Purpose of All Movies Folder

What is the purpose of the All Movies Folder contained in the finder?
I see many movie files I completed and movies I viewed on line.
Can I delete these files when I'm finished with them.
thanks ,Gene

Hi Gene
Welcome to Apple Discussions
The purpose of the Movie Folder is to is to have easy access to your Movie files!
Sure you can delete or drag to the trash any file in that folder that you no longer want to save.

You can drag them out of the trash folder to wherever you wish. There is no automatic way to restore them.
If you have a recent backup of your computer (at the risk of preaching, everyone should have one), restore them from there.

P.S. I have no clue what you did or why you have 44,000 on the external drive

  • How can I stop extracted clips goes to search for "all movies"?

When you click open a Macintosh system drive that is running Leopard OS X 10.5.2. On the bottom right side, under "SEARCH FOR" you will see "All Movies".
I am reloading all my LOST footage because I deleted clips for more space in the system drive. Right now all extracted clips goes to an External Hard Drive. However, every single clips I extracted are also in the "All Movies: Folder. How can I stop that? Or can I stop that?

Everyone can still use the same Apple ID. What you need to do is go into - "Settings" , "Messages", "Receive At", and add a different Email for each user for where they can be reached for messages at. Once you have added a new Email to each device delete the original Email that was there which should have been the same as your Apple ID. Then when you send a new message, send the message to the Email for that person that was just added to their iPhone. There is no need for each family member to create their own Apple ID just to use iMessage. Each family member would only need to create their own Apple ID if everyone wanted to use iCloud and not have all family members data, contacts, calendars, etc sync together. If you are also using FaceTime between iPhones do the the same thing in the FaceTime settings.

  • How do I upload videos from an SD card to the movies folder in Finder on my iMac?

I'm having trouble uploading videos from my SD card to my iMac. I'm wanting to save it in the "Movies" folder in Finder. When I open the SD card on my iMac, I am able to view the videos in QuickTime Player. They were an AVCHD file format. It gave me no option of saving the videos - not even with dragging them. So, I tried moving all of the files versus just one (in other words, instead of opening the file to view all of the videos, I just dragged the whole file without opening it).  It saved to my iMac, but in the same way as it was on the SD card - I wasn't able to actually save the videos themselves. They were only able to be viewed with QuickTime Player - I couldn't do anything else with them. So, I took my SD card out of the computer and put it back in the video camera. I then realized than I could not view the videos in the camera - they wouldn't show up. I then plugged the SD card back into the iMac. The videos were now saved under a BDMV folder versus the AVCHD folder they had been under earlier. The AVCHD folder was there, but would not open. When I tried to open it, all it said was, "This operation could not be completed." The BDMV folder allows me to view the videos in QuickTime Player, but I still cannot save them to my iMac from the SD card. I even tried saving the videos to iPhoto by dragging the BDMV folder into iPhoto. All it did was say, "The following files could not be imported. The file is in an unrecognizable format." So, now, I am completely confused as to what I need to do as to save the videos onto my computer, and even how the videos are now saved under a BDMV folder versus the original AVCHD folder in the SD card. I'd greatly appreciate it if someone could help me with this problem. Thanks!

You should have an icon of the SD card on the desktop - do you? If not, go to Finder Preferences > General and make sure these items are checked to show:
Once the icon is showing, you can just drag the card content to your desktop. It depends on what you want to do with the video - just watch or edit in iMovie to share online or burn a DVD?

  • Downloads, Photo, Movie folder permissions issue

I just got my 15" macbook pro from the repair shop, the apple store wiped and did a fresh install of 10.8.2.
I began bringing the time machine backup to the folders, I did the Downloads folder, the Movies folder, the Music folder, the Pictures folder.
Once it was finished, I could not enter the folders that were placed on my macbook pro. The system states that I do not have permission to view the folder. I really needed the documents at the time so I went ahead and created new folders of each, adding a "TM" to the end and restored the documents, now my macbook pro is full, it has 1/2 terabyte of storage and has 50gb available. Of course, I went ahead and deleted the folders I do not require for today but will require next week.
I can see that I obviously did the time machine incorrectly on 10.8.2 as previous versions restored perfectly.
I rebooted, opened disk utility and verified disk and permissions, both stated the same thing, OK. I did a disk repair, returned OK.
I don't know what else to do, besides erasing and installing 10.8.2 again. I have not backed up this version because I do not want all of these hundreds of gigabyte space available for selection from the time machine in the future.
    What do I do?
    Thank you in advance.

Are you using the same user name with same password as you were on the old drive?
In any event Change the Permissions on those folders. Right click, Get Info, click Lock icon, type in password, Add your current username to the list and set it as Read & Write, lock the icon.

