Purple & Green Lines from Footage Taken on Canon XF300

Hey guys,
I am currently working on a project with a Canon XF300. I have taken all the footage that I need, but when I import the files onto my Mac I am getting purple and green lines over parts of the footage (see image). When playing the footage directly on a TV with a HDMI cable these do not appear, so I am assuming it has something to do with the format. I have converted the MXF files to various other formats, but the problem has not disappeared. I have tested the footage in various media playback suites and imported the converted files into FCPX, but the problem still persists.
Does anyone know how to fix this problem as I really need to get this footage edited as there is quite a time constraint on it? I would really appreciate the help as I have been struggling with this for a number of days now.
Cheers,
Jeremiah.

I'd endorse the Applecare with this one. However before you do, try turning the tv off and on while the tv is playing.

I am having a problem with my brand new MacBook Pro. After opening my laptop the other day I noticed a straight green line from top to bottom near the center of the screen. What is this from and how do I get rid of it? It is most annoying. Please Help!

Such symptoms bode serious hardware issues and you shouldn't think about fixing it yourself when you are still in waranty. Get to an Apple Store, like the other poster suggests.

  • How can I remove red and green lines from a footage?

I cannot remove red and green lines without removing the title graphics that I have in my footage. How can I solve the problem and keep the graphic there?

    @Ann Benns
I will try to do that. Thank you!
    @Bill Hunt
Well, the raw footage is an avi filmed with a handycam. This error occurred
the next day after I finished the editing in Adobe Premiere cs5. It might
be something wrong with the title graphics that I use, but still if there's
a solution I would like to find it out as this error occurred before.

  • Laserjet 2605dn color printing problem, Blue/green line on page.

I have an HP color laserjet 2605dn that has started to print a faint, thin  blue/green line from top to bottom about 3 inches in from the entire right edge of every page. I ran the cleaning cycle with no change. Any suggestions on how to correct this?

I have very similar problem on my 2600n which is printing 2 vertical green lines very close together about 1.5 inches from left edge. All toners are in supply override mode with black toner reading: Estimated Pages Remaining 0
Color cartridges contain toner with 329 pp remaining according to supply status page.
Is this problem likely to disappear when toner cartridge(s) are replaced?

  • How do I see the time stamp from footage

I was wondering if it is possible to see time stamps from footage taken by GoPro camera in FCPX. I can see the duration of the clips and the DATE it was created. I would like to see the actual time it was created. I have 2 cameras that were shooting at the same time and I would like an easier way of sifting through all of the clips to mary them up.
Is there a way to see the time stamp of when the video was taken?
    Thanks

Got ya. I will suggest one more thing: You can add "markers" at points where you can visually (or aurally) see (or hear) a synch point. Once you add these markers, "synchronize clip" will begin to grind out the rest.
Again, if you look at the above tutorial, I think it explains this under "manual" synch.
I don't mean to push this upon you, but... FCPX is GREAT for multi-cam synch. It is the best--I think--in the industry.
Good luck. Sorry if I'm of little help beyond this.

  • Ram preview green line goes away when changing zoom level

I did a ram preview of my project, about 12 seconds long.  Everything looks good until I want to zoom in or out on the comp, then the green line disappears and I have to render it over again.  I don't remember AE doing this before.  If I zoom to say 25% and render part of the comp, then zoom to 50%, that part with the green line is gone.  I can render a different segment of the comp while in 50% and switch back to 25%, and the green line from when I rendered at 25% is back.  I've turned off adaptive resolution in the fast preview options, and I turned off the disk cache.  Is this a bug or just the way AE works now?  I'm using CS6 version 11.0.2 on Win7.

Actually, I think I am.  I didn't notice it before, but when I zoom in, if I have the resolution set to Auto, it changes between quarter, half and full depending on the zoom level.  I've never noticed that before, or maybe they only recently made it so it didn't say Auto all the time, but now says what effective resolution it's set to.  So is that the answer to my problem?  Leave it on full resolution (or whatever I need at the time)?

