Purchasing InDesign CS6 with option of downgrading to 5.5
I have software that integrates with InDesign. The maker says that the plugins work best in InDesign CS5.5. I am told that if I purchase Adobe Design Standard CS6, I will be allowed to download InDesign CS5.5 for free, and I can later upgrade to CS6 for free. Can anyone verify this?
That's humbug. Buying a newer version doesn't entitle you to use older versions nor is it technically possible since it would keep Adobe busy all day issuing extra legacy serial numbers.

If you have purchased CS6 Indesign Download from Adobe Online, then you can go ahead and login to your Adobe account and navigate to "My Adobe" > "My Orders" to locate the Order, its download and the serial number.
You can also download the same trial version again and just use the serial number to activate it to a full version. Below is the link for the trial versions for CS6 versions:

Can I replace InDesign CS6 with InDesign CS6 ME version? And does the ME version interface in English or Arabic?
I have a translator who sends me InDesign files using the Sultan font, but when I open it, a lot of the font shows up as math symbols. I have the correct font installed, but I'm wondering if I need the additional features of the ME version of InDesign to make the type correct on my end.I don't believe my CS6 is from a Creative Cloud subscription. It was installed by my IT department, so I will ask them.
When I receive the files from the translator, they send both an InDesign file and a PDF, so I can see it as they see it. However, the InDesign file looks like this:

They sent me the font file, so I'm assuming I have the right font and the issue is on my end. Or perhaps not? -

InDesign CS6 with Window 8 Won't Launch
Had been working fine, last launch was 3 days ago. Today tried to open InDesign CS6 (Windows 8.1) and get the following InDesign.exe error box: "CAnot load InDesign.exe because it requires Paragraph Composer. Please install the Paragraph Composer plug-in and restart InDesign." How do you do this, where do you get?

I would certainly try just doing ID first. If that's not successful you can remove the whole suite, run the cleaner tool (CS Cleaner Tool for installation problems | CCM, CS6, CS5.5, CS5, CS4, CS3) then reinstall. -
How do I create an interactive PDF file in InDesign CS6 with Folio Overlays?
I have been trying to export an interactive PDF file using InDesign CS6. It exports fine, and all the content works except for the Folio Overlays I created. I created two Folio Overlays (one Pan & Zoom and one Scrollable Frame). The overlays work if I preview them from the Folio Overlays panel, but they do not work on the PDF document.
I am using File >> Export... to create the PDF document, and I am sure the PDF document is of the interactive type and not the print type. Am I exporting it incorrectly? Is there a specific step that I have missed somewhere? Do I need to create a Folio Build to make the Folio Overlays work?
When I mouse over the Folio Overlays, I get the crosshair cursor which only selects part of the image when I click and drag it.PDF is one thing. Folios for DPS is another. There is a little bit of
overlap but not much.
The interactivity in the folio overlays panel is for DPS only. -

Yosemite & NEW install of InDesign CS6 - any issues?
I have Yosemite installed on my 2010 MacBook Pro. My boss wants me to purchase InDesign CS6 as a new installation. (I have not ever had any version of InDesign installed on my Mac.) I would prefer InDesign CC, but he won't go for it.
I have seen a few issues where people who have already installed versions of InDesign CS6 have problems with it after installing Yosemite.
Since mine would be a NEW installation of InDesign CS6 on a Mac running Yosemite, I wonder if there are any known issues.
I don't want to purchase the software and then run into problems.
(I am not having any problems with already installed versions of Photoshop CS6 and Dreamweaver CS6 and Yosemite.)Nonsense, you DON'T loose access to your files, you can't edit them without having the appropriate version, but all output like PDF, JPG, etc. is accessible. No workaround is needed as you suggest.
With your argumentation you will loose your files also, when you have to update your OS as CS6 will not run forever. Only CS6 versions.

