Purple and green pixels on my display

So I have this collection of pixels near the bottom of my screen but they're only visible over a dark grey area, like when you're in the login screen (I have an early 2013 MBPr 15 btw)
It's probably a problem with the screen itself and not the GPU (or maybe the connection between them?) since if I take a screenshot it's not visible and I've connected it to an external monitor and it doesn't have it.
I took a picture of said problem https://fbcdn-sphotos-c-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-xap1/t31.0-8/10498470_86776579 3251439_1883342093630891920_o.jpg
I've had this for a few weeks now and I've tried those youtube videos (I just to have some image retention after leaving something to run for a long time) which have decreased the amount of pixels. They all dissapeared for a few hours and now they're back. Anyone know what to do?
I can live with the problem since it's only on dark grey areas, but my laptop is still under warranty so if I really have to I might bring it to the store and look what they have to say about it. But I really need this computer to work on atm.

Based on the information that you have provided, the fault lies with the display.  If it is under warranty, take it in and have it evaluated by the genius bar technician.
Ciao.

  • MBP 15" freezes with solid pink and green pixels running across display

This happens every time I boot the machine. Randomly the machine will freeze and the display will show pink and green diagonal pixels running through whatever application is open.
I'm guessing this is going to be a send back issue. Anybody know anything about this?
I've had the machine for less than 12 hours and this is my first mac. This is very discouraging. Earlier I was furious because it makes the machine totally unusable.

No, it's definitely not supposed to do that.
    Seeing as you can't do much until tomorrow - a couple of things you could try;
    a) check the ram is pushed all the way in.
    b) Create a new user account - test - and see if it persists there.
    b) If a and b doesn't work - try a full clean install of OSX. I once had a PB that did odd things out of the box but was ok after a clean install of OSX from a disc. I assumed the disc image was compromised.
    Best of luck

  • Hi .. While working in PS it is freezing for a moment and wild purples and greens make large pixel patterns behind the program on the desk top. Any ideas ? Thanks.

Hi .. A never before seen problem for me .. While working in PS with large files , the program freezes for a moment and bright pixels of flourescent colors of purple  and green fill parts of the background screen behind Photoshop. Its getting worse ? The programs are running extremely slow also. Thanks for any ideas.

    You can't and don't have a PowerMac (G5).
Repairing Permissions, likely just waste of time.
    REPAIR the HARD DRIVE instead.

  • Why is everything purple and green?

Suddenly my computer is showing a lot of color in purple and green. Pictures even print out this way. I've repaired permissions and rebooted several times. I know it happened once shortly after rebuilding this system but the monitor was set to 256 colors. It's set to millions now and same problem. What's really weird is that it is affecting the pictures and how they print. This means it's not a monitor problem and I don't see how it could possibly be a video card prob. Any answers. I'm wanting to update to 10.4.3 but don't want to compound the problem.

Well this is a curious issue you have here. The fact it affects how things print, suggests Colorsync may be picking up on the color calibration of the display in the printer settings. Since I'm not sure how Colorsync goes about colormatching, you might want to make the question in the printing forum:

  • Late 2008 MacBook Pro 17" frozen with pink and green pixels

    Hi all,
Hope someone can point me in the right direction with my Macbook Pro problem. I have a late 2008 version of the 17" MacBook Pro. I've been using it today and it's been completely fine. that was up until I was uploading my recent holiday photos to iPhoto. I left it to upload and came to check on it after 5 minutes. I found the program had frozen and pink and green pixels were spotted all over the screen.
I turned the laptop off by the power button. When I started her up again I found the white screen with the pink and green pixels everywhere and apple logo appear. It starting booting and then just stopped. the screen froze and nothing was working. I've tried booting up in safe mode and again it just freezes.
Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated as I'm lost without my computer. I've included a photo I've taken if the frozen screen.
    Many Thanks,
    Dean.

According to MacBook Pro (Early 2008 and Late 2008) - Technical Specifications you have a model with
NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT graphics processor with dual-link DVI support and 512MB of GDDR3 memory
Dual display and video mirroring: Simultaneously supports full native resolution on the built-in display and up to 2560 by 1600 pixels on an external display, both at millions of colors
    DVI output port
VGA output using included DVI to VGA adapter
    Built-in iSight camera
The 8600M GT has several recalls for GPUs, which had a 4-year free repair from date of purchase. It may be too late in your case. You can find the recall notices via internet search if you want to.
You should run the AHT -Using Apple Hardware Test

  • Vertical Purple and Green lines on start up!

    Hi,
I was using Logic X (10.1) and all of a sudden my screen went totally grey and I could here a constant click on my headphones.
After about a minute my Mac restarted itself and on the startup screen displayed thick vertical purple and green lines.
Once it had finished loading up it then went on to a blank white screen and then stayed on this blank white.
I shut down my Mac the restarted it three times and have encountered the same problem every time.
Any help or advice as to what may have caused this and or how it could be fixed?
    Thanks in advance.

