Push e-Mail Service into iPhone out of Mac OS X Server?
Will there be a push e-mail (calendar and address book) function in Mac OS X Server soon? Will there be possibilities to use Microsoft's ActiveSync-protocol under Server?
It shouldn't be that only PC-enterprise users can use the new iPhone enterprise functions, or should it?
Thanks
Joe
Hello,
Is there a way to have push email with macosx Server 10.5 and the iphone ? We have all our business on xserve + MacosX server, for the purpose of good interoperability between apple products. But if we can't get push emails between macosx server and iphone this is really a pity. It means we should have gone with Microsoft SMB + exchange ??? I really don't understand the apple politic !!! Apple if you read this, please make an effort toward your business client, bring good tools with good interoperability !!! The equivalent to "mobile me" should be available as an enterprise product.
Regards,
Numa

I am trying to maintain my inbox on my imac while not carrying around all my mail on my iphone. As of now, I only seem to be able to sync the inboxes. If I delete a mail on my iphone, it disappears on both the server and imac. I only seem to be able to make it move the mail to the deleted mail box and keep it there.
That's the way IMAP servers work. The messages really live on the server; the iPhone and the iMac just view them.

Mail Services connection times out after 10.5.8 - 10.6.4 upgrade
I have been running a mail server on my macosxserver02.binghamton.edu (128.226.xx.x) for Podcast Producer email notifications only. The mail service has been running fine until I recently upgraded the server to Apple's latest server software: Snow Leopard Server (10.6.4).
After the upgrade I'm no longer able to receive mail to the mail server from outside it's domain (macosxserver02.binghamton.edu). I can send and receive mail locally from within that domain. I can send mail outside of the domain without any trouble to my personal email account [email protected], but not my work account: [email protected]. If I try to send from outside the domain -- say with my Binghamton Univ account -- the mail bounces back with this message:
Delivery to the following recipient has been delayed:
[email protected]
Message will be retried for 2 more day(s)
Technical details of temporary failure:

One thing to note about the .binghamton.edu domain is that we recently switched to Google Mail and .binghamton.edu is our branded domain within google.com.
DNS is managed on another server. I had an MX record added to my server this morning.
I have these ports open on my firewall: 143, 993, 25, 587 (POP is not enabled)
In ServerAdmin>Mail>Settings>Relay 'Accept SMTP relays only from these hosts and networks' is checked with
127.0.0.0/8
128.226.62.0/26 (my local subnet)
In ServerAdmin>Mail>Settings>Filters Junk Mail and Virus filtering is not enabled, so greylisting should not be a problem. I did confirm this line in main.cf: smtpd_recipient_restrictions = permit_sasl_authenticated permit_mynetworks reje ct_unauth_destination permit
10MB quota is set, Mailing Lists not enabled, Logging set at Information
In ServerAdmin>Mail>Settings>Advanced>Security I am not using SSL. I do have a valid certificate that I would like to use after I get this back up and running.
In ServerAdmin>Mail>Settings>Hosting 'Include server's domain as local host alias' is checked with
localhost
binghamton.edu
Virtual hosting is not enabled.

Could someone please help me figure out what is wrong?

[email protected]I found two things that were causing my troubles.
First, port 25 on the switch going to the server was blocked. After this was opened I was able to receive mail to macosxserver02.binghamton.edu. Since this mail server is only used for Podcast Producer notifications, I'm hoping to have this port closed back down after I get Pcast Producer back up and running and fully tested.
Second, when the upgrade from 10.5 -> 10.6 was performed, in ServerAdmin>Mail>Settings>Domain Name, only the .binghamton.edu was populated in this field, not the full domain name of macosxserver02.binghamton.edu. This was preventing me sending mail to our Google branded .binghamton.edu email addresses. Apparently 10.6 was looking locally for all the .binghamton.edu email addresses.
A big thank you to Gordon for looking into this and helping me get this resolved.

Push E-mail/iCal to iPhone
We just setup a SLS 10.6.1 server with collaboration services (Email, iCal, web, etc). Push appears to be working to the iPhone though iCal updates do not. Reading through the discussions, it seems push to the iPhone should not be working at all because it isn't supported?!? I guess what I'm looking for is a clear understanding of whether or not push is working in SLS 10.6.1 to the iPhone. Thanks for any feedback you can provide!
You have email push working to the iPhone? I'd love to learn more about how you have things set up as this is what I have been trying to achieve, unsuccessfully, for a while.
Edit: I should add that I just got a Mac Mini with snow leopard server as I was under the assumption it would be able to push email to the iPhone. Reading the documentation (ServerAdmin_v10.6.pdf, chapter 9: Push Notification Server) it is clearly stated that iPhone OS v 3.0 supports this. It just doesn't work.
I spent a number of hours searching various forums, and based on the posts I found, it seems that the email push never really made it into iPhone OS 3.
So: I'd love to learn the specifics about an environment where this works.

