Greetings

For posterity, here's what the hybrid MBR looked like after repartitioning with Boot Camp Assistant on Snow Leopard:
$ sudo fdisk /dev/disk0

and here's how it looked after formatting it with the Windows XP SP3 installer disc:

Not sure if there's other incantations that the XP installer does to the disk, but it's strange that the assistant didn't take care of everything. That step is particularly important if you're restoring a .dmg of the original FAT32 partition after replacing a hard disk.

  • Does your cursor freeze after pressing any key?

After using my MBP for an hour or so the mouse freezes (and or disappears) when I try to move it.
This can be duplicated by pressing any key while in Safari or the desktop.
It is not happening now while I type.
But it will occur if I leave this text box.
I tried to disabling LazyMouse and the issue remains.
This began after disabling Caps Lock in the Keyboard and Mouse Preference Pane. But re-activating it has not solved the issue.
I am not running any other suspicious SW.
It will work again after a few attempts (7-10 sec) on the trackpad.
    Thanks ... Ken

Maybe unselecting "ignore accidental trackpad input" (or something similar, my mac os is not english) in the keyboard-preferences helps. When you have that turned on, the cursor will not react while you are typing. Maybe your mouse is incompatible with that function or something. What kind of mouse do you use?

  • N95-1 turns off when press any key

I was using normally the phone when suddenly it turned off, I thought was the battery but it's go, I tried other battery with the same result. I turn on the phone, and when I press any key it turns off. If the keyboard keeps locked the displays says yeah unlock the keys, but when i unlocked and press any button it's turns off, I made the hard reset trick, but this couldn't solve the problem, help me please

I have the exact same problem with my Nokia Luna 8600, turns on normally, but as soon as I press any key, it turns off and changing battery nor formatting didnt help.
    Any ideas?

  • Had diagnostics check done at Apple Store. Passed Got home, pushed power button, and screen says No bootable device-- insert boot disk and press any key?

What happened at the Apple store that caused my computer to do this.
It passed the diagnostic check with flying colors. So I got the green light from the Genius to purchase the MacBook Pro.
    Got home.
    Pushed power.
    Screen says:
No bootable device-- insert boot disk and press any key...
What happened? He said it would be like a new MacBook Pro when I got home and turned it on. This isnt like that at all.
Someone please advise me what to do? The Apple store is closed now.   :-(

It's trying to boot from a Boot Camp volume that doesn't have a working installation of Windows. Restart and hold down the option key until you see one or more disk icons. Select the one representing your Mac OS boot volume and press return. When the boot is complete, open System Preferences > Startup Disk and set the Mac OS volume as the default boot device.

I have gdisk installed and am ready to mess around. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

So, when I started my iMac yesterday morning it couldn't boot into OS X anymore either. Several hours of restoring later I am back to square one. I tried installing Windows 7 via Bootcamp again but got the same error message. This time I noticed though that Bootcamp asked me to remove the bootable option from the USB drive with the support drivers in order to install from DVD. Does that ring any bells? I am building another USB drive right now, hoping it would ask me again but this I will decline and try to boot from it.
When you restored, was a Time Machine restore used? TM does not backup Bootcamp and does an erase of the partition. It may also erase the entire disk (including the Fusion drive) if the specific backup of the volume layout of the disks indicates a pre-Bootcamp layout.
My MacBook Pro is a 2009 model and also once had a built-in optical drive. I have no idea why it would work on there but not on the iMac.
    You also wrote
When I plug the external DVD drive in, the boot manager recognizes a "Windows" disc and an "EFI Boot" disc. If I select the "Windows" disc I get a black screen with a blinking dash.
The blinking dash indicates that it is working, but does not have the requisite drivers to enable the GPU/Mouse/Keyboard on the media being used.
In the MBP case, did you have two drives installed in the MBP, a Fusion configuration, and then were able to successfully install Bootcamp?
For example on a Mac mini I have a DIY Fusion drive, but the sequence was done differently. Bootcamp was installed using a USB stick+Windows 7 ISO.
    1. The two disks are not in a CoreStorage set up initially.
    2. The second disk is partitioned (64Gb) and a Bootcamp W7 install completed via USB (this is different HW as compared to IMac, because it has no Optical drive).
    3. After the HDD is partitioned, the first partition and the SSD are then used to create a CoreStorage volume.
    4. Here is the working version and disk layout. (I plan to erase both disks, put W7 on a partition on the SSD, and make the non-Bootcamp+entire HDD in a CoreStorage volume).

When I turn on my iMac, it shows a black screen and says 'No bootable device - enter boot cd and press any key'.
I'm not sure what to do, I did not recieve a cd with my mac to boot it up (I ordered it online).
Also I can't find my harware serial number (I've tried many times to input what I thought it may be from my receipt).  I saw that I need this number to contact apple support, my 90 day complimentary support is still valid so I wish to contact them.
I don't know much about apple products as this is my first apple computer so any information is helpful.

Hold down the Alt/Option-key at startup of your iMac to get the Boot Selection screen.
From that choose to boot into OSX.
Once in OSX go to System Preferences then Startup Volume and reset your OSX to be the default.
The new iMacs have OSX 10.7 Lion preinstalled and don't come with any CD/DVD anymore.
Instead OSX Lion includes a new feature called "Lion Recovery".
Have a read here About Lion Recovery

Just got the same error message today.  My phone went to the black screen of death with the error message at the top.  Contacted Verizon via chat.  Was online for 1 hour and 15 minutes only to find out that nothing could be done which I could have told them based upon what I had read on this site.  Of course my phone is out of warranty since I have had it for 1 1/2 years and I am not eligible for an upgrade.  How convenient!  I was told to contact Nokia which I did and they gave me a download to try to reset everything.  It looked like it was working but after almost 3 hours it got to the end and nothing happened.  It just froze even though it said it was done.  I rebooted the phone and am back at the same black screen of death.  Guess I have to buy a used phone and then will have to reconsider whether or not to stay with Verizon going forward.  I have not had any issues with the phone in the past - keep it in an otter box, never dropped, never got wet, etc.  But all of a sudden it goes haywire like this that seems like either a hardware or software problem but something completely out of my control and all I get is sorry, you're out of warranty!

  • "No Bootable Device -- insert a boot disk and press any key" Error Message.

Last month I just got a HP netbook (HP Mini 110-3100) and when I got it from the box, the error message; "No bootable device -- insert a boot disk and press any key" appeared. But then I managed to boot up the netbook normally. After that, I can use the netbook normally but the error message keeps appeared and becomes more frequent and now I even cannot turn on the netbook.
Is it a hard disk failure?
p/s: yesterday accidentally I can turn on the netbook without any problems. Did a lot of Hard Disk Maintenance by some softwares downloaded from the internet. But now already cannot turn on.
p/s/s: i have no cd/dvd drive, and also no 8GB usb drive.
p/s/s/s: what should i bring if i want to send the netbook to the HP centre? just bring the netbook?

I would suggest try and reseat the hard drive and check...If you still have the issue, than take it to the service center...And you will need to take only netbook to Service center...
Although I am an HP employee, I am speaking for myself and not for HP.
