Pushing content to iPads, possibly by using OS X Lion Server?

Is there a way to wirelessly push content/make content available using Lion server for iPad users on Macs AND PCs? We have an iPad pilot project for sales reps at my company, and we're trying to find a way to get the users their content without having to have iPads FedExed back and forth so we can update them on our iMac (it was the easiest way for me to manage the content). The sales reps are not particularly iPad-adept and we want to ensure they all have precisely the content we'd like.
Not sure what our next big step should be.
Thanks!
Emily

We have photos, videos, lots and lots of PDFs. Ideally I think we'd like to push something like an iPad backup so the reps could have the categories and keywords loaded on automatically as well. It's a medical products company, and I think the biggest thing is the organization on the iPad. We have it right now so that the reps can search for a keyword in spotlight (say, "hip") and get all of the items associated with hips—videos, photos, and PDF brochures.
Haven't looked into MDM. I don't have any experience with that.

  • Is it possible to use Standalone Apache web server with APEX ?

    HI,
We are currently evaluating Oracle Applciation Express to be part of our product suite.
Currently, in our software landscape, we are using standalone apache http server on the database server (Required for our java front end application). We support our product on both 9i & 10g. My query is for Oracle APEX, can I use the same standaloe apache http server or Is it a must that I have to use Oracle HTTP server. (I read abt' embedded PL/SQL gateway, however I am not sure whether it's supported on 9i). I am not sure, whether for mod_plsql we have to use Oracle HTTP server only.
Any inputs on this will be of great help.
    Thanks,
    Ganesh

To access APEX through Apache, you need to use mod_plsql. I don't think there is a mod_plsql plug-in that you can install into a standalone Apacher server. I could be wrong, someone else might know more about this.
I think it would probably be easiest to use the HTTP server that comes on the 10g companion disk - that comes "free" when you buy the database. It is Apache and it has mod_plsql already installed and set up.
Seems like I played around with the embedded PL/SQL gateway (DBMS_EPG package) on 9i a while ago. I could be wrong, it was a while ago. I was in the process of upgrading 8iR3 to 9iR2 and also evaluating new features of 10gR1. Things seem to mesh together after time.
    Thanks,

  • Is it possible to use a 10.9 server for authentication to apple clients without providing a network home?

We are testing 10.9 server with 2 10.9 clients.  We would like to get away from Network Homes completely, but still provide authentication from our servers.  All users homes need to be on the local Workstations.  So far we have had no success.  Test user accounts that we have created with homes on the 10.9 server login fine.  However, user accounts that we have created with no homes get the infamous shake.  I havent been able to find anything in the logfiles on the server that indicate what the problem might be.  Im thinking this setup may not even be possible.
    ddh

Firstly not only is this more than possible but it really should be easy.
Let's pretend the local account on one of your workstation's is 'dwayne' and has a password to match. You'd create a user account using the Server App with the same credentials (username and password). On configured shares add that user account to the share as an ACL (not a POSIX user), apply desired permissions and propagate.
Alternatively create an account that is not related to the dwayne local account in any way. Let's call it 'user' instead with a password to match. You use that instead to connect to the server.
Treat every other user in the same way.
By connect I mean "Connect to Server" from the Go Menu. When using the Go Menu you can either use the server's IP address (eg: 172.16.16.254) or it's FQDN (assuming DNS is set up correctly) or even it's Bonjour name (eg: server.local).
It really makes no difference whether you create a user with a network home or for services only. It's all about how you connect to the Server. If you've gone for networked homes you could bind client workstations to the server if you wish (although there's no real requirement for you to do so) and providing the required network elements are in place and functioning correctly (we're rmostly talking about DNS here) users with networked accounts will be able to log in and access their home folders on any workstation that's been bound to the mac server. But you could just as easily not bind client workstations and use the same account details to access a properly configured server shares (and additionally the user's network home folder) by selecting "Connect to Server" from the Go Menu instead.

  • Can I use Mac Mini Lion server and Time Machine 2Tb together?

I have TM already and am looking to add a Mac Mini running O XS server soon. I use TM to back up my iMac and MacBook Pro laptop at present. My existing setup also includes a PC running windows which is backed up by an HP media smart server. I want to replace the PC with a Macmini running parallels and windows 7 to run my windows program's and want the TM to back this up also.  I would like the MM server to run my iTunes library to all Apple devices and need to access the files stored on the MM server from my iPad. Is this solution workable?