Adobe is not allone with its subscription model. MS introduced several Years ago MS Office365 which will sooner or later the only method to get MS Office (as an official MS Instructor told in a public forum not long ago in Germany). The problem is, that today's OS are changing very fast and it is—contrary to 10 or 12 Years ago—it becomes more and more impossible to make software so, that it will be compatible more than 4 Years, and this period is decreasing rapidly.
Another thing is, both, Adobe and Microsoft make it more easier to change OS without additional cost. In former times you was sticked with the OS you had. Mobile OS applications are only accessible with subscriptions. Adobe has a lot of them and some important companions to InDesign will come, or with MS Office: you can install their software only with Office365 and not with the permanent versions. File mobility becomes more and more important. -
Why can't I use my Adobe Creative Suite 3 Design Premium serial number to upgrade my Indesign CS3 to my purchased Indesign CS6 upgrade. Response states 'this serial number is not a qualifying product'. Is it because I'm only upgrading Indesign not the whole suite?
Suites can only be upgraded to suites. This has been forever this way. Get in touch with support regarding return policies or alternately a full suite upgrade.

How can I get Indesign CS6 to open JPG/PNG files?
I recently purchased Indesign CS6. When I went to import a PNG, it failed to recognize it. I then tried a JPG to no avail. The exact error message reads as follows:
"Cannot open the file "photo.png". Adobe Indesign May not support the file format, a plug-in that supports the file format may be missing, or the file may be in another application."
How could the plug-ins be missing? Wouldn't these be installed with Indesign? Any advice as to how to proceed?.

Here are the technical infos:
MAC Mini with 2 partitions: MAC and WIN7. MAC partition is fine.
WIN crashed a day ago. New fresh WIN 7 install. I installed Creative Cloud Desktop app for WIN. I need two InDesign versions: InDesign CS6 which worked perfectly until WIN crashed and InDesign CC2014. Despite I selected All app versions in CC desktop app, when I tried to install InDesign I saw no option to select which version. Instead InDesign CC2014 installed automatically.
I went on my account through Adobe website hopping to get it from there. The new website is looking fine but I cannot find the InDesign CS6 downloading option. In fact I cannot locate anywhere in the new website the older versions.
Please help me.

Indesign CS6 won't install on Windows 7 64bit via GPO
Good afternoon,
I created a installation of Indesign CS6 with application manager enterprise 3 to deploy to computers via the active directory.
It installs correctly without issue to Windows XP x86 machines however won't install to Windows 7 x64 machines.
When the computers starts it trys to install but fails and proceeds to the login screen. The following information is left in the Windows event log.
Has anyone else had this problem and more importantly know how to solve it?

I am able to install InDesign CS6 manually on the machines from the CD/DVD however when trying to install it via GPO or running the msi using the msi exec commands it doesn't install and leaves the above errors in the event log.
The installation was made using the same CD/DVD and the installation works on the Windows XP clients and software other than InDesign CS6 will install to the Win 7 64-bit machines via GPO.

InDesign CS6 plug-in not recognized correctly by InDesign
I have been trying to create a simple InDesign CS6 plug-in that writes to a log file as I'm opening & closing InDesign documents. SDK package had the LinkWatcher sample that I've been using as a reference when creating my solution.
Currently the problem is that I'm getting a "Adobe InDesign does not recognize mfindesign.pln as a valid plug-in" when I try to start up InDesign CS6 with the plugin. That isn't too helpful as it doesn't let me know where the problem is and compiling the code with VS2010 gives me no errors currently.
Relevant parts of the code can be found from https://github.com/crnd/MFIndesign/. I've been using CResponder as a base class in my implementation.
Anyone have any good pointers where & how to start looking for the problem? Or even better if someone can already spot the mistake(s) I've made...This is a typical problem to solve, based on my individual experience on this issue i would recommend the following check points.
Check that your plugin is linking to correct version of libraries.
Check you are using the correct version of SDK
Look for the odfrc command line and see that correct flags are being sent as argument to it. Also that the correct version of odfrc is being used to compile the resources
If possible use the debug version of InDesign, it may give you more detailed error prompt. Like if the plugin you are trying to load is a release version, or the resources are missing.
See if the resources are actually compiled and the resulting folder is placed parallel to your .pln file, like very truly mentioned by Bartek. Pay attention to what the name of this folder should be.
Also makes sure that these resource folders are not empty.