  • Thin green line at the bottom of my QT exports from FCP

    Hello,
I have exported a series of QT vids from FCP. Each QT video file exhibits a thin (2 px)green line at the bottom of the player window. I can't seem to narrow down what is making this line appear. Can you please offer some suggestions? Remedies?
    Thanks so much in advance.
    Utilizing:
    Quicktime Conversion
    optimized for broadband Large
    H.264 codec for HD footage
Custom 660x377 frame size (varied to see if that would fix the issue, did not)

So you only see it in QT Fullscreen mode?
The reason I'm pressing this is that I've seen green lines LIKE this with issues resulting from what seems like a very hot video card.
Usually they 1) aren't that crisp and 2) don't always show up each time you view it.
And this is AFTER compression, yes? For sure this isn't on the original material? Make sure you set your canvas in FCP to 100% size to see all of the lines.

  • Vertical Purple and Green lines on start up!

    Hi,
I was using Logic X (10.1) and all of a sudden my screen went totally grey and I could here a constant click on my headphones.
After about a minute my Mac restarted itself and on the startup screen displayed thick vertical purple and green lines.
Once it had finished loading up it then went on to a blank white screen and then stayed on this blank white.
I shut down my Mac the restarted it three times and have encountered the same problem every time.
Any help or advice as to what may have caused this and or how it could be fixed?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Green line on the side of my export from an image sequence

I have created an image sequence
at 1024x768. I bring it into PP CS4 and on the far right side there is a green line running top to bottom. The timeline is the same size as the image sequence. What would cause this and how do I get rid of it?

  • Green and Purple Horizontal line on top of video ...

For some reason I'm getting a flickering green and purplish line on the top one or two pixels of every video I encode to H.264 through Compressor. I've heard the "even number theory" and its not working. Even heard the "divisible by 16 theory". NOT WORKING. So ... any have a real solution here? Thanks!

    here is the theory:
It's not really an aspect ratio problem, it's a dimension problem when encoding to h.264. I just posted this in another thread a few minutes ago.
"Divide the height and width of the video by 16. If you get an uneven number your more than likely will get a green line when encoding to h.264. H.264 encodes in blocks of 16 pixels. For example: 720x405...
    720=45
    405=25.3125
When I a get a video with a dimension of 720x405, common dimensions for a dvd 16x9 square pixels video. I'll trim off 5 pixels and set the height size to 400.
Also if you encode sizes by 16, you'll get a better encoding."

  • Vertical Green Lines

I am having a VERY annoying problem in final cut. All of my footage now has green vertical lines running through it.
Here is a picture of what it looks like:
    http://www.flickr.com/photos/36458218@N08/4731527252/
When I open the source footage from the browser, everything looks fine, but the same clips in the timeline do not. If I do "replace edits" on all of the cuts, it fixes the problem temporarily, but soon it comes back. Exporting the video sometimes seems to help (i exported it once as prores from FCP and it was fine, I exported it once as H.264 through compressor and it had the lines).
I have also tried using a preferences manager to backup, delete, and restore my preferences but that didn't help.
Making a new sequence or even project and copying the cut over didnt help.
For the record this only seems to have affected this one project so far that I have noticed. I have opened the project on another mac and it worked fine.
Any ideas?? I am stumped. It sounds like it is my final cut, computer, or maybe video card? Im not sure and could use any advice you have.
    Thank you

Called apple care today and they suggested I try the exported files on another comp to see if they work. They also suggested I make a new user account and try to run FCP there.
I don't have immediate access to another computer, BUT I did try the new account. Opening the exported H.264 file that I made in my main account still showed the green lines, but when I started FCP the problem didn't seem to be there (although since the problem was sometimes spotty that doesn't necessarily mean its fixed but I played with it for a while and seemed to be working). Also, I was able to export a copy of the film that did NOT have the green lines on it (when viewed from either account). So this leads me to believe it is a software based issue of some kind, although I can't really think of what to do.
    Any suggestions?

