Purchasing Macbook Pro abroad

Hi, I am currently living in South Korea and am looking to purchase a Macbook Pro 13" this month but am having a few troubles finding information that I need beacause of the language barrier. Anyone able to help please?
1) Will the 'Apple Cover' cover me fully when I return to the UK/live in other countries?
2) Is it more expensive to purchase 'Apple Cover' on its own (at a later date from the coputer)?
3) Am I going to be able to get a full English keyboard and will the programs be set up in English or Korean?
Thanks to anyone who is able to help.

1) The cover is world wide, where Apple are in business and they and/or authorised resellers exist
2) No as long as you purchase before the end of the first year it's the same price
3) You will get a Korean keyboard and setup if you buy in Korea, unless you can make some special arrangement with a store there to supply you with an English setup ...

How do I get a newly purchased Macbook Pro to turn on - all I get is a blinking folder with "?" on a gray screen?

Take it back where it was purchased. Include all packaging and take your dated receipt. You can request an exchange or your money back within the first 14 days from date of purchase. Don't delay.

Just brought home newly purchased MacBook Pro 15"/Maverick/Retinal Display. To my astonishment, there is NO DVD slot! No one in the store told me about this missing feature. Intolerable, How does one install software? Insert CDs to copy for iTunes?Do I have to purchase an external DVD drive? Is one even available? What a crock!

I’ve owned Macs since 1990 (IICX my first), mostly desktops. Having had DVD/CD drives in all my previous laptop Macs since 2001 -  (2) G4 Powerbooks,  A 17” Mac Book Pro - and also inspecting a friend’s year-old Mac Book Pro which had the DVD slot - unless someone told me at purchase, I had no reason to know that the Retina display version of the 15” had NO DVD drive. ANYHOW, I fully intended to buy the non-Retina display version, because it was cheaper. Unfortunately by the time I got to the Apple store they were no longer selling the non-Retina display version; all versions were ONLY with the Retina display. And the fine distinction of a DVD vs. a non-DVD drive was not pointed out. So now I have to shell out an additional $80 bucks for an external SuperDrive.

  • I purchased Macbook Pro i5 in March 2011. Now the screen has problem; one vertical blue line is in the screen (at the right side). I noticed this last week when I opened the MacBook, and now I am always seeing it. How to remove it?

I purchased Macbook Pro i5 in March 2011. Now the screen has problem; one vertical blue line is in the screen (at the right side). I noticed this last week when I opened the macbook and now I am always seening it. I am seeing the blue vertical line always in the screen. However, I am not seeing this line when I open Word, Excel, PowerPoint files (without pictures). But I am seeing this line always when I see movies, pictures, and all the files which have pictures. Please do let me know how can I remove this vertical blue line (blue tint) pernamentally from the screen.

Backup your files to a external hard drive and disconnect.
Call Apple and make a warranty call, then take it to the nearest Apple Store etc.
You can run these things and it might clear your issue or give further informaiton
    Perform a hardware check

Then see if resetting the SMC/PRAM resolve your issue

Purchased MacBook Pro with windows which will not now open b/c no license number.
CD package has license number stripped from Apple. How do I get the license number
for the software I purchased for Windows XT?

This is not a Mac/Apple issue.  You need to contact the seller and ask where the Windows XP product key is.

  • I have purchased MacBook Pro in November 2011. However, Pages, Numbers and Keynote comes as uninstalled in the App Store. How to correct this anomaly.

I have purchased MacBook Pro in November 2011. However, Pages, Numbers and Keynote (pre-installed) come as uninstalled in the App Store. How to correct this anomaly?

If the iWork apps were not originally purchased from the App Store, i.e., you bought them on an iWork installer DVD, then the App Store has no record of the purchase. When updates are available for them, you'll get your updates through the Software Update application rather than through the App Store.

Does it come with international warranty or do I have purchase internationaly warranty serperately ?

Apple's warranty is global.  However, some countries have laws which over rides Apple's warranty.  To check to see if India is involved read the info in EU-wide Consumer Laws article.

