Push Notifications, Specifically Badges

I have noticed lately that sometimes my push nofications just never come through.
Especially badges over icons.
I have them all enabled.
I wonder if something is going on with the apple servers.
I dont think its verizon cause even when im on wifi sometimes i dont get them.
Anyone else notice this?>

It's one of 3 things:
1.  Apple servers
2.  Network
3.  Application
Some applications suck at push notifications while some applications are on the ball.  Sometimes push goes over the bit limit and Apple servers will dump them instead of sending them.

  • Push Notifications & Red Badge V25

This doesnt get mentioned in the V25 release page but, while checking out the latest version of the App Builder I came across this in the Certificate Page:
Does this mean the iOS notification system is available now to Pro users?
Not sure why the check boxes and input box are greyed out. They are defaulted that way.

You need to set up push by providing your push certificates in app builder. Once your certificates are up, the notification button in folio producer will send a push out to every iOS device that has installed your app and registered for notifications.
If you don't enable your app to recieve push notifications when it is built or if you don't provide correct push certificates from apple to Adobe, push will do nothing (actually it will send an error if you have incorrect certififcates).
This is fully explain in Bob's most excellent documentation on app builder.

  • Push notifications not working even after i've enabled them in 'Settings'

I want Push notifications - alerts, badges, sounds. I accidentally pressed 'Don't Allow' when asked in Instagram and Kik. I read up on the issue and have been advised to go into Settings > Notifications> 'App' and then change the Push Notifications to 'on' but even after i've done that there has been no change and I still dont receive any notifactions when the app is not open.
How do i fix this???? I read somewhere about changing dates to 24 hours after and then re opening the app or something?? I'm not sure how this works. please help me. It's very annoying to be recieving messages and not know that i've gotten them.
    Thanks.

Do you have Location Services set to on? Or just for that one app?

  • Push notifications for specific apps not working even though the badge updates (Facebook, Google  etc.)

So this has been happening for months now. I was expecting iOS 5 to fix it, but it hasn't. Push notifications for specific apps do not work. Some come through just fine, but Facebook and Google+ in particular don't work correctly. Facebook push notifications seem to work when the notification is generated from an action performed on a mobile device (ie: someone writes on my wall from another iPhone); if they do the same thing on the desktop, the notification doesn't seem to come through.
As for Google+, I've never seen a single push notification come through as it should, even though I've seen other iPhones with the same app reciving these notifications with no issue.
This is particularly strange because the badge on the app icon usually updates (though it feels like fetch, not push), but the notifications simply don't make it into the notification center (or on the lock screen as they should). As I said, this has been happening for months, long before iOS 5, and the problem has persisted now that I'm running iOS 5.
I've checked and rechecked all notifiation settings for these apps. I've uninstalled and reinstalled them. I've called Apple support and they couldn't offer me any help. Does anyone have any idea what's going on here?
    Thanks for your time.

I got an iPhone 4s and I'm experiencing the same problems.  I used facebook messenger, and used to get the push notifications to that app, but now that i've deleted it I no longer get the messages directly to the facebook app.
I have push on in the mail settings and notification center for facebook are on as well.  I also have push notifications on in the settings for facebook.
I've tried deleting the app and reinstalling, no fix.  I haven't tried a hard reset yet.
So far, I figured out that it's not iOS or the facebook app, somehow it is a problem with my account.  I logged into my wife's account on my iphone and her account is able to recieve push notifications to my iphone.
    Any thoughts?

Return the iPhone and get your money back. It has been
hacked/modified/jailbroken and likely cannot be made

I have now followed multiple instructions from this and other forums. have turned push notifications off. Turned them on. Have updated to IOS 6. Have signed out and signed back in, have uninstalled all magazines and reinstalled. Have synced, and updated everything in iTunes.
Nothing works,. Also cannot use youtube.

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).  Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.
It might also be a good idea to contact Square for assistance.

  • Push notification badge/icon doesn't go away

i got an app that sent me a push notification the other day, but i found nothing when i opened the app and checked it. The problem is the push notification badge doesn't disappear, it's been there since then. I tried disabling the notifications function, restarting the phone, deleting and then reinstalling the app, but nothing turned out to be effective. The small number there is so annoying. Anyone knows how to deal with that?
    Thnx in advance!

