Purchasing through iTunes...
Is it worth to purchase songs off iTunes? I'm saying this because every song we download is AAC protected which requires you to ONLY have an iPod. This doesn't help me if I just want to get another MP3 player strictly for audiobooks which my library downloads for free if it is NOT an iPod. I personally do not understand this other than more money for Apple. If I am wrong please let me know. Thank you.
Whatever part of your city government controls the library & its purchasing policies, I will almost bet signed some type of exclusive deal to provide audiobooks in protected mp3 format. I would right a letter of complaint to that governmental body. This is not the first time I've seen this type of complaint posted on these boards.
When it comes to the protection on the files from the store, this isn't really Apple's doing, it's required by the major record companies & other copyright holders for content. The iTunes Plus files are in unprotected AAC format at a higher audio quality, but only major label EMI & some indie labels have agreed to provide unprotected files to Apple for distribution in the store. This started about a year ago. There are finally other "cracks in the dam" when it comes to copy protection on files purchased/downloaded from other websites. Amazon.com has started offering unprotected mp3 files at a higher audio quality, along with emusic.com. I believe Napster has recently revealed a similar program to Amazon's, but the problem there is that I'm not sure whether the Napster program is compatible with a Mac. You can most certainly use an unprotected mp3 on an iPod, but if you can't access the website, it's a moot point. I, personally, can testify to Amazon's service as I purchase quite a bit of music from them. If the iTunes store doesn't have an iTunes Plus format file for a purchase I'm considering, I go straight to Amazon & purchase from them. I've been very pleased with Amazon at this point in time.

I just downloaded iTunes on my new PC and all the music that I have purchased through ITunes that was backed up on the cloud won't play. It is telling me I must authorize this computer before it can play pre purchased music. how do I authorize my computer to play this music?
Thank you for any assistance.Tigon's already got you covered here. But I'll chime in with some English localisation advice.
There's a couple of ways to get through to the authorisation controls in the 11.0.x versions.
The control is still in the Store menu, but first (if you're using iTunes versions 11.0.x) you might need to bring up the menu bar to see the Store menu.
If you're using 11.0.x, click on the wee boxy icon up in the top-left corner of your iTunes to see the "Show Menu Bar" control, as per the following screenshot:
Then you'll find the control in the Store menu:
Alternatively, if you don't want to bring up the menu bar, it's still possible to get into the authorise controls via nested menus accessible from the wee boxy icon. Here's a screenshot of where to find them: -

How do you delete songs that you purchased through iTunes but don't show up when you connect the iphone to iTunes? They don't show up in the music section when you click on "On this phone". Side Note: I have my phone setup to manually manage music. Please help.
Hi, Mrs.Frankie57.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If you want to delete a song from your iOS device on iOS 7, tap Songs, swipe the song from right to left, then tap Delete. The song is deleted from iPhone, but not from your iTunes library on your Mac or PC, or from iCloud.

Hello,
Since I updated my iphone none of my music that I did not purchase through itunes no longer works on my iphone. It is weird, the music is on the iphone but in gray and the iphone does not recognize it. The only songs that I could play are my songs that I downloaded on my phone that were purchased through itunes.
Another error: When I purchase a new song on itunes it doesn't put the song in my purchased playlist like it used too. In order for me to play that song I just purchased I have to go back to the itunes store and play it directly from the place I purchased it from which is super annoying.
Frankly I am really disappointed with the constant errors from upgrades that should be "Up grades" Not "down grades". Not sure why is going on but not seems to work the same anymore. Does anyone have any idea what is wrong with my iphone music?
Thank you,
DagoYou will probably lose the music.
Why is it not on your computer?
Have you failed to maintain a backup copy? -
For a couple months now, every movie purchase through iTunes fails to transfer to my iPhone or iPad giving me the error: "some of the items in the iTunes library, including were not copied to the iPad because you are not authorized for them on this computer". I have read many forums about deleting, reinstalling, de-authorizing and authorizing my iMac through the iTunes store. Many suggestions don't work except to rename the movie to *.MP4 in Finder under the iTunes movie directory. I imagine this is a setting or a bug somewhere... any suggestions on how to bypass having to rename the files in Finder? My research into Google suggests this problem dates back to 2007 or so but it is now more prevalent than ever.
Thanks.Try:

