my screen, this is ******* me off and I would like it back.

Here is the thing the actual license for Apple to have a native YouTube app has expired you must understand this more about Apple removing Google from its ecosystem and less about actual licenses.  If Apple was so inclined I am almost certain they could have continued to provide a native YouTube app.
Do you really think that Apple Maps are "better" for iOS users?  You know that you can set your default search to another provider such as Bing?  Imagine Apple changing its default Safari search to Bing.  You must understand that Google makes more from searches on iOS devices than it does on everyting that is Andriod (source:http://www.digitaltrends.com/mobile/google-earns-four-times-more-from-ios-than-a ndroid/).  Apple is slowly and meticulously working on freeing iOS of Google products.
Of course it is a free market and Apple will most certainly allow Google's apps on their app store.

  • HT201272 Ever since I updated my iPad to the new iOS 6, my iPad has deleted the YouTube app that was already installed and I don't know how to get it back. How can I get it back??

^^ above in the title is my question.

you can't get the old you tube icon because apple deleted it. BUT you can download youtube app on the app store for free and its actually better and faster than the previous youtube app that you want. hope this helps!

  • Is it possible to transfer one single App from my iTunes onto my iPad, without losing the Apps that are already installed on my iPad?

I originally had the app (FilmOn.TV) on my iPhone, so it is backed up in my iTunes on my PC. It's no longer available in the App Store and I would really like to have it on my iPad. When I read up on this, it seems to say that if I sync any apps from my iTunes onto my iPad, that any Apps currently on the iPad will be deleted.
Can anyone tell me, please, is it possible to bring one single App across onto my iPad, without losing all of my existing ones.
    Thank you in advance.
    Brian.

Do you think you could email me the Filmon .ipa file? I lost mine the other day, and it would be very handy.

  • Apple is making me pay to update free apps OR apps that have already been purchased, More than once??!!

I have Recently been trying to update several apps of mine, and when i click update all, or one at a time, it takes me straight to my billing information. Then after that it says i need to pay to update my apps that have already been purchased or apps that i have gotten for free, i have never used a credit card to buy apps, i have always just used iTunes Cards to Redeem apps. However, when i took my iPhone 5 with iOS 7.1.1  to the apple store, the "geniuses" have told me i have outstanding payments on an app so in order to update them, i need to go and purchase more itunes cards.. So i have went out and bought about Three 20$ itunes cards hoping that by using just 1 card - it would fix the problem im having. but it isnt. ALSO if i purchase an app without having the same amount of what it costs it will not let me buy/download it, so how can i have to pay for apps that are already on my phone?? MOST THAT ARE FREE. Can someone please help me solve this issue that actually knows what they are doing?! thanks..

That's because the billing information is out of date or there was a problem with a previous purchase.

No. That's not what it says. What is the EXACT message you get?

Contact iTunes store support and find out what the problem is.

Um... yeah... That's the way it works. If you want to buy something, you have to have enough to actually pay for it.
    Contact iTunes store support.
You're not talking to Apple.  This is a user forum.

  • HT4461 how do i install a purchased app that says installed but it's not on mac or iPad?

how do i install a purchased app that says installed but it's not on mac or iPad?

An app is considered to be installed if it shows up in a Spotlight search of local volumes. Bring up a search window in the Finder by pressing the key combination command-F. Search This Mac for the name of the application. Delete all copies that are found.

  • How I retrieve a purchased app that was taken down?

Hello. I would like to discuss with this problem that I have just encountered. Recently, I've chosen a back up storage and then iCloud was restoring my iPhone. There was a link of the app showing that it was there then suddenly it vanished off the iPhone screen. I've tried to restore it again and again. Same thing happened, link of the app was showing and then in a matter of seconds, it vanished. I checked my apple account(I have also checked in the hidden purchased apps, I got zero results) , the app that I have purchased for $3.99 was no longer existed. They said that the developer of the app(Yu Zeng) took it down, due to lack of office use. I really loved that app and I paid good money for it. So the question is,"How do I retrieve a purchased app that was taken down? Or "Is it possible to retrieve a purchased app that was taken down?" If there is any solution to this matter, please do tell. I really need a lot of help!
Video Downloader Pro is the app that I really loved.

  • How can I remove and replace a purchased app that is malfunctioning.

How can I remove and replace a purchased app that is malfunctioning.?

Delete the App and redownload it...
Touch the app and hold your finger down until all the apps start to jiggle.
You will see a circled "x" in the upper left corner.
Tap it to delete an app. When done press the Home button.
( You cannot delete any pre-installed iOS app.)
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipad/applications/
    Download Past Purchases
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519
Log into iTunes using the account the Purchase was made with... Click on Buy... and a notice will come up saying you already have it... do you wish to download it again... Click Yes...

  • Where do I go on the iPad to see if there is an iPad version of an iPhone app that I already have?

Where do I go on the iPad to see if there is an iPad version of an iPhone app that I already have?

