Purchasing music a 2nd time

I recently had my computer crash and, due to not having a backup, I lost all my music; my fault for not backing everything up. My question is, how do I download the music again? When I find the song in the iTunes store, the choice for Buy Song isn't available, just Purchased.

  • Copying purchased music - How many times?

    Hi all,
How many times can you copy purchased music from the iTMS? I remember reading there was a limit of five times, but I haven't been able to resource the info again. What happens if you burn the music to CD? Does it still have a copy limit like that Sony anti-copy disaster a few months ago? - Which didn't effect Macs at all! "Good on ya Jobbsy" : )
Thanks in advance for your input.

There is a 7 burns limit to a specific playlist which contains 1 or more purchased songs.

  • A grumble about Losing Purchased music -relying on Time Capsule to backup

    I am annoyed.
    Our house has
-three ( yes three Time Capsules
    - an Apple Tv
    - three (yes three Mac minis)
    - a mac laptop
    - A mac desktop
    - 2 iphones
    -2 ipod touches
    - 2 ipads
And all my music was backed up on one of the time capsules. The mobile devises are useless for recoveing music back to the macs.
The time capsule collapsed ( power plant fault issue I am told common for that generation of time capsules). I lost all the data on the TC...which included music.
I have had a collapse of the mac mini that had the music stored on it as well.
As a consequence all my music needs to be reloaded. Fortunately most of it was from my CD's
Music purchased from istore ( albeit quite limited amounts) I now find I cannot re-download as I can with apps for the two ipads , the two iphones and the two ipod touches we have.
This ****** me off to say the least.
    1. I relied on apple with what I thought was a quality backup system in the Time capsule.
    2. why cannot I download already purchased music the same way I can with apps
The incapacity to recover music purchases just xxxx annoys me beyond belief. I was confident that by relying on Apple on-line purchases were the way to go. I relied on Apple for the backup mechanisms for that.
Apple ..you have let me down
If your new Apple Tv is relying on on demand download you need to get these things right.
I forgot to mention that we also subscribe to mobileme.( but the storage size and costs make that unviable for backups of any scale)

First, you need to understand that you're not addressing Apple here. With the exception of the forum moderators who have thousands of posts to have to scan every day, everyone here is just a fellow user and not an Apple employee (except for a few who participate on their own time as private individuals).
As to your actual question, it is almost certainly due to the licensing agreements with the content owners that you get only a single download per purchase. I don't know about other download stores in Australia, if any, but the other download stores to which I have access that carry content from the major providers similarly allow only a single download per purchase (with the exception of the subscription-based service, where you have unlimited access as long as you continue to pay the monthly fee).
Apple has, however, been known to grant exceptions, and in your situation I'd think you'd have a strong case to make for the granting of a free second download, since you did attempt to make backups and Apple's product failed. Contact iTunes Store Customer Service (select the category and subcategory closest to the issue you're reporting and you'll find a button to send e-mail to them) and explain what happened.
    Good luck.

  • Error (-50) cannot purchase music at this time

Help! I've been trying do download music the past several weeks and each time I choose "download song" it prompts me to pay, but then i get an error message (-50) that says "itunes cannot proceed with purchase at this time. this is an itunes error. please try again later." then, when i click on my "downloads" folder under "STORE" in iTunes, it lists the song title then "stopped (err=-5000)"
any ideas? I've already verified that I have the latest version of itunes, 7.0.2
    help!!!!!!!!!!!! thank you!!!!!!!!!!

This is a terrible customer experience for Apple users. I have been dealing with this same issue since April 2012; all used to work just fine and then suddenly -- "Cannot send message" error appears.
When is Apple going to fix this? I have two iPads and an iPhone but often need to access files from my PC (next time, it'll be a Mac),
    Very frustrating.

  • My Ipod deleted all my music! (2nd time)

It's so frustrating! My Ipod has always had connection problems. It disconnects from car Ipod hookups, and when I plug it into the computer, all it takes is a slight brushing against the cord to make it eject unprovoked. BUT this is the second time it has deleted almost all of my music unprovoked! I will plug it in, and (this time) it said something like "verifying Ipod" ... When I ejected it over 5,000 songs had vanished. I know you can restore the Ipod and re-sync... but the problem is I have taken music from friends computers, my brother, boyfriend etc. and I can't remember which songs I did and did not have before. PLUS it takes forever to do/restore playlists etc...... Is there something I am doing wrong? Or should I bring it into Apple? I don't have any warrenties etc but it's only 2 years old

If you're in the US, you might also be able to get the music back besides the apps. Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
Otherwise you've lost your music purchases

  • Is there a limit to how many times you can burn a CD of purchased music?

