Push Notifications: DNS Lookup for pubsub.localhost failed

Hello,
after a server crash and restore i cant manage to get push notifications back working. When adding a caldav account to ical, it doesnt offer "Push" in "Refresh Calendars" option anymore. Everything in the log files seems to look fine but this:
6/4/12 11:45:26.024 AM jabberd_notification/s2s: dns lookup for pubsub.localhost failed
Can someone help me out on this please?

Some more info. I think its just the last line which fails. Everything else looks like it works…
DNS seems fine as well.

  • I cannot get push notifications to work for viber.

Initially when I installed the Viber app I believe I ignored the push notification screen that the app was prompting me for. In all my endeavors to uninstall and reinstall I never did see this prompting screen again. I have tried everything suggested to get push notifications to work for this app but to no avail. I have reinstalled the app and rebooted my phone and uninstalled the app and rebooted the phone with every possible combination. I successfully sent push notifications from the suggested app Ipush test. I have a iPhone 4s. With latest software 5.0.1. I'll appreciate any suggestions. My carrier is Verizon.

  • GWIA doing DNS lookup for local address

    Hello,
I am running GW8.0.2 on Netware 6.5sp8. I have a server that our recreation department uses to send out confirmation emails when a customer signs up for a class. The recreation server and the GWIA are on the same subnet.
Here's the problem: When the Rec server sends out the first email confirmation, it gets sent out successfully. Subsequent emails after that fail. After about twenty minutes the next email will go out OK again but subsequent emails will fail.
The verbose logs on the GWIA don't tell me much but the diagnostic logs show what looks like a reverse DNS lookup happening at the GWIA for my local IP address of 10.0.0.3 (the Rec server). This reverse DNS lookup fails (probably a timeout) and subsequent emails from this local Rec server get dropped by the GWIA without the DNS lookup.
DNS is being done by DNS proxy on Bordermanager 9.2. I've bypassed the Bordermanager DNS and the same thing happens. I've made entries for the local Rec server into a route.cfg file but the GWIA seems to want to ignore these entries and keeps doing the DNS lookup.
The wierdest part of the puzzle is that if I restart the proxy on the Bordermanager the next email will go out with, of course, subsequent emails failing. I've looked at the proxy dns cache and can't even find an entry for my Rec server.
Attached are the entries from the Diagnostic logs of the GWIA. Novell tech support has assured me that the GWIA and the BM are working fine. I am also having this problem with a scanner that scans then emails but all other email and Bordermanager are functioning fine. This server and scanner were not having this problem before upgrading to GW8.0.2.
I don't understand why GWIA is doing DNS lookups for a local address and I don't know what I can do to stop it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
This is a successful transfer right after restarting the proxy: 10.0.0.3 is the Rec server, 10.0.0.130 is the GWIA and 10.0.0.1 is the Bordermanager.

The reverse DNS done by GWIA is normal, and can't be stopped or tricked.
That it fails in such odd ways must be a bug with the reverse DNS proxy
of Bordermanager though. Apparently on the second lookups, it doesn't
answer in a timely manner (the type of answer is irrelevant, just it
*has* to answer). Use a different, "real" DNS server for your GWIA.

  • Constant dns lookups for non-existent addresses

Hi. I'm connected to a large network and I've noticed
that there are constant dns lookups for addresses that
    do not exist.
When i run tcpdump, almost every second
I see a few requests to the dns server from my IP. And all
of them get the response NXDOMAIN.
Is there a reason this should happen or is there something
not working properly on my computer?
    Thanks

It all depends on your setup.
If you use only local mail domains, just make sure you do not have a catchall address (luser_relay) and messages to unknown users will not be accepted by Postfix in the first place.
If you use virtual mail domain, you will need to change your setup as Apple's default setup will always accept mail for unknown users and then bounce it back to sender. See here for a how to: Making Virtual Mail Users in OS X 10.4/10.5 Server

  • Push notifications only work for 3G?

I have been having trouble getting push notifications from apps like AP news and beejive when I am connected to wifi. If I am in an area where I have a 3G signal I get them fine. Are there special settings I need to use for my wireless router (map ports, etc.) to allow the push notifications to work over wifi? Any help would be appreciated.

Been a while but I solved the issue by changing the DNS server in the iPhone's wifi settings to a comcast owned DNS server. Been working great.

  • Iphone 4 push notifications not working for any app

hi, Actually I own an iPhone 4 os 4.2.1(8c148). The thing is that push notification for all the apps that support this feature is not working, I've been an iphone user for long time now, so I konw all the stuff about turning on the push notifications etc. the problem is that my phone give me the pushes like 1 hr or 2 late, or some times never , i just have to open the apps to see my new messages and stuff. Since i live in colombia I have brought the iphone to the store and they take it for like a week and then they give me the phone back saying that is ok , but it isn't. I' have reinstalled the software, I've done anything you can think of, like turning on an of push notification, put it in plane mode, restore as new, backups, and I don't know what else to do, and the thing is that in colombia they don't exchange your phone that easy as it is in the US. So please any advise? ANd I'm sorry about my English. Thank you!