The only differences between the current Mac Mini Server
and the other Mini versions is that it has the quad core i7,
comes with dual drives, and has the "Server app" installed.
So, you could install Lion by itself as the server software
is now a seperate "app" in Lion as opposed to being an
    integral part of the OS.
BTW, what is the problem you are having?
I am running a 2011 Mini Server as a desktop and simply
just did not enable any of the server features when I first
set up and have not had any issues using it as a desktop.

  • Possible to shut off iCloud SMTP Server on iPhone?

Is it possible to use my own smtp server on my icloud account on my iphone.  Really starting to annoy me that I can't figure out how to disable the primary server and use my own.  Thanks!

Go to Settings > Mail, Calendars and Contacts > iCloud > Account > Mail > SMTP. There you can add additional SMTP servers and disable the iCloud server. I don't know how well that will work, though, since I haven't actually tried it.

Is it possible to use Workgroup Manager and Server Admin 10.5 running on Leopard Client to administer Tiger Server?

I'm having major problems with server tools managing my 10.4.11 server. I'm finding that at least with the web management tools, I cannot make any changes to the 10.4 server Sites. To make matters worse, I cannot install 10.4 tools to get back that functionality.

  • Does anyone know how to publish a site using Lion server.

I have made a web site using I web and was trying to publish it using FTP and lion server but was quite sure were to find the server address and other required info.
If anyone can help it'd be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

You shouldn't need to use ftp to publish a site when using a server, this is the whole point, that you are not uploading anywhere external, but are hosting yourself on a dedicated computer running a server.
This is not really the place to ask.  There should be more forums here that are specially dedicated to Lion server issues.
Try looking at the pages on the Apple site under info on Lion server and there should be a user manual for you to look at for Lion sever.  Try looking at this.
This is an iWeb forum so not really the right place to ask questions regarding server issues.

  • Is it possible to use wildcards to match cell contents in an if statement?

I need to return a ID along with some other information on a page by page basis, so that the information comes out linked by position.  I use a couple of loops and if statements to navigate through the document.  I am able to use exact matches of cell contents which is fine when the contents doesn't vary.  But the IDs, though they have a similar pattern, are all different. In a menu driven search, I am able to find what I need with '150^9^9^9^9^9-^9^9^9' But when I try putting this (or any number of [0-9], *, ? combinations) it fails.  Is it possible to use wildcards?  The symbol used for the match (==) makes me suspect that it is not possible and that only literal, exact matches will work.  But I wanted to check with the experts before giving up.
    Thanks
    pcbaz

Thanks for the input.  You're right, a GREP search is much more efficient.  But what I'm trying to do and the circumstances here don't allow me, I think,  to go that route. I am trying to generate a list of values coming from several textframes on a single page and have them come out so that I can tell which values belong together.
I'm using an inherited document with masters that were created 'manually';  the index numbering for textframes and tables is random. I navigate through the pages, looping through textframe indices asking ' does this textframe exist?' If so, I ask if it is a table -- if no, it is a simple textframe and I ask about the ID, if yes, I ask if the contents of cell (0,0) (invariant position and contents) are equal to the table I want..  I am sending the ID and other pieces of information from the table to one row of a new table on a new page.  So the ID and other information from a single page are linked by being in the same row.
I know this a little 'off-normal' -- I'm using the search to navigate through the document and find things by location the way you do with a spreadsheet.  I have devised a work-around that helps me get around the fact that the ID is not invariant.  I create a list of the (exact) IDs from another document, equating them to a variable ('a').  I then loop through the list of IDs and ask if the contents of the textframe is equal to 'a'..This works o.k, unless there happens to be an extra space, a different kind of hyphen, etc. It would be so much easier if I could use the wildcards that work in a menu-driven text or GREP search in script just to ask about the contents of the textframe.
    Thanks again
    pcbaz (Peter BIerly)
P.S. we have since rewritten the masters so this problem will not exist in the future -- we now know exactly which textframe and/or table indices to refer to to get any particular bits of information and don't need to ask questions about the contents.
