Push settings

Installed Lion Server with profile manager following the book downloaded from Itunes.  Open the correct ports on the router.  Got a SSL certificate.  Enrolled 3 devices on the Profile Manager.  Push settings worked on one device initially.  After that success, all push settings failed.  Update info works, lock works, clear passcode works.  Currently push settings for one device is still active (30min).  Anyone have success pushing settings?

This is what I am finding.  If the device already has a activesync profile, push will not overwrite and fail

  • Error while configuring GCM: The push settings were not saved. Error 400

    Hi,
While configuring push settings for google cloud messaging in azure mobile services, i entered the server key received from google developer console.
When i try to save the entry, i get the message The push settings were not saved <mobile-serversices-site>: Error 400
I have regenerated the key multiple times but of no use.
Am I missing something? I am a paid subscriber of Azure
    Thanks, Laks.

Sorry for the late reply. Sometimes there are transient errors in the portal that affect whether or not the settings can be saved. Also, you should make sure that you have an associated notification hub (which will show up in your push settings). If there
is no associated hub, you will always get errors when trying to configure.

  • Remove & Push Settings failed

I am trying to get profilemanager working - currently sending remove/push settings does fail immediately (remove settings) or is pending forever (push settings: depending on payload?) whereas device enrolment, trust certificate installation, initial installation of settings using the website as well as requesting "Update Info" from profile manager does work.
    1. During my research, I found out what ports to open in the firewall - amongst others: 5223
    2. The server port should be accessible from 17.0.0.0/8 network
There I already seem to have an issue since I am not quite sure either it is a certificate, firewall, setup or service issue.
Am I wrong if I would expect port 5223 to be listening on the OS X server - at least for localhost?
    master:~ root# telnet 127.0.0.1 5223
    Trying 127.0.0.1...
telnet: connect to address 127.0.0.1: Connection refused
telnet: Unable to connect to remote host
    OS X: 10.10.2
    Server: 4.0.3
    Client: iPhone 6
    iOS: 8.2
    Thank you for your suggestions!

    Solved by some nasty issues
    1. When using self signed certificates on your server, make sure to export the ROOT certificate from your keychain to install by hand on your device(s)
    2. Do not use IKEv2 VPN or other profile settings restricted to "supervised devices" unless you are sure they are supervised
    3. Ignore the fact the your server may not listen to port 5223
If you are still having issue, enabling Push Notification Log will also help.