  • Videos default to movies folder

can any1 help when i put movies into my ipod 160 classic they all go to the movies folder i would like to have some go into music videos , some into tv shows and such is there a way to move this over to each selected folder

I had the same problem and someone was kind enough to help! Here's the scoop... (however I don't have iTunes right in fron to me, so I may be off a bit!) In iTunes, right click on your movie and go to "Get Info". One of the tabs contains a drop down where you can specify what type of clip it is (Movie, TV show, music video). Once selected, it will be removed from the movies area, music videos show up in the music folder. Hope this helps!

  • Creating a Different Movie Folder for Apple TV

I have a lot of family movies that I've shot, edited and sent to my itunes library. All of these are in the Movies folder in itunes.
I would like to be able to segragate my family movies in itunes from my other movies.
When I Cntr click/get info/options/media kind it doesn't give me an option to create a new folder, so I'm stuck with either Movie or TV show.
Can anyone tell me if their is a way of creating a new folder eg 'Family Movies'
    Thanks,
    Steve

    Thanks for the replies..
It sounds like I'm stuick with using Genres as my best option..
It would be a nice and easy feature to implement if Apple gave you a free form option of creating a few new movie folders similar to creating a folder in iphoto.
Creating a playlist is probably a good option for me as well.
    Thanks,
    Steve

  • I cannot open my movies folder after enabling sharing

    Hello,
I recently purchased the mac mini server with osx 10.8.4. I changed some folder settings on this computer to include file sharing (guests with read only access etc.) - some through finder and some through the server app. This includes the main "Movies" folder which is on a partition called "Server HD".
My first clue that something has screwed up is when the file sharing pane within the server application went all grey, and it added another folder with the name "Movies-1" (with the exact same icon that you would normally see in your library - the one with the reel on it).
My second clue was when my guest computer (also mac mini - older, which could read all my other shares including iphoto and other folders) would say "cannot find the original folder" each time i clicke on the Movies folder.
Now I'm stuck - I can't change the settings on the main mac, it says "you have unknown permissions".
An ls -el or ls -l both deny me any access to who owns this folder / group etc. Results pasted below:
    bpmac:~ bpingali$ ls -l
    ls: Movies: Permission denied
    total 0
    drwx------+  5 bpingali  staff   170 Jun 27 19:25 Desktop
    drwx------+ 10 bpingali  staff   340 Jun 27 20:47 Documents
    drwx------+  4 bpingali  staff   136 Jun 26 23:57 Downloads
    drwx------@ 44 bpingali  staff  1496 Jun 27 19:21 Library
    drwx------+  5 bpingali  staff   170 Jun 25 07:43 Music
    drwx------+  5 bpingali  staff   170 Jun 27 20:18 Pictures
    drwxr-xr-x+  4 bpingali  staff   136 Jun 22 16:47 Public
I tried removing DS_store to no avail
    bpmac:~ bpingali$ rm ~/Movies/.DS_Store
I just get a dialog saying "you do not have permission to access its contents" when i double click.
Please help! This is a super new computer with lots of content in that folder which I would love to be sharing on my home network over this weekend!
    Thanks in advance.

    Back up all data.
If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out these instructions.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below to select it:
    sudo chmod -R -N Movies
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C).
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. Confirm. You don't need to post the warning.
If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator. Ask for instructions.
The command may take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear. Test.

  • ITunes 11 deleted movie folder

Not much else to do but continue argueing with Apple. Bit of history first, time machine asked to do a full system backup which I allowed, not thinking that it would do anything other than back up all the files and folders as usual. Monthly I use time machine to back up my external drive which houses my itunes folder. Takes to long and uses alot of space to do it more frequently.
Today I upgrade to itunes 11. Looks different, not sure I like it but the dead is done so decide to check and see if my pre-ordered films are downloading. My movie list is full of exclamation marks!!. Turns out my itunes movie folder has 8 films in it, not the 304 it is supposed to have. The new version had deleted all but 8 films, the whole lot gone.
Checked time machine and the oldest back up I have is on the 30th of November, ***!!. I've been using it for 2 years there should be hundreds in there.
Call Apple support and they say they have made available for download some of the 130 odd films I've bought from itunes, some are no longer available. No realising that it'll take some 10-15 months to download all of them due to my fair usage cap of 30Gb a month.
So,be warned this version has some serious flaws in it.

I have not had that many deleted yet, about 5 as far as I can tell.  But with me, I HAVE my Time Machine backups for a good 6 months and the deleted movies do not appear regardless.
Just the latest blunder by Apple.  Things have been declining at Apple for some time now.

  • Duplicates in the all photos folder...

