Pushing Configs to devices using Cisco Prime Infrastructure

Hi All,
I am trying to push a simple configuration to WLC using Prime Infrastructure. But it is failing as PI doesnot have RW SNMP access.
My question is that can I use PI to push configs without using SNMP. Like do it using ftp or something.
Also do the Wired Devices also need SNMP RW access on PI's part.
All your help is appreciated.

You need SNMP RW.
If you use CLI template you need ssh/telnet credentials though.

I have installed Cisco Prime Infrastructure 2.2 and Prime Infrastructure still doesn't seem to support the Nexus 6001 platform? Can someone tell me if Cisco Prime Infrastructure will ever support the Cisco Nexus 6001 platform or is there any plans to support it in any future device packs?

The Nexus 6001 isn't currently supported in PI 2.1. There's no workaround except to wait for a device or product update that adds support. Right now I know the 9000 series is on the 2.2 roadmap but I haven't seen any reference to the 6001 and PI.
Interestingly, Prime LMS does support both the 6001 and 6004. Reference.

Email notification for config deployment jobs in Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.2 ??

We're upgrading from LMS 3.2 to Cisco Prime Infrastructure ...
In LMS 3.2 we're using netconfig all the time to configure various jobs related to port security
In installing Cisco Prime Infrastructure and working through it's use of templates, I'm having some difficulty finding out how to send out a notification once a configuration job has completed. It's so simple in LMS 3.2 since it's part of the job creation screens.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Differences between clients and devices in Cisco Prime infrastructure

I read the Prime Licensing Guide in order to size the
right version of OVA to deploy in my datacenter .
I don't understand what is a "client" , because there is a topic about it in the data sheet :(cf joined pic)

By client , it mean wired client like your laptop or wireless client like your smart phone
License is depended on the devices count not on client count.

Cisco Prime Infrastructure 2.0 -- Third Party Devices

Hello,
we are using cisco prime infrastructure 2.0. Is it possible to manage third party devices? (We have a lot of Enterasys Switches)
When i want to Archive the config of the device there is an error --> No Device Package found for the specific device.
It is necessary to install device packages for third party devices? Where can i find and install these packages?

...and I doubt it will come (quickly) because config management has a lot of pitfalls and Cisco has a lot to do to get around all of them with their own devices..
However, Inventory Management for third party devices is on the road-map

Some question about Cisco Prime Infrastructure

I have some question about using Cisco prime Infrastructure:
- Can I show how many user access to one Access Point (AP) ?
- If I can. What is display information of user ? etc Ip address, MAC, username access, name of device (notebook, tablet, phone ..)
- How many time do Cisco Prime Infrastructure refesh user informantion .?

1- You can surely find how many clients associated to a specific AP.
- Informaiton of the client usually includes username, SSID, ip address, mac address, RSSI, device vendor...etc. I don't think it contains the device type (ipad or iphone both appear as apple vendor. it does not destinguish between this and that.
3- The time of the refreshment is configurable. You need to configure the corresponding background task for the poll period. (this is also metnioned in the link above).

Cisco prime infrastructure 2.2

I did like to know how i can create a baseline template using Cisco prime infrastructure 2.2 in order to compare configuration of devices.
Also I would like to inquire how I can generate a CLI template and view the CLI template before applying/deploying it to a particular device or devices.

Having just started with Prime not that long ago, I'm afraid I can't help with your first question. However, for your second question:
Go to Configuration > Templates > Features and Technologies
Along the left menu, expand CLI Templates and click on CLI
This will bring up a new, blank CLI template to the right of the menu
Just fill out the info at the top section, and input your CLI/Velocity code in the bottom section
Once you have the code like you want it, click the "Save as New Template" button at the bottom
A window will pop-up asking where you want to save it within the "My Templates" folder
Once you've selected a location, click the Save button
Your window will automatically refresh to show the newly created custom CLI template - you will now have the option to edit your template as needed, or deploy it as-is to PI devices.
To deploy the template, select the Deploy button along the bottom
A new window will pop up that allows you to prepare and schedule the template. Select the device or devices you wish to deploy to. The devices you have available to deploy to will be based on the Validation Criteria you entered when creating the template.
If you opted to use the awesome variables available to CLI templates, you can either enter those for all selected devices in the Value Assignment section, or you can fill out the variables on a per-device basis. You will skip this section if you did not define any variables. If you did use variables, you must click the Apply button at the bottom of this section after you fill in the variables, or you will receive the following error:Mandatory fields are not entered for some devices or you have not saved your changes. To save the changes, click on Apply.
In the Schedule section, you can select when the template is deployed - "Now" is the default.
Finally, the Job Option section allows you to select how Prime handles a deployment failure, whether you want Prime to save the config to startup after the deployment, and whether you want to initiate a config archive after the deployment.