Sorry if this is a common question...
I tend to buy music in the iTunes store, then burn CDs to listen to in my car. They get scratched up a lot so I will usually need to burn them several times. Will iTunes allow me to do this with DRM-protected, purchased music, as many times as I need?

You can only burn any given playlist containing tracks from the iTunes Music Store a maximum of seven times. After that, you have to change the playlist in some way (adding or removing a track will do) or create a new playlist.

  • Itunes burns all but purchased music

I'm trying to burn a playlist of existing and purchased music, but each time it burns, it excludes the purchased music. I have never burned the purchased music before, so I haven't reached the 7 song limit, and I know I checked those boxes. The suggestions given by itunes haven't helped. The CDs are fine otherwise. Any help is appreciated.

1st check if your purchased music will play on your Mac - maybe you need to authorize those tracks.
2nd check twice if your iTunes Burning Preferences are set to "AudioCD" (or DATA DVD/CD) as purchased music can't be burned to MP3 CDs.

  • Hit 5 Transfer Limit  for purchased music.Multiple drive failures. Wht Now?

I've had multiple drive failures on my G=4 and I've reached
the last allowable transfer of purchased music from my
Ipod back to the new drive.
****.... Why doesn't it just recognize the computer otherwise
so that my re=loads aren't used up. Only 5 are allowed.
So now....What happens if and when this drive fails? Do I then
lose all future use of that very expensive, purchased music?
Makes me want to NEVER download from the Itunes store again,\
if this is indeed the case.
    What can I do?

There is no limit on "transfer of purchased music from my Ipod back to the new drive." You can store the iTunes Store purchased music as many times as your want on as many different hard drives, and play them all, as long as the computer doing the playing is authorized with your iTunes account (the one used to purchase the songs)
There is a "five" limit, and it is based on machine. You can play music purchased with a specific iTunes Store account on up to FIVE different computers at any given time. Each one is registered with the account, and when you reach five, you cannot add any more. The machine itself is identified (by something on the motherboard) so a new hard drive should not make the machine a "new" machine. So not sure what's happening if all you did was replace the hard drive...
In any event, you can clear your iTunes Store account of all authorized machines and get a fresh start. Here's how (see section +To deauthorize all computers associated with your account+ in the linked article).

Hi. I have shared an Apple ID with my children for some time.  As they are getting older they do not wnat me seeing all their messages, photos etc so want their own accounts.  How can they access their purchased music and apps on the new account please?

    Yes.
On their iOS devices, under Settings>iTunes & App Store, they should use your Apple ID. When they log into iCloud, iMessage and Facetime, they should use their personal Apple IDs.

" how can I sync my iphone to my mac book without losing all the music and pictures on it?"
You cannot.  Copy everything you want form the old computer to the new one, then sync it.
it basically says you have to erase your iphone to sync to a new itunes!
Correct Iphone will sync, or manually manage, with one and only one computer/library at a time. Syncing, or manually managing, to another will indeed erase the current content.

If you get an error that says can't backup, try moving the existing backup file to a safe location and thry again. again. You can find the location of the backup file here:

Every time I sync my Iphone 5c(with ios 8) to Itunes, it 1. deletes all of my purchased music 2. deletes all of my album artwork 3. replaces all of my deleted songs. please help! this is driving me crazy! It syncs 100+ songs, when I only want to sync 1! I'm running Itunes 11.3.1.2

After having experienced similar problems and having it back to work, I have a few suggestions:
    - Try to find out if the syncing stops at a particular track or song. That might - out of the blue - have gotten corrupted in one way or another. Since that song will not be on the iPod, iTunes will try over and over to put it on and crash in one way or another;
    - reformat the iPod as described in the iTunes 9 crash-thread. It takes time (at first it seems to do nothing, but that is because the green bar is moving with very small steps);
