Push firmware update through BES 4.17 SP7 - help please

Hi,
I've been asked to update the firmware on all my companies devices from our BES 4 SP7. From reading, I'm not sure whether this means the device software (version 5 the latest I think) or the OS (version 7 the latest I think). is required to be updated? What is the difference between these?
I was wondering where I get the software from, how I can add it to the BES and how I can deploy it wirelessly?
I imagine there are many old devices which the new firmware is not compatible. How can I find out which are compatible and which are not?

Without internet connection there is no way for you restore the iPad.

You may have to force your iPad into recovery mode in order to restore the device since the update did not complete. This article explains how to do that.

Firmware update through Software Update

Hey guys, I have a Mac Pro with RAID setup, and as such I can't install the firmware update unless I load it onto an external device. What I'm wanting to know is where the Firmware Update file is located so I can move it, and stop the dialog box popping up whenever someone logs in. There are multiple users on the machine and I don't want them screwing around with firmware stuff!

usually Firmware updaters are apps placed inside /Applications/Utilities and are called something like "MacBook Pro EFI-Firmware-Update.app".

Pushing App Updates through Profile Manager

We are currently using Lion Server's builtin Profile Manager to manage a variety of iPads. I have been able to use it to push out new apps to the end users however I have not figured out a way to push out app updates. Is this possible?
For example our student iPads have Evernote ver. 4.1.9 currently installed. I would like to upgrade them to ver. 4.4.0. If I delete the the current Evernote app from the iPad I am able to then push the updated version. If I try to simply overwrite it the task appears to have worked from the view of the Profile Manager but the new version of the app is not installed on the iPad.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

I found the problem. The device group that the laptop in question was assigned to also has an option for fast user switching that was not enabled. I enabled it there and the problem was resolved.

Are you booting from RAID? even though it warns that you can't be booting from RAID, some people still run the update.
Any problem with your system?
While it only says that you need to quit any and all open programs, sometimes it helps to reboot (and boot into Safe Mode) just to begin the process.
When there was an SMC Firmware update before (last fall) some people also had trouble.
We aren't mind readers, and to say it failed doesn't give those of us reading this (and non of us are Apple tech support) a lot to go on.

Firmware Update worked fine but... Please help!!

Hi to all,
I've installed the new firmware update in my iMac 20".
Everything worked fine but after this update each time
I switch on the iMac I get the message that the Firmware has been updated correctly. I can only click on OK to close that form but I don't understand why it comes up.
Is there a way to disable this message?

Verify that System Profiler in Hardware Overview shows both:
"Boot ROM Version: IM41.0055.B03"
and
"SMC Version: 1.1f5"
If so, the installation is permanent, and if you have not yet done so, delete the now obsolete Firmware installer from your desktop or downloads folder (whichever one you have chosen).

Lost apps after updating to iOS 4.2.1 Help please! =(

I updated my iPhone 3Gs to the iOS 4.2.1 and lost a lot of my apps.
Does anyone know how to fix this? I tried to install the apps again but I have to buy them. I don't want to pay again. They also disappeared from my iTunes in the computer. =(

All iTunes content on your iPhone - all music, movies, tv shows, and 3rd party apps should be in your iTunes library on your computer. iTunes content in your iTunes library cannot be erased when syncing an iPod, iPad, or iPhone, or when installing an iPhone firmware update. Regardless, it is a good idea to include your iTunes library with your computer's backup along with all other important data stored on an external drive or some other external media used for backup purposes only.
Did you have Sync Apps selected under the Apps tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes? If so, after downloading an app with your iPhone the app will be copied to your iTunes library automatically the first time you sync your iPhone with iTunes after doing so.
No iTunes content on your iPhone - no music, movies, tv shows, podcasts, or 3rd party apps is included with your iPhone's backup, which is updated by iTunes as the first step during the iTunes sync process.
You can re-download a 3rd party app and you won't be charged again for a purchased app as long as you use the same iTunes account to re-download the app that was used to purchase the app originally.

Reset your iPhone. Hold the on/off and home buttons together for about 10 seconds till the Apple logo appears.
If you continue to have issues, try downloading the apps to iTunes on your computer, then sync your iPhone using iTunes.

Firmware updates through Logic, how ?

I need to update the firmware on my Logic Control. The Mackie read me says:
"Import the MIDI file you just downloaded from the Mackie web site into your audio software application, and make sure the Mackie Control/Logic Control is the target midi device on channel one."
How do i set this target device and channel ?

Assuming you're MCU is connected to the MIDI port on your computer labelled "MyPort", then go to the environment window, New -> Instrument, and set it to "MyPort" and channel 1.
Assign that instrument you just created to an arrange track, and drag the MIDI file onto that track. Now, the MIDI contents will be sent to the "MyPort" MIDI port on channel 1.

I'm having trouble downloading the firmware update through iTunes...

For three days I've been trying to get iTunes to download the update. I get anywhere from 10% to 80% of the file downloaded, then get a time-out error. When I resume the download, it starts over from the beginning. I must have downloaded the first 100 MB 20 times now.
My internet connection is strong and stable, but I have not been able to get this download through iTunes.
Is there a direct download available somewhere? Is there a way to have iTunes save a partial download and continue where it left off?
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Once you download the update file, you simply connect your iPhone, and press the option key (Mac) or the shift key (Windows) while clicking the Update button in iTunes, and you'll be prompted to locate the file you downloaded.

Tried to update my phone while it was plugged into itunes. I got an error in itunes and now my phone is stuck with the apple logo and loading bar, my power button is broken so i can't even hold that and the home button to force it to restart. EFI Firmware 1.1 Update...giving me trouble - help please

Just successfully uploaded EFI Firmware 1.1 but I'm having trouble connecting to my server via yahoo messenger and Safari....
I've already phoned my server - no problem with connection
Checked my modem - no problem with it either
Here's whats happening...
Get in sometimes....other times while I'm already into my server, I'll try to compose an email or go to another site...I stay connected to the server but don't get to the new site...
Tried restarting and shutdown....when I try to connect to my server I get in sometimes, others not, other times get the message "incorrect login credentials"....once I got a "server busy" message....
Hummmmmmmm.......
Any suggestions?

Hi Gypsygina, and a warm welcome to the forums!
First Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
Then these in Network>TCP/IP>DNS Servers:
208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220
Press Apply. These Servers have been patched to gaurd against DNS poisoning.

Updating Quicktime to 7.5.5 - Help Please

Currently - I am trying to create a push for the newest version of Quicktime using Zenworks. I have used 7-zip to extract the .msi file - Quicktime.msi and I do not want iTunes, nor auto updates installed. We currently have v.7.5 (861) installed. I tested this on my machine before I push it out to my users, and it runs, but when I check the version on Quicktime - by going to Help and about - it still says that I am at v.7.5 (861). To see if this is correct, I actually updated another computer directly from the website and the version on that PC was v 7.5.5 (249.13). Am I missing something here? Is there something with this new version when the .msi is extracted that does not update? I hope that someone can shed some insight as to what I am doing incorrectly. I really appreciate any help - I have worked on this project now for about 3 days, and am pretty stumped.

Hello again, Thank you to everyone who at least took a peek at this issue. For some reason - I restarted from scratch again, and now it appears to be updating to the proper version now.