  • Green line on right edge

I have a bright green line appearing along the right side of the movie in the DVD presentation. I have read over other people similar problems in this forum but none of their solutions worked for me.
I am creating a slideshow in iphoto, using non-DRM music from itunes, and putting it together in iDVD. But once the movie burned onto a disk a green line appears on the right side. I have tried trimming the size of the movie in quicktime. I have tried setting the quality to professional in iDVD. I even restarted the iDVD project and still, every time, I find a bright green boarder on the right.
What else can I do to get rid of it? I have wasted some 10 DVDs on this and the money for registering quicktime but still no solution. Thank you.

Aspect may be a hair off. I'm thinking you might get better results with with 854 x 480 (assuming you are working with widescreen / ntsc format).
    To quote iDvd's Help Menu:
About resizing images for menu backgrounds
You can use images to create backgrounds for menus. iDVD works with most image formats supported by QuickTime (including JPEG, TIFF, and PDF).
Images in a menu background are automatically cropped to fit the standard DVD window size, but the aspect ratio of the original image is preserved. For example, a picture taken vertically (also known as “portrait format”) may appear with black bands on either side of it to fill out the screen. If you want an image to fit the DVD window exactly, use an image-editing application to resize the image before bringing it into iDVD. Resize to these dimensions:

720 x 540 pixels for standard video in NTSC format

854 x 480 pixels for widescreen in NTSC format

768 x 576 pixels for standard video in PAL format

1024 x 576 pixels for widescreen in PAL format
    Preparing images for iDVD slideshows
You can use photos, movies, presentation slides (created in a program such as Keynote), or other image files in a slideshow created in iDVD. iDVD works with any image file that is supported by QuickTime (including PICT, JPEG, TIFF, and PDF.) You can also use photos directly from your iPhoto library.
Images and movies in a slideshow are scaled to fit the standard DVD window size, but the aspect ratio is preserved. For example, a picture taken vertically (also known as “portrait format”) may have black bands on either side of it to fill out the screen. If you want an image to fit the DVD window exactly, use an image-editing application to resize the image before bringing it into iDVD. (It is not possible to resize movies.) Resize to these dimensions:

720 x 540 pixels for standard video in NTSC format

854 x 480 pixels for widescreen in NTSC format

768 x 576 pixels for standard video in PAL format

1024 x 576 pixels for widescreen in PAL format
You can also make sure images in iDVD are always scaled to a size that will fit within the area visible on most TV screens, or the “TV safe area.”
To fit slides into the TV safe area:
    Choose iDVD > Preferences.
    Click Slideshow.
Select the checkbox labeled “Always scale slides to TV Safe Area.”

  • Confused about TM's 'grey' & 'purple' horizontal lines in timeline

    I have Lion OS 10.7
Whenever I connect my LaCie external HD and click on TM, the Star Field timeline would show both Grey and Purple horizonal lines.
Grey horizontal lines being TM's Snapshots
Purple horizontal lines being my external HD
I just downloaded software from the Apple and when I enter the Star Field, there are no grey horizontal lines.  If my LaCie is not connected, a pop up box says that my 'TM backup disk can't be found.'
But, I have entered the Sar Field in the past without my LaCie connected and there used to show about a week of TM snapshots, all grey horizontal lines in the timeline.
Has something changed?  Is TM snapshots still taking place when I am away from my external HD?
    Thanks for your help,
    B.