In the new photos app for all devices, when I move a photo from the all photos album to a designated folder, there is still a copy of that photo in the all photos album.  This annoyed me in the past.....  Can I change this with the new app??  Can I move a photo to a album and there is only that copy, or will there always be a copy in one huge all photos folder?

No - you can not move a photo at all
Photos (like iPhoto) uses a library and albums are just one way to view the photos in the library - there are not multiple copies and you do not move them - you are just adding a link to an album so you can view them from there

  • Why iTunes? Why not iPhoto, or the Movies Folder?

I hope this does not come across as just ranting. I think I have a couple of intelligent questions here, and am genuinely confused.
I'm far from new to the Mac. But admittedly have stalled as Apple moved toward mobility and sharing. I do not have any iOS devices; stopped upgrading at Snow Leopard; was sad to see my .Mac become .me, and now evaporate into a cloud. I am not really doing much with iCloud, other than the bare minimal to keep my many years old .Mac email address. I do, however, have and use a Mac Pro, two MacBook Pros, and some older Powerbooks and iPods.
And now, I have an Apple TV. I just got a new ATV (Amazon listing said "newest" so is that gen 2 or 3?).
Weather 2nd or 3rd gen ATV, I am having a difficult time using it to play so much of the content I have on several different internal and external hard drives.
I falsely assumed that video I created or edited using QTPro or iMovie would have an easy and logical route to the Apple TV.
Wouldn't it make sense to stream from iPhoto, which has video uploaded from digital cameras, or anything in the User Movies folder?
Any video I have on non-boot drives, internal or external, has no simple way to be played on the ATV.
For years, working with video, It did not make any sense for me to use iTunes. Hence, the greater percentage of my stuff is not mp4 or m4v, though I try to use H264 now as much as possible. Still, I have much in avi; divx, wmv, mkv, etc. For that reason, I have 2 Sony Pplaystations (PS3) for streaming to HD TVs. But those do not like Apple proprietary video. Which is why I broke down and bought the ATV.
I am accustomed to having to convert things and have several good video conversions applications, as well as QTPro.
But the video file type is not my main issue right now. I knew the ATV would not play all those other file types.
What I did not know, and am struggling with now, is the fact that everything has to come from iTunes, which resides on my boot drive, which only has a fraction of the movies and tv shows I want to stream to the ATV.
So...Do I have to create multiple iTunes Libraries and store one on each of the non-boot drives?
If so, how do I use the ATV to select the Library I want to use?
I do have Home Sharing turned on. As I mentioned, I do not use or have any iOS devices, only multiple laptops and desktops and older iPods.
So Airplay, as I understand it, is not part of my scenario?
Nor is syncing, since this is a ATV 2 or 3, right?
I did figured out one clumsy method of getting video from other than iTunes, but it's limited. It's this:
In iTunes, I go to Advanced > Choose Photos to Share. Then in the Photo Sharing Preferences box that comes up, next to Share Photos From: I select a folder on one of the non-boot drives, and check the Include videos box. It works, so far. But as best I can figure, I can only make one selection (folder) at a time.
Help, advise, comments will be much appreciated. Thanks

The requirements for AppleTV were clear to me that iTunes is required to play videos. Also the video formats were listed in the requirments.
You have to have iTunes running to stream the videos to your appleTV, but the iTunes library does not have to be on an internal drive. My iTunes library is on a 2TB external drive. I know others have multiple external drives making up their iTunes library but I do not know how they accomplished that.

  • Reading only certain files from Movies folder?

    Hello all,
I have an external hard drive connected to my Time Capsule that is loaded with a bunch of VIDEO_TS folders of all my DVDs, and I have that drive aliased in my "Movies" folder on my MacBook Pro, so when I open Front Row, it points to my external HDD, and everything is hunky-dory.  But I also have other files in this HDD (a bunch of JPG files) that are also being seen by Front Row.  For reasons that are too boring to get into, I don't want to separate the files into different locations, I would like to keep them together.  But my goal is to be able to somehow block Front Row from seeing these JPG files and just display the list of my DVDs instead.  Is there any way to tell my alias to block out the JPGs, or some way to hide the JPGs from that particular alias, or something along those lines?
Thanks for any help I may get!
    Ben

The only way I can immediately think of is the way I have arranged it, whereby I don't use an alias of the external HD, but aliases of each individual TS folder.
That certainly avoids showing non-video files in the Movies folder.

  • HT1390 I downloaded a movie but it does not appear in my movie folder

I downloaded a movie from iTunes (confirmed that my account was charged for it) but it does not appear in my iTunes library.  (I have done this before - the movie automatically appeared in my Movies folder the last time.  This time, it did not.)

Yes. I know where downloaded movies can be found. And the question has already been marked as solved.