Unfortunately you have already done everything we can possibly instruct you to do.. at this point the only option is getting them to exchange it its under warranty its not working you have to get a exchange

  • Push Notification only works for some Apps?

I just upgraded to a new iPhone 3GS from the official german carrier (t-mobile). The device is not jailbroken or unlocked.
With some applications push notification works (iFun, Trivial Pursuit, Ping, Facebook, IM+), with some not (N-TV news, Focus news, ebay). I already tried deinstallation with data removal of the apps and reinstallation.
Is there some way to reset the push notification feature, or reset the device token?
Thanks in advance for your help!

Yes, they have - both are news applications with push capability.

  • Late push notifications and emails for alerts

Hi all, It happened to me several times already and am wondering what's going on. I open the app on my iPhone (or go to myfico.com on my computer for all that matters) and find out I have a new alert. A few hours later, my phone displays a push notification telling me I have a new alert. It's referring to the same alert I read about two hours ahead. Then, as if that was not late enough, I get an email the next day informing me about the very same alert! While most emails come within what seems like 6 hours, I've had at least three being one day late. This has obviously nothing to do with credit bureaus not reporting in time or any such thing. This is an internal issue of myfico.com where push notifications and emails are delayed even though the information is available online. With this being a *paid* identity monitoring service, I expect to know as soon as possible and having an email sent a day later is not "as soon as possible". Fraud waits for no one. On top of that - and this possibly being very well related - I get a hard inquiry on my report AUG 04. CreditSesame (a free service!) alerts me about 4 minutes later (wow!). CreditTracker by CapitalOne follows up with an email about two hours later. AUG 05 in the morning, about 6am, I find myfico.com having one notification from myfico from Experian. Followed later by an email at 10:36am (lucky case!): from: myFICO Member Services <[email protected]>to: <my email address goes here>
date: Wed, Aug 5, 2015 at 10:36 AMsubject: Alert - A new inquiry was added to your Experian credit report I think it was about 9am when I logged in again and found an Equifax alert sitting there. An email followed at 1:02pm. That's 4 hours late, assuming 9am as original alert time, which is when I found it accidentally. from: myFICO Member Services <[email protected]>to: <my email address goes here>
date: Wed, Aug 5, 2015 at 1:02 PMsubject: Alert - A new inquiry was added to your Equifax credit report It is now AUG 07 and I am yet to have an alert from TransUnion on myfico.com. Note that both creditsesame and capitalone use TransUnion. What gives? Thank you,Adrian

The other side doesnt have CSRs on these forums, you need to call the 800 customer service number to get these items resolved.

  • Push notifications not working for Facebook and Tw...

Normally if I'm using an app, or doing something else with the phone, and a pop-up notification of an SMS, email or IM appears, I simply click it an it takes me to the app/conversation. However, this is not the case for my Facebook and Twitter notifications. The notifications do pop-up, but, when I click it nothing happens. It does not take me to the app. If I click the pop-up, the notification doesn't show on the events screen, as if I clicked it before. I can click Facebook and Twitter notifications on the event screen an it takes me to the app, just not with the push/pop-up notifications. Its really annoying sometimes. Thanks in advance.

    Hi arunakajacob,
    Welcome to the Nokia forums.
This will most likely be a bug in the application. Delete the application and reinstall it via Nokia Store > My Stuff.
If this doesn't fix it, a reset maybe necessary should. Make sure you make a back up with Nokia Link. You can find out how to back up using Nokia link on the below link:
    http://europe.nokia.com/support/product-support/nokia-link
Once backed up you can reset your device with instructions on the below link:
    http://europe.nokia.com/support/product-support/n9/user-guide?ccf_name=nokia-n9/guide/GUID-6D73C105-...
Once the phone has rebooted, reconnect it to Nokia link  and restore your device:

  • No DNS lookup for MX, A, AAAA or A6?

    Good day folks,
Does SJS MS 6.2 support querying DNS for MX,A,AAAA or A6 records for the domain specified in the SMTP mail from:<[email protected]>? Exim and sendmail support this measure as a means of reducing spam but I can't find the equivalent for SJS MS 6.2. mailfromdnsverify on the tcp_local channel only sets up verfication of existence of the domain itself.
    Cheers

    Hi Shane,
Let me take this piece by piece:
"Really? That's not a feature I've ever actually heard that either of these products have. I can't imagine how it might impact performance. Badly, I strongly suspect."
The following is an extract from the central mail servers' SMTP dialogue with my MS 6.2:

This kind of checking is done on every message by mail servers running sendmail that host about 500 users.
    "How about SpamAssassin?

I think that these techniques all get past the SMTP stage - I want better handling at the SMTP stage.

