Purple dots on iPhone?

I just got the iphone 3g at launch and everything seemed fine. Today i noticed that there were three purple dots in the top left corner of the phone next to the receiver. I tried looking everywhere to see if anybody else had this problem but nobody seems to have this problem. I noticed it when there was sunlight.

These are definitely sensors! I haven't seen much mentioned about this in the reviews, but lots of people had problems with the sensor being above the ear speaker. Certain cases interfered with it, and sometimes the phone would become live/light up and a user's face could hit the speakerphone or end call buttons. With the sensors on the side now, this is less unlikely!

  • Purple dots on iPhone 4S

I've had my iPhone 4S for about 1 year and when I use the camera 2 purple dots appear on the screen. I think this is something in the camera lens. I domt have warranty on the iPhone so how much would it cost roughly ?

    Hello singhmaan7,
Thank you for the question.  I found an article that addresses a purple spot that might appear when taking pictures with the iPhone camera:
    Symptoms
A purplish or other colored flare, haze, or spot is imaged from out-of-scene bright light sources during still image or video capture.
    Resolution
Most small cameras, including those in every generation of iPhone, may exhibit some form of flare at the edge of the frame when capturing an image with out-of-scene light sources. This can happen when a light source is positioned at an angle (usually just outside the field of view) so that it causes a reflection off the surfaces inside the camera module and onto the camera sensor. Moving the camera slightly to change the position at which the bright light is entering the lens, or shielding the lens with your hand, should minimize or eliminate the effect.

  • I have not been able to get the built-in iPhone 4S keyboard dictation to work. I talk into it, then tap "Done", then the phone "thinks" for a few seconds (the purple dots pulse and I see the network icon on the top bar spinning) and then nothing happens.

    Siri is wroking fine

I am experiencing exactly the same problem, today, and a reset, of all settings, did nothing to correct it.  Any suggestions would be welcome.  While dictation in all apps is out, Siri is working fine also.

  • IPhone camera purple dots

Just today I went to snapchat and found that there was purple dots on my screen, thought it was something stuck to the outside of the rear camera but I cleaned it and it's still there, went onto my actual camera and there is actually 2 there not just the one
I saw someone asked this before and the reply was take it to the apple store as it had happened to a few others who then got a replacement, but as my phone is out of warranty now, I don't think I'll get a replacement
What should I do as I don't really like the idea of paying about £250 for a refurbished phone but also don't want to use a camera that has noticeable purple dots

  • Green and purple dots iMac 27

I have seen posts on this -- green and purple dots appearing on screen for iMac 27 -- -solution was to upgrade firmware but the upgrades suggested were for different graphics cards than i have -- -
Graphics  ATI Radeon HD 5750 1024 MB
Is there a firmware update for this graphics card to address this issue?
    Thanks - rberger25

Wish-to-God - as an avid Mac aficionade since 1984 - that they'd do the same with MY 27" mid-2010 i5, too - or at least SOLVE THIS COMMON PROBLEM??!!
Mine, too, seems precipitated by going to sleep: I let mine run continally ('cept the display), and each morning now (for weeks, it seems) I'm greeted by an alert stating my OS X encountered a problem, and needed to restart.
Today - for the first time - I faced a dark blue screen, with only my cursor appearing .. outlined in white.
As nothing would allow me to access the computer, I had to manually restart from this "freeze" - twice.
Same ATI Radeon HD 5750 1024 MB as rberger25 noted above.
MY AppleCare has been expired for probably six months now - and the nearest Apple store is 200 miles from me...
Despite three iPhone 4S's, two iPad 4 Retina's, a MacBookPro Retina 15", a couple of Apple TV's, a new Airport Extreme, and another two iMac 24's in my present "stable", I seriously doubt Apple will give me the time of day with regard to this specific malady... although support has always been superb and responsive to queries regarding those items still under active AppleCare warranties (unfailingly purchased with each new device).
Just seems a shame to be so easily "forgotten" when it comes to a significant, widespread, common problem with such an expensive device....

  • My Macbook Pro *****! I have had it for 2 weeks now, got it brand new at the apple store, it freezes all the time, and reboots itself, sometimes when i start it, purple dots cover the screen and i have to hold the power button.

I have had it for 2 weeks now, got it brand new at the apple store, it freezes all the time, and reboots itself, sometimes when i start it, purple dots cover the screen and i have to hold the power button. a 2 week old computer is not supposed to do this! it wastes all its time being so flashy that it just craps out all the time. sometimes i feel like i should have stayed with my virus covered PC. at least when it shut down randomly you could turn it back on, but with the macbook pro, it just keeps restarting itself over and over. need help with this, any answers?

Here's a novel thought. Take it back to the vendor. Should have done that one week ago.

  • Green and purple dots on screen (fixed!)

So I had green and purple dots all over the screen of my iMac (10.5.6, intel 24"). The dots would disappear briefly when windows were dragged over them. Green dots appeared on black backgrounds and purple dots appeared on lighter backgrounds (e.g. "about this mac" was really bad). I didn't find the solution anywhere and several people reported needing to replace their hardware. With the help of a technician at Apple, we figure out the fix (in my case).
    Here's what didn't work:
    - shutting off the machine and unpowering for 15 seconds
    - resetting the PRAM
    Here's what DID work:
    - go to Utilities
    - go to Disk Utility
    - select Macintosh HD
    - press "verify disk permission" (and wait a long long time)
    - press "repair disk permission" (and wait a long long time)
    - reboot
This fixed it. Apparently errors on disk impact bits in displaying certain things. Who knew.
Anyway, I hope this helps someone else.
    Nate

    OK. Thanks.
I noticed that when I ran the verify/repair permissions again, it found some, repaired it, and the dots went away again. That would indicate a hardware problem.

