Put iMac to sleep wakes up when wireless device switched off

Brand new iMac - click to put it to sleep but when switching off wireless keyboard/mouse it wakes up again to tell me it's searching for the mouse.

in my experience, if i switch off my wireless keyboard first, then make my mini go to sleep, it will not wake during the night.

The flashlight in my iphone 4s keeps lighting even when it is switched off. I went through many articles and in those was mentioned presence of humidity could be one reason, but my phone was not prone to such conditions & it is the condition when i took it from its pouch. Kindly help

If the phone is offline there is no way to track it or send a message to it.  You can place it in lost mode to lock it and send it a message (see http://help.apple.com/icloud/#/mmfc0f0165), but this will not take place until the phone goes back online, if it ever does.  If it does, you will get an email informing you.

  • Firewire drives won't spin down when I put iMac to sleep

I have three external hard drives connected to my iMac in a FW800 daisy chain. It used to be, when I put my iMac to sleep, all three of the external drives would spin down and go quiet. I replaced the drive in the middle of the chain with a new one (both LaCie), and now none of the three external drives spin down when my I sleep my iMac.
Does anyone know how to get them to spin down?

It's a known issue for many many brands of FW800 drives.  I've been reporting this to apple for a while.  With 10.9.2, my particular drives will spin down if they are mounted and unmounted but if my system wakes from sleep which will spin up all drives, they stay that way until I mount and unmount again.  So....10.9.2 is a little better but FW is still borked.
This is the primary reason my Mac Pro is still on Mountain LIon.  My MBA is on mavericks.  A note of caution...Mavericks writes to the NVRAM, sometimes when dual booting it is good to clear that memory.

  • My iMac doesn't wake up when I hit the wireless keyboard

I leave my imac on all the time, I have a wireless bluetooth keyboard and sometimes when I hit the keyboard my imac doesn't wake up. Is this an issue that anyone else has delt with? Is it a keyboard issue or a computer issue?

    Weak battery?
Apple keyboard or third party? All firmware up to date?

  • When I put iMac to sleep it disconnects with Airport Express

I have an Apple Imac 2.1 and a G4 laptop, and have no problems with either of them connecting to the internet, but my 2.93 Intel Core 2 Duo IMac is another story.
Whenever I put it to sleep I have to go through the full deal to reconnect it to the internet, so as, what is your password, which network would you like to connect to, etc.
How do I stop it doing this and behave like the other two, cause it's behavior is really pxxxxng me off. Could someone out there please help me to stop it doing this. thanking you

The AirPort Express does not "sleep", it's always "on"...so you have an iMac issue...not an AirPort Express issue. You may be better served by posting in the iMac Forum.
If you have not already done so, open System Preferences (gear icon on the dock) and open Network. Click on AirPort on the left and then click Advanced at the lower right. Make sure that your network name is at the top of the connection list so that your iMac will connect to that network first. Drag it to the top if needed.
Delete any old networks displayed that you no longer need by clicking them to highlight them and then clicking the - (minus) button at the bottom of the connection list.
Make sure that there is a check mark next to "Remember networks this computer has joined". No other boxes should be checked.
    Click OK, then click Apply
Restart your iMac and see if that helps. If no luck, you should post in the iMac Forum for further help.

  • Put iMac to Sleep, Warm in the AM

Before I go to bed each night, I manually put my iMac to Sleep from the Apple menu. Within a few seconds it shuts down and makes no noise (no fans).
Most mornings however, when I awake, I can hear the fans spinning (primarily the hard disk fan using Activity Monitor), and the top of the computer is warm. When these fans come on I cannot tell, but I'm pretty sure the computer doesn't light/wake up, show the desktop on both monitors, and then go back to screen saving mode and then eventually the screens go dark but the fans still run and the computer stays warm (e.g. not sleeping, just the displays are black).
How do I put the computer to sleep at night, so NOTHING runs (no fans) and the computer is cold in the morning?
    Thanks.

Nothings happening, tried the mouse, tried the keyboard, nothing. I followed the instructions for resetting the SMC and the only thing I get is the light sound I describbed in my earlier message. The more i listen I don't think it's the cd drive, I feel like that would be a little louder than the sound I hear. What I'm hearing sounds like a light spinning sound almost like the hard drive when yo click the keyboard to wake it up, except it keeps doing it over and over again until I unplug the mac. When I plug it back in, it will not make the sound until I press the power button on the back.

  • Put imac to Sleep or Shut Down

    What's up guys
I'm just wondering, I use Logic pro
a lot and I would like have quick
access when I have a creative urge.
How often should I shut down my imac
as apposed to putting it to sleep?

    Several schools of thought:
    1) never shut it off (but it's OK to let the display sleep, i.e., go to screen saver, but never let the computer or the hard drives go to sleep)
    2) turn it on and off as needed
    3) put the computer to sleep (including display and hard drives) when not being used
    Considerations:
    1) "always on" --- if having immediate access to your computer to get down creative ideas ASAP is important then there should be no other factors to consider.
    2) "on/off as needed" -- the exact opposite of #1
    3) "sleep" -- a happy medium? It depends... Waking a computer from sleep still means that you have to wait a while before you can start to record. You should experiment with your system to see how successfully it wakes up after being put to sleep before committing to this practice. Sometimes a system won't wake up from sleep and you'll have to re-boot anyway.