What I intended is that the mail servers reject external, incoming mail from source addresses that include domains that only have SOA records.
Finally, regarding the blah123.com example: this domain has no SOA record so mailfromdnsverify works in rejecting the incoming e-mail at the SMTP stage. But try these:

    lists.midterme.com
    com.br
    net.my

    HI Arie,
If you are accessing enterprise beans with J2EE clients (servlets, JSP, other enterprise beans, J2EE application clients), do not specify and use this arbitrary JNDI name. Instead, define EJB references in the clientsu2019 deployment descriptors and access the beans using these references. For more information, check the following link
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/a0/019b3e25f95f14e10000000a114084/content.htm
if the above does not work try the following:--
Try to lookup the Ejb by its JNDI name given in the EJB-J2ee-engine.xml file if it does not exist there  give any valid name and try to lookUp.
or try to lookup the ejb by its default jndi name.
    "localejbs/bean name>"

in the Above link refer the second option "Lookup from a Non-J2EE Java Application"

  • How do I setup 'local' dns lookups for hostnames using DHCP server on WRT610N?

Said router with latest firmware has DHCP reservation setup with reserved clients names mapped to specific MAC addresses/IP addresses.  I'd like my clients (a mixture of Mac and W7) to access mapped devices via hostnames and not IP addresses.   I have static IP address provided by my ISP configured on the router with it's corresponding ISP DNS server addresses.  FYI, the DHCP server DNS settings on the router are masked out (can't be changed) on the router and looks to be inherited from the Internet setup (in which I've entered the DNS IP addresses of my ISP's DNS).
On my clients, nslookup (or equivalent) clearly specify that the DHCP is pumping out the DNS servers from the ISP.  Why would it not look for the reserved client hostnames first?
I know I can setup local /etc/hosts (or equivalents) or override the DNS and point to the router's IP address on the clients but I'd rather not - that's a lot of maintenance.  I can also setup an internal DNS server, but again, overkill.
Is this feature available on this router or am I doing something wrong?  An aging integrated Westell 327W DSL model/router used to be able to provide internal network DNS - but this more modern capable WRT610N router does not?  Thoughts?   Thanks.

Well its not possible to access the storage driver using the host name.. You can access the storage driver using only the IP address. As the Linksys Router doesn't work on a Host Name.

  • DNS Lookup for DHCP-assigned devices

    Hi!
I expected that my router would be able to act as a DNS server to allow machines on my network to look up the IP addresses of other machines on my network, given that every machine on my network gets its IP address from the router via DHCP - but the router doesn't appear to be capable of that.
The router in question is a Linksys E2000 device, and it has the latest firmware revision installed (1.0.03 build 2Sep 7, 2010).
So, the questions I have are:
    1. Can this router act as a DNS server?
    2. If the answer to (1) is "yes", then how should it be configured?
    Mike

Name resolution in LANs in Windows happens usually based on broadcasts in a workgroup or homegroup and that's generally the best way to do it. Some routers add DHCP entries to the DNS proxy but you can read about a lot of issues with that either, in particular if the DNS proxy information gets incorrect somehow and the DNS resolution is configured with precedence to LAN name resolution...
I would suggest you make sure your LAN name resolution is working properly.

  • ISO web wrapped app(s) for Google Mail and Calendar that have push notifications but don't download any data

Does anyone know which apps are web wrapped for allowing IMAPing to mail & calendar have push notifications but don't download data to the device?
Basically, our enterprise would like to allow users to use personal iOS devices to access mail, calendar and contacts (we're on Google Apps).  However, our strict security requirements are such that we need to make sure the app isn't being "overly helpful" and saving the accessed data in a cache or pulling it down to the device in any way.
My quick test for checking if apps don't pull down data to reside on the device is to put the device in Airplane Mode.  If you can see your email or calendar
entries with an app when it's in airplane mode, then it's pulling the data down or caching it in some way.
I've tested the Google Gmail app and the Google Apps Browser from G-Whizz and both fail this test since they cache the last mail and/or calendar entries accessed.
The only legit way for users to access our enterprise mail and calendar is through the browser only.  However, they can't get push notifications or alerts for new emails or from their calendar.  The concern and likely outcome is that users will just set up an account on the native Mail app using IMAP, either knowing and disregarding that it's a security violation or not really understanding that they're committing a security violation.
I gotta believe there's an app for that.
    Any help be greatly appreciated!

The living issue is complex in my case. Legally speaking, I have no personal residence globally. I just live wherever my father goes, which is everywhere. I'm an expat and it seems that these sites aren't really expat-friendly. They seem to be built for localization and assume everyone stays in the same place.
I don't know what I'd be considered. I'm a US passport holder and live in China, but I only speak some Chinese and I can't read it (it using non-latin characters is just too much for my mind's memory to handle). Besides that, I'm not interested in popular Chinese apps. They tend to just be annoying and kooky and generic and put together badly, often full adware and spyware (speaking for most Chinese software, in fact). In fact, a lot of apps I want are illegal in China (YouTube, Facebook, etc) and I use a VPN to use the services. I assume I wouldn't find these apps on the Chinese store. In fact, last I checked, there wasn't many English apps on the Chinese app store. This is probably due to their strict moderation or something.
I've been going to international schools since I got here and college would be in English too. I can speak some Chinese, but not read it.
Well, I guess the answer is that I can't use the App Store in English. So I guess I'll just sign out everything on my phone involving my Apple account and just start using third-party tools to do my business.