  • I am getting green and purple dots

I am getting green and purple dots. When I click on icon with video for file info on my 27inch IMAC G5 Quad Intel. Dots are all over the screen. When I grab a window around the screen these tiny green-purple dots and they disappear.

    Hello,
Have you blown the dust out lately?
Get Temperature Monitor to see if it's heat related...
    http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/12381/temperature-monitor
    iStat Menus...
    http://bjango.com/mac/istatmenus/
    And/or iStat Pro...

BTW, no G5, those were IBM CPUs, yours is Intel i5.

  • Samsung HD LCD. Purple dots after powering on

Samsung LCD. HD, Direct TV.. Hit the power button on the Direct TV remote, TV makes the beeping noises like it's turning on.. Nothing. Try again, picture comes up, but has purple dot pixels on the screen. Power off, turn on again and it's fine.. any ideas?

That's a very common problem, among others, with Samsung's 2007 models. I have a 4665f purchased from BB as well that's started giving it's first signs of the usual bad capacitor problems.
Mine seems to be suffering from soon to fail capacitors on the power board since it wouldn't power on a few days ago until it had been unplugged for awhile. And has also started experiencing random audio dropouts. I was glad when I remembered paying the extra $249 at the time for the service plan, but not so glad when I found my receipt and remembered that it's just the Product Service Plan, and not the standard Product Replacement Plan, so I'm about to get my first experience with my local BB's tv repair crew, or whoever they may contract it out to if there is such a place here in my town.
Not sure if I'm allowed to post links to other forums here, but you can find a great owner's thread over at the AVS Forums site that will give more info on your, unfortunately, common problem.

  • IDVD purple dots

Hello, I'm getting purple dots all over the screen when previewing my video.  I exported from FCP to full quicktime file. Any ides?

    Hi
Either a dying Graphic card - or something wrong in the way from FinalCut to iDVD. That I do like this (collected notes)
    FCE/P to iDVD
    Several things
    • How to go from FCE/P to iDVD
    • Free space on Start-up hard disk
    • Encoding
    • Brand and type of DVDs used
    • Burn speed set
    • iDVD BUG
    • Chapters
How to go from FCE/P to iDVD I do
    • Disable Screen and Energy saver
    • IMPORTANT --> FIRST in FinalCut - Mix Down Audio under Sequence Menu / Render Only / Mix-down
    • Export out as a QuickTime .mov file
    • Select with Mark - Chapter Mark
    • Not as Self-Contained (not important but saves time and space)
    • NO QUICKTIME CONVERSION (IMPORTANT)
This QT.mov file I import into iDVD from within iDVD.
Free space on Start-up hard disk
I set a minimum of 25GB (for Mac OS and iDVDs temp files)
    Encoding
    • I use Pro Quality encoding
Brand and type of DVDs used
    • I use Verbatim
    • I use DVD-R
    Burn speed set
    • I set down this to x4 (or x1)
    iDVD BUG
    • One can not go back to movie-project for any alterations and then go back to
the iDVD project. It will notice and ask You to either Up-date or Cancel. Neither
    of them will work.
Medicine - Start a brand new iDVD project.
    Use of Chapters
    • I only use a to z and 0 to 9 in naming them. NO other symbol/letter !
    • NO Chapter-mark at very beginning - iDVD NEEDS TO set this by it self
    • No Chapter marks in or within two seconds from a transition
(Way around this last one - Export movie as QT full quality and NO Chapter marks
Import this into a new Movie-project and now You are free to set C-Ms where You want
them except at very beginning - still)
    Material used to build movie
    • video - I use streamingDV (or convert all other to this e.g. .mp4, .avi, .wmv etc)
    • audio - I use .aiff 16-bit 48kHz or from Audio-CD (44.1kHz) - no .mp3 or direct from iTunes
    • photos - I use .jpg - no .bmp etc
Trash iDVD pref. file and run Repair Permissions - and have a re-try.
    from post ??
May not be relevant, but I had the same problem with iDVD, where burned DVDs showed a green screen. It was cured by quitting Quicksilver and Quickeys as well as disabling sleep and screen-saving

  • 3 purple dots...  iMessage / Message / Voice / Microphone

If I try to use the mike anywhere in the message(s), I get nothing to show up.
    Example.
Received a text this morning from a client.  I went to reply and hit the Microphone to submit a reply.  I was just saying, "Confirmed, will see you at 1:30" and then I get 3 purple dots doing something, then nothing happens and the dots go away.
I have tried using voice in the subject, in the body, in a new message, in a reply, in the name field, etc..  I only get 3 purple dots and then nothing.
I must have something set wrong somewhere.
    Help?

Thank you Chris - my signal was fine - I just did an update to 6.1 and it seems to have fixed the problem. I was avoiding the update because I was getting a warning that some of my apps on my phone wouldn't transfer to my laptop for backup during the sync process. So the update fixed the voice translator problem, but I'm hoping it didn't cause any new problems. I'll wait and see.

  • There is a black/purple dot on my screen present when I try to take a photo on my back facing Iphone 5 camera

Yes, take it to your nearest Apple store.

  • Funny purple dots in the top of phone

ok im having none of the problems that are being discussed [except battery ofcourse].but i dont want to post a dumb topic. i am a first time iphone owner [3g model] and im noticing three purple-ish dots on the top of my phone. there above the screen on the left side. there are two side by side and one one top. it only shows up sometimes.[i noticed it today while sitting outside] i was just wondering was this something thats there for a reason or not?

If you are talking about the area next to the speaker at the top of the phone, those are the proximity sensors that know when you put the phone up to your face so that you don't accidently hang up on someone or touch a button.