  • Purchasing macbook pro in apple or amazon

If i went into an apple store and told them i can buy a macbook pro 13inch  from amazon for £850ish, but i would buy one today from them if they also threw in a case, a free upgrade to the next OSX and ...apple Tv, and i would pay the full£1000 what would there response likely be?

You'd not get very far... I've purchased from both Amazon and Apple (my 'latest' machine was an Amazon purchase). I didn't save a bundle, but I did save some... also by purchasing AppleCare through Amazon. I likely saved around $300USD total (including no tax - but I had to report that and pay State taxes) but I'm assuming that VAT is part and parcel of the UK Amazon deal?

Do I need a power converter to use my MacBook Pro 3,1 in Italy?  I've had it for a few years, purchased and used in USA.

The block auto-switches to Europe power.  You just need an adapter for the final plug-end appropriate for Italy.

  • Need Help for New Purchase - Macbook Pro 8gb & express slot

    Hello All,
I needed some advise or rather clarification on a new purchase of a Macbook Pro.
I became a bit disheartened ever since the new Macbook Pros replaced the express slot with the SD card reader.
I want a 15" Macbook Pro , with 8gb of expandable ram (Or at least have the option) , 512 video - graphics memory , & the express slot.
I DO NOT WANT the 17' because it becomes too bulky.
Here is what i was looking at: (15" macbook pro - 2.93ghz core 2 duo, 512 video, express slot, 4gb ram, etc) -$1,949 - Basically the model just prior to the new line with the express slot instead of the card reader.
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/G0GR3LL/A?mco=MjE0NDk5Mw
In this description , it states that the ram is limited to 4gb , but i find that hard to believe, seeing as how the previous model (early 2009) allowed for upto 8gb of ram i believe.
Secondly, the link below (toward the bottom) outlines that the Macbook Pro, depending on the processor (2.66 or above) , do allow for 8gb or ram.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MacBook_Pro
I have gotten mixed information, and needed to clarify before i make this large investment.
Any advise that can be offered would be a big help.
    Thank you.
    -Parag

I saw your post and thought I could definitely help ya out on some of your questions.
First of all, yes - All the latest MBP's support up to 8GB RAM. (I'd recommend buying the RAM at "Other World Computing" as opposed to upgrading through Apple though. It's about 60% cheaper and is quite easy to install)
I find it very frustrating that the 13" & 15" MBP's no longer have a way to expand functionality via an Express-Card slot. There's really no work around on this other than going with the 17". However, I know how bulky that, and I love my 13" in comparison. The only other possibility would be to find a 15" from their previous series of MBP's (they come with only 4GB RAM, but actually will support up to 6GB).
I do love my new 13", and unless you definitely need the Express Card reader, I definitely reccommend the purchase. Good Luck!

  • About to Purchase Macbook Pro, with reservations

I am about to purchase a Macbook Pro, but I have some reservations I wanted to level about, and get the communities opinion. I really want leopard when it is released in October, but I'm going to school, so I cant wait till then to purchase it. I've heard there is some sort of obscure Apple policy that will allow me to upgrade to the new OS for free if I purchases the hardware within a given amount of time before the upgrade to Leopard. If true, this will cement my decision to get a Macbook. If not..... I may have to pursue a PC, unfortunately.

    hirschab,
If I am not mistaken, Apple has offered free "upgrade" versions of new OSs to those who purchased hardware within 30 days of any new release (I know for a fact that the plan is offered, I'm just not sure of the time period).
In other words, it is unlikely that anything you purchase now would be eligible when Leopard is released.
However, the full "retail" version of OS X is only $129; that's all it would cost to upgrade when the time comes (of course, pricing for Leopard could be different, but probably not by much).
Regardless of all this, it doesn't make sense that you would base your buying decision on whether or not you would get a free copy of Leopard. Either OS X is what you want, or it's not. While Leopard will have some new features, it is still OS X, and Tiger is already way better than anything else.
Do you have some specific reservations concerning Tiger that you think would be addressed in Leopard?