  • Push settings to AD users does not work / OD users works well

    Hi,
I still have problems to push settings to users from Microsoft ActiveDirectory with Profile Manager. I can't see an error message...
    What I did so far:
    - Domain-Name (I can't rename): dudel.local
    - Mac mini with Mavericks 10.9 and Server 3.0.1, IP 172.30.200.1/16, norad.dudel.local
    - iMac with Mavericks 10.9, IP 172.30.220.19/16, a220019.dudel.local
    - 2 Windows DNS Server on server daedalus.dudel.local (172.30.200.9) and prometheus.dudel.local (172.30.200.15)
    - 3 Windows Domain Controller on server daedalus.dudel.local (172.30.200.9), prometheus.dudel.local (172.30.200.15) and aurora.dudel.local (172.30.200.16)
    - Windows Domain Controller daedalus.dudel.local (172.30.200.9) acts as ntp server
    - Opened and forwarded ports tcp/2195, tcp/2196, tcp/5223 and tcp/1640 to 172.30.200.1 (norad.dudel.local). Since the web interface of profile manager is only accessable from inside, I do not forward tcp/80 and tcp/443 from outside.
    Mac mini:
    1. After a clean install of Mavericks and Server 3, I set LocalHostName, ComputerName and HostName:
              scutil --set HostName norad.dudel.local
              scutil --set ComputerName norad.dudel.local
              scutil --set LocalHostName norad
    2. Set in preferrences date/time server to 172.30.200.9 (daedalus.dudel.local)
    3. With Server 3 I requested a APNS certificate
    4. Checked DNS A and PTR with "changeip -checkhostname". changeip reports "success, there is nothing to change".
    5. Activated/Setup OpenDirectory with the standard self-signed certificate in Server 3
    6. Activated Web Server in Server 3
    7. Configured Profile Manager (http://krypted.com/iphone/setting-up-profile-manager-in-lion-server/)
    8. Bound norad.dudel.local (172.30.200.1) to ActiveDirectory:
dsconfigad -add dudel.local -username administrator -password secret
    9. Installed Workgroup Manager for Mavericks to set permission for users from ActiveDirectory (http://krypted.com/mac-security/integrating-mac-os-x-lion-servers-profile-manage r-with-active-directory/). After adding AD user 'marcus' to group com.apple.access_devicemanagement, I can add settings to the user with Profile Manager on https://norad.dudel.local/profilemanager
For testing I set the magnifying effect for the dock.
    iMac:
    1. After a cleant install of Mavericks I set LocalHostName, ComputerName and HostName:
              scutil --set HostName norad.dudel.local
              scutil --set ComputerName norad.dudel.local
              scutil --set LocalHostName norad
    2. Set in preferrences date/time server to 172.30.200.9 (daedalus.dudel.local)
    3. Bound to OpenDirectory norad.dudel.local
    4. Bound norad.dudel.local (172.30.200.1) to ActiveDirectory:
dsconfigad -add dudel.local -username administrator -password secret
    3. With the local user 'admin' I accessed https://norad.dudel.local/mydevices and installed the "Trust Profile for DUDEL" and then registered the device. In Profile Manager the device is there, after clicking to "Devices" on the left pane. The Device is associated to user 'admin'. I changed it, by clicking in Profile Manager on "Users/marcus" and then added the device with the plus-sign on the right pane.
After logging in with user 'marcus' on the iMac, there is no setting pushed to the user. The setting I did is still "pending". Logging of and loggin in as user 'admin' makes it happen... the pending task is successful... But now, the setting to the Dock is now at the user 'admin' and not at user 'marcus'
This only happens to AD users. I tried an OD user. All settings are applied successful to the specified OD user....
    What am I doing wrong?
    Kind regards,
    Marcus

Yes, DNS is is fundamental for networks, even for Windows networks. The DNS is working well for the existing Windows network and there are no problems in distributing certificates etc.
There are more than 150 users and 180 devices on the network without DNS problems.
I don't know how to discover a DNS problem... Windows works well.
DNS resolves fine... dig does it for "a" records and "ptr" records. nslookup resolves, too.
When the problem is a faulty DNS, why does the usage of users/devices from OD work with Profile Manager?
Renaming and/or migrating the ActiveDirectory is not possible. First, I want to be sure that there is a faulty DNS.
The .local TLD is not optimal for Bonjour/mDNS but I can't believe that there is no workaround

  • Push Settings Failed

    Hi,
I got my new Mac Mini server last week and set it up for Profile Manager.
Got the certificates from Apple's Push Notification Server and all was working well. (Could push settings to iPads).
But on Wednesday, it stopped pushing new settings onto new iPads & iPhones (Completed Tasks lists "Push Settings 1 Failed").
I have enrolled the devices through https://macserver.local/mydevices and have installed the Trust Profile.
Could someone please shed some light on this?
    -David

As today 10/01/2014 and probably one version more OSX Server 3.0.2 with Profile Manager still not push certificates payloads.

  • Push settings always fail now with Profile Manager

So for the last months no matter what we do push settings always fails when enrolling a new device into the MDM. All ports are open on both networks (MDM and iPad), and we can normally enroll and push apps fine, but settings never go through.
What's the next step here? Is this a known issue?
In addition to that we often have problems enrolling devices, and they get stuck and stay "in progress" forever. The iPads can access the web interface to the MDM server just fine. Enrolling these devices through Apple Configurator.

Make sure the ports MDM requires are open to the outside
where there any changes made to profiles round or network about the time this started happening
have a look in the server logs, it might indicate what's wrong

I've setup various profiles for devices and users. Settings for ios devices works fine but settings for users on a mac seem to hang indefinetely. IT keeps sending in my profile manager and never seems to be able to push the settings.