With the iTunes runtime error, the only solution seems to be to uninstall iTunes. If I can't open iTunes as it currently the case because of this issue, therefore I can't backup. What happens to all the audio CDs, books, etc. that I've uploaded to iTunes that I didn't purchase through iTunes when uninstalling. Can I be assured that these are in the Cloud also?
See Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
There is a link to an iTunes library backup tip within, along with other advice on getting iTunes reinstalled and working again.
You don't need iTunes to be working to backup the library. You do need iTunes to be working to backup or restore your device...

When I try to open video files purchased through iTunes in Quicktime, I get the message: 'Error 23132: an unknown error occurred. This never happened until I updated iTunes, but when I try to go back to the previous version, I still get the message. It is more convenient for me to play videos in Quicktime since iTunes is such a memory hog. Please help.
You may get better results if you switch to this alternate version: iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) and, if needed, reinstall QuickTime. The new (nearly) all 64-bit version doesn't seem to play well with QuickTime. Perhaps if DRM authentication is required QuickTime needs to be able to see something that is part of the older 32-bit code.

I have 2 Apple ID's, how do I delete the old one as its interferring with my new account and the music I have already purchased through ITunes does not want to play. Any suggestions?
Why would you create a new account?
All purchases will be tied to the account from which they were purchased.
You will have to authorize your computer for all the accounts from which music is purchased. -
Does family sharing allow content not purchased through itunes?
Most of my music has been ripped from my CDs, not purchased through itunes. The family sharing feature in ios8 sounds tempting since I currently have 4 of us working from a single account which causes some issues at times. Will I still be able to share the ripped CDs and other content not purchased from itunes with other family members if we split up and then turn on family sharing?
Thus far, the 5S that just arrived today is the only device with ios8 on it. The other iphones and ipads in the house will need to be updated when it seems safe to do so. We are also running itunes on two macbook pros and a few PCs.Yes, home sharing works with both purchased and ripped music, as well as videos. It does not allow you to move content from one computer to another; it allows you to stream content from one computer to another computer or device on the local network (or connected via a VPN).
If you want to access music outside of your network and copying it is a problem, then you might consider Match. -
I have a number of audiobooks purchased through iTunes on my iPod touch. Is there a way to move or download them to the Cloud so that I can access them on other devices?
Thanks - I didn't realize that. I'm also embarrassed to admit that I don't know how to transfer the audio files from my iPod to the iTunes library on my computer. When I select a book from the list on the iPod, the only option I see with the right-facing arrow symbol is "Show in iTunes Store ". I back the iPod up to this computer so I guess those files must be on it somewhere, but all I can recognize in the iTunes folder under " Music" are the music files found in the "iTunes Music" folder. (There are also a ton of files named "iTunes Temp (some #).) The Books list on the computer shows some but not all of the audiobooks - I purchased the rest on a different computer that is now unfortunately dead. I'm guessing now that those didn't transfer over when the new computer was populated from the old one, so the iPod may be the only place where those audiobooks now reside. I hope that made some sense- any additional advice would be appreciated.

i've already synced my itunes on my laptop with my iphone but it's not synching all of the albums/songs. Everything was purchase through itunes so i'm not sure what the issue is.
What settings do you have in iTunes? Is it set to sync all music, it is set to sync only checked songs? Is there anything different about the songs that it is not syncing. Is it possible they were they purchased with a different Apple ID?

I activated iTunes Match but the songs in my iTunes library that were not purchased through iTunes did not share to my other devices. instead there is a cloud with an exclaimation point nnext to eahc one and it says errror when you mouse over the cloud. How do I get these songs to share on iTuens Match?
Well, now I feel like a real dope. I restarted iTunes (can't believe I didn't do that before) and now the TV's see the share, and the iPhone see it too (I assume the iPad sees it but I have not checked yet).