ICloud mail sync between iPhone 4S and Mac Book
I am new in the Apple world. I have a brand new Apple MacBook Pro right out of the box and an older iPhone 4S, using a Pop3 mail account (and for various reasons I do NOT want to change to IMAP, e.g. storage space issues on the server). I do not use Gmail or any other of these services, but use my own e-mail via my website provider. I download e-mails via POP3 onto various computers (but leaving e-mails on the server for a period of 4 weeks).
I can send and receive e-mails, no problem on my Mac nor my iPhone.
To sync between both (esp. with regard to sent mails) I have created an icloud account which works fine for synchronising my contacts, for example. But it does not in any way synchronise my e-mails between the devices or show any e-mails in icloud mail (in icloud or on in Mac mail) at all. The folder is there, it's just empty.
I changed over from Windows after being frustrated by performance issues (although I am starting to miss Outlook already). But in the Apple world I am already overwhelmed by the feeling that I do not have the slightest idea of how to set up things here...I am aware that I might not get the simplest basics, but I have no one to ask (since all friends are Microsofts-addicts).
I use three e-mails accounts (work and private) and now I am already stuck with getting to run one and sync it over the devices, let alone three.
Thanks for any help!
StephanieApparently you must be very narrow minded. I don't want to develop an e-mail client from the scratch.
I would implement the sync the following way.
Assuming I use POP3 on both my iPhone and my MacBook. On my iPhone mail client I am downloading e-mails and reading them from time to time and replying. There is an ended set of what you actions you can do with your e-mails. Every e-mail has a unique ID / fingerprint - you can recognize it with 100% accuracy. I'm also downloading e-mails on my MacBook mac mail and performe the same ended set of actions on this e-mails. So the system architecture should be as follows:
1. MacBook mail client queues all the actions I have performed with my e-mails on my MacBook.
2. iPhone mail client does the same - creates a queues with actions I have performed on my iPhone.
3. If I have the syncing turned on on both of my devices and I'm logged in on both of them with the same Apple ID both devices process the queues to my iCloud, compare it and update status of my e-mails according to the actions in each queue.
So I will rather wait until Apple will do this simple solution. -
How can i erase my .me mails from my iPhone and keep them in the server
how can i erase my .me mails from my iPhone and keep them in the server
You can't. The iPhone doesn't actually store all your emails anyway. It is showing you what is on the server directly.
Only the most recently accessed emails are cached (stored temporarily) on your phone for access when you are offline. If you delete an email from your iPhone, you are actually deleting it from the server. -
Mail won't go out on Mac but does iPad
I got a message this afternoon that the Comcast Certificate had expired September 11 and now I can't send out mail on the Mac, but it works fine on the iPad WITH THE SAME SETTINGS. The message is that the certificate for this server is invalid.
The mail worked previously but refuses to send now. When I say to connect with the SMTP server, it will not work.
I also tried in the certificate info to always trust this certificate, but that didn't work either
Does the iPad not verify the certificate and the Mac does?
I can get incoming mail but I elected to get it though my domain provider and not the broadband provider.Rebooting the Mac fixed the problem. I have no idea why. Still unable to locate the mail ssl certificates.

Push e.mail on iPhone 5
What is the problem with push e.mail on the iPhone 5 ?? I took delivery of one on Monday last week and configured the e.mail ( exactly as it is on the iMac and iPad ) and it worked for a few hours ( i.e. alerted when new e.mails arrived ) but then it stopped. Judging by internet reports it appears that it is a problem either with the new phone or the OS BUT PLEASE someone musk know something ???!!!!
Yes, it is normal.
Even when switched off, the battery will still discharge, albeit rather slowly.. -
I have to upgrade a customer's Xserve from 10.3.9 to 10.4 and I decided to upgrade my own server first - just to see what might go wrong. After running the installer and doing setup I ran software update and got to 10.4.3. Everything came up as it should, but Mail Service is broken. Going to Server Admin>Mail Services>Maintenance>Accounts each mail account shows 'unknown Mailbox Path'. Reconstructing the database doesn't help. Choosing an account and pressing reconstruct gives the message 'fatal error: can't read mailboxes file'.
I really don't want to try this on the customer's system with many more users and emails than we've got if I can't even get our system to run (not to mention we've got no mail service!)
Any help at all would be hugely appreciated.I took a look at the doc but it doesn't seem to apply. The previous mail database was in the default location, and to my less-than-fully-trained eyes the files and folders appear to be where they should be now. The database tab under maintenance shows the locations of the database files, and their sizes. The sizes in my case seem to be right - i.e. the same as they were before. (Mind you, the 'big' upgrade I have to do next week the database is not in the default location so I'm grateful for that piece of info in any case.)
Email clients can't log in to mail services (connection timed out). Newly-arrived mail is showing in the 'mail queue' screen.
The IMAP log is repeatedly saying
skiplist:invalid magic header: /var/imap/mailboxes.db (also appearing in Mail Access log)
DBERROR: opening /var/imap/mailboxes.db: cyrusdb error (also appearing in Mail Access log)
Fatal error: can't read mailboxes file
service imap pid xxxxx in READY state: terminated abnormally
executed
The SMTP log is saying normal things.
Pushing the 'Repair' button under databases doesn't seem to do anything. The button just goes grey and then reappears after a few seconds. Under 10.3 there used to be a repair log you could look at. Is there an equivalent log being generated in 10.4 (and if so where is it!)?
I'm about to create a test user and see what happens with that. -
Service Registry causing memory out of exception in Application Server
Hi all,
I have installed basic service registry on Oracle application server 10g.However I am ocassionally running into memory out of exception on the server.
I have changed the opmn.xml with the following :-
MaxPermSize=128m -Xmx1024m
The configuration of the server machine is as follows:-
Intel Pentium(4) CPU 2.80 Ghz 2.79 Ghz
1.99 GB of RAM
It also however has the database server installed on it.
Please let me know how I can improve the performance. It's urgent.Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks.- what kind of operation you are running on it? I have seen it in production env. with 1G memoy (min=max), without any issue with moderate publish and search activities.
- I would also look JVM profiling, you can do it in OC4J there is MBean conf in Admin page. If Gargage collector is not working efficiently you can look at aggresive heap option which might help a bit.
- Service registry is known to be memory hog so it is always advisable to allocate extra memory.

