Push transition in iMovie 11?

I have iMovie 11 and want to use a push transition. It does not appear that iMovie 11 has it. Anyone know how to find it, or whether or not there is a plugin for it?

You may have read about it in this discussion topic (it was mentioned by rizey33 in the post dated 4 December 2012):

  • Importing transitions from imovie to final cut problems

Hello, I made a musicvideo in imovie, it´s all finished with cuts and transitions but I want to make the "final touch" with balance, colours etc in final cut.
The problem: when I import the imovie project into final cut pro x the clips and the transitions changes the duration so the clips nolonger sync with the music and some of the clips are much longer/shorter than the original. I don´t want to do all the job again, editing and add new transitions in final cut as it already took me a long time......Anyone have any solution?

You can delete the transitions in iMovie and re-add them after importing into FCP X. Granted, this is some work, but it should not be all that much. It is easy to add a number of transitions and to set their parameters all at once.
Like BenB said, transitions behave differently in both programs, and they do not match, so this conversion can cause problems, as you are now well aware.

I want you to know, Tom, that you are your only reason that I'm still using FCP X and not banging my head against the wall. I hope Apple is compensating you well.
What do you mean by "export it and import it into FCP?" Neither program has an  export feature. I have already imported my iMovie project to FCP X with the map and it didn't come over correctly. Where the map should be  there is simply a slide saying, "title & subtitle."

I am having issues with adjusting the duration of time for each still frame and transition in imovie 11.  Each time that I adjust these times, the application does not accept the change, and instead automatically enters its own time. Is there a work around this? Or am I doing something wrong? Please Help!
    Thank you,

Have you tried turning off automatic transitions ? Choose file - project properties and follow the dialogue box to change duration with a slider.  iMovie also doesn't allow a transition to be more than 50% duration of the clip its attached to. In other words if the clip is 4 seconds the transition cannot be more than 2 seconds and remember that relates to the first clip as the following clip (right side) is pulled back to overlay it.
Does this help.  Perhaps you already know this ?

  • Slide/Push transition help

I'm working on a video using various slide/push transitions, and what I need help with is creating a way for all the sliding clips move at the same time, as one continuous slide/push similar to this Star Wars parody clip using the "Dallas" theme :
The slide I want to use starts at 12 second in.

  • Transitions in iMovie 5.0.2 not working

None of the transitions in iMovie 5.0.2 are working for me. I have a 45 minute project edited down from 2 hours, now I come to add the titles and transitions, and they don't work...
Titles on a black background are working fine. However, all transitions and title over clips are badly corrupting the clips. You can tell the picture is the same as the clip, but it looks like a TV that is badly tuned and without vertical sync (the picture is corrupt and scrolling upwards).
I have just noticed that my iMovie is NTSC, but my camera is PAL. Could this explain it...? But I don't really see how, since I can scroll all the 29 NTSC frames in each second just fine.
Has anyone come across this and found a way to make it work okay?

    Hi Tony,
    welcome to this forum
    I'm afraid:
you should start your project from the beginning....
my guess: you imported your footage WHILE the demo was open in the timeline of iM, right? that is NTSC stuff; now, iMHD allows to import different video standards into one project, but that is not best practise, and can reuslt in very cheap quality of project....
choose New Project, in the settings choose "25" - less intuitive, that stands for PAL... which has 25fps (but who know that?) besides, 30 is NTSC....

  • Impossible de modifier la durée des transitions dans IMovies 10.0

Impossible de modifier la durée des transitions dans IMovies 10.0 / Mac OS Mavericks 10.9

    1. remove xulrunner, icecat, and wireless_tools (assuming you didn't already remove wireless_tools when it asked you about it)
    2. install icecat again but this time modify the pkgbuild (change the depends  xulrunner=1.9.2.4 to xulrunner=1.9.2.6)
(the package was failing to build because the icecat pkgbuild specifies a specific version of xulrunner and the maintainer never changed it when the new version of xulrunner came out.)

  • Transition problem imovie 10

I can not change the time transitions in imovie 10, they remain 1 s ?

I think I found the answer, actually. It seems to happen when the clips are too short to overlap properly and imovie keeps the transition as short as possible. you can work around it though, as long as the clip is at least a few seconds long.
Right-Click on the transition and choose Show Precision Editor.
The transition opens up and you can see the overlap between the two clips, with the transition in between them. If you grab the left or right edge of the transition you should be able to stretch it out and increase the duration. You may need to give the transition more room by to repositioning the clips. This can be done by clicking and dragging the clips left or right.