  • My iMac won't wake up when it's been asleep for awhile

Each morning now, (since the last update of ML) my iMac won't wake up from sleep when I try from either
my bluetooth keyboard or mouse. Seems like it would be a bluetooth connection issue but how do
I make sure it will not interfer with waking up my computer.
I tried pushing the on/off button briefly to get it to wake up but no luck there. I always have to restart
    it.

This sounds like the intermitent problem that has been around for a few users since some point during 10.6 Snow Leopard. I had the problem off and on and found the only 'fix' that worked 100% was to set: System Preferences>Energy Saver and set 'computer sleep' to 'never'.

  • Power off after putting iMac to Sleep

    Have you ever experienced this?
Put you iMac to Sleep and it powers down - not a shut down, but the power goes off - no blinking light, no whirring of the hard drive, no sign of life!
I have read and performed many of the tips regarding NVRAM, SMU, PMU, etc. resets. None have worked.
    Situation 1-
Use the 'sleep' command - moments after the machine powers off.
    Situation 2 -
iMac screen saver will run for a short time, then screen goes blank, the power light illuminates, the fan spins full speed, and the machine is totally unresponsive to mice clicks or movements, or keyboard entries.
    Situation 3 -
Sometimes upon power up, the iMac doesn't start, but you can hear a faint buzz sound from the back of the machine. Similar to audio hum.
These problems occur whether or not other devices are connected to the iMac.
    Connections-
Standard USB devices - mice, card reader,
    Bluetooth keyboard
    Ehternet
    Power Settings-
    Screen saver 5 minutes
Energy Saver - to sleep when inactive - 15 minutes, display to sleep - 15 minutes.
Various other settings tried with no change in problem.
I suspect the power supply. What's your opinion?

I began experiencing the same thing this week (two days ago). I also tried repairing permissions, resetting SMU, and removing the iTunes receipts (Library/Receipts) since this is what caused an earlier failure to sleep. The difference is then the computer would not sleep, now it shuts off instead of sleeping.

  • 2007 Intel iMac with sleep/wake issues

    Subject: 2007 Intel iMac, 2GHz, 4GB RAM, 10.5.6
I'm having difficulty troubleshooting this one and would greatly appreciate any advice/help. Basically this iMac will develop all kinds of problems over night. It will be put to sleep in the evening and in the morning it will be off or it won't wake from sleep. I don't think it's a power issue, as other computers aren't affected.
If you manually turn it off and then on again, it won't recognize the startup volume. Usually at this point nothing will work except Diskwarrior will find and repair some errors and it will work again for the rest of the day, but come morning, the problems return.
I've replaced the memory, changed all peripherals, completely rebuilt the OS (clean install), even replaced the battery backup unit. I've reset the PRAM and the SMC, ran surface scans on the hard drive, as well as all available tests in Tech Tool and Rember. Nothing found. SMART status is clear.
It seems to only happen over night. If I put it to sleep mid-day, it'll wake just fine, although perhaps there's a difference between that short sleep and its nightly slumber which is the key??
I don't think there's a software issue because the person who uses it basically only uses Mail, Safari, Firefox, and occasionally iWork apps. I'll put the latest crash report in a follow-up post, but I don't quite understand its contents and I'm hoping it will provide a clue which someone can help me with.
Thanks for reading this far - I look forward to any responses!

Here's the latest crash report. It seems to have originated after sunday night's crash, which is why it shows 10.5.4, which was installed by combo update yesterday. Last night's crash doesn't seem to have a report...

  • Having problems putting iMac to sleep?

I've noticed lately that I have to click SLEEP two or three time to put my iMac into sleep mode.  Is this the start of a bigger problem and what do I have to do to fix the problem.  Any assistance will be appreciated.

See if something here helps http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1776?viewlocale=en_US
I'd also try resetting the SMC http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964

What command or key combo are you using to put it to sleep?
Option-Command-Eject works for me. You have to hold the combo for about 1/2 second or more since the delay was put into the Eject key some time ago.

  • HT5549 trouble putting iMac to sleep after installing this update?

I can't put my imac to sleep anymore after installing the security update for Java. Is anyone else having this problem?

I had the download file open all the time and closing that has solved (looks like) the problem.  However, this was not an issue while I use the regular mouse.

  • Why does my iMac screen continually wake up when streaming movies?

Whenever I stream a movie from my iMac to Apple TV, my iMac attempts to wake up every few minutes.  It is in the same room as my tv, so it is distracting especially at night when the login box constantly pops up.  Until a few months back I never had this issue.

The computer needs to wakeup in order to play the movie and interact witht the files in your iTunes library.. it's either this or the appleTV will get an error.. and you'd need to walk over to the computer and wake it up manually.. i have a mac mini and i just turn my screen off.. not sure if there is a way to just disable the screen itself on a iMac but that is what you want to do.. but the iMac really does need to wake up to interact with the appleTV.. as i said.. you can have this happen automactically or the other option is to manually walk over the the computer and wake it up everytime you appleTV gets an error because you computer is asleep..

  • What do I do when my MacBook Air (refirbished) sometimes turns on and sometimes does not when it is in sleep mode and when I turn it off?

I got this refirbished MacBook Air sometime in the last week or two. Now lately, when I turn it off or put it in sleep mode, then try to turn it on; it will take a long while to turn on or it will turn on normally. Can anyone help me?

    Try a SMC reset.