Why am I unable to send e mails from my iPhone, and get message rejected by server and message put in outbox. I have tried changing server ports but to no avail. I am not very technically minded so any suggestions in laymans terms please. This is a big problem as I work away frequently and need to answer e mails. This also happens when at home and on my own wifi.

Change mail service to SMTP only
Our company was running all its mail for two domains internally on Mac OS X Server 10.6. We recently switched over to Google Apps for our email. However, Google's SMTP server is SLOW, so I thought I'd try to use the SMTP server from our 10.6 Server to send outgoing messages instead. I configured one of the client Macs to use the internal server for SMTP and this certainly sped up mail sending. However, of course, only messages sent to external domains were received. Messages sent internally (to email addresses at our two domains) never arrived because the server delivered them to the local mailboxes on the server, and not to the externally hosted Google Apps mailboxes.
Is anyone able to point me in the right direction for configuring our server properly so that all messages including internal messages are delvered properly by our SMTP server?
Cheers!
GregSure - this is simple.
Your server is delivering locally because it believes it is responsible for mail sent to your domain. It isn't. So tell it so.
In Server Admin, change the server to accept mail for 'localhost' only - remove your domain from the list of mail it accepts, and you're set. It will believe that mail for users at your domain are just like any other remote domain and send the mail out.
Off hand, I don't have a Snow Leopard Server handy to check exactly what the field is called in Server Admin, but it shouldn't be hard to spot, or edit the myDestination setting in /etc/postfix/main.cf -
Can't get access to OWA (Exchange 2003) through Mail App on iPhone
I can access my Office's Email system through Outlook Web Access (2003) via Safari, but I cannot seem to get Mail (on the iPhone 4S) settings to recognize the server. I have tried all combinations of excluding the https:// and the /exchange.
HelpNo clue. It works just fine for me and everyone I know.
Re-boot the phone.
Restore the phone.
Restore the phone as a new device.
Do any of those fix it? -
How do I transfer outgoing emails from iphone to my mac? (I have use POP3)
I have now a small trouble with my mail account. I would like to switch from POP3 to IMAP serwer, but first I would like to copy all my sent mails from my iPhone to my mac (where my phone is sync). How can I do that?
iTunes doesn't sync the actual emails, only the account settings.
So, those sent emails won't sup up in the POP email account on your iPhone. -
"Push" E-Mail still not working with iPhone!
I'm not sure what the problem is here with Yahoo and Apple but to this day I still encounter very big issues with push E-Mail regarding Yahoo and Apple...it just doesn't work! I now have a new iPhone (2G, 16GB) because I dropped my old one and the screen cracked (cement ouch). Anyways I got my new phone last week (via eBay) and once again push mail is not working. I either have to manually check or mail comes in when it feels like it...in some cases HOURS later! Or if my phone is locked/asleep the mail doesn't come into my phone until I pick up my phone and start using it. Yesterday I went to go use my phone, I slid the slider to unlock it to bring me to my home screen, the mail icon showed no mail. The next thing I know all this mail starts pouring into my phone (22 messages to be exact)! I was like geeze...this is so messed up!
Push email continues to not function properly for me as well. The only time it ever works is if I'm actively on the phone after its been sleeping for a while, or when it polls for my other email accounts (in which case I get my "push" email at the same intervals as my regular email, making push worthless).
None of the other functions of the iPhone does this. When I receive a call or SMS text message, my phone notifies me immediately. What is the purpose of having "push" email that notifies me when I received new mail if I have to still manually check my device? This has been one of the iPhone 3G's weaknesses since launch and STILL has yet to be fixed.
Running iPhone 2.2. Software 2.2.1 did not address any changes with Mail.