Hey All!! I believe I have a fix for those who - like me - could not get it resolved with the steps above. I just fixed it on mine. And trust me - I tried each of the steps above several times - which SHOULD have worked but ... we are indeed talking about picky and delicate iPhones here, hehe. Ok - so ...
When the step of turning off the badge alert did not work, it got me thinking ... iMessage has several settings in the iPhone settings area. So let me play with those. And sure enough - the first setting change fixed it. Here is what ya do ...
    1. Go to Settings
    2. Simply Scroll Down to "Messages"
    3. Turn Off the Very First Option - "iMessage" At the Top
    4. Leave Settings and Check Home Screen to See the Badge Has Disappeared
    5. Return Back to Message Settings and Turn "iMessage" Back On
Voila! I hope this works for some folks!!

  • Process for Renewing Certificates/Push Notifications

Can someone please help me understand the process for renewing my Apple certs & push notification files? More specifically:
    1. Will Apple notify me when a cert needs to be renewed? Can I do this before it becomes due?
    2. What happens if a cert expires? Will my app no longer work?
    3. Do I need to rebuild/resubmit to Apple my app via the App Builder to update my certs or is there a way to update just the certs via Apple's portal?
Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

    1. No, Apple does not send a notification. If your dev and dist p12 cents expire, your app will be rejected at some point in the submission process--I don't recall when. It might be while building the app. If you don't update your app, expired dev and dist certs don't matter. Users can still use your app as before. You can even submit an app with expired push certs and your app will work fine--except for push, of course.
    2. The distribution app in the store and on users' devices will still work if the distribution p12 is expired, but you'll need to update the cert before you resubmit a new version of the app. That's my understanding. An expired push production cert affects only push itself. If your push cert is expired, you'll get an error message when you click Notify. Users can still subscribe, download, and view articles regardless of push, but they won't get badges or background downloads.
    3. If your dev and dist p12 certs are expired, just update them before you submit a new version. You don't need to rush to do it. For the p12 push cert, I don't believe that you need to resubmit the app. I believe that if you revoke and rebuild the push certs, the change is registered with Apple, and you can click Notify without an error. I'll be testing this soon.

  • Facebook For iOS App Push Notifications Not Working

Been seeing a lot of Threads for this problem but with no proper solution.
Ever since I updated my Facebook App to v9.0, I havent had any push notifications come to my phone. I've tried uninstalling/deleting the app & other connected apps (Paper, FB messenger) , logging out of the iOS integration, Resetting my phone, etc. but nothing's worked. The App doesn't even ask me if I want to Activate Notifications anymore when I Re-Install it....
The Phone Notifications are set to show in the lock screen & all, and the Push Notifications in the app are set to push for "All Notifications", but On the Web client I noticed that I had "Some notifications" listed in the settings (and I can't change those on the web, because it tells you to change them in the app) . The only way I know i have Notifications now is through the App Badge,, via Email or through Paper's Notification setup (But i still dont get all of them) ...
I wonder if it could be a server issue on Faceobook's End. There has to be some way to fix this problem....Help!!!

    Hi C_S1,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities! I understand that you are having some issues with Facebook notifications on your iPhone. It sounds like you have already done some great troubleshooting. I suggest looking at the Troubleshooting notifications section of the following article just to verify your previous steps.
    iOS: Understanding notifications
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3576
    Troubleshooting notifications
Push notifications require an active Wi-Fi or cellular connection.
Note: Notifications use Wi-Fi only when a cellular connection is unavailable. Firewalls and proxy servers may affect your ability to receive notifications. For more information, see Unable to use Apple Push Notification service (APNs).
If you're not receiving notifications for a specific app, try these steps:
Verify that the app supports notifications.
After installing an app or restoring a backup to a different iOS device, open the app to begin receiving notifications. If the app requires entering or logging in to an account, you will need to do this before receiving notifications.
Check Settings > Notification Center to ensure that the app is configured for notifications. If notifications do not appear in the Notification Center, verify that the Notification Center setting for the app is enabled.
    I hope this helps,
    -Joe

  • Weather Channel push notifications - iOS 8

I have The Weather Channel app v6.3.2 on my iPhone 6 (iOS 8.0.2). In a previous version still on my iPhone 4, I am able to configure push notifications for severe weather. The current app description even says in its feature listing "Push alerts & badges help make sure you know about the severe weather around you."
With the new version of the app, I can't figure out how to configure the alerts. The app doesn't appear in Settings -> Notifications as it did in previous versions. There are no notification settings in the app itself.
I do see within the app that it has an ACCOUNT section (Sign Up, Login). Does one now need an account to get notifications??
Any light anyone can shed on this would be helpful. FWIW, I have several other weather apps (I'm somewhat of a weather geek) which are configured for alerts, but sometimes the (former version of the) WC app has been the fastest with the alerts - which is helpful especially in the case of tornados and severe thunderstorms.