  • Are there more transitions in imovie 11

are there more transitions in imovie 11

I like to speak of iM-a and iM-b, vers≤6 and iM08/09/11 .. iM-b is from ground new, internally using a complete diff. technique to create titles, effects, transitions ...-
and, yes, due to the new 'Trailers' and 'Themes' there are a few, handful of new transitions - but more doesn't automatically mean better. (compare to any Hollywood movie: cross-fades, fade to black and ...?)
iM11 is great, for 14€ (at AppStore) worth every penny!

  • Transitions in imovie 6.0.3 using imac 10.4.8

I am creating short imovies with combinations of scanned photos, images from my digital camera and images from a digital video camera. With about 30 or 40 items in the time line I wish to place transitions between them. When I do this however I have success with about 50 % of the transitions.
Flaws manifest themselves in various forms depending on the type of transition and whether I attempt to place 1 or more transitions simultaneously. If I attempt to place just one overlap transition between two items, imovie simply and consistantly quits. If I attempt to place several overlap transitions simultaneously I get black transitions (rendering occurs suspiciously quick i.e. there is no rendering). With any other transition whether single or multiple the transition works great up until the last 100th of the transition where it is black. In playback this appears as an annoying flash.
Again these flaws occur with just a select number of images in the time line but they happen consistantly and predictably (these flaws do not seem random)
    Any suggestions?

    Hello,
Welcome to the discussions. There have been some transition problems reported, although maybe not so many problems as you are experiencing.
I had the black/flash with the transition cross-dissolve in one of my movies recently. I found the suggestions in this thread to resolve that: http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=3842119#3842119
Have a look and see if it can help you.

  • Another Transitions in iMovie (10.0.7 latest)

I just bought my first iMac (brand new) and see transitions in TEMPLATED movies that are not available in 'from scratch" ones.
I previously was in Windoze-land using Corel's video program with all sorts of transitions, where this iMac comes with very few.
Should I assume that industry-standard plug-ins will not work?  How do I add some more (like Apple iMovie Plug-in Pack) and to what folder?
Same for titles.  So far, the program is great, but titles and transitions seem too few and not addable.
    Is this right?
    Thanks for helping the newbie!

  • Problems setting duration for still photos and transitions in iMovie '11

I downloaded iMovie 11 from the Apps Store last night and am trying to make my first movie with it today. I use still photos exclusively.
For most - but not all - I like 5 seconds for photos and for transitions 2 seconds. I do vary this on occasion and so do not check "for all photos' or "for all transitions".
I can't get these settings to work with this version of iMovie. For example, I added a photo (5 sec) then a transition (2 sec) which changed the duration time of the photo - as it should. But when I double clicked the photo, to bring up the inspector window to change the duration of the photo, nothing happened. Then I added another photo. The duration of the first photo increased to 7 seconds and nothing I do seemed to change that.
The time increases seem random: for example, sometimes the time on the still photo increases to 6:29 sec, sometimes to 7 sec.
The duration for the transitions always remains the same - 2 sec; it's the time for the photos that jumps around. And I haven't been able to find a way to get back to 5 sec.
Before posting this, I researched and found an number of earlier posts detailing the same issues.
However, none of these posts had stars to indicate the problem was solved.
Has anyone found a solution or is this a bug that should be reported to Apple?