  • When I export a video in Premiere, the colors flash purple and green. Why?

I bought the software just recently but I have exported files before and they worked fine.  I have a few speculations but I wanted to get an opinion.  I dont know what to do if my speculations are right either.
    1. I used a small digital camera so the format may be unsupported.  It looks fine in the preview but when I set preview quality to maximum it flashes purple and green.  I have, on the same timeline, a small logo animation I made using after effects and that part looks fine.
    2. I used after effects to color correct the video segements and then exported them as .mov's.  They look fine after they are exported.  Maybe this is causing a problem though?
    3.  I noticed that I have been making the comps in after effects, 24 fps but when i looked at the settings in Premiere it says it is at 30 fps.  But I didnt see another option there.
Are any of these the problem?  Any advice or suggestions?  What should I do to fix it/prevent it in the future?
    Thank you!

  • Purple and green blotches with Nikon D700 raws

I'm getting some purple and green blotches (mostly purple) with Nikon D700 raws when using the "Camera Standard" profile. This happens a lot during sunset-ish shots. The problem goes away when I select the "Adobe Standard" the profile.
I just tried ACR 6.3 RC and the problem still exists. is this a known issue?
Would be happy to share a raw + screenshots if needed (currently on a relatively low bandwidth connection)
    Thanks,

  • Red and Green Pixels on Display

I have a Mac Pro 1,1. Tonight the display starting looking like the screen shot attached. Then it wouldn't come up at all. Black screen, with a few bands of green pixels.
My first thought is that the Graphics Card is going bad. Odd thing is, though, that I captured this via screen capture from another Mac. Could it still be a bad GPU if it looks this way remotely? I'm not sure how these early Mac Pros work. I have Mac minis that, when the display is off (or headless), the GPU is not used to render the GUI via screen sharing. So, I tried disconnecting the display from the Mac Pro, and I get the same screen shot.
I can boot the Mac Pro into Safe Mode, but that is it.
    Any ideas?

  • New imac displays horizontal grey bars and green pixels on startup and then freezes on a light grey screen

This is happening on a brand new 21 inch imac, all new specs released a few days ago.
This happened the first time I started up the imac straight out of the box. The screen displays alternating light and dark grey bars with green pixel specs all over it. The apple symbol and and loading symbol are visible too - but it then goes to a light grey screen and freezes.
If I manualy restart it will then startup normaly but will do this next time I startup the machine from a cold start.
Does anyone else have this issue. This is my first mac and it doesn't seem acceptable to me. I think I've been sent a dud!
Any help / opinions would be helpful. Cheers

I wouldn't try to solve this issue by troubleshooting a brand new machine. My personal policy is if an electronic device is malfunctioning out of the box, I return it for a replacement. We're talking about an expensive purchase and it should work, but even with stringent quality control a small number of products will fail out of the box. You didn't mention whether you ordered it online or purchased it at an Apple store. If you can, get a new machine at an Apple store and take advantage of the free setup. An Apple salesperson will start it in the store, so you'll know before leaving if it's good.

  • Green screen upon startup and green pixels afterwards

Last night I switched from the dining room table to the bedroom. When I turned on my laptop in the bedroom (about 10 minutes after moving) it started up by flashing with a black then green screen and would not load. I was able to finally get it to load but when it first starts up it is a green screen that looks like it has diagonal wavy lines with the verbiage in the lower left for pressing esc for boot setup. Once it loads it has green pixels everywhere and when I open control panel where the white is normally, there is purple color. I did notice that a Windows update happened. I have tried to do a system restore but it doesnt get ride of it. I do have pictures but not sure how to post them from my phone.

  • All of a sudden tons of stuck and dead pixels on Retina display!

My MacBook Pro Retina is just about a year old. When the computer was only a few months old I had the display replace due to stuck pixels.
Now it's a year old (just 2 weeks out of warranty!) and all of a sudden there are a TON of stuck and dead pixels.
I mean A LOT: about 30 - 40 stuck pixels (all of them seem to be blue or white, I can't really tell), and maybe about 20 - 30 dead pixels. They are harder for me to see. The stuck pixels make the screen almost unusable though.
About a week ago I noticed one giant stuck pixel (probably a cluster of 4) but now, all of a sudden they are speckled all over the screen (but mostly in the same area where I found the first one.
Is my display just dying on me?
Is Apple going to make me pay for a new retina display (it's 15"). How much will that cost??
The display shouldn't die like this so soon, especially since it is already a relatively new screen (replaced once already).

I would go to Apple and ask nicely since it is only 2 weeks out of warranty and was already replaced once.