You're saying you select Enter Time Machine from the menu bar and nothing happens? If so, proceed as below.
Please try each of the steps below that you haven't already taken.
    Step 1
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the page that opens.
Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Try again to enter Time Machine. Post any messages that appear in the Console window – the text, please, not a screenshot.
    Step 2
If you're backing up to an external hard drive attached to your Mac, open the backup volume in the Finder. You should see a folder with the name "Backups.backupdb". You should not see a file with a name ending in "sparsebundle". If you do see that, the backup was created over a network and can only be used that way.
    Step 3
Launch Disk Utility and select the icon of the backup drive in the pane on the left (not any of the volume icons below it.) At the bottom of the window, you should see this:
Partition Map Scheme : GUID Partition Table
If the partition scheme is anything else, the drive has to be repartitioned (with the loss of all data.)
    Step 4
In the Finder, select Go ▹ Go to Folder... from the menu bar, copy the text on the line below into the box that opens, and press return:
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist
Move the selected file to the Desktop, leaving the Finder window open for now.
Relaunch the Finder by selecting  ▹ Force Quit... from the menu bar, then selecting Finder and pressing return. Your Finder settings will be lost.
Try again to enter Time Machine. If you still can't, put back the file you moved to the Desktop, replacing the newer one that will have been created in its place.
Otherwise, close the Finder window you opened and delete the file you moved to the Desktop. Recreate your Finder preferences.
    Step 5
Boot in safe mode by holding down the shift key at the startup chime. Try again to enter Time Machine.
Note: If FileVault is enabled under OS X 10.7 or later, or if a firmware password is set, you can’t boot in safe mode.

You have Canon ZR950 mini DV Camcorder, why not make a firewire connection and do DV data capture into the Premiere Elements 8.0/8.0.1 Capture Window?
Do you have any reference for what you are attempting to do or is this a creation of your own? Could you confirm what you describe as "just capturing video".
    a. From your information, you are doing Get Media/Webcam or WDM Device with the Capture Window showing the Capturing Device as "Dazzle DVD 100 Video Device". What type of connection are you making between the Canon ZR950 and the Dazzle DVD 100 and the computer?
    b. What exactly do you expect to be putting on the Premiere Elements 8.0/8.0.1 Timeline from this capture...DV AVI or something else?
Coming from the perspective of Premiere Elements 8.0/8.0.1 known issues, I would ask you to consider:
    a. Remove the check mark next to AutoAnalyzer in the Capture window. Even if you were doing this Capture the "usual way", that is highly recommended.
    b. Go to Edit Menu/Preferences/General, and compare your results with and without a check mark next to enable GPU playback. As a cross reference, please go to Edit Header/Effects/Video Effects and detemine if there is a category of Effects named GPU Effects. Do the same thing for Edit Header/Transitions/Video Transitions and determine if there is a category of Transitions named GPU Transitions.
And, the general drill for all users of Premiere Elements 8.0
    a. Are you working with the automatic Background Rendering and AutoAnalzyer Features turned Off?
See Premiere Elements workspace Edit Menu/Preferences/General for background rendering option and Elements Organizer workspace Edit Menu/Preferences/AutoAnalzyer Options for AutoAnalzyer options.
    b. Are you working from the 8.0.1 Update version of the program?
    Please consider.
We will be watching for the outcome.
    Thank you.

  • HDV sequence has green lines and pink dots after export

I digitized some HDV footage from a Sony HVR-VIU into Final cut Pro 7. Everything worked normally through the edit. After exporting the sequence as a quicktime movie, it played back fine as a quicktime. When I attempted to convert it to a media file in Sorenson Squeeze, the file showed up with green lines and pink dots over the picture. To test it differently, I dropped the file into IDVD. Same, result in playback. I've never seen anything like this before, any ideas?

Brad your article was extremely helpful in getting my sequence to work for a DVD. However, I've had success before using the same camera, format, etc., in making DVD's from an HDV sequence, and I'm curious as to what I did wrong this time. The most confusing part to me is that the original quicktime self-contained export played fine through quicktime, but got funky when placed into IDVD and Sorenson's Squeeze compressor. I must have done something wrong up front in digitizing or making settings in FCP, and I'd like to know what it was so I don't do it in the future. Thanks.