Getting past "Fetch VLAN configuration - Command failed" errors in Cisco Prime Infrastructure 2.0 - How?

I've got a handful of devices in Cisco Prime Infrastructure 2.0 which show up in the "Archive Failed Devices" view. The "Failure Reason" is some variation of "Fetch VLAN configuration - Command failed" sometimes including "TELNET: Failed to establish TELNET connection to x.x.x.x". What does this mean? How do I overcome this? In all cases, the device is configured to use SSH and has valid SSH credentials. In all cases, I can SSH from the command line of the NCS appliance to the devices listed in the "Archive Failed Devices" view.

I was able to fix the "Fetch VLAN configuration - Command failed" by allowing tftp from the device to PI server in firewall. See if this can help.

Cisco Prime Infrastructure 2.0 Alarms (switch port down)

We have a cisco Prime Infrastructure 2.0 managing switches, routers and AP.
By default, when a port of a switch goes down, the cisco Prime Infrastructre generates a Critical Alarm for that. (this is a problem, because every phone of laptop disconnection will generate a critical alarm for me)
I found out that if we go to Administration --> Alarm Severity --> Link down, I can change the Alarm from Critical to another type of alarm.(ex: warning)
The problem is that I want to keep the Critical Alarm for my Uplinks ports and for some important switch ports, and I would like to make the alarm as warning for the normal user ports.
I know that I can create Port Groupping and add ports to each group and apply monitoring templates on those groups. But This couldn't Help me solving my alarm problem.
So I just need to know how to manage the alarms severity for each group of ports.

Now the rule shows Deployed: Yes and Status: Active. After that I just pulled out one port which was in monitored group, waited 5min as it is set in Interface Health (default) template, and nothing happened, and worse, alarms started to show up of other ports where regular users are connected (computers was turned off), which I do not want to see at all. Any suggestions how to make port monitoring work?

Cisco Prime infrastructure 1.2.1.012 -- HA issue

I will explain the background before, our customer using Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.2.1.012 and do HA. However I got error message wcss1 (in attaced file) from HA configuration. (First I had done HA configuration before and it worked. But I get error message wcss1 after i tested failover on cisco prime). I found bug case CSCud12229 that is same error message. But i still confuse with work around "Workaround:Change the database mode to Read-Write by executing query ?alter database open? or execute the shell script - /opt/CSCOlumos/bin/recover_HADeadLock.sh" anyone understand please help.
And another option I tried to upgrade with version 1.3 also but it have a bug no CSCud80157. It is the problem with HA registration fial so, i would like to ask you all that if i need to do HA on Cisco Prime infrastructure which version i should to install ? coz I saw 1.2 or 1.3 also have a bug with HA

Currently I am not allowed to upgrade it because of internal procedures involved in upgrading a specific piece of software (obtaining permissions from various departments). Is it free to upgrade from 1.2 to 1.3 or there is a specific charge for that.

Hello. Cisco Prime LMS will be replaced by Cisco Prime Infrastructure in the near future.
In the current release of Cisco Prime Infrastructure you can't use topology diagrams. This feature is in roadmap.
About syslog, you can send syslogs to Cisco Prime Infrastructure, but I don't recommend using it as syslog server. Please see this link for more information https://supportforums.cisco.com/thread/2179520

I'm student in a big company and my manager gave me a mission to study an IPAM solution.
In 3 month, we will use Cisco Prime Infrastructure 2.0
I turn to you cause I saw on this doc (link below) that CP Infrastructure 2.0 includes an IPAM Solution.

The Network Registrar product is usually seen only in very large enterprises or service providers as it is designed to sale up to serving hundreds of thousands of addresses.
In smaller organizations looking to move beyond the spreadsheet method of keeping track of subnets, I have seen people have success with IPPlan (open source). Those wishing more functions and a supported product often go with SolarWinds IP Address Manager (IPAM) product.

Cisco Prime Infrastructure 2.0 not showing alerts from switch

I have a prime infrastructure 2.0 running at a customer place and the customer now complains that he is not receiving link up/down messages from the switch. When i checked I have seen that if I shut down a port in the switch the prime identifies after a long time, but its not generating an alarm still. How can I fine tune the prime to fix this issue. Please help on this.

Basically all traps are enabled but absolutely nothing is showing up in my Prime Infra except that my 4 devices are "Reachable".

Hi Jeremy,
SNMP traps are shown in the events and alerts section of PI.
SNMP config looks fine. Can you run the SNMP debug (debug snmp packets ) .check the logs and see if the device is actually sending the TRAPS to the PI server.
