Purple "smudges" in camera app, only in rear camera

I have these two purple "smudges" when I use the rear camera in the camera app.
This image shows an unaltered image (except for cropping in order to show up here) of a picture I shot from my iPhone.
Interestingly, if I zoom in far enough when I take a picture they disappear completely.
Here's a screenshot I took of the iPhone's camera app showing how far I have to zoom in in order for the "smudges" to disappear completely.

What are these "smudges"? How can I get rid of them? I know they're not lens flare.

im also having a problem on my iPhone 4 that just started today, about 100 or so photos and videos just completely disappeared.. basically it shows the last 4-5 photos that i took, and then the first 50 or so.. everything in between is gone.
when i view from the camera vs the photos app the last 4-5 differ.. so who knows *** is going on...
but if you download a program called iExplorer you can view and download everything, as all the files are still there

Like most other problems, do the basic troubleshooting steps described in the User Guide:
Restart phone
Reset phone
Restore in iTunes using a backup
Restore in iTunes as new, without using a backup
If restoring as new doesn't help, there is a hardware failure that needs warranty service from Apple.
If your phone has EVER been jailbroken, all bets are off...

Double tap Home button and delete Camera app from multitask-list.
Do a
Reset: Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Note: You will not lose any data
If problem persist, make an appointment with genius bar for evaluation.

IOS 6 shutter lag on iPhone 4 - camera app only

After updating my iPhone 4 to ios 6, the camera app has almost 2 seconds of shutter lag. Taking pictures in other apps works fine (such as Messages). My wife's iPhone 4 is doing the same thing with iOS 6. Any suggestions to get rid of this annoying bug?

Finally tried rebooting (holding down home and power buttons until Apple logo appears) and that seems to have fixed it and potentially some other minor issues.

When I open the camera app all I get is a black screen. If I choose FaceTime or photo booth it works just fine so camera itself is fine. It seems to be the app that is not fine.

Quit the camera app completely and then try it again..
Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the task bar will appear with all of your recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button.
Try the camera app again.

Try pressing and holding the Home and Power buttons and keep doing that until the Apple icon appears. This is basically a reboot and won't delete any files.

IPhone 5 purple smudge in Camera photos

I recently bought the iPhone 5 and am loving it so far, but recently a purple smudge began to appear when using the camera. I went to my wireless carrier since it was within the period of time to exchange and they said it is a software issue? The problem is that this purple smudge moves around when I tap the camera lenses. Is it truly a software issue? It's not the purple flare issue that I have.

I have had this issue before and am currently getting it again now.
It is not software. I had my first iphone 5 replaced due to mould growing on the lens. Causing smudges on my photos. My replacement iphone 5 is currently growing mould and i have a genius bar appointment tonight to have it replaced again.
Screw your carrier, they know nothing, take it closet apple store and have it replaced.

The rear camera isn't working on my iPhone 4s

I can access the camera but the only one that works is my front camera. When I open the camera app all i get is a black screen when i try to use the rear camera.

Mine is doing exactly the same thing. The front facing camera is just as good as it ever was! My phone can tell the rear camera isn't working too. SnapChat does not even give an option to turn the camera around to the rear camera, the flashlight app is lighting up the screen like it can tell the flash wont go on and the phone flashlight has it grayed out so I cant even try to use it.
My phone is past the 1 year warrenty so they wont replace it if this is a hardware issue. Restarting and restoring settings is not working.

Xperia Multi-Camera App

Why is the connection between my Z3C & Z2 tablet so flak? It only seems to work randomly & ends up with either device just beeping, or me <bleeping>at them.
Both devices running 4.4.4 & only seems to work if both are already in the Camera app & set to Multi-Camera mode. And on the same wifi connection & the right phase of the moon ... or something. It seems a lot of work for not very much reward.

That is exactly how it is supposed to work. Not necessarily the phase of the moon. But everything else is right on.

How do I go about fixing my rear camera lens? It's all foggy (maybe scratched)

so every time i go into the camera setting for the rear camera it is always foggy and takes horrible pics. is it possibly scratched or broke somehow?

Hiya, your iPhone 4 may have condensation on the camera, this would cause it to take foggy photos. Mist may appear underneath the glass on the back of the iphone where the camera is. You can get rid of condensation or water in the iPhone 4 by putting it in a bowl/bag of uncooked rice, put the iPhone in it (completely covered in rice) and leave it for at least a couple of hours possibly even a day. This will absorb moisture and hopefully solve the problem, if they are scratches, as the previous comment states, it isn't covered by the warranty. Apple would have to replace the glass backing and would give you a price once they've had a look at it. If it isn't condensation and it's not scratched, it could possibly be that the autofocus on the iPhone 4 has stopped working, this would cost a lot more because the camera would need replacing (unless it's just a software issue). Best thing to do after trying everything you can is to take it to an Apple Store and have them take a good look at it and tell you what the problem is.

Try resetting your phone by holding down the home and off button until the apple symbol comes up. Then if still doing, restore your phone in itunes from your backup.

Warranty on the issue of purple spot in images taken from rear camera?

My iPhone 5 have purple spot in images taken from rear camera. I just noticed the issue in my phone today.
I researched online and some people also have the same issue and have their phone replaced in Apple shops.
I don't have any receipt or store warranty card since it was just given to me as a gift in the Philippines last April 2013, I checked the warranty coverage status (https://selfsolve.apple.com/agreementWarrantyDynamic.do) and it still has repair and service coverage.

The warranty for an iPhone purchased from an official source in the Philippines will be honored in the Philippines only.

Helix + Onenote Rear Camera only produces still

One of the great features of onenote is recording audio/video while taking notes.
On the Helix, this works as expected with the front camera and just audio. However, when switched to the rear camera it looks like it is recording, but in fact there is only one still there.
(It is an improved with windows 8.1 though. In Windows 8 OneNote did not even detect the rear camera).
Has anyone a clue why this is not working?
Interesting detail: If i try to record a video in the standard camera app, I get the error message that something went wrong ....

Camera isn't functioning or has undesired image quality
If the screen shows a closed lens or black image, force quit the Camera app.
If you do not see the Camera app on the Home screen, try searching for it in Spotlight. If the camera does not show up in the search, check to make sure that Restrictions are not turned on by tappingSettings > General > Restrictions.
Ensure the camera lens is clean and free from any obstructions. Use a microfiber polishing cloth to clean the lens.
Cases can interfere with the camera and the flash. Try gently cleaning the lens with a clean dry cloth or removing the case if you see image or color-quality issues with photos.
Try turning iPhone off and then back on.
Tap to focus the camera on the subject. The image may pulse or briefly go in and out of focus as it adjusts.
Try to remain steady while focusing:
Still images: Remain steady while taking the picture. If you move too far in any direction, the camera automatically refocuses to the center.
Note: If you take a picture with iPhone turned sideways, it is automatically saved in landscape orientation.
Video: Adjust focus before you begin recording. You can also tap to readjust focus while recording. Exiting the Camera application while recording will stop recording and will save the video to the Camera Roll.
Note: Video-recording features are not available on original iPhone or iPhone 3G.
If your iPhone has a front and rear camera, try switching between them to verify if the issue persists on both.

The rear facing camera is now showing specs and a purple spec right in the middle of the viewing area. I have cleaned the outside of the phone and it still has dirt specs.

Camera works, with the side buttons it takes pictures.

First try a restore from backup
If problem still occurs try a restore to factory defaults/new Pod.
If still occurs likely a hardware problem and an appoitment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.