When you do the search and the app appear in the search, it will tell you that it is installed on your device but there is not way to find one app to replace another app - unless I am misunderstanding what you are asking.
And if there is an iPad version of an iPhone app that you already have - you will have to purchase that app for the iPad - because that is a different app from the iPhone version.

  • HT202159 Mountain Lion upgrade download stopped, now it states in purchased apps that 'an error has occured' and resume button is blank & will not work

Mountain Lion upgrade download stopped, now it states in purchased apps that 'an error has occured' and resume button is blank & will not work. Tried to re download, but it states code has already been used

    Danielle...
From the App Store menu bar top of your screen click Store > Check for Unfinished Downloads
If that doesn't help, disable anti virus software and turn off the Firewall in System Preferences > Security & Privacy.
Keep in mind, for downloading Mountain Lion from the App Store, a high speed (broadband) internet connection is strongly recommended by Apple as noted here > iTUNES STORE - MAC APP STORE - TERMS AND CONDITIONS
If you need to reinstall OS X or repair the the startup disk using Mountain Lion Recovery, that requires broadband (high speed internet) access to the internet via Wi-Fi or an Ethernet connection. OS X is downloaded over the internet form Apple when OS X Recovery is used for reinstallation.

Cannot update Facetime from 1.0.3 to 1.0.5--Software update won't update it and app store says already installed can't buy it??

    Try re-indexing Spotlight.
    Spotlight – Re-index
If worse comes to worse, and it is in your Purchases tab, delete 1.0.3 and download it again. You might need to do Spotlight again.

  • I was gifted an app that I already own. Options?

I was gifted an app that I already have.  What are my options?  (it's a rather expensive app.)

Did you redeem the code already? If not, I recommend having the purchaser contact iTunes Store Customer Support via http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/gotoiTunesSupport They may be able to arrange a refund for them.

  • How do I fix Creative Cloud to show ALL my apps that I have installed ?

    Here my specs : Windows 7 Pro 64 bit ● 10GB DDR3 RAM ● Intel Core i7 ● AMD Radeon HD 5700 Series
    Here my story :
One day, little Creative Cloud said it had an update to be installed on itself. Possibly taking it from version 1.7 to 2.0 or something. I clicked on update. Creative Cloud started downloading and once it was done it said update complete. I clicked on finish or something. Once that happened, it disappeared completely. Gone from taskbar, Window closed and shortcut gone ! I looked into the Creative Cloud folder, in the Adobe folder and there were two folders : Adobe Creative Cloud and Adobe Creative Cloud_2.7.0.413. I then went into the Adobe Creative Cloud folder and double opened the application therein. It opened the Creative Cloud desktop app BUT showed it had an update just as before for itself. I AGAIN clicked on update, and then it said "Error 50" , unable to update. I searched around and somewhere on the forums it said I must download adobe cloud and reinstall it. I did that and ever since that dreadful day, little Creative Cloud desktop app doesn't want to show ALL my installed apps anymore. It simply shows only 2 !
This is what I have : Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Flash Professional, Media Encoder, Fireworks. What it only shows in Creative Cloud desktop app : Flash Professional, Dreamweaver.
    What I tried doing :
1.) Re-installing the Adobe Creative Cloud desktop app.
2.) Changing the directory settings for APPS and pointing them to the actual location of the installed apps.
3.) Deleting or renaming the "opm.db" file.
    4.) YES, I RESTARTED MY PC !!!
What I want to do :
1.) Receive a fix that will make ALL my installed apps show.
2.) Find out what the hell the difference is between the concept of having TWO versions of the same program installed BUT getting updates for BOTH like "Adobe Photoshop CC" and "Adobe Photoshop CC 2014". I installed the Adobe Photoshop CC this year almost 2 months ago for example. Then CC told me there is an app update and that got me Adobe Photoshop CC 2014. Now I have two versions of the above listed programs... Why doesn't CC just UPDATE the Adobe Photoshop CC, rename and list ONLY Adobe Photoshop CC 2014 in the end ?
What I do not want : RE-DOWNLOAD OR RE-INSTALL ALL MY INSTALLED APPS ! This not only will cost me a lot of internet bandwidth but also a considerable amount of time. There must be a simple fix as all files are in place ! I can launch all apps individually and they are working both the "" versions and the 2014 ones.
My question : How do I fix Creative Cloud to show ALL my apps that I have installed ?

    Hi alextz11,
The email in the forum does not reflect any Creative Cloud order. Please follow the steps in
Locate the C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\OOBE directory and rename it to OOBE_OLD
Download and reinstall the Creative Cloud Application from https://creative.adobe.com/products/creative-cloud.
You can also consult : http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/help/install-apps.html
    Hope it helps your issue.

You should be able to copy it from your iPhone to your computer's iTunes via File > Devices > Transfer Purchases, and if it's compatible with your iPad you can then sync it to it