  • Issue with Find My iPhone and Push settings

OK...I have three iPhone 4's and an iPad (all with the latest updates). All but one of the iPhones will allow Push. The advanced settings only give me an option for manual or fetch. Therefore, I can not set-up Find My iPhone on the one phone (although working fine on the other devices). I've tried everything: signed up for "me" account, changed passwords, deleted all other mail accounts, deleted and reset up me account, etc. The settings are identical in every way to the other phones, but still no luck. OK...the last bit of info...it did work when we first bought it, but my daughter deleted the mobile me mail account because she didn't know what it was (yeah right). But since then...nothing!

Thanks, but I have added it back (several times) and there is still no "push" under advanced settings, just manual and fetch.

  • Push Notifications

I am finding that with some of my push notifications it's not happening at all, for example, mail is not pushed through unless I go into the mail app..what's up with that? Or Facebook app does not send me notifications unless I go into the app and re-load.. Shouldn't push notifications mean that when the phone is locked that an alert still comes through to say new mail?
I went into the Apple store and the guy told me to just take off push notifications option, restart and then set to on again..but yet this has stopped once again.. I went from Bberry to Iphone and find that this was never an issue with the Bberry, that mail or alerts for social networking apps sent notifications through the instant it's sent to me.
Also using an app like Meebo, when i click into it, it says talking to Meebo and then bring up new messages, surely with push notifications and multi-tasking the app should always be connected and not needing to be opened to update?
anyone else experiencing? App support any suggestions?
    Ta
    Don Kerleone

I had this for some apps and even my mail. For my mail I deleted the accounts off the phone and then added them again. Comes through instantly now. Some of the naming conventions for the mailboxes were different while setting it up, so not sure if that was it. Did the same for facebook. Delete the app and re-install it. Then check the push settings for the App. Push notifications seem to be back on track for me.

  • Contacts and Calendar not Pushing

After doing a restore and update to 2.1 my contacts and calendar data are no longer in my phone. I have set the push switches for the email address to one (email works fine). I have changed the push settings on the iPhone to manual, then 15. I have gone back to the email account and cancelled sync and restarted it. The data is just not downloading from the cloud.
Any other ideas on how to encourage this to happen?
    Thanks

Looking into this further, I found that my email address in my iPhone had a double @me.com. The address was [email protected]@me.com. The second @me.com did not show until I deleted the address and tried to type it in again. Then immediately the @me.com would appear after what I was typing but before the @me.com.
I deleted the account and created a new one, and everything works for now.

  • Can't turn off Yahoo Push Email Features

I have a Yahoo Mail Plus account, and with this service, my home and laptop computers download mail from the Yahoo POP server on a regular basis. As with any mail client and POP mail, each client sees the mail as unread until I read it on that machine.
However, Yahoo Mail Plus, when accessed online, sees the downloaded messages as read. This would be fine, but it also results in my iPhone thinking I never have new/unread mail -- so even if I have 20 new message, if they have been downloaded by my desktop computer, the Mail app on my iPhone will say there are no new messages (the messages are on the iPhone, but they appear as already being read). The crazy thing is, this happens even when I turn off the general push and Yahoo account specific push settings on the iPhone. I wish I could get my iPhone to treat my Yahoo mail the same as all my other POP mail accounts, but it appears the clever people at Apple and Yahoo don't allow this to happen. Anyone have any ideas on how to make my iPhone mail app treat my Yahoo Mail Plus account like a normal POP account?
Message was edited by: Rob Mitchell1

Sure Apple and Yahoo allow this, but it is up to the user to know the difference when creating the account. This is called garbage in = garbage out, which happens to everyone on occasion.
When creating a Yahoo account with the Yahoo account preset on the iPhone, the account is created as an IMAP account with Push access. Turning Push access off for recieved messages doesn't change or switch the account to a POP account. It is still an IMAP account with Push access turned off.
You want to access the account as a POP account. If so, delete your Yahoo account on the iPhone and when re-creating the account select "Other" instead. After the data entry on the first screen, select POP as the account type followed by entering the required settings for accessing the account as a POP account.