    Interesting!!
I've spent a lot of hours on this too, but I have come up with a different solution perhaps because I like to vary both the image duration and the transition duration in my movies.
    Here's my process:
-> Knowing that (a) I want most of the photos to be visible for 5 seconds and most transitions for 2 seconds and (b) that a transition takes half from the photo before and half from the photo after, under File>Project Properties>Photo Duration I chose 7 seconds - each photo will 'lose' a total of 2 seconds from the transitions in front and behind. I did not check either "Applies to all transitions." or "Applies to all photos." - See below for why.
-> I discovered, as you have, that all the photos have to go in before I add any transitions. This was new to me. With all previous versions of iMovie I simply added a photo then a transition then another photo one at a time. I had to fiddle with the timing adjustments, but at least I could fiddle. With this new version of iMovie I can't. Once the transition is in place, I cannot change the duration of the photo.
-> Sometimes, I want a longer or shorter duration for a photo. For example, on photos to which I apply the Ken Burns effect, I often want the image on the screen for a slightly longer time. In this case, I have to use the inspector to change the duration before I add the transitions. So I might set the time for 8 seconds; when both transitions are added, the time for this photo becomes 6 seconds, which is what I want.
-> The same applies if I want a transition to be shorter or longer than 2 seconds. If, for example, I want the duration for a transition to be 1 second, then I have to change the duration on the two linked photos to 5 1/2 seconds.
All of this requires much more prior planning than I am used to with iMovie. Right now, I working with batches of 5 or 6 photos at a time. I don't put a transition on the last photo in the batch until I have added the next group of photos. And things get really tricky if I don't like my original design. If I want to change anything, I have to take out all of the transitions linking the photos I want to work on, do the math, make the changes in the photo durations, then put the transitions back.
Perhaps I am trying to make iMovie do more than it was intended to do, I don't know. Perhaps this problem stems from the fact that I bought just iMovie 11 from the Mac Apps Store and not the entire iLife 11. Don't know that either. But at least I have found a way to make the movie look the way I want it to look.
Thanks for sharing your process. I will use it when the circumstances are right.

  • Can't set Transition times. iMove does it's own thing random times.

When I try to enter a transition time between clips it may actually change but not to what I had entered. If it changes at all, it tends to be to a random number.  I have the preferances set at 3:00  but even this does nothing, the default remains at 0:05 which is vertually no transition.
Can anyone enlighten me?     What am I doing wrong ?    Has any else had this problem ?

I am interested in knowing where or how you acquired such information.  It is a source I obviously need to investigate myself. There must be more unknown hidden gems lerking in there.
    oral tradition.
When I started participating here, Karl Petersen was the undisputed iM Mastermind. He knew everything about iM; I never figured out, but I suspect, he was in contact with Randy U's team at Cupertino.
Somehow, we lost him here. I'm not the 'community'-guy, rumors has it, he passed away (not only here).
Second source was/is Daniel Slagle's Unofficial FAQ ... he doesn't maintain it anymore, since the rise of iMovie-b.
Taking a look behind the odds of iM was Lennart Thelander's website (wow, really old school hand-coded!), which listed bugs and gave help for iM-a. Lennart didn't switch to iM-b yet, now avail for about four years - too new for Lennart, too fast development ... so, no news from there.
For sure, David Pogue's Missing Manuals books have to be mentioned ...
In all modesty, I'd like to mention my own websites ... me no engineer, diff. attitude here: Daddy (=me) likes movies and especially special-effects - so, how to accomplish magic with a 12$ app? or, how to modify iDVD to my needs?
We 'combined forces' in the iMovie Output Project when the discussions about interlaced got boring.-
With iM-b coming up, Aaron's Unlocking iMovie is another source for 'tricks' (I'm jealous about his professional design …)
And finally, a while ago I was highly irritated, that FinalCut Pro Mastermind Tom Wolsky joined the 'amateurs party' here, he's a FC/p sensei, usually participating in the pro forums ... that was before iMovie-on-steroids (=FCPX) appeared ... now, I know why   he actually published a worth reading book about transition from iM to FCPX
... the rest is ... experience, interest, curiosity, and hours of reading any source, from wikipedia to fcp.co ...

  • How to make text continuous, unaffected by transitions, in iMovie 10.0.2?

I am making a slideshow on iMovie 10.0.2, and I want to put a single caption for multiple pictures, but the text flashes off when the transitions happen, for a second, and come back on after the transition.  Is there a way for the text to be continuous, unaffected by the transitions?  It is distracting to watch the pictures when the text flashes off and back on for a second.
I used the automatic content to add the transitions and duration of the pictures, and I think this may be affecting it, but I am not sure.
    Thanks for any help!!

It happens with all titles I try.  When I first created the slide show, I was manually changing the duration and adding the transitions, and the transitions have no effect on the title. But because I have a lot of pictures in the slide show, I used the automatic content to automatically change the duration and insert transitions.  This is when the text began to flash off with the transitions.
The beginning of the video is fine--transitions have no effect on the text, up until the point I switched to the automatic content.  After that point is when the titles flash off with the transitions.
