Push Notification Sound - Easy Question

I have my gmail account push email through microsoft exchange with my iPad to get gmail, google calendar, and google contacts synced. I was just recently fiddling with this, and the mail notification sound now "dings" twice exactly when I receive this message. This is great, but I'm surprised that it makes the sound twice because I could have sworn it only made the sound once before I changed some settings a day ago.
Can anyone else verify that push email notifications ding twice rather than once?

I believe that I may have just determined where my problem was originating. Haha, of course it wasn't iOS that was malfunctioning - I had previously set my Mail to push sync my Gmail Inbox and select other labels that I frequent. If I received an email that also auto labelled itself then I would hear the ding twice, and if it was from someone random it would only ding once.
To fix this, I set my iPad to sync with gmail's inbox only, so now it functions as per default settings, which works well for me.

How do I customize the Push Notification sound?

Searching the Internet, I found a solution that involves installing special software that I do not want to do.
I also found a procedure shown below. The problem is, that switch and selection ( Notification Sound) does not exist on my iPhone.
The current sound I appear to be getting is the Tri-Tone. I find this hard to hear and I usually miss it, I was looking for something louder. Sadly, the Android version of this app has the notification sounds changeable.

I do Facebook, Google voice, and Viber primarily. All of those will do a few pushes each day...
Is there any way to change push sounds? Or is that forthcoming in iOS 5??

I guess permanent vibrate/silent is my life! I've never really used ringtones with my other VZ phones until I was handed an iPhone on a golden platter (no wait, I'm getting ahead of myself) but yes the iPhone sounds are quite interesting! I will live with them for now!

Apple Push Notifications (APN) cert question

Hey all,
Anyone using APN on their AIR for iOS apps? I hopefully have a basic question.
If I enable APN on an app, do I need to regenerate my main iOS Distribution cert (the .p12 you sign your app with)?
I'm hoping not and I really see no reason why that would be the case. However my app simply refuses to use APN.

Just to be clear my process was this:
- Enable production APN on an existing (2 year old) app ID (non-wildcard)
- Generate a production APN .cer
- Deleted old mobileprovision
- Recreated a brand new mobileprovision, pointing to the Distribution cert and the correct app ID
- Generated .p12 from production APN .cer and provided to pushwoosh (who I use for pushes), success
- Submitted app to store (peeked in payload embedded.mobileprovision, aps-environment set to production)
App accepted in the store. I load it up on the iPad, it doesn't ask for permission to use notifications. No devices ever are registering themselves. Push doesn't work overall.
I deleted everything except the iOS Distribution cert and app Id (of course), revoking everything I could. I then remade it all again, but this time as ad-hoc just to test. Push still doesn't work.
Now, I developed the app and test on a completely different Apple developer account (my own). I did all these same exact steps. Push works perfectly fine in ad-hoc. I'm really totally confused why it works perfectly for me but when I try to sign with this other companies certs it fails, and they have OTHER apps with APN that work. The last remaining link is if I really need to regen the main iOS Distribution cert, and if I do, all the team developers will need a new .p12. That would be insane just to enable APN.
Any other ideas?

Looks like on Windows Server 2008 apns certificates private key must have granted permission for user that wants to use it.
As I wrote before I've granted it for IIS_USRS but that's only for applications running under IIS. And since I was using windows service it wasn't working.
So what I did was check user for windows service (Services -> Log On As) and granted permission to certificates private key for this user.

Hello, I am having an issue with sounds from my push-notifications. I have all phone sounds enabled, the volume turned up, and all the sound options for the desired applications set to allow push-notifications, AND to make noise.
All of my other phone sounds work, calls, SMS, vibrate, alarms, everything else EXCEPT push-notification sounds. I can go in to my AIM settings and even hear the desired sound play in the settings menu, however when I get an AIM message, no sound.
What gives? All my firmware is up to date.

Push notifications... at last!

For several weeks I have been working an ANE for iOS Push Notifications (APNS). I now have a beta with the following specs.
Methods:
registerForAPN( badges : Boolean = true, sounds : Boolean = true, alerts : Boolean = true, newsStandContent : Boolean = false ) : void;
unregisterForAPN() : void;
askForAPNtypes() : void;
setLocalBadge( badgeNumber : Number) : void;
Last method doesn't really have to do with APN, but was build in because you probably will need it.
All methods are void. For consistency all data is sent back through events.
Events:
REGISTERING - Just for debugging. Means registerForRemoteNotificationTypes was called.
REGISTERED - Means registration was successful. Returns deviceToken on event.deviceToken
FAILED - Means registration failed. Returns error string on event.info
UNREGISTERING - Just for debugging. Means unregisterForRemoteNotifications was called.
NOTIFICATION - Returns the payload of an APN as a string on event.info (not yet thoroughly tested, since I don't need it in my own implementation)
TYPES - Returns the currently registered APN-types as booleans on event.types.badges, event.types.sounds, event.types.alerts, event.types.newsStandContent.
Send me a PM with your e-mail address if you are interested in this ANE. Source code will not be released, just a ready-to-use ANE.

Great that you got the Push notifications working... but I have some questions on it, it will be helpful if you can put up light that how you breakthrough them...
1. Does your implementation is able to give "aps" data to the app when app was not running in background and push notification comes to iPhone? if you can give a hint it will be helpful..
2. How did you overcome these "undefined selector" issues for " _stageLoaded" and " notifyASyncMessages"...
I too implemented the push notifications but for question 1 I get the aps data when app is running in background as "didFinishLaunchingWithOptions" never fires in native extension. and for question 2 it seems that these are internal engine methods which for now I have just over ridden with blank implentation to avoid crashes...

but the call to RFC destination of type G is not made from the program
Can you kindly suggest what can be a Problem or where exactly I can check that the call is been made to the external server from Gateway ?

The issue that I am facing currently is that I am not able to find the service which I have created in ECC in Gateway system hence I am not able to activate and Maintain the service in Gateway.
I have tried to retrieve the services using different system aliases like 'local', ECC system alias but nothing is fetching me the service created in Backend.
Kindly help.

after installing an app, example facebbok, a pop up comes up and ask if i allow for push notifications. in all cases i mostly say no. now that i want to turn them on i can find a way to do it!
how do i turn push notification of an app after isntall and choosing not to accept them at the installing process?
in the facebook app if i go to settings and notifications i have all of them marked.
also i try unistalling some apps ( like yahoo sports ) and installing again but the pop up regarding push notifications doesnt come up again!

I have now followed multiple instructions from this and other forums. have turned push notifications off. Turned them on. Have updated to IOS 6. Have signed out and signed back in, have uninstalled all magazines and reinstalled. Have synced, and updated everything in iTunes.
Nothing works,. Also cannot use youtube.

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new). Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.
It might also be a good idea to contact Square for assistance.

In settings > sounds there are various options but not the a possibility to change the general sound (!!!) of push notifications.
Example: How can I change for instance the sound of the push notification of for example the New York Times notifications.