If there a specific error that you are receiving.  Please post the details of what, when, and where you are receiving an error.
I'm guessing that a push error could come from any of the following and likely more that I'm not think about:
Each individual email/contacts/calendar account that has push enabled
    Your iCloud account
    Your iMessages account
    Your Apple Store account
And, each individual application that you have allowed to do push in "Notifications" settings
I would carefully go through all of these settings and disable all of them for push notifications.
Then, if the error goes away, enable each one one at a time until you figure out which is causing the error.  Along the way you will likely greatly improve your battery life in the iPhone by having fewer things using "push".
    I hope this helps.

  • Push Notifications Never Worked on my 3GS

I know there are masses of posts about this but having read lots I can't find one covering my situation.
As far as I'm aware push notifications have never worked on my iPhone 3GS. I am now using iOS 4.2.1.
The phone was originally locked to O2 in the UK and they gave me an official unlock code to unlock it through iTunes - which I did successfully - when I moved out of the UK.
I can see many posts about problems with jailbroken phones - it's not jailbroken.
I can see many posts about problems with push notifications over WiFi - and while they don't work either, port 5223 is not blocked on my network, and more to the point push notifications don't work when I'm accessing the network visa the mobile network either - so my issue is not WiFi specific.
I have the notifications panel in settings, and for various apps all notifications are turned on, but I've never had a single notification.
I do get push Apple mail notifications (a bleep and the badge showing unread mail when I open the phone) but from what I've read I think this uses a different mechanism.
To be specific about some of the apps I'm having the problem with (and as mentioned none of them are notifying me) these are some that I have the following configured for push: Facebook, Google Goggles, Good Enterprise Email.
I have hard booted the phone (top and front button held down together until the Apple logo appears on the phone). I've ensured the software is up to date through iTunes.
Any suggestions for what else I can try to get push notifications working?

    I'm in the same situation.
I have never had PUSH notifications work on my IPhone 3GS as far as I know. Never received notifications from Facebook or any other PUSH type app.
I am not jailbroken and I'm on IOS 4.3, I purchased my phone and the SIM card that came with it was from ROGERS Communication, which is one of if not the largest provider in Canada.
It wasn't really an issue for me until I downloaded "Whatsapp" from the app store, which pretty much relies on PUSH notifications. With multiple tests, I have found out that none of the PUSH notifications come through unless I load the app, which defeats the purpose of having the app in the first place.
So, I too am looking for a fix. Didn't mean to hijack your thread or anything, but maybe if there are more people like us, maybe we can find a fix?

  • Sending Push Notifications with Adobe DPS

    Question.
I'm testing out all the Adobe DPS and Apple options. And one of the things I would like to test is Push Notifications.
I followed the iPad publishing guide to be able to get all the certificates so that's ok. Then I was looking for a way to send
push notifications. Because Adobe DPS doesn't really have a UI environment (PLEASE correct me if I'm wrong ;-) to send push
notifications I have to do it 'by hand'. When I tested my app on my iPad I got the "app name wants to send you push notifications",
so i'm sure my certificates are working. Now I just need to send a push message.
So I followed this great tutorial:
    http://www.raywenderlich.com/3443/apple-push-notification-services-tutorial-part-12
I was able to do everything and was able to send a push notification ... but I never received it. And the reason for this is because
I don't have the app device token, which is a 64 character serial number which acts as your app address. So I don't have any way of sending the notification
to my particular app. (which is a test sideload multifolio app).
Because the Adobe DPS is cloud based you don't get any code (which I love). But I think that is currently stopping me
from finding out my device token.
    What I'm asking:
    - Does this mean I can't send any push notifications to Adobe DPS created apps?
    - If this is supported somehow, I suppose (again, correct me) I need the app device token for the created app. Where do I get this?
    Thanks !

At this time, it's not possible to manually push notifications. When you enable push, only publishing a new folio displays the red badge. At some point, when third-party push is supported, manual pushes will be possible.
